As part of his ambition to make <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> a green economy, Union minister <keyword id="19897455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nitin-gadkari" source="keywords">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> wants to slash GST on hybrid vehicles and has vowed to rid the country entirely of the over 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. "One hundred per cent," <keyword id="19934966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gadkari" source="keywords">Gadkari</keyword>, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said when asked whether it is possible for India to get rid of petrol and diesel cars altogether. "It is difficult but not impossible. This is my vision," Gadkari said in an interview to PTI. He said India spends Rs 16 lakh crore on fuel imports. This money will be used for improving the life of farmers, villages will be prosperous and the youth will get employment, the minister said. Gadkari did not give any timeline to meet this ambitious target which even proponents of green energy believe is mind bogglingly difficult. The proposal to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles to five per cent and to 12 per cent for flex engines has been sent to the Finance ministry which is considering the requisition, Gadkari said. The minister said he firmly believes the country can end fuel import by promoting the use of biofuels. Environmental activists welcomed Gadkari's vision for increasing green mobility, but also struck a word of caution by flagging the use of fossil fuels in the production of electricity. "In India, we are still heavily dependent on a fossil fuel-based energy system to power electric cars, and this needs to be changed. There is urgent need to ensure 100 per cent renewable energy alongside electric vehicles to tackle the climate crisis," <keyword id="21152150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="avinash-chanchal" source="keywords">Avinash Chanchal</keyword>, a campaigner for Greenpeace India, told PTI. Gadkari said he has been pitching for alternative fuels since 2004 and is confident things will change in the coming five to seven years. "I cannot give you a date and year for this transformation to take place as it is very difficult. This is difficult but not impossible," Gadkari asserted. He said he firmly believes that given the speed with which electric vehicles are being introduced, the coming era will be of alternative and biofuels and this dream will come true. Gadkari said auto companies such as Bajaj, TVS and Hero are also planning to manufacture motorcycles using flex engines and auto rickshaws using similar technology too were on the way. "I roam around in a car that runs on hydrogen. You can see electric cars in every other household. People who used to say this was impossible, have changed their views now and started believing in what I have been saying for the last 20 years," the minister said. "Tatas and <keyword id="19906966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ashok-leyland" source="keywords">Ashok Leyland</keyword> have introduced trucks that run on hydrogen. There are trucks that run on LNG/CNG. There are 350 factories across the country of bio-CNG," he said. "Definitely, a revolution is taking place. Not more than 50% of the net offer shall be available for allocation on a proportionate basis to qualified institutional buyers. Also, not less than 15% of the net offer shall be available for allocation to non-institutional bidders, and not less than 35% of the net offer shall be available for retailers. Last year, JSW Infrastructure raised as much as ₹2,800 crore via an IPO. Six-decade-old EPC company Afcons Infrastructure is a sixty-year-old engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company. The company has a track record of delivering a wide range of EPC projects both domestically and internationally. It operates across five major verticals with projects across ports, highways, and urban infrastructure like metro works, bridges, flyovers etc. It also does EPC work on dams, tunnels, offshore and onshore projects. Real estate developers heading to Panipat, Ludhiana, Nagpur & more

The first of the <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> aircraft with GE engines are expected to be service ready in 2023 itself, Vikram <keyword id="142" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rai" source="Orion">Rai</keyword> - Country Head, South Asia and Indonesia of GE Aerospace said on Thursday. Air <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, part of Tata group, had signed an order for 40 GE engines, plus a multi-year engine services agreement. "The first of the new aircraft will enter service in late-2023, with the bulk to arrive beginning mid-2025," Rai said in an exclusive interview with ANI. "Air India already has started taking delivery of 36 leased B777 and A320 aircraft to accelerate its fleet and network expansion." Terming Air India's engine order as a "big opportunity" for the jet engines and systems suppliers company, he said it reflects continued confidence in GE Aerospace technology --which has been powering Air India's carriers for more than 40 years. Earlier this month, Air India, in a historic deal, announced it will buy 250 aircraft from Airbus and has also selected Boeing for the purchase of up to 290 planes as part of its growth strategy. Air India was looking for a mix of aircraft to boost their domestic and international network through recent orders. Soon after the divestment of the airline, the airline indicated it was going for a historic order. "This order further deepens that relationship," Rai added. When asked how GE sees Indian aviation space becoming a key player in the coming years with multiple stakeholders or companies looking to expand its base, he said the majority of the aircraft that domestic carriers have on order right now is expected to be powered by engines from GE Aerospace and CFM (a joint venture between GE Aviation and Safran Aircraft Engines). "Approximately 1,100 of the 1,200 aircraft that are currently on order will be powered by GE or CFM." India is the third-largest civil aviation market and it has the potential to expand exponentially with an increasing number of flyers and the country's economic growth story. "There are currently more people in the middle class--around 440 million--than the entire population of the US. But India has only 700 commercial aircraft, compared to the US's over 5000 aircraft. The potential to grow the commercial aviation market is huge. We are happy to help local airlines and also partner with airframers to bring the best of our technology to this market," he said. In the same breath, he said India is not just a market for GE Aerospace as it is also where it innovates on aerospace technology at its engineering centre in Bengaluru, in partnership with industry and academia. "We also source engine parts from 13 Indian manufacturers and from our own factory in Pune for our global supply chain," Rai added. India aims to develop itself as a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub for defence equipment and systems. "GE helped set up Air India's MRO facility that includes GE90 testing capabilities in <keyword id="4072" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nagpur" source="Orion">Nagpur</keyword> in 2018-19. We are keen to help our partners set up service and maintenance capabilities locally," he told ANI. On a question posed what is GE's medium and long-term plan for Indian aviation space and also has been in touch with any other Indian carriers for similar deals, he, without getting into specifics, said, GE engages with various Indian carriers from time to time. First GE-made Air India aircraft to be service ready in 2023 itself

Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> on Wednesday announced that it has crossed the one million unique 5G user mark on its network, as the telecom operator rolls out 5G services in a phased manner. The company said it achieved this milestone in less than 30 days of its commercial launch even as the network is being built. "Our network is being built every day even as all 5G devices are now capable of working on the Airtel 5G Plus network barring a few exceptions which should also be done in the coming weeks. We will continue to advance our network with a vision to connect the entire country," said Randeep <keyword id="266533" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sekhon" source="Orion">Sekhon</keyword>, CTO of Bharti Airtel. Earlier this month, Airtel kicked off 5G services in Delhi, Mumbai, <keyword id="12864" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="chennai" source="Orion">Chennai</keyword>, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, <keyword id="4072" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nagpur" source="Orion">Nagpur</keyword> and Varanasi. Customers who have 5G smartphones will enjoy the high-speed Airtel 5G Plus on their existing data plans until the roll-out is more widespread. Airtel surpasses 1 mn customers on it 5G network in less than 30 days

Mumbai, Dec 28 (PTI) The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was prorogued on Tuesday at the end of the five-day winter session of the state legislature here. The Budget session will be held in Nagpur, the second capital of the state, from February 28, Deputy speaker Narhari Zirwal announced. He read out the prorogation order of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Traditionally, the winter session is held in Nagpur, but it was held in Mumbai in 2020 and again this year citing the COVID-19 pandemic. PTI MR KRK KRK

Nagpur, May 18 () COVID-19 cases in Nagpur in Maharashtra touched 373 on Monday, and one person died of the infection, a health official said. The death toll from the infection in the district is now seven, he added. "The number of active cases is 141 as 225 people have been discharged so far and seven have died," the official said. As per state Maharashtra recorded 2,033 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 35,058 on Monday, while 51 more patients died - 23 of them in Mumbai - raising the toll to 1,249, said the health department. This was the second consecutive day when the state has reported more than 2,000 COVID-19 cases, said a health department official. The tally of 2,033 new COVID-19 cases is the second highest single-day count after 2,347 infections recorded on May 17.

The death toll stands at 21 while the number of recovered patients has reached 964, he said. Nagpur, Jun 2 () A 30-year-old man was killed in Kanhan area here in Maharashtra by a gang for intervening in a dispute involving his co-workers, police said on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Raju alias Shivshankar Shitalprasad Kashyap. The incident occurred on Monday night when Kashyap and his friend were going on a motorcycle after completing their shift, an official said, adding that the accused were angry that Kashyap had intervened during a fight between them and his co-workers last week. In another incident, also on Monday night, an argument over distribution of food led to killing of a 36-year-old truck driver by a 20-year-old cleaner in Saoner taluka, the official said. Nagpur, May 8 () The end does not necessarilyjustify the means, the Bombay High Court said on Friday whiledirecting the city police chief to ensure no person is made toface any unusual or humiliating punishment by his force forviolating norms related to the coronavirus-enforced lockdown.Justice R B Deo, of the Nagpur bench of the HC, madethe observation while hearing a petition filed city residentSandip Nair, raising concerns over the manner in which thelocal police force had been implementing the lockdown.The petition contended that while the police force is,by and large, discharging its duties in an exemplary manner,there are several instances which would be a "blot" on thepolice machinery.The petitioner pointed out instances where lockdownviolators, including senior citizens and women, have been madeto hold placards with messages like "they are an enemy to thesociety and humanity".Photographs of the violators with such messages areclicked and made viral on social media. Such photos also maketheir way in newspapers and TV channels, the plea said.The petitioner argued that while the police wereentitled to take all possible measures within the four cornersof law to enforce the lockdown, making a humiliating spectacleof the violators is a serious infringement on their basichuman and fundamental rights.The court, after hearing brief arguments, noted thatthe petition brings to the fore an extremely disturbing anddistressing facet of the enforcement of the lockdowndirectives.I have come across several news reports highlightingthe unusual and humiliating punishments which are meted out bypolice personnel under the garb of enforcing the lockdowndirectives, Justice Deo said in the order.The court said though it does not have any reason tosuspect the intent of the police machinery, the end does notnecessarily justify the means.Justice Deo further noted that police personnel whohave indulged in blatant violation of human dignity areexpected to be aware of the fact that this is a civilisedsociety governed by the rule of law.While extraordinary situations may call forextraordinary measures, these must have the sanction of law.Human dignity and rights cannot be sacrificed at the alter ofextraordinary situations nor can the constitutional right to adignified life be hostage to supposed intentions, the courtnoted.The court directed the Nagpur police commissioner tosensitise the entire police force to ensure such sordidincidents do not recur.This court trusts that the top echelons of the policemachinery shall ensure that there shall be no furtherviolation of human rights while enforcing the lockdown."Should a single such incident is noticed, this courtexpects the police commissioner to hold the senior officerunder whose jurisdiction the incident has occurred,accountable, the court ordered.
