After the <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> <keyword id="6355392" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="High-Court">High Court</keyword>'s advice to impose lockdown or curfew in Gujarat for 3-4 days to curb the pandemic outbreak, the Gujarat <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> announced that night curfew will be clamped in twenty other <keyword id="480949" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="major-cities">major cities</keyword> from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Wednesday till April 30. Night curfew is already in place in four major cities of Gujarat. There has been a significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases, especially in financial capital of the state, Ahmedabad and the Diamond City Surat. Even as the Gujarat High Court made an observation and advised the government to impose a 3-4 day lockdown or curfew on weekends, Tuesday saw the highest spike of positive cases of 3,280, following which the government decided to impose a night time curfew in twenty major cities of Gujarat, apart from the four major cities Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot where night curfew is already effective from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The government has also banned political or social gatherings till April 30 and reduced the number of guests who can attend a marriage ceremony to hundred from two hundred. Other gatherings have also been limited to a maximum of fifty. Gujarat Chief Minister <keyword id="193875" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Rupani">Vijay Rupani</keyword> chaired a high powered core committee meeting late on Tuesday evening where the decision to impose night curfew was taken. "The High Court gave some suggestions and we have decided on it. Earlier we had imposed a curfew in four major cities of the state. Now we have decided to clamp night curfew in 20 other cities," <keyword id="3447820" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupani">Rupani</keyword> said. The CM also informed that the central government will send a team of medical experts to Gujarat which will help the state government devise a strategy to check the rise in the cases. Expressways In West & North-west India

Gandhinagar, June 8 (IANS) Gujarat on Monday witnessed heavy rain in most parts of the state, spelling respite from almost two months of sizzling summer, and more rain is likely in the next three-four days. Although, the monsoon's entry in Gujarat is expected after June 15, around 15 days after it arrives in Kerala, torrential downpour brought the high summer temperatures down in most parts of the state with 54 blocks (tehsils) receiving more than 2 mm rain. Bhavnagar received the maximum rain (83 mm) in eight hours till 2 p.m. Vallabhipur, another tehsil in Bhavnagar, received 63 mm, Umrala and Amreli district's Savarkundla 48 mm each, Ghogha tehsil in Bhavnagar 36 mm and Manavadar tehsil in Junagarh 33 mm of rain. Ahmedabad was almost brought to standstill as many parts of the city witnessed water-logging. Also, even in the afternoon the visibility was reduced to almost nil. In many parts of Saurashtra, several trees were uprooted. Many check-dams were reported to be overflowing in many districts of Saurashtra, like Botad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Amreli. In 15 minutes, Nadiad city received 2 inches of rain. Rajkot city received around 3 mm rain. Although the pre-monsoon rain is believed to have caused some damage to the onion crop in Bhavnagar, majority of farmers in the state are happy and are expecting good rain this year. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more pre-monsoon rain accompanied by thunders, lightning and windy weather in the next three-four days. --IANS amc/pcj
