Spread over a period of 10 days, from August 12 until August 21, <keyword id="3110275" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DineFest">DineFest</keyword>, a bi-annual culinary discovery event will allow diners to enjoy a three-course prix fixe meals at 12 of Delhi’s finest informal dining <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=restaurants&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">restaurants,</a> at just a fraction of the a la carte rates. 
 Drawing inspiration from Restaurant Week-India’s largest fine dining event, DineFest will run simultaneously in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumba with a total of 42 <keyword id="34615" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="restaurants">restaurants</keyword> participating in this edition. 
 
The three-course fixed menu that boasts of ample vegetarian and non-vegetarian options can be availed at three time slots (1 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm), for both lunch and dinner at any of the 15 participating restaurants. 
 
In Delhi, the set menu is offered at a price of Rs 600 per individual, which is exclusive of applicable taxes, service charges as well as beverages or dishes ordered outside of the special DineFest menu.

As a result, diners also have an additional option to order their preferred three-course meal online and thus experience curated menus at a fraction of the a la carte rates from the comfort of their homes. 
 The DineFest Collection on <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> will feature all participating restaurants in each city, enabling diners to browse and discover great dining options. The Online Ordering option facilitated through Zomato will mark the first time that a Cellar Door experience will be available for home delivery. 
 
To make a reservation, head over to the DineFest website and choose the restaurant you visit to visit along with your preferred time slot. A booking fee of Rs 50 will be charged per reservation.

From Restaurant Week and Chef’s Table Week to <keyword id="3110275" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DineFest">DineFest</keyword> and <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food">Food</keyword> with Benefits, Nachiket Shetye (34) and Mangal Dalal (31), the chef-restaurateur-entrepreneur duo behind <keyword id="3110277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cellar-Door-Hospitality">Cellar Door Hospitality</keyword> have singlehandedly managed to not only introduce <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=mumbai&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mumbai</a> to a host of unique culinary concepts but have also ensured to innovate with every single event, time and again. 
 And, now they are back to introduce <keyword id="6358070" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> to yet another culinary concept – the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/SmallPlatesWeek/?fref=ts">Small Plates Week</a>. 
 The inaugural edition of <keyword id="3422102" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Small-Plates-Week">Small Plates Week</keyword> will run for 10 days, from June 17 to June 26 comprising 15 participating restaurants and will let diners sample a variety of dishes at a fraction of cost. 
 
For Rs 1,000 (exclusive of taxes and service charge) per person, diners can choose from a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=set+menu&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">set menu</a> of at least six <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=small+plates&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">small plates</a>, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian and follow it up with four desserts, and the good news is that they are free to reorder servings of any small plate they want to. 
 
There’s more. Some of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=restaurants&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">restaurants</a> also have items on the event menu that are otherwise not available in their menu. For instance, The Fatty Bao’s menu will include a selection of new dishes such as The Fatty and Egg Dessert and The Slow Cooked Apple and Filo Pastry Slice. 
 
 
 When asked about the inspiration behind introducing <keyword id="3422103" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Small-Plates">Small Plates</keyword> Week, Shetye tells us that it is in essence the reflection of the current scenario; wherein India, and to be specific, Mumbai is witnessing an influx of cafes and bars. 
 
“At a time like this, how does one decide which restaurant is worth checking out and, more importantly how do they know which dishes they should order? This is where we come in. With this event, we aim to help people discover new restaurants in the city,” he adds. 
 There’s also the fact that people nowadays are eating out in larger groups with their friends or families and as Indians, we love sharing our food. This says Shetye makes the concept of ‘Small Plates’ as a theme for a <keyword id="3422105" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="culinary-event">culinary event</keyword> a perfect fit. 
 
“The advantage of small plates is that you’re not limited to just two-three dishes and instead can sample a variety of dishes, in the process discovering dishes you might not have ordered otherwise,” he explains. 
 
 
 
Shetye also believes that one of the reasons the trend of small plates has caught up this quickly is because as Indians, we are already familiar with the concept. “Our Indian thalis itself consist of small servings of sabzi, farsan, dal, sweet etc, so it’s not like trend is alien to us. We’ve been eating like this for a long way.” 
 
Echoing his thoughts, Ashish Sajnani, Owner, Eat Thai, one of the participating restaurant says, “Though Indians are now experimenting with their food choices, they still remain price conscious. And, this is one of the reasons teh concept of small plates has clicked because it gives the customer the leeway to variety while still being inexpensive.” 
 
To decide on the list of participating restaurants, the team looked extensively at food reviews, talked to food bloggers and restaurants, conducted surveys and also ensured they approach establishments which actually do small plates, Shetye tells us. 
 
To his surprise, all the restaurants they approached in the process of finalising the 15 restaurants for Small Plates Week responded very encouragingly and were of the opinion that it would not only aid in their discovery but would also let them showcase the dishes they do well. 
 
 
 
For Chef Prashant of Fatty Bao, the aim of associating with events like Small Plates Week is to offer the joy and experience of a small plate meal to customers and thereby popularize the concept further. “Additionally, this will also help us draw in a new and relevant set of customers as well as showcase the philosophy behind the trendy Asian cuisine available at our restaurant.” 
 
All in all, Shetye hopes that Small Plates Week allows customers to have a good time, discover newer restaurants, try cuisines that are out of their comfort zones and aids in the concept catching on. 
 
Small Plates Week, which took the team almost six months to plan will also spread its wings to Delhi later this year.

new culinary event in Mumbai promises small servings but big flavours

It is a celebration of the culinary landscape in Indian metros. The ongoing Ola <keyword id="1326872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="restaurant-week-india">Restaurant Week India</keyword> that ends on 25th of this month features around 100+ restaurants handpicked across Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword>, Mumbai and Pune. Diners in Mumbai are being offered a three-course price fixed menu at Rs 1,100 for lunch and Rs 1,300 for dinner; in Bangalore at Rs 900 for lunch and Rs 1,100 for dinner; in Chennai at Rs 750 for lunch and Rs 900 for dinner; in Kolkata at Rs 900 for lunch or dinner and in Pune at Rs 750 for lunch or dinner. 
 
Quite renowned among the foodies’ circuit in the metros, the current edition of the Restaurant Week also features some new participants that include gluten free, vegan, low carb and low sugar options. While dining out, go healthy and at fraction of the ala carte menu price of the posh fine dining restaurants, each event has generated an average of over Rs 1.2 crore. Mind you, this amount is only from the food sold as there is no alcohol option included in the fixed price. 
 When the Restaurant Week was launched some 6 years ago, it was aimed at helping diners discover interesting gourmet restaurants that offer a great dining experience. Not only for the diners, for the restaurants as well. Hidden gems like Indian <keyword id="98838" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Accent">Accent</keyword> restaurant, The Manor and Tapas at the <keyword id="322803" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aman-Lodhi">Aman Lodhi</keyword> were showcased and a loyal fan base of each place was thus created. 
 
While the plan was to go once a year with 7 iconic restaurants of the town, the Restaurant Week has evolved as a twice-a-year phenomenon. Held in March and September every year, the event covers 10 days with over 100+ participating restaurants. Over the last 4 rounds, each Restaurant Week had an average of 3,374 tables and 9,593 diners per round. 
 
Nachiket Shetye, co-founder Cellar Door Hospitality, the organizer of the event says it’s completely because of the response the event received in the first round that it had to be expanded. “As the event has grown we have paid emphasis on the menu, menu choices and introduction of signature options at a nominal price.” 
 So how difficult was it to influence the fine dining category and make them participate at such a nominal price point? “This is a very small industry and business is done on the basis of relationships. We ensure that before each round we visit the city and meet all our participating restaurants, inform them about the new features and feedback from the last round. In the first edition AD Singh from the <keyword id="227620" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Olive-Group">Olive Group</keyword> was our mentor and helped us out a lot,” said Shetye. 
 
“But for the first round we did a recce trip ate at a ridiculous number of restaurants, made cold calls and had F&amp;B Manager introduce us to fellow managers at other restaurants. Those were the wonder years.” 
 
And with new restaurants participating in every season of restaurant week, the research is done purely on the word-of-mouth basis. “We track all new restaurant openings and take feedback from friends about their favourite fine dining spots so that we can constantly rotate our list and provide new and better options,” said Shetye. 
 
It is also ensured that the restaurants chosen are speciality ones so the foodies get a lot of variety to choose from.
