Student organisations of INDIA bloc parties, including <keyword id="21322962" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSUI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NSUI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="NSUI">NSUI</keyword>, AISF, and AISA, will hold <keyword id="20024974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="demonstrations" source="keywords">demonstrations</keyword> across the country on July 3 against the alleged "<keyword id="20039944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="scam" source="keywords">scam</keyword> and <keyword id="20500825" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="corrupt-practices" source="keywords">corrupt practices</keyword>" of the National Testing Agency (<keyword id="19985628" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nta" source="keywords">NTA</keyword>), announced NSUI President Varun Chaudhary on Tuesday. The student organisations of INDIA alliance partners held a joint press conference demanding a "ban of NTA," the resignation of Union Education Minister <keyword id="19897147" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan" source="keywords">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> and holding the NEET exam again. The press conference was attended by representatives of AISF, AISA, NSUI, Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, SFI and CRJD. 'We are United here to address the issue of scams and corrupt practices carried out by NTA and the issue of NEET students," said NSUI president Varum Chaudhary. Putting forth their three demands, Chaudhary said, " We want the government to disband the NTA. We want Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take responsibility and step down. The third thing we want is that NEET to be held again." NTA is grappling with controversy over alleged irregularities in the entrance exams, including the NEET and UGC NET. After irregularities resurfaced in the NEET and UGC NET exams, the central government postponed several exams, including the NEET PG. The opposition parties and several student organisations have been holding protests regularly, demanding action. Addressing the joint press conference, the national president of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, Imran Idris, demanded that government be held accountable. " Government should answer. Union Minister Dharmerndra Pradhan should answer. We want NTA be banned and Pradhan should resign." Viraaj Devang. The General Secretary of AISF reiterated the three demands and targeted the government for creating the education system. "NEET-like entrance exam should be removed.NTA scams and problems should not be seen in isolation. And the agenda is to how to throw backward people out of education system," Devang said "I urge the government to not play with the future of students of the country," he added.

The students belonging to different outfits under the banner "India against <keyword id="19985628" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTA" source="keywords">NTA</keyword>" gathered at the Patel Chowk metro station here and started raising "anti-NTA" slogans. Carrying posters and banners with slogans like "sack Union Education Minister" and "NTA must go" written over them, the students staged demonstration against the reported incidents of <keyword id="20116086" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paper-leak" source="keywords">paper leak</keyword> and <keyword id="19895687" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="corruption" source="keywords">corruption</keyword> in the <keyword id="21032036" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="medical-entrance-exam" source="keywords">medical entrance exam</keyword>, besides others. The Delhi Police detained the protesting students while they tried to march towards the Parliament to press their demands. "After holding a presser at the Press Club, the students gathered at the Patel Chowk metro station from where they started marching towards the Parliament. Over a dozen students were detained while attempting to do so," said a police officer. Various students outfits under the banner "India against NTA" have been staging an indefinite sit-in at the Jantar Mantar here against alleged rigging in the NTA held examinations -- NEET UG, PG and UGC NET. Their protest entered its seventh day on Tuesday with a call to take out a march to the Parliament to forward the agitation. The members of Left backed All India Students Association (AISA) and Delhi University's Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) are among those sitting on the protest. The students have called for another march for "Sansad Gherao" on Wednesday along with the student outfits of INDIA block parties on the last day of 18th Lok Sabha. Their demands include scrapping of NTA, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation and decentralisation of entrance examinations.

The National Testing Agency (<keyword id="19985628" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTA" source="keywords">NTA</keyword>) on Monday announced the results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) retest held on June 23, for 1563 candidates. The NTA in a public notice June 30 also declared the revision of the rank of all candidates who appeared in the exam. The retest was held on June 23 after a controversy erupted regarding the awarding of grace marks to certain students. The notice further stated that the revised scorecards of all the candidates of the NEET UG 2024 exam, including the 1563 candidates who appeared for the retest on June 23 would be hosted on the website. Earlier, amid the ongoing row over the NEET-UG exam, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shazia Ilmi on June 30 said that the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has taken moral responsibility for the issue and that an investigation is being carried out. "Investigation is being carried out in this matter and we need to hold serious deliberations instead of political stunts or playing a blame game. This is a serious issue and we see that the student community and their parents are affected because of this," she said. The NEET UG examination was conducted by the National Testing Agency on May 5, 2024 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities in the country, 14 cities abroad and with 23 lakh candidates appearing for the examination. The results was declared on June 4, which immediately caused a hue and cry with aspirants raising multiple issues. An unprecedented 67 candidates had achieved a perfect score of 720 marks out of 720 led to widespread protests in the country. The Supreme Court ruled that the "grace marks" awarded to some students should be scrapped and provided the affected candidates with the option to either take a re-test or retain their original scores, excluding the grace marks. The Central Government announced a high-level committee, headed by former ISRO chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan, to look into the functioning and fair conduct of examinations by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The seven-member committee will submit its report in two months. The CBI took over the investigation of NEET-UG following the discovery of evidence of a paper leak by investigators in Bihar and on June 23 registered a criminal case on the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the exam. the probe agency has formed special teams to look into the matter. As per the agency's FIR, certain "isolated incidents" occurred in a few states during the conduct of the NEET (UG) 2024 examination, which was held on May 5. NTA announces re-test results, revised rank list of 1563 candidates of NEET exam

The Centre on Thursday told the <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Supreme Court" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Supreme Court">Supreme Court</keyword> that the decision to give <keyword id="21375140" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="grace-marks" source="keywords">grace marks</keyword> to 1,563 <keyword id="20055256" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NEET-UG" source="keywords">NEET-UG</keyword>, 2024 candidates for admission to <keyword id="19968296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MBBS" source="keywords">MBBS</keyword>, <keyword id="20007002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BDS" source="keywords">BDS</keyword> and others courses has been cancelled and they will be given an option to take a re-test on June 23. A vacation bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta was told by the counsel for the Centre and the <keyword id="19904021" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="National Testing Agency" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="National Testing Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword> (NTA) that the students, who were given grace marks, will be given an option to take the re-test. The court said it will not stay the counselling process for admissions. If the candidates, out of the 1,563, do not wish to take up the retest then their earlier marks, sans the grace marks, will be given for the purposes of the results. The results of the re-test will be declared on June 30 and the counselling for admission in the MBBS, BDS, other courses will start on July 6, the Centre said. Taking note of the submissions, the bench said all the pleas, including the one filed by Alakh Pandey, the chief executive of EdTech firm Physics Wallah over the issue of award of grace marks, will be taken up for hearing on July 8. They also include the petitions seeking cancellation of NEET-UG, 2024 on account of allegation of question paper leaks and other malpractices. The examination was held by the NTA on May 5 across 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates took it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14 but were announced on June 4, apparently because the evaluation of the answer sheets got completed earlier. The allegations such as question paper leak and the grant of grace marks to over 1,500 medical aspirants have led to protests and filing of cases in seven high courts as also the Supreme Court. As many as 67 students scored a perfect 720, unprecedented in the NTA's history, with six from a centre in Haryana's Faridabad figuring in the list, raising suspicions about irregularities. Scores of students protested in Delhi on June 10 seeking a probe into alleged irregularities. It has been alleged that grace marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank. The NEET-UG examination is conducted by the NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
