The <keyword id="19949639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rupee" source="keywords">rupee</keyword> opened on a flat note against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> in early trade on Tuesday, weighed down by a muted trend in domestic equities and the strength of the <keyword id="20563045" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="American-currency" source="keywords">American currency</keyword> in overseas markets. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said the US dollar strengthened due to increased demand from oil importers and stronger-than-expected economic data from the US. Moreover, rising crude oil prices also weighed on the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit moved in a narrow range. It opened at 83.49 against the American currency and touched 83.50 in initial trade. On Monday, the rupee settled for the day lower by 10 paise at 83.50 against the US dollar. The <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reserve-Bank-of-India" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword>'s positive economic outlook, with solid growth and unchanged inflation projections, suggests that there is less room for any early cuts amid prospects of rising inflation. This is likely to benefit the rupee from a favourable interest rate differential, said CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari. Further, Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) have resumed their buying. FIIs were net buyers in the capital markets on Monday, as they purchased shares worth Rs 2,572.38 crore, according to exchange data. Moreover, anticipated inflows such as Reliance Infrastructure raising USD 350 million, SpiceJet planning to raise USD 250 million, and Clix Capital aiming to raise USD 600 million are likely to benefit the rupee, Pabari said. Given these factors, the rupee is expected to swing within a range of 82.90 to 83.70, he added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was at 105.12, lower by 0.02 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.20 per cent to USD 81.47 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 155.45 points, or 0.20 per cent lower at 76,334.63 points. The broader NSE Nifty was down 33.25 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 23,225.95 points. Anand James, chief market strategist at Geojit Financial Services said “Expiry eve is a crucial day for expiry related trades as time decay sets in. As indices froze a little after 10 am, F&amp;O trades that reference such benchmark indices also slowed down. With hardly an hour's trade possible for such index-based traders the higher margins on F&amp;O positions may have been a double whammy.” The bourse said it depends on two telecom service providers for connectivity, and both failed simultaneously, resulting in the outage. NSE resumes trading after a brief halt, stock exchanges to remain open till 5 PM

It had opened at 49,763.94 and has touched an intra-day high of 50,817.10 and a low of 49,648.78 points. The Nifty50 on the <keyword id="53581" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword> was at 14,991.60, higher by 283.80 points or 1.93 per cent from its previous close. Sensex rallies over 1000 points after extended trading session

Mumbai, Mar 23 () Domestic stock trading on Monday resumed after a 45-minute halt, with equity benchmark Sensex plummeting further to 3,186 points and the broader Nifty sinking below 7,900 level. Stock exchanges paused trading for 45 minutes after Sensex plunged 10 per cent, hitting its lower circuit limit, within the first hour of opening of the session. As an automatic mechanism to curb freefall in the market, trading is halted in the market for 45 minutes when an exchange plunges 10 per cent before 1 pm. Continuing its downward spiral, domestic BSE Sensex was trading 3,185.84 points, down 10.65 per cent at 26,730.12. It hit an intra-day low of 26,645.83. Similarly, the NSE Nifty cracked 923.95 points, or 10.56 per cent, to 7,821.50 after resumption of trade. Mumbai, Mar 13 () Domestic stock trading on Friday resumed after a 45-minute halt, with equity benchmark Sensex plummeting further to 3,389 points and the broader Nifty sinking below 8,600 level. Stock exchanges paused trading for 45 minutes after both indices plunged over 10 per cent, hitting their lower circuit limits, within the first 15 minutes of opening of the session. Continuing its downward spiral, domestic BSE Sensex was trading 3,380.59 points, down 10.31 per cent at 29,397.55. It hit an intra-day low of 29,388.97, falling up to 3,389.17 points. Similarly, the NSE Nifty cracked 1,036.20 points, or 10.80 per cent, to 8,553.95 after resumption of trade. Tech Mahindra was the top loser on Sensex, cracking up to 15 per cent, followed by Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech, Kotak Bank and TCS. ANSANS

Trading resumes on stock exchanges; Sensex tanks over 3,300 pts

Mumbai, Jun 5 () Equity indices resumed their upward march on Friday as investors piled into banking and infrastructure stocks amid robust foreign fund inflows and a firm trend in global markets. Reversing the previous session's decline, the BSE Sensex zoomed 306.54 points or 0.90 per cent to end at a three-month high of 34,287.24. The broader NSE Nifty rose 113.05 points or 1.13 per cent to 10,142.15. State Bank of India (SBI) was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, surging 7.90 per cent, after the country's largest lender reported an over four-fold jump in standalone net profit for the March quarter at Rs 3,580.81 crore. Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, NTPC, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank also ended with gains of up to 6 per cent. On the other hand, TCS, HUL, Bajaj Auto and Infosys were among the laggards, skidding up to 2.19 per cent. Reliance Industries (RIL) succumbed to profit-booking, ending flat after touching its one-year high in intra-day trade. Continuing its deal-making streak, the company announced sale of 1.85 per cent stake in its digital unit Jio Platforms to Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor Mubadala for Rs 9,093.60 crore. During the week, Sensex surged 1,863.14 points or 5.74 per cent, while Nifty advanced 561.85 points or 5.86 per cent. According to traders, besides stock-specific action, persistent foreign fund inflows and positive cues from global markets led to bullish sentiment here. On a net basis, foreign portfolio investors bought equities worth Rs 2,905.04 crore on Thursday, provisional exchange data showed. "The current week has been a good one for the global markets as major frontline markets posted a strong rally," said Sanjeev Zarbade, VP PCG Research, Kotak Securities. The rally has been driven by positive sentiment generated from gradual lifting of lockdown across economies, despite weak economic readings and civil unrest in the US, he said. "Markets during the week surprised everyone by moving higher. The only justifiable reason to the current momentum is the liquidity. "The investable universe is gradually narrowing with shortage of top-graded stocks whereas the abundant monies available for purchasing them are increasing thus pushing frontline stocks higher which gets reflected in the Indices," said Jimeet Modi, Founder and CEO, SAMCO Securities &amp; StockNote. BSE metal, telecom, basic materials, industrials, bankex and power indices jumped up to 3.86 per cent, while IT and FMCG ended up to 0.75 per cent lower. Broader BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices outperformed the benchmarks, rallying up to 2.51 per cent. World equities extended their bull run as more stimulus from the ECB and reopening of countries fuelled economic recovery hopes. Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo ended with significant gains. Stock exchanges in Europe too opened up to 2 per cent higher. International oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 2.73 per cent to USD 41.08 per barrel. On the currency front, the rupee closed flat at 75.58 against the US dollar. Markets resume rally as bank stocks spurt; log weekly gains

Mumbai, May 7 () Equity indices ended lower after range-bound trade on Thursday as risk-off mood took hold amid a spike in coronavirus cases in the country. Strong selling in banking, financials and consumption stocks weighed on the benchmarks, despite positive global cues, traders said. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 242.37 points or 0.76 per cent to close at 31,443.38. The broader NSE Nifty slipped 71.85 points, or 0.78 per cent, to 9,199.05. ONGC was the top loser in the Sensex pack, slumping 4.54 per cent, followed by NTPC, Kotak Bank, Bharti Airtel, Titan and Bajaj Auto. Index heavyweights HDFC Bank and HDFC slipped up to 2.26 per cent, accounting for most of the benchmark's losses. Only five Sensex constituents finished in the green -- IndusInd Bank, M&amp;M, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and Tech Mahindra, spurting up to 6.58 per cent. "Markets traded dull and settled with a cut of over half a per cent amid mixed cues. In line with the benchmark, it was a muted session on the sectoral front too and the majority ended in the red. However, movement on the stock-specific kept the participants busy. "The recent surge in COVID-19 cases in India and the unending wait of the stimulus package has started taking a toll on the investors' sentiment. Besides, subdued earnings announcements are adding to the worries," said Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, Religare Broking Ltd. Meanwhile, GSK sold its 5.7 per cent stake in FMCG major HUL for around Rs 25,480 crore -- reportedly the largest secondary trade on Indian stock exchanges. Sectorally, BSE power, utilities, consumer durables, telecom, capital goods, FMCG and finance indices shed up to 2.47 per cent, while the energy index closed with gains. Broader BSE midcap and smallcap indices fell up to 0.53 per cent. World equities were buoyed by stronger-than-expected Chinese exports data, though the coronavirus pandemic and US-China tensions remained an overhang. Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul ended in the red, while Seoul closed with gains. Stock exchanges in Europe were trading higher in early deals. International oil benchmark Brent crude futures rallied 4.98 per cent to USD 31.20 per barrel. The forex market in India was shut on account of 'Buddha Purnima'. Similarly, the NSE Nifty rose 199.85 points, or 2.41 per cent, to 8,480.95. Tata Steel, HDFC, Axis Bank, M&amp;M, Reliance Industries, ONGC, ITC, HCL Tech and Titan rallied up to 3 per cent. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net sellers in the capital market, as they offloaded equity shares worth Rs 4,363.61 crore on Monday, according to provisional exchange data. According to traders, despite concerns over the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country and the economic fallout of the nationwide lockdown, investors are value-buying during each dip. On the global front, bourses in Shanghai were trading on a positive note after China's manufacturing sector steadily resumed production after the COVID-19 shutdown, with 98.6 per cent of the major industrial firms nationwide having restarted work. Stocks in <keyword id="24349" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hong-Kong">Hong Kong</keyword>, Tokyo and Seoul were also trading significantly higher.
