NIFTY 50: What it means and the companies covered under this index

New Delhi, Mar 16 () Troubled private lender Yes Bank will be dropped from benchmark index Nifty 50, banking index Nifty bank and other Nifty indices from March 19, NSE Indices said on Monday. Earlier, the changes were scheduled to happen on March 27, NSE Indices, a subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), said in a statement. However, in light of the recent developments relating to Yes Bank and its reconstruction scheme, NSE Indices' Index Maintenance Sub-Committee (IMSC) has decided to accelerate the removal of Yes Bank from Nifty 50 and Nifty Bank and also remove it from all Nifty equity indices from Thursday, March 19. Shree Cement will replace the private lender in Nifty 50 and in Nifty bank index, Bandhan Bank will find a place. The troubled lender will also be removed from Nifty 100 and Nifty 500. In Nifty 100, Adani Transmission will replace Yes Bank, while in Nifty 500, Sterling and Wilson Solar will be added. Earlier in February, NSE Indices had announced that on account of Yes Bank being excluded from Nifty 50 and Nifty 100, it was being included in Nifty Midcap 150, Nifty Midcap 50, Nifty Midcap 100, Nifty MidSmallcap 400 and Nifty Midcap Liquid 15 from March 27. In light of the decision to exclude Yes Bank from all our equity indices, the lender will not be included in these indices from March 27 and the replacements of Yes Bank in these indices will be announced in due course. On Saturday, the government had notified the Yes Bank Limited Reconstruction Scheme, 2020, a day after cabinet approval. Under the scheme, State Bank of India will invest for 49 per cent equity in Yes Bank and other investors are also being invited. There will be a three-year lock-in period for all the investors. However, the lock-in period for SBI would be only for the 26 per cent of the shareholding. The moratorium, which was placed by Reserve Bank of India on March 5, restricting withdrawal to Rs 50,000 per account, will also be lifted by 6 pm on Wednesday. SP ANSANS

Yes Bank to be excluded from Nifty 50, Nifty bank from Mar 19

New Delhi, Jul 2 () Vedanta Ltd will be dropped from NSE's benchmark index Nifty 50 and other indices from July 31 on account of the company's proposed voluntary delisting. In its place, HDFC Life Insurance Company will be included in the Nifty 50 index, NSE Indices, a subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) said in a statement. Apart from that, Vedanta will be excluded from Nifty 500, Nifty 200, Nifty 100 and Nifty LargeMidcap 250 indices. SBI Cards and Payment Services would replace Vedanta in these indices. In addition, Mishra Dhatu Nigam would replace Vedanta in the metal index. "The Index Maintenance Sub-Committee has decided to replace Vedanta Ltd. (VEDL) from various indices on account of proposed voluntary delisting. The changes shall become effective from July 31, 2020," NSE Indices said. New Delhi, Jul 3 () Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company on Friday gained 6 per cent after NSE said the company will be included in the Nifty 50 index. The stock jumped 6 per cent to Rs 581 on the NSE. On the BSE, it rose by 6 per cent to Rs 581. Vedanta will be dropped from NSE's benchmark index Nifty 50 and other indices from July 31 on account of the company's proposed voluntary delisting. In its place, HDFC Life Insurance Company will be included in the Nifty 50 index, NSE Indices, a subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) said in a statement on Thursday. The Nifty50 index took nearly 6 months to gain 1,000 points, which is growth of 6.7% from the 15,000 level. So far in 2021, the benchmark index is up by over 14%. The Nifty200 index has also been positive overall, with two out of every three stocks registering an increase today. In the index, 132 stocks registered an increase and 67 stocks declined. One stock remained unchanged. Overall, the Nifty200 index was up by 1.26%, with the total volume crossing 1.9 billion. Vodafone Idea, Punjab National Bank and BHEL were amongst the top 10 stocks by volume to end the day in red. New Delhi, Jul 3 () Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company gained 5 per cent at close of trade on Friday after NSE said the firm will be included in the Nifty 50 index. The stock jumped 5 per cent to close at Rs 575.75 on the NSE. During the day, it zoomed 7.60 per cent to Rs 589.60. On the BSE, it rose 4.42 per cent to settle at Rs 572.15. Vedanta will be dropped from NSE's benchmark index Nifty 50 and other indices from July 31 on account of the company's proposed voluntary delisting. New Delhi, Feb 18 () Shree Cement will replace private lender Yes Bank in the benchmark index Nifty 50 from March 27, NSE Indices, a subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), said on Tuesday. Further, Vodafone Idea, Ashok Leyland, Indiabulls Housing Finance, L&amp;T Finance Holdings and Shree Cement will be dropped from Nifty Next 50, NSE Indices said in a statement. Adani Transmission, IDBI Bank, Info Edge (India) Ltd, Larsen &amp; Toubro Infotech and Torrent Pharmaceuticals would be added in Nifty Next 50 index. Changes have been made in several indices including Nifty 500, Nifty 200, Nifty 100, Nifty Midcap 150, Nifty Smallcap 250 and host of sectoral indices including FMCG, IT, media, pharma, commodities and services sector. NSE Indices' Index Maintenance Sub-Committee has decided to make the replacement of stocks in various indices as part of its periodic review. These changes would become effective from March 27, 2020. Also, NSE Indices has revised the eligibility criteria for inclusion in Nifty's 17 sectoral indices. Under the new criteria, companies should be a part of Nifty 500 at the time of review. In case, the number of eligible stocks representing a particular sector within Nifty 500 falls below 10, then deficit number of stocks shall be selected from the universe of stocks ranked within top 800 based on both average daily turnover and average daily full market capitalisation based on previous six months period data used for index. The glitch occurred as rates on NSE stopped updating at 10.08, which led to the closure of the F&amp;O segment by 11.40 am and the cash market by 11.43 am. India’s largest stock exchange halts trading after data glitches stop Nifty50 and Bank Nifty from updating

New Delhi, Mar 12 () Troubled Yes Bank will be replaced in the Nifty banking index by Bandhan Bank from March 27, a subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange said on Thursday. The replacement has been done on account of non-availability of future and options contracts in Yes Bank shares, NSE Indices said in a statement. Last month, the exchange said that Yes Bank would be moved out from the benchmark index Nifty 50 from March 27. Besides, the bank would be dropped from from futures and options segment from May 29. Apart from the banking index, changes have also been made in several indices, including Nifty Alpha 50, Nifty High Beta 50, Nifty 500, Nifty Small-cap 250 and Nifty Midsmallcap 400. Earlier on June 6, the NSE had moved the expiry day for Nifty Bank Future &amp; Options (F&amp;O) contracts to Friday from Thursday effective July 7. The reason for the change in stance is that the proposed Friday expiry of Bank Nifty coincided with the expiry of the Sensex/ Bankex F&amp;O contracts that were relaunched by BSE in mid-May. “Considering the need for balanced market development and avoidance of concentration risk in the market, BSE has requested NSE to consider shifting of the <keyword id="15021649" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bank-nifty-expiry" source="Orion">Bank Nifty expiry</keyword> to any day other than Friday. This will help in growing this complementing Sensex/Bankex derivatives and thus de-risk the market,” reads the joint statement from both the exchanges. In accordance with the request, the NSE has withdrawn its earlier plan. The first Friday expiry was to be on July 14. By scheduling the above mentioned expiry on Friday, NSE was set to have an F&amp;O expiry four days a week. It's noteworthy that the Nifty Financial expiry is on Tuesday, Nifty Midcap Select on Wednesday, Nifty 50 on Thursday. The Nifty Financial expiry was earlier on Thursday but it was then shifted to Tuesday. Market analysts say that this shift helped ensure that traders could concentrate on individual expiries better and worked favourably for the exchange with trading volumes going up significantly in Nifty Financial.

Bank Nifty expiry will stay scheduled on Thursday after NSE scraps earlier plan

A sell-off in the Asian markets along with mixed early corporate results subdued India's key equity indices during the afternoon trade session on Thursday. Besides, inflationary concerns due to high transportation fuel prices dented sentiments. In contrast, the two key indices -- S&amp;P BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> and NSE Nifty50 -- had a gap-up opening. The 30-scrip sensitive index opened at 61,557.94 points from its previous close of 61,259.96 points. Besides, the NSE Nifty50 opened at 18,382.70 points from its previous close of 18,266.60 points. However, soon afterwards both the indices ceded much of their gains and traded flat. At 12.30 p.m., the 30-scrip sensitive index traded at 60,745.94 points, down 514.02 points or 0.84 per cent. Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 traded lower. It fell to 18,136.75, down 129.85 points or 0.71 per cent. Among sectors, consumer durables and IT fell the most whereas oil and gas' stocks rose. "Volumes on the NSE are a bit subdued while the advance decline ratio has improved compared to the past two days and is currently even," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. "Nifty could see slower pace in its fall and intermittent attempts to bounce up." According to Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at CapitalVia Global Research: "The Indian Benchmarks has cut some of its losses in the late morning session. Negative cues from other Asian markets impacted the domestic sentiments." "The losses were led by shares of information technology companies and Index major Reliance Industries. Losses got cut, as the Indian economy revives from the global pandemic gains through nationwide rapid vaccination drive." Equity market fall on inflation concerns, global cues; RIL, Infosys, TCS down 2%

The <keyword id="53581" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword> of India (NSE) on Thursday said it has received an approval from the <keyword id="155823" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Securities-Exchange-Board-of-India">Securities Exchange Board of India</keyword> (<keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword>) to launch derivatives on the <keyword id="4235902" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty-financial-services-index">Nifty Financial Services Index</keyword> in the 'futures &amp; options' segment of the exchange. Currently, the NSE offers index derivatives on only two equity indices '<keyword id="6136404" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty-50-index">Nifty 50 Index</keyword>' and the '<keyword id="3505641" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-Bank-Index">Nifty Bank Index</keyword>'. The exchange will launch the index derivatives from January 11, 2021. As per the NSE, the financial services sector assumes significance as the sector accounts for 33.5 per cent of the Nifty 500 index. "The Nifty Financial Services Index comprises of 20 stocks and is designed to reflect the behaviour and performance of the Indian financial market which includes banks, financial institutions, housing finance, insurance companies and other financial services companies," the NSE said in a statement. Recent investment data of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) indicates that 48 per cent of new investment flows were channelised into the financial services sector, as per the statement. "The sector accounted for 35 per cent of the assets under the custody of FPIs. Further, many of the asset management companies have mutual fund schemes on the financial sector theme." "The Nifty Financial Services index has a 94 per cent correlation and a beta value of 1.2 with the <keyword id="66115" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-50">Nifty 50</keyword> Index. It has a correlation of 98 per cent with the Nifty Bank index. The Nifty Financial Services index has delivered annualised returns of 14.99 per cent in the last 5 years." According to the exchange, it will offer 'futures and options' in seven serial weekly excluding the monthly expiry and three serial monthly contracts. "This is the first time that the exchange will make available weekly futures for the stock index derivatives," the statement said. SEBI approves the launch of derivatives on NSE's Nifty Financial Services Index starting January 11

New Delhi, Feb 19 () Shares of Shree Cement Ltd rose over 2 per cent on Wednesday as the stock is set to enter the Nifty 50 index from next month. NSE Indices, a subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday said that Shree Cement will replace private lender Yes Bank in the benchmark index Nifty 50 from March 27. On the BSE, the stock opened on a bullish note at Rs 25,000 then gained further ground and touched a high of Rs 25,222.90, registering a rise of 5.98 per cent during the day. The stock, however, pared some gains and closed at Rs 24,406.35, higher by 2.55 per cent over previous close. On the NSE, the stock settled at Rs 24,390, up 2.58 per cent over previous close. The stock has closed in green after settling the last six sessions in red. In terms of volume, more than 1.5 lakh shares were traded on the NSE and 20,000 units exchanged hands on the BSE. Moreover, the spurt in volume was more than 5.99 times during the day on the BSE. Further, Vodafone Idea, Ashok Leyland, Indiabulls Housing Finance, L&amp;T Finance Holdings and Shree Cement will be dropped from Nifty Next 50, as per NSE Indices. Meanwhile, shares of Yes Bank opened weak on Wednesday at Rs 34, then lost ground and touched an intra-day low of Rs 33.60, down 4.13 per cent over its previous close.
