The University of Delhi has released a list of 6,100 <keyword id="21977691" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vacant-seats" source="keywords">vacant seats</keyword> for the second round of undergraduate <keyword id="19962926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="admissions" source="keywords">admissions</keyword>, following the conclusion of the first round. Vacant seats have been displayed on the dashboards of the candidates. With 91.98 per cent (65,843) of seats already filled, candidates have been provided the opportunity to re-order their (college and course) preferences from August 22 to 23. The university aims to begin the <keyword id="20248930" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="academic-session" source="keywords">academic session</keyword> on August 29. As many as 65,843 candidates have confirmed their admission to undergraduate courses at <keyword id="19927119" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university" source="keywords">Delhi University</keyword> in the first round. The total number of <keyword id="22671029" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="undergraduate-seats" source="keywords">undergraduate seats</keyword> in <keyword id="21617246" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DU-colleges" source="keywords">DU colleges</keyword> is around 71,600. Early this month, the university began the allocation acceptance process, offering 97,387 seats in the first round. To ensure optimal seat occupancy, the administration decided to make extra allocations, targeting an academic session starting on August 29. The university is conducting admissions for 71,600 seats (excluding supernumerary seats) in 69 colleges and departments. There are 1,559 programme-college combinations available for admissions. This year, DU has introduced a feature on the candidates' dashboard, enabling them to view the details of <keyword id="22889419" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cutoffs-and-ranks" source="keywords">cutoffs and ranks</keyword> determining seat allocation based on category and quota. Earlier in the month, the University of Delhi (DU) climbed five spots to secure the 6th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (<keyword id="20051367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirf" source="keywords">NIRF</keyword>) 2024. DU Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh attributed this achievement to the collective efforts of the university's faculty, students, and staff. In the university category at the national level, DU had previously moved up two spots to reach the 11th position last year. This year, the university continued its upward trajectory, also climbing seven places in the overall ranking to secure the 15th spot.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Ministry of Education at an event at the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital that was presided by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Indian Institute of Technology Madras was ranked first in the <keyword id="22759868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIRF-rankings" source="keywords">NIRF rankings</keyword> 2024 and it is the 6th time that it has bagged the top spot in NIRF ranking. IIT-Madras has also been ranked as the best engineering college for the past nine years. In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad and Bangalore and Calcutta are among the top five. Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) ranked as the best university in the country followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia. Delhi University's Hindu College ranked as the best college in the country followed by Miranda House College and St. Stephen's College. IIT Madras ranked best higher educational institution in India

<ul><li><keyword id="6363378" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="srcc" source="Orion">SRCC</keyword>’s recruitment drive season saw a 32.34% increase in gross value of offers.</li><li>The highest package offered was ₹25 lakh per year, while average was ₹8.31 lakh per year.</li><li>Companies like McKinsey &amp; Company, Bain Capability Network, Dalberg Advisors, Deutsche Bank were top recruiters.</li></ul>The recruitment season 2020-21 of <keyword id="6542932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shri-ram-college-of-commerce" source="Orion">Shri Ram College of Commerce</keyword> (SRCC), which is located in north campus of Delhi University ⁠— is also ranked among the top 10 colleges list by National Institutional Ranking Framework (<keyword id="6396110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIRF" source="Orion">NIRF</keyword>) ⁠— observed a record of 350 plus offers extended by recruiters in more than 15 sectors with highest compensation of ₹25,00,000 per annum. The highest package offered was ₹25 lakh per year, the average package was ₹8,31,000 and the median package offered was ₹6,54,000. According to the data report shared by the <keyword id="12255129" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Placement-cell-of-SRCC" source="Orion">Placement cell of SRCC</keyword>, the recruitment drive registered a record 32.34% increment in the gross value of offers to a massive ₹30.48 crores. The report also highlights that there was a 29.62% surge in the number of offers given by companies to SRCC students despite COVID-19. The top-recruiting companies were McKinsey &amp; Company, Bain Capability Network, Dalberg Advisors, Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Accenture Strategy, Fischer Jordan. The internship season 2020-21 also recorded a significant result with the highest stipend offered was a whopping ₹1,50,000 per month, while the average stipend offered was ₹34,000 per month. Companies like Hindustan Unilever, DE Shaw, EY were top internship recruiters this season who extended offers across various domains. “Though we were a bit sceptical initially due to the economic recession, our fears turned out to be unfounded as the number of placement recruiters and the number of offers reached an all-time high. Moreover, as the competition for hiring the best talent intensifies, many recruiters have resorted to the PPO route, leading to 22 PPOs in this season, a milestone in itself.” said Ansh Goyal, Chief Secretary of SRCC’s Placement cell. Although <keyword id="624" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Women" source="Orion">women</keyword> represent 67 per cent of workers in the <keyword id="6354525" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Healthcare" source="Orion">healthcare</keyword> sector globally, they are paid 24 per cent less than their male counterparts, according to the first-ever global sectoral gender <keyword id="6357145" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pay-gap" source="Orion">pay gap</keyword> report co-developed by the International Labour Organisation and the World Health Organisation. The report documents a raw gender pay gap of roughly 20 percentage points which jumps to 24 percentage points when factors such as age, education and working time are taken into account. It noted that Covid-19 shone a light on the critical importance of health and care workers, <keyword id="6366244" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="WHO" source="Orion">who</keyword> were applauded and celebrated. But the pandemic also laid bare the extent of inequalities, notably the gender pay gap, that workers in this highly feminised sector have been facing for decades. While much of this gap is unexplained, the UN agencies said it is perhaps due to discrimination towards women. The report also revealed that wages in health and care tend to be lower overall when compared with other sectors, which is consistent with the finding that wages often are lower in areas where women are predominant. "The health and care sector has endured low pay in general, stubbornly large gender pay gaps, and very demanding working conditions. The Covid-19 pandemic clearly exposed this situation while also demonstrating how vital the sector and its workers are in keeping families, societies and economies going," said Manuela Tomei, Director of Conditions of Work and Equality Department at the ILO, in a statement. The report also found a wide variation in gender pay gaps in different countries, indicating that these gaps are not inevitable and that more can be done to close the divide. Within countries, gender pay gaps tend to be wider in higher pay categories, where <keyword id="2754" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Men" source="Orion">men</keyword> are over-represented, while women are over-represented in the lower pay categories. Mothers working in the health and care sector also appear to suffer additional penalties, with gender pay gaps significantly increasing during a woman's reproductive years and persisting throughout the rest of her working life. A more equitable sharing of family duties between men and women could lead to women making different job choices, according to the report. Tomei expressed hope that the report will spark dialogue and policy action as there will be no inclusive, resilient and sustainable post-pandemic recovery without a stronger health and care sector. "We cannot have better-quality health and care services without better and fairer working conditions, including fairer wages, for health and care workers, the majority of whom are women," she said.
