Beijing, China's new medium-lift carrier rocket Long March-8 made its maiden flight on Tuesday, sending five <keyword id="41530" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="satellites">satellites</keyword> successfully into planned orbit, the country's space agency said. The rocket was launched from <keyword id="10477350" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-wenchang-spacecraft-launch-site">the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site</keyword> in Hainan. The five experimental satellites will carry out the in-orbit verification of microwave imaging and other technologies. They will conduct experiments in space science, remote sensing and <keyword id="589992" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="communication-technologies">communication technologies</keyword>, official media reported. The Long March-8 rocket which has a total length of 50.3 meters, and a take-off mass of 356 tonnes can carry a payload of at least 4.5 tonnes to a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 700 km, <keyword id="9883300" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-china-national-space-administration">the China National Space Administration</keyword> (CNSA) said. The rocket fills the gap in China's launch capability to the sun-synchronous orbit from 3 tonnes to 4.5 tonnes, and is of great significance for accelerating the upgrading of launch vehicles, it said. On December 17, China's Chang'e-5 probe successfully completed the mission to bring home the first samples of the moon in over 40 years. A major space power, China launched its first Mars mission 'Tianwen-1' on July 23 this year. The Mars spacecraft which included an orbiter, lander and rover is on its way to the red planet. The new rocket, which was developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT), will enrich China's launch vehicle variety and help expand the country's aerospace activities, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. It will promote the upgrading of China's medium-sized launch vehicles and satisfy the needs of high-density launch missions for medium and low-orbit satellites Xiao Yun, chief commander of the rocket said. Song Zhengyu, chief designer of the Long March-8 rocket from the CALT, said the design of the rocket was based on technologies developed for previous Long March rockets. "It will lay a technological foundation for the development of large and heavy rockets, shortening development periods and reducing costs," Song said. The rocket can send one or multiple satellites in a single launch, and can undertake launch networking missions for low-Earth orbit satellites, according to Wu Yitian, deputy chief designer of the rocket. China's new space carrier rocket successfully launches five satellites on its maiden flight

As per a report published in Economic Times, the company is undergoing a restructuring program, as part of which it has relocated its skills and career centers from South Africa and Mexico to India and China. 
 
The IT biggie is targeting India and China as potent markets for the expansion program. 
 <keyword id="2932230" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Keshav-Patwardhan">Keshav Patwardhan</keyword>, who has lately replaced <keyword id="149566" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-K-Thadani">Vijay K Thadani</keyword> as the NIIT CEO has said, "Our skills and careers business is essentially now focused only on India and China. We had around 60 centers in countries where we decided to discontinue our operations so that we can redirect all the resources to focus on India and China." 
 
The company, which is running 139 colleges across 66 cities in China, was established there in 1997. As per NIIT’s account, it has trained more than 150,000 students in China and is now focusing on Big Data and data analytics. 
 
Not just this, but the company is also opening doors for start-ups and retraining mid-tier IT professionals. Another major target area of NIIT is to launch new short and intense programs around SMAC (Social, Mobile, Analytic and Cloud). 
 
The NIIT cloud campus which was earlier restricted to the registered NIIT students is now open for all. For infrastructure, it is planning to partner with schools and colleges. The multi-tasking centers too are being stretched out to 600 with 300 more in Sector C and D cities. "All the centers will offer our entire curriculum and not just IT training," informed Patwardhan.

NIIT- A global skill and career center in the making

<keyword id="6358777" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword>, The <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> has received over 120 <keyword id="44749" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foreign-Direct-Investment">foreign direct investment</keyword> (FDI) <keyword id="10476259" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="proposals-worth">proposals worth</keyword> about ₹12,000 crore from China since April, when it was made mandatory for a company from countries sharing land border with India to invest in any sector only after getting government approval, sources said. As per that decision, FDI proposals from China need government approval for investments in India in any sector. An inter-ministerial committee has been formed by the government to scrutinise these proposals, they said adding most of the investments are for <keyword id="2206799" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="brownfield-projects">brownfield projects</keyword> (means in existing Indian companies). In April this year, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) came out with a press note stating that a company or an individual from a country that shares land border with India can invest in any sector here only after getting government approval. The decision was taken to curb opportunistic takeovers or acquisitions of <keyword id="435048" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-firms">domestic firms</keyword> due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. "We have received 120-130 FDI proposals from China, worth about Rs 12,000 crore - Rs 13,000 crore," they added. India received FDI from China worth USD 2.43 billion (Rs 15,526 crore) between April 2000 and September 2020. Further sources said that certain Chinese companies have applied for registration for bidding in government contracts and those proposals have been sent to the home ministry. There are no restrictions on Chinese firms for bidding in projects funded by multilateral institutions, they said. Indian government has reportedly received 120-130 FDI proposals worth ₹12,000 crore from China since April

Off lately, <keyword id="398704" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-IT-firms">Indian IT firms</keyword> have been facing setbacks because of protectionism in the US market. This has forced the IT majors to look for other options, and China is coming up as a possible choice. China is also keen to invite Indian IT majors to participate in the Big Data sector. Rajendra Pawar, the chairman of NIIT, was recently invited by the Guizhou province in China to become a member of its own advisory committee for development of Big Data business with the help of international collaborations. NIIT has a strong presence in China's IT education scene, having opened its largest big data training facility in Guizhou’s capital city Guiyang. "China has closely observed the phenomenon where Indian IT sector has grown by adding huge value to developed countries. This is why they would like to collaborate with Indian companies in a big way," Pawar told TOI. Chinese companies wish to collaborate with Indian firms to operate in complex areas like analysing large blocks of data so that they can be put to wider use. Other than this, they are also interested in investing in Indian startups. "All companies in our delegation are hopeful of landing business in China. US protectionism forces IT firms to eye opportunities in China

New Delhi, <keyword id="10475830" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="smartphone-brand-oppo">Smartphone brand OPPO</keyword> on Tuesday announced to set up first <keyword id="764355" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G">5G</keyword> innovation lab at its Hyderabad R&amp;D centre, adding that it will soon introduce three additional innovation labs dedicated towards camera, <keyword id="44011" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="power">power</keyword> and battery and performance. The company said that these labs will focus on making the latest and the most <keyword id="599504" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Advanced-technologies">advanced technologies</keyword> for the world. The team in India will also lead innovations for other countries, including Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Japan, and Europe. The new lab will deepen the development of core product technologies for 5G ecosystem and accelerate its rollout in the country. Oppo to set up its first 5G innovation lab in Hyderabad

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/49170892.cms" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /> In a significant initiative to break into the highly-regulated Chinese market, five top Indian IT firms, <keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>, <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>,Tech Mahindra and NIIT have for the first time formed a consortium to help in massive infrastructure development projects planned by China's southwest Guizhou province, which includes setting up a major cloud-based data centre, Prakash Menon, Shanghai-based president of the NIIT, told PTI. 

	The NIIT has signed an MoU with the provincial government for the $16 million project to train IT professionals.
 

	This is a first that Indian IT majors, who have struggled in the highly-regulated Chinese market despite India's push to China to open up, have joined hands for Chinese projects.
 

	India has consistently asked China to open up its market for IT and Pharmaceuticals - two of India's most successful export ventures - as a means to address the trade deficit surpassing $40 billion out of a total bilateral trade volume of $70 billion last year.
 

	TCS China president Sujit Chatterjee said it is a new beginning as it's the first time a Chinese province has sought Indian IT sector's help for its infrastructure development.
 Despite being leaders, Indian IT firms have struggled over the years in China as businesses are mainly garnered by global companies such as <keyword id="10875" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword>, in association with local firms. 

	"Our footprints will never match IBM and others. Key to success here is to collectively stand together as a front. If that happens nobody can fathom the kind of capability Indian IT has," Chatterjee said.
 

	He, however, cautioned that this was a regional initiative confined to Guizhou province.
 

	But "if this is successful it can be replicated across industries including pharmaceuticals and sister-city initiatives and energy projects," he said.
 

	"This group needs to stick together but the moment someone bypasses it, it will collapse."
 

	Asked how the five would split the business in a fiercely competitive sphere, Chatterjee, whose company has made a much bigger mark in China compared to other Indian IT firms, said the consortium is formed with an understanding that project allocation will be based on strength and past record of firms.
 

	"All of us have references, proof of presence, which is very important. No single company has all of it and different companies have done different things," he said.
 

	Chatterjee along with Menon and Madhav Sharma, CII China's Chief Representative, met Indian Ambassador Ashok K Kantha and briefed him on the initiative. Kantha will travel to Guizhou in the second week of October over the project.

Top 5 Indian IT firms strategise to penetrate Chinese market

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/48447787.cms" /> The Bank <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> led major indices lower on Wednesday as traders turned bearish on equities after a sharp global sell-off following China's surprise devaluation of its currency. Banks, Tyre stocks and metal companies were the worst hit. 
 
The Nifty fell 44 points to 8,418 in early deals, dangerously close to its 200-day moving average. The Advance-Decline Ratio was at 10/40 with Hindalco, NMDC, Coal India, Bharti Airtel and Tata Motors taking the first five slots on the losers' list. Tata Steel and Sun Pharma, post their earnings, Tech Mahindra, TCS and Infosys were the top gainers on the Index, where Yes Bank was the most actively traded counter. 
 
Major indices were bathed in red. The CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 Indexes lost between 0.5-0.6 percent. The Bank Nifty fell 136 points, or 0.7 percent, to 18,481 on dismal numbers posted by SBI. CNX Metals, CNX PSU Bank and CNX Auto Indexes were the top losers in the sectoral space on the National Stock Exchange. The CNX IT index was the lone sectoral gainer as it a reverse play on the weakness of the Rupee. 
 And on the Bombay Stock Exchange, the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> fell 127 points to 27,738 points in initial trades on Wednesday. As a consequence, the Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 10/20. M&amp;M, BHEL and ICICI Bank were major losers compared with Tata Steel, Wipro and Lupin that gained ground. 
 
The Futures and Options market was also on the backfoot with Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil, Hindalco and Coal India leading the list of losers versus Sun Pharma, Divi's Labs, Reliance Power and Tech Mahindra that made it to the list of gainers. The Advance-Decline Ratio, meanwhile, stood at 41/120. 
 
The broader market, too, was dominated by the bears in the first half hour of trade with 583 shares rising compared with 933 that fell. 
 
Ajanta Pharma, NIIT Technologies and Chennai Petro struck fresh highs in the first 20 minutes of trade and Jubilant Life Sciences, Mukta Arts and Educomp solutions made it to the volume buzzers list on the NSE. 
 
GAIL, Hindalco and Hind Zinc figured on the list of stocks hitting lowest in 52 weeks.
