The <keyword id="3274960" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-High-Speed-Rail-Corporation-Limited">National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited</keyword> (NHSRCL) on Saturday said that it has opened two <keyword id="1115984" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Technical-bids">technical bids</keyword> for <keyword id="34617" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="construction">construction</keyword> or building of bridges for the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor in the state of <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> and <keyword id="382155" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dadra">Dadra</keyword> and Nagar Haveli in which nine companies have participated. NHSRCL spokesperson Sushma Gaur said that the technical bids for contract packages of P-1(B) and P-1(C) for construction or building of bridges for the MAHSR corridor in the state of Gujarat as well union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. She said that as of now, 5 bidders for <keyword id="10880154" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="p-1">P-1</keyword> (C) whereas four bidders for P-1 (B) have submitted their bids for the package. She said that the P-1 (C) package includes construction of bridges for double line High Speed railway for four PSC Bridges and seven steel truss bridges between Zaroli Village at Maharashtra -- Gujarat Border and Vadodara, in Gujarat and the union territory of Dadar and Nagar Haveli for the project. Gaur said that for the P-1 (C) package, Ranjit Buildcon Limited, MG Contractors Pvt Ltd, KEC-SAM India JV and GRIL-GPT JV have participated in the technical bids. Meanwhile, package P-1 (B) includes the construction of bridges for double line high speed railway for one PSC Bridge and four steel truss bridges between Vadodara and <keyword id="5065" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ahmedabad">Ahmedabad</keyword>, in Gujarat for the project. She said that Ranjit Buildcon Limited, MG Contractors Pvt Ltd, KEC-SAM India JV and GRIL-GPT JV and URC Construction Pvt Ltd have participated in the technical bids. Tech bids open for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train bridge project, says NHSRCL

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) requires 1,415 hectares of land for which it has allocated around ₹100 billion. However, according to a report in the <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/first-bullet-train-tender-goes-out-for-a-bridge-5247758/">Indian Express</a> it has so far managed to acquire only around 0.9 hectares. Today (6 July), however, the NHSRCL has made a teeny tiny headway and has floated its first tender for building a bridge in the Navsari district of Gujarat. In all, around 60 bridges are to be built in the 508-km high-speed corridor. The NHSRCL has resorted to novel methods like recruiting women from the 73 villages where the land is to be acquired to help with the negotiation process, a method that is apparently working. These women have been successful in facilitating a dialogue between the heads of the villages and NHSRCL engineers for the joint measurement survey. In fact, they have managed to get the survey team into villages where earlier the team was threatened with violence and couldn’t even enter. Apart from this, a team of 15 women from various blocks have been roped in to explain the compensation packages being offered and the exact land requirements to the villagers. But, all things considered, this is a minute step forward for this mammoth project. It is still unclear whether the deadline to start civil work by December 2018-January 2019 will be met. The NHSRCL spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar, however, is quite confident and told the <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/first-bullet-train-tender-goes-out-for-a-bridge-5247758/">Indian Express</a> that they are “on schedule as per the timeline of the project”. <ul><li>The government is readying the purchase of 18 E5 Series bullet trains from <keyword id="6355311" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan">Japan</keyword> for ₹70 billion, an inside source told Economic Times. </li><li>The bullet-train project is being developed with a soft loan from the <keyword id="6395487" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan-international-cooperation-agency">Japan International Cooperation Agency</keyword> (JICA). </li><li>The Indian government plans to launch the country’s first bullet train route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by 2023.</li></ul>India’s bullet train project is all set to get underway. The government is readying the purchase of 18 bullet trains from Japan for ₹70 billion, an inside source told <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/railways/india-on-track-to-buy-18-bullet-trains-from-japan-for-rs-7000-crore/articleshow/65678899.cms">ET</a>. A tender for the procurement of bullet trains from Japanese manufacturers is expected to go live soon. <keyword id="6817464" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Bullet-Train">The bullet train</keyword> model in question will be the Shinkansen E5 Series. First launched in 2011, The 10-compartment train can travel up to speeds of 320 km/hr and has three seating classes. Interestingly, the transaction includes the transfer of all technologies required for the assembling and domestic production of such trains. Japanese train manufacturers Kawasaki and Hitachi are both expected to set up production facilities in the country at some point. If this does come to fruition, this could provide a major boost to the Make in India programme. The bullet-train project is being developed with a soft loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The total credit facility is around ₹880 billion and is payable over 50 years at a nominal rate of 0.1%. Japan and India have a strong history when it comes to partnering on rail networks. JICA also extended a loan and technical assistance to the state government of Delhi for the development of the city’s metro network. A launch by 2023 The Indian government plans to launch the country’s first bullet train route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by 2023. The train corridor is 508-kms long and is currently being built in tandem with Japanese experts. There will be 12 stations on the route. The starting fares for the bullet train journey are expected to be ₹3000. Prior to that, a shorter route between the Gujarati cities of Surat and Billimora is expected to become operational in 2022. The project will only meet its deadline if the <keyword id="6355455" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-railways">Indian Railways</keyword> is able to acquire land for the project by the end of the year. There has been resistance from landowners in <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> and <keyword id="13126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword> to the project. Their demands include government jobs and higher compensation. However, despite this, officials from the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) are confident of meeting the December 2018 deadline for land acquisition. Meanwhile, the High-Speed Training Institute, which is a key part of the project, is being built in Vadodara. Set up at an initial cost of ₹6 billion, the institute will be expected to train the 3,500 personnel required to operate bullet trains in the initial phase of development.

India will spend ₹70 billion on its first batch of bullet trains

Passengers will get the thrill of riding under the sea while travelling between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in the first <keyword id="490067" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bullet-train">bullet train</keyword> of the country. 
 The 508 km long <keyword id="3126397" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Ahmedabad-high-speed-rail-corridor">Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor</keyword> will have a 21 km long tunnel under the sea, said a senior Railway Ministry official involved with the public transporter's ambitious bullet train project. 
 
While most part of the corridor is proposed to be on the elevated track, there will be a stretch after Thane creek towards Virar which will go under the sea as per the detailed project report by JICA. 
 
Estimated to cost about Rs 97,636 crore, 81 per cent of the funding for the project will come by way of a loan from Japan. The project cost includes possible cost escalation, interest during construction and import duties. 
 
It is a soft loan for 50 years at 0.1 per cent annual interest with 15 years' moratorium, said the official. 
 Rolling stock and other equipment like signalling and power system will be imported from Japan as per the <keyword id="1169184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="loan-agreement">loan agreement</keyword>. 
 
The official said the loan agreement with Japan is slated to be signed by the end of the year and construction work is likely to begin by the end of 2018. 
 According top priority to the first of its kind project, railways has formed <keyword id="3274960" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-High-Speed-Rail-Corporation-Limited">National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited</keyword> (NHSRCL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV), with a paid-up capital of Rs 500 crore. 
 
A search committee comprising senior government officials including Cabinet Secretary, Chairman Railway Board and Secretary DOPT among others is on the job currently to select the Managing Director and five directors for the NHSRCL. 
 
Railways has already allotted Rs 200 crore for the SPV. Maharashtra and Gujarat will have equity of 25 per cent each, while the Railways will have 50 per cent in the SPV. 
 
The bullet train is expected to cover 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in about two hours, running at a maximum speed of 350 kmph and operating speed of 320 kmph. 
 
At present, Duronto Express takes about seven hours to cover the distance between the two financial centres. 
 For timely completion of the project, a joint committee has been formed under the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog with the secretaries of the <keyword id="6423836" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Department-of-Industrial-Policy-and-Promotion">Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion</keyword> (DIPP), Departments of Economic Affairs and Foreign Ministry as its members along with the Railway Board Chairman.
