New Delhi, Mar 11 () State-run hydro power giant NHPC on Wednesday said it has raised Rs 500 crore through issuance of bonds on private placement basis. "NHPC Ltd has raised Rs 500 crore on 11.03.2020 through private placement of secured, redeemable, taxable, non-cumulative, non-convertible 6.89 per cent NHPC AA-1 Series Bonds," it said in a BSE filing. The bonds are proposed for listing at Wholesale Debt Market (WDM) segment of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), it added. KKS ABM

NHPC raises Rs 500 cr via bonds

New Delhi, Mar 4 () State-owned hydropower giant NHPC on Wednesday said it has paid Rs 840.96 crore as an interim dividend to the Centre for the financial year 2019-20. NHPC had paid an interim dividend of Rs 526.53 crore to the Government of India for the financial year 2018-19, the company said in a statement. "NHPC paid an interim dividend of Rs 840.96 crore to the Government of India for the financial year 2019-20 on March 3, 2020," it said. The company added that the dividend payout bank advice was presented to Power and New &amp; Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh by NHPC CMD A K Singh on Wednesday, in the presence of Power Secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai and Power Joint Secretary (Hydro) Aniruddha Kumar. The firm's board of directors in its meeting held on February 7 had declared an interim dividend for the financial year 2019-20 at the rate of Rs 1.18 per equity share, which is 11.80 per cent of the face value. New Delhi, Mar 11 () State-owned hydro power giant NHPC on Wednesday said it has signed a pact with Cement Corporation of India (CCI) for meeting cement requirements of its 2,880-megawatt Dibang Multipurpose Project. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NHPC Chairman and Managing Director A K Singh and CCI Chairman and Managing Director B V N Prasad on Wednesday, according to a statement by NHPC. The MoU will pave the way for addressing the cement requirement for the project. CCI has proposed to install a clinker grinding unit near the project area, which, besides fulfilling the cement requirements of the project, will also generate employment opportunities in the area. NHPC signs pact with Cement Corporation to meet Dibang project's cement requirements

New Delhi, Feb 7 () State-owned hydro power giant NHPC on Friday posted over two-fold jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 639.13 crore in December quarter mainly on the back of higher revenues. The company had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 287.96 crore in the year-ago period, NHPC said in a BSE filing. Total income rose to Rs 2,279.45 crore in the third quarter of 2019-20 from Rs 1,974.92 crore a year ago. Net profit for nine months to December 2019 rose to Rs 3,086.08 crore as compared to Rs 2,232.88 crore in corresponding period of last fiscal. Net profit for the financial year 2018-19 was Rs 2,835.79 crore. The company also announced an interim dividend of Rs 1.18 per equity share. The board has fixed February 19, 2020, as record date for the purpose of ascertaining eligibility of shareholders for payment of interim dividend. KKS RUJ

NHPC posts over two-fold jump in net profit at Rs 639 cr

New Delhi, Mar 16 () State-owned NHPC on Monday said its arm Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Ltd (LTHPL) has awarded a civil works order worth Rs 1,248 crore for 500-MW Teesta-VI plant in Sikkim on Gammon Engineers and Contractors. "LTHPL has awarded the Lot-II package of Construction of Balance Civil Works Package of 500 MW Teesta-VI HE Project, Sikkim to Gammon Engineers and Contractors Private Ltd on March 15, 2020, for a contract price of Rs 1,248.44 crore," NHPC said in a statement. This package includes works for underground power house and transformer cavern, part of HRT-I &amp; HRT-II (headrace tunnel), surge shafts, pressure shafts and adits (water tunnel inspection points), TRT (tailrace tunnel) and other associated structures. The work has been awarded in record time well before the scheduled date. NHPC provided the consultancy works for the same, including invitation of bids, tendering and evaluation. Earlier, LTHPL was implementing the 500 MW (125 MWx4) Teesta-VI hydroelectric project on Teesta river in Sikkim. NHPC had acquired this project through the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) route after the NCLT's Hyderabad bench approved the resolution plan of NHPC on July 26, 2019, for the debt-ridden LTHPL. The project will be completed at an estimated project cost of Rs 5,748.04 crore (at July 2018 price level), which includes acquisition cost of Rs 897.50 crore. NHPC is committed to completing the project within five years. The project is expected to generate 2,400 million units of electricity in a 90 per cent dependable year. KKS HRS

NHPC arm LTHPL awards Rs 1,248 cr civil works order on Gammon Engineers and Contractors

New Delhi, Dec 27 () State-run engineering firm BHEL on Friday said it has commissioned the first renovated 60 MW unit of NHPC's 180 MW Baira Siul hydro project in Himachal Pradesh.
 Baira Siul is the first hydro station of state-run hydro power giant NHPC to have been taken up for comprehensive Renovation &amp; Modernisation (R&amp;M).
 "BHEL has successfully renovated and modernised one unit of the 3x60 MW Baira Siul Hydro Power in Himachal Pradesh," a BHEL statement said.
 BHEL had won the order for R&amp;M of three units of the hydro power station located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh amidst stiff competitive bidding. 
 The R&amp;M of the other two units is under various stages of execution.
 BHEL's scope in the project comprises design, manufacture, supply, replacement and commissioning of critical parts of turbines and auxiliaries, governors, generators and control and monitoring.
 The R&amp;M of the project will result in restoration of output capacity and improvement in efficiency, in addition to leading to better plant availability and life extension of equipment.
 BHEL is also the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of these hydro units. 
 The company is currently executing hydroelectric projects of more than 6,000 MW, which includes 2,910 MW of projects within the country and 3,224 MW abroad.
 In addition, BHEL is also carrying out comprehensive R&amp;M of more than 699 MW hydro projects across the country. KKS RVK

BHEL commissions renovated 60 MW unit of NHPC's Baira Siul hydro power project in Himachal

The Modi-led government is banking among other things on its ambitious <a href="http://businesstoday.intoday.in/story/disinvestment-process-arvind-mayaram-ongc-nhpc/1/209842.html" target="_blank" title="Disinvestment process to start in 2-3 months: Mayaram">disinvestment programme </a>to pare fiscal deficit—the amount of money it borrows to fund its expenses—from 4.5 % of gross domestic product in 2013-14 to 4.1% in 2014-15. However, like the previous <keyword id="26374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPA-government">UPA government</keyword>, the new NDA regime too is unlikely to meet its divestment target. 
 It recently approved share-sale plan in three state-owned companies—Coal India (CIL), National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (<keyword id="45180" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NHPC">NHPC</keyword>) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). This will help it scoop up Rs 44,000 crore, which looks close to the government’s target of raising Rs 43,425 crore from stake sale in public sector companies in the current financial year. However, even the most optimistic empathisers say the government is likely to miss the target. 
 The government plans to sell 10% stake in <keyword id="45383" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-India">Coal India</keyword>, 5% in ONGC and 11.36% NHPC which will fetch Rs 23,000 crore, Rs 18,000 crore and Rs 2,800 crore, respectively, at current market prices (it currently holds stakes of 89.65 per cent in Coal India, 85.96 per cent in NHPC and 68.94 per cent in ONGC). 
 The track record of the government in meeting divestment target is far from impressive—it missed target for the last financial years (last year, it raise only Rs 16,027 crore against a target of Rs 40,000 crore). So far this year, it has managed to raise only Rs 1,700 crore, by divesting a 5% Steel Authority of India (<keyword id="6357529" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAIL">SAIL</keyword>). 
 
A clutch of factors may hinder the government from meeting its target this year as well. Its plan to scoop up Rs 23,000 crore via sale of 10% in Coal India is too big to be achieved. This will be the first time the government is going to make such a huge offering (the largest share sale so far is Coal India’s Rs 15,000-crore IPO in October 2010) and if the market has the appetite to absorb such a humongous offer is yet to be seen. The government may also find it hard to overcome the stiff resistance from trade unions that are vehemently opposed to stake sale in Coal India. 
 Another concern is about ONGC. Crude oil prices have been trading at historic lows of late amid worries of a supply glut (prices have already dipped below $60 per barrel, which is a multi-year low) after <keyword id="47969" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Opec">OPEC</keyword> decided not to cut production in the last week of November. Non-OPEC member Russia, another top oil producer, too indicated it will not pare production. So whether investors would be ready to invest in ONGC at a time when oil prices have seen an unprecedented decline is another question. 
 
Also, the government would need active participation from public-sector financial institutions such as Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to make the stake sale in Coal India and ONGC, etc. a success. For instance, in 2011-12, LIC invested around Rs 12,000 crore to pick part of ONGC shares that were on offer. However, this time around analysts expect the life insurance major to stay away from such an indulgence as its premium collection has failed to gain speed so far this year—a sign of increasing competition from a litany of private sector players that are trying to defeat life insurance behemoth on its own turf. 
 Another factor which will decide the success of this year’s stake sale is participation from global investors. However, considering the dip in inflows from FIIs to the <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> in recent times, participation from global players including sovereign wealth funds may be a dampener. Whether this year’s <keyword id="981290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Divestment-plan">divestment plan</keyword> is going to be a bang or a whimper will also be dependent on how well finance ministry and divestment department are going to market the salability of the public-sector biggies that are on the block.

Will Modi Government’s Divestment Plan Turn A Whimper?

The government is planning to create public sector energy giants with an enomous restructuring exercise that will merge all state-run hydropower firms and transfer their thermal projects to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to create strong companies that can take on the rapidly growing private conglomerates. 
 As per the proposal, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (<keyword id="45180" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NHPC">NHPC</keyword>), Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (<keyword id="60609" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SJVN">SJVN</keyword>), Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (<keyword id="175865" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="THDC">THDC</keyword>) and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) may be merged into one entity that will control 10,000 MW of existing and 32,500 MW of proposed capacity. 
 
The proposal has been welcomed by the executives of big firms but it also has created a flutter among the executives of smaller companies as the merger can lead to redundancies or shift a senior manager in a small firm to a comparatively lower position in the big one. It would also abolish several positions of directors and chief executives. 
 
Power Minister Piyush Goyal first discussed the proposal at a meeting on July 2 with the public sector undertakings and gave SBI Caps the nod to come up with a plan, a senior government official said. The official said NTPC and NHPC welcomed the proposal during the meeting. "SBI Caps has suggested merging the four hydro PSUs into one for increasing efficiency, better management and expertise. The power minister believes that one umbrella company will reduce costs and manage the related challenges in an efficient way," the official said.

KOLKATA: Ten hydro-electric projects (HEPs) of <keyword id="158865" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="NHPC-Ltd">NHPC Ltd</keyword> with an aggregate installed capacity of 8531 MW, which have been concurred by Central Electricity authority (CEA), are awaiting various other clearances such as <keyword id="6356826" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="environment">Environment</keyword> &amp; Forest clearance. 
 Three of these projects are in <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword>, 3 in <keyword id="46408" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arunachal-Pradesh">Arunachal Pradesh</keyword>, 2 in Manipur, and 1 each in <keyword id="48118" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sikkim">Sikkim</keyword> and J&amp;K. These include Dibang Central (3000 MW) by NHPC in Arunachal Pradesh, Tipaimukh Central (1500 MW) by NHPC in Manipur, Pakal Dul (1000 MW) under Joint Venture in J&amp;K among others. 
 The projects would contribute up to 32.1 Billion Units of electricity per annum which would help to meet the power demand in the country. The <keyword id="126373" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Power">Ministry of Power</keyword> has highlighted need for quick clearances with respective Ministries particularly the <keyword id="423287" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Environment-Forests">Ministry of Environment &amp; Forests</keyword>.

Think Initial Public Offers (IPOs) are a sure-shot, quickfire method to make a quick buck? If so, then investing in some of India's biggest IPOs to date would have created multiple millionaires. However, if the data is to be believed, 18 out of India's top 30 IPOs by way of size have failed to deliver on the returns front. Recent data from Capitalmind PMS suggests that of all the mega IPOs India has seen in the past 2 decades, only 12 IPOs i.e. stocks of 12 companies have delivered more returns that what you would have received, had you bought and held your investments in Nifty500(which invests in biggest 500 companies by market size). The only outliers in the list of top 10 IPOs were Zomato (listed in July 2021) and Coal India (listed in April, 2010), which managed to generate excess returns i.e. more than what was generated by Nifty500. While Zomato's total return to date, which is considered a comprehensive gauge of a stock's profitability, stands at 265%, Coal India total returns are a massive 443%. In these cases, had you simply bought and held the Nifty500 index for a similar duration, your returns would've been 73%, and 435% respectively. Also, 5 of the biggest IPOs India has ever seen (Bajaj Housing Finance, Bharti Hexacom, Brainbees, Ola Electric) have come in the last 2 years. In some cases, having stayed put in your index investments would have yielded you far better returns. Consider this, FSN E-Commerce, Nykaa's parent company, listed on the exchanges on November 2021. Its total returns till date have been 2%, while had you invested in Nifty500 index, your returns would've been 53%. Similarly, the total returns to date on Bandhan Bank's stock, which listed in March 2018, was a negative 43%. But, the index has delivered a whopping 163% returns during the same time. Not really </h2>It is impossible to overlook the sheer number of public offerings seen in the Indian markets over the past 2 years. Around 600 share sale offers have already hit the market since 2023. Out of these, 335 have come in this year, as of October 2024. While over Rs 50,000 crores have been raised by these share sales so far since 2023, only 22% of these funds raises have come from companies who are hitting the market for the first time i.e. bringing out their IPOs. The rest have come from already listed companies seeking to raise more funds. The biggest IPO that India has seen to date, that of <keyword id="19906087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Hyundai" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Motor India, closes for subscription today. With an offer size of Rs 27,870.16 crore, it is 35% bigger than the previous biggest IPO in the country(LIC in May 2022). As of 12:30 pm today, Hyundai's offer had been 87% subscribed, with significant interest from QIBs and employees. At 0.43x, participation of retail investors remained largely subdued. Notably, an IPO is considered cancelled and withdrawn, if it fails to meet the 90% subscription threshold.
