He recalled that when Manmohan Singh was the PM, the then LoP Sushma Swaraj was given a seat allotted to cabinet ranks. The prime minister is an institution, and so is the leader of the opposition. The one-line whip issued on Tuesday by Jitendra Awhad, chief whip of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, said the meeting has been called by Sharad Pawar at 1 pm at Y B Chavan Centre on July 5, and the presence of all MLAs is mandatory. Pawar senior named Awhad as chief whip after nephew Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government with eight other MLAs on Sunday. The Ajit Pawar camp also issued a notice on Tuesday to all current and former legislators, parliamentarians, office-bearers, working committee members and others, asking them to attend a meeting convened by Sunil Tatkare, the Maharashtra unit president appointed by the group, at the MET institute's premises in suburban Bandra on Wednesday. The notice was issued by Shivajirao Garje, who has been expelled by the Sharad Pawar-led party for "indulging in anti-party activities". Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who belongs to the faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister <keyword id="6366108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajit-pawar" source="Orion">Ajit Pawar</keyword>, said the exact number of leaders can only be seen on the stage. "We will see the number of leaders sitting in on the stage and at other places. Supporters are signing papers and they are asked from where have they come. The exact number of leaders can only be seen on the stage," he said. NCP suffered a split on Sunday with Ajit Pawar joining the Eknath Shinde-BJP government along with eight other MLAs. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar has moved a disqualification petition against the nine MLAs to Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar. Ajit Pawar and Chhagan Bhujbal along with Dilip Patil, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Mundo, Dharmaraobaba Atram, Aditi Tatkare, Sanjay Bansode and Anil Patil joined Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis Maharashtra government on Sunday. Sharad Pawar has removed his close aide Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare from the party for "anti-party activities". "Your actions of supporting Ajit Pawar and the eight other MLAs, who have sworn oath as Ministers in violation of the party's direction and mandate, ex-facie amount to anti-party activities and that you deemed to have voluntarily left the membership of Nationalist Congress Party," Pawar said in a communication which was also sent to the two party MPs. "I formally remove your names from the Membership Register of the Party in view of your actions of voluntarily giving up membership of the Nationalist Congress Party," it said. The communication said the action of MPs, "in a surreptitious manner, without the knowledge or consent of the party president, amounts to the desertion of the party, which in turn invites disqualification from primary membership". Praful Patel, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been a close associate of Pawar and was appointed working president of NCP last month. NCP crisis: Supriya Sule reaches YB Chavan Centre for meeting called by Sharad Pawar

On expected lines, the <keyword id="54794" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nationalist-congress-party" source="Orion">Nationalist Congress Party</keyword> (<keyword id="42402" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ncp" source="Orion">NCP</keyword>) on Friday unanimously rejected the resignation of party's national President <keyword id="6364749" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sharad-pawar" source="Orion">Sharad Pawar</keyword> and requested him in one voice to continue in his post. The decision was taken at a meeting of the special panel set up by <keyword id="42401" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="pawar" source="Orion">Pawar</keyword> to name his successor after his dramatic announcement to step down, made on May 2, said NCP Vice-President Praful M. Patel, who is the convenor of the committee. Addressing a crowded media conference, Patel said that the panel's decision on two resolutions - rejecting the resignation and urging him to continue as party chief - shall be conveyed to Pawar for his final call in the matter. The committee also resolved that it was unable to elect another President in place of Pawar and requested him to continue till his full term ended, indicating that the party has fully united under him vis-A-vis recent speculation of a possible split. State President Jayant Patil said that the resolutions were passed in tune with everybody's expectations and now a team of senior leaders shall meet Pawar and convey it to him. The official decision was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers, tears of relief shed by some activists, singing and dancing by the party rank-and-file who had gathered outside the NCP headquarters. Patel said that the entire party has made its sentiments clear on Pawar's decision, and their views were again put forth at the committee meeting today, as the shell-shocked party grassroots workers eagerly awaited their decision. Sharad Pawar’s legwork at the age of 78 seems to have paid off

Vaghela, fondly known as Bapu by his supporters, on Monday tendered his resignation from the post of <keyword id="42402" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCP">NCP</keyword> national General Secretary as well as from its primary membership to NCP President <keyword id="6364749" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharad-Pawar">Sharad Pawar</keyword>. In his letter to Pawar, Vaghela stressed his displeasure of his removal from the post of state President and offering it to Jayant Patel (Boski), a former NCP legislator. He also expressed his displeasure against the lone NCP legislator in <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword>, Kandhal Jadeja, who voted in favour of BJP candidate, Narhari Amin, going against the party whip of voting in Congress's favour in the Rajya Sabha elections held on Friday. "On the day of the change in the presidentship in the state NCP and due to the recent political developments, despair has spread among the entire party workers, leaders and taluka, district and state functionaries. In view of the aforesaid reasons, I express my resignation along with resignations of other functionaries," said Vaghela in his letter. Meanwhile, the NCP on Monday issued notice to Jadeja for not following the party whip to vote for the Congress candidate. Vaghela, a former BJP member, had quit the saffron party in 1996, to form his own Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) to form government in Gujarat with the Congress's support. Hi later merged his party with the Congress. In 2017, prior to the Rajya Sabha elections, he quit the Congress and formed his own party. He had joined the NCP in 2019.

Maharashtra party chief Jayant Patil has reached the residence of Ajit Pawar to bring him back into the party fold. Jayant Patil however is very confident of bringing back Ajit, as he has included his name in the list of MLAs who will support him, as he intends to submit a letter to the governor today—claiming majority. “Ultimately he is part of NCP family and we are trying to convince him. After a midnight coup on late Friday, Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as CM and NCP leader Ajit Pawar as deputy CM by governor on early Saturday. However, ever since <keyword id="6364749" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharad-Pawar">Sharad Pawar</keyword> the numero uno of NCP and Uddhav Thackeray who was hoping to become the chief minister until late Friday night – made many claims. While senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut blamed Pawar for backstabbing, Sharad Pawar called Ajit Pawar’s actions—indiscipline. After that however the sworn-in deputy CM Pawar went back to his own personal residence, sparking rumours that he might make a U-turn once again. IThe Sena-Cong –NCP blamed had filed a case against the governor’s move to cancel President’s rule in the state and swear in Fadnavis –calling it illegal. The state went into a crisis mode after former frenemies--BJP and Sena could not agree on seat sharing, especially when it comes to the chief minister. Both these parties together could have reached the majority of 140 odd seats needed, but the fragile alliance which was evident even before polls could hold on. This was especially true after Sena won a<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/elections/news/maharashtra-state-assembly-election-2019-final-result/articleshow/71731412.cms"> surprisingly better mandate</a> with 56 seats shifting the balance of power. The fact that NCP and Congress also won 54 and 44 seats also made them a powerful combine. BJP, on the other hand, won 105 seats even as exit polls predicted a massive win of over 200.

The move has been triggered by the decision of a senior politician Sharad Pawar which is in the opposition in the state-- to visit the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a corruption case at Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank.  What are the restrictions imposed under Section 144? Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area. According to the law, every member of such 'unlawful assembly' can be booked for engaging in rioting. The law also disallows carrying any weapon in the areas mentioned and people can be detained for violating it. The maximum punishment for such an act is three years. The cops can detain people for protesting or engaging in any activity that may be considered as intended to cause unrest. In a sensational twist, Ajit Pawar quit as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra within four days of swearing in. He had broken away from NCP to support BJP-led government ditching his uncle Sharad Pawar ----and the alliance was forging with Shiv Sena and Congress.
