While the company has made several announcements for its different applications and services such as Search, <keyword id="691847" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-cloud" source="Orion">Google Cloud</keyword> and more, its announcements related to Google Pay were a key highlight of the event. Google is now entering the lucrative lending business in India, along with local partners. This is aimed at both small merchants and regular users. It is noteworthy that Google Pay enjoys a huge market share in India, handling over 30% of the total UPI transactions in the country. “Just like UPI revolutionised digital payments, digitising credit – with consent and privacy safeguards – can provide ways of expanding the reach of formal credit. And the lower transaction cost of digital credit delivery can enable smaller minimum ticket loan sizes, making it more suitable and approachable for more borrowers,” Google said in a post. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Credit for merchants" comment="subhead" text="Credit for merchants">Credit for merchants</cmsannotation> Google has announced several credit facilities for merchants, aimed at offering improved access to credit. This will be available to merchants, both online and offline, for the purchase of stock and supplies. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Sachet loans" comment="subhead2" text="Sachet loans">Sachet loans</cmsannotation> Merchants looking for a smaller credit can instead opt for sachet loans, which is being offered in partnership with DMI finance. Google for India – Sachet loans to credit on UPI, tech giant bets on lending

Shares of <keyword id="188355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTC-India-Financial-Services" source="Orion">PTC India Financial Services</keyword> declined around 18 per cent in early trade on Thursday as the company on Wednesday announced that three of its independent directors have resigned from their posts with immediate effect. At 11.15 a.m., the shares traded at Rs 21.15, down 17.5 per cent. Three independent directors were Kamlesh Shivji Vikamsey, Thomas Mathew T., and Santosh B. Nayar, respectively. They resigned over some corporate governance issues facing the company. This is apparently the first instance where all the independent directors of a company have resigned together. "We are in receipt of resignations from three independent directors mentioning some reasons. The matter will be addressed at the board level and subsequent updates will be communicated to all the stakeholders appropriately," the company said in a regulatory filing on Thursday. The company is promoted by PTC India, which is registered with RBI as NBFC. "As independent director, I have placed on record many times - specially over the past few months - my deep displeasure about the lack of appropriate information being made available to the Board," the regulatory filing in which Mathew's resignation was attached, read. "Even when supplied, I have questioned the very poor quality of information being shared with the directors as also complete disregard to timelines in flow of information to the directors between the company management and the board is necessary for the independent directors to function effectively and reasonably perform our duties," Mathew's resignation letter further read. PTC India Financial Services slips 18% after three independent directors resign

Warning against mushrooming of lending apps and their usurious recovery prices, the <keyword id="50847" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="reserve-bank" source="Orion">Reserve Bank</keyword> said it is not interested in penalizing operators or stifling innovation but wants them to follow the rules of the game, governor <keyword id="6359111" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="shaktikanta-das" source="Orion">Shaktikanta Das</keyword> said on Tuesday. Addressing the third edition of the global fintech summit here this evening, he said the intention of the central bank is not to penalize or stifle anyone but to ensure that everyone follows traffic rules. The statement assumes importance in the wake of the recent incidences wherein a few people who borrowed through these apps have been forced to commit suicide and the last week's incidence of a young pregnant woman being mowed down by the recovery agents of <keyword id="6428152" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mahindra-finance" source="Orion">Mahindra Finance</keyword> which financed her father's tractor in Bihar. Since the past two years, when the negative loan app incidents began to surface the central bank had made many changes in the rule book, including mandating the loan apps to upfront disclose on whose <keyword id="6355260" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nbfc" source="Orion">NBFC</keyword>'s or bank's behalf the money was being disbursed. Why the <keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> has not introduced the first loss default guarantee in the recently introduced guidelines for the lending apps, the governor said, our intention is not to penalize anybody or stifle anyone else activity. All that we are saying is that please follow the traffic rules, Das said. “The Reserve Bank will continue to be supportive of it (digital lending) and will welcome it. We will, in fact, go two steps forward to discuss with you if you just take one step forward. But having said that, these innovations also must be responsible and should enhance the efficiency and resiliency of the financial system while benefiting the consumer. “Robust internal product and service assurance framework together with fair and transparent governance will go a long way to safeguard the interest of customers and ensure long-term sustainability of fintech entities themselves,” Das said. Shaktikanta Das wants lending apps to 'follow the rules of the game'

New Delhi, May 22 () Bank and NBFC stocks on Friday tumbled up to 8 per cent after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended moratorium on loan repayments. "The markets have initially reacted negatively to the RBI announcement. The Street keeps expecting more and more reliefs without knowing as to how each of these will be helpful. Shareholders of banks are worried by the current economic conditions and the pain that is postponed due to the moratorium being extended," said HDFC Securities MD &amp; CEO Dhiraj Relli. Shares of Axis Bank plunged 6.78 per cent, ICICI Bank dropped 6.12 per cent, RBL Bank 5.71 per cent, IndusInd Bank 4.59 per cent, Federal Bank 4.32 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank 2.85 per cent, HDFC Bank 2.71 per cent and SBI 1.57 per cent on the BSE. The BSE BANKEX was trading lower by 2.64 per cent. Among non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), Ujjivan Financial Services tumbled 8.25 per cent, Shriram Transport Finance Company tanked 8 per cent, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Financial Services 6.20 per cent and Bajaj Finance 5.66 per cent. The RBI has announced further extension in moratorium period to end-borrowers from May 31 till August 31. We read this as major negative for all NBFCs (including the ones with strong liability franchises) as this would further delay the overall collection and recovery procedure, and stretch the total liquidity cycle for all. In addition, this would further damage financial discipline, especially for small-ticket borrowers and MFIs (microfinance institutions)," Emkay Global Financial Services said in a note. Jimeet Modi, founder and CEO of SAMCO Securities &amp; StockNote said, "Extension of moratorium is good for the economy but in substance, it will negatively impact banks and NBFCs. As a whole, the RBI has taken a calibrated approach to save the economy rather than favouring banks." The RBI on Friday slashed interest rates, extended moratorium on loan repayments and allowed banks to lend more to corporates in an effort to support the economy which is likely to contract for the first time in over four decades. The benchmark repurchase (repo) rate was cut by 40 basis points to 4 per cent, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said announcing the decisions taken by the central bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) that met ahead of its scheduled meeting in early June. The RBI supplemented the interest rate cut by extending by three months the permission given to all banks to give a three-month moratorium on payment of monthly instalments on all outstanding loans, providing relief to home and auto buyers as well as the real estate sector where construction activities are already at a standstill.
