Mumbai, The key Indian equity indices opened on a <keyword id="3447767" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Positive-note">positive note</keyword> on Wednesday with the <keyword id="53232" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-sensex">BSE Sensex</keyword> hitting a fresh high of 45,897.23 points. The recent bull-run has been on the back of a similar trend in the global markets amid optimism on the vaccine front for novel coronavirus. Oil and gas, metal, energy and IT stocks led the across-the-board buying on Wednesday morning. Around 9.16 a.m., Sensex was trading at 45,846.68, higher by 238.17 points or 0.52 per cent from its previous close of 45,608.51 points. It opened at 45,891.04 and has touched an intra-day low of 45,792.01 points. The Nifty50 on <keyword id="163439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-National-Stock-Exchange">the National Stock Exchange</keyword> was trading at 13,463.35, up 70.40 points or 0.53 per cent from its previous close. The top gainers on the Sensex were ONGC, ITC and TCS, while the only losers so far were Ultratech Cement and Maruti Suzuki India. Sensex hits fresh high as bull run continues, nears 45,900

New Delhi, Feb 14 () The <keyword id="53581" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword> (NSE) has declared three stock brokers -- <keyword id="8544578" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vrise-Securities">Vrise Securities</keyword>, <keyword id="8777701" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kaynet-finance">Kaynet Finance</keyword> and BMA Wealth Creators -- as defaulters for non-compliance with the regulatory provisions of the bourse. In addition, they have been expelled from the membership of the exchange, the NSE said in three separate circulars. The move effective from February 13 has been taken as these brokers failed to comply with the NSE guidelines, they added. Under the guidelines, stock brokers are required to fulfill their obligations and should not involve in any misconduct, or unprofessional conduct among others. In January, the markets regulator Sebi had prohibited Vrise Securities from registering any new client for six months for violating broker norms and in the same month, Sebi imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the broker for not complying with Securities Contract Regulation Act (SCRA). Separately, Sebi last month confirmed its interim order that restrained BMA Wealth Creators (now known as BRH Wealth Kreators) from the securities market for its failure to segregate securities of clients, failure to unpledge and return the securities to the clients upon fulfilment of pay-in obligation and making unauthorised transfer of shares from the client's demat accounts. The Securities and <keyword id="191497" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Exchange-Board-of-India">Exchange Board of India</keyword> (Sebi) on Thursday said it has developed an online system to timely detect misuse of clients' securities by stock brokers and alert exchanges in case of diversion of investors funds. The <keyword id="7642806" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Key-Indian-equity-indices">key Indian equity indices</keyword> surged on Tuesday morning with the <keyword id="53232" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-sensex">BSE Sensex</keyword> gaining 400 points to trade well above the 40,000 mark. The <keyword id="2931774" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty50">Nifty50</keyword> on <keyword id="163439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-National-Stock-Exchange">the National Stock Exchange</keyword> (NSE) also rose over 100 points to trade near the 11,800 mark. Banking, finance and auto stocks led the sector-wide gains in the Indian market. A positive trend in the Asian markets also supported the domestic indices. Around 10.35 a.m., Sensex was at 40,158.59, higher by 401.01 points or 1.01 per cent from its previous close of 39,757.58. It opened at 39,990.75 and has so far touched an intra-day high of 40,217.27 and a low of 39,952.79 points. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange was trading at 11,788.25, higher by 119.10 points or 1.02 per cent from the previous close. Sensex jumps 450 points, Nifty above 11,800, bank stocks shine

Heavy selling in banking and IT stocks weighed on the <keyword id="8739489" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Domestic-indices">domestic indices</keyword>. Fading hopes of further stimulus in the US subdued the investor sentiments globally. Further resurgence of the novel <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> cases globally also impacted the stock markets. Sensex closed at 39,728.41, lower by 1,066.33 points or 2.61 per cent from its previous close of 40,794.74. RIL scales record high, leads the market rally as Sensex soars 300 points

<keyword id="163439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-National-Stock-Exchange">The National Stock Exchange</keyword> (NSE) has expelled tainted member, <keyword id="149349" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karvy-Stock-Broking-Ltd">Karvy Stock Broking Ltd</keyword> from its membership and also declared it a defaulter. In a circular, NSE says, "...the member has been expelled from the membership of the Exchange under Rules 1 and 2 of the NSEIL Rules and has been declared as defaulter under provision 1(a) of chapter XII of Exchange bye laws from 23 November 2020 after close of marker hours. A major scam had erupted in November last year after it surfaced that Karvy had transferred securities worth Rs 2,300 crore of more than 95,000 clients, into its account by misusing the power of attorney (PoA) of the clients. Subsequently, there was change in regulations to fix this loophole where such securities could be misused by the brokers. SEBI had barred Karvy from taking new clients in respect of its stock broking activities and also prevented it from using the PoA given by clients. An investigation found that Karvy had pledged shares belonging to clients and utilised them to raise funds. Some of these funds were transferred to group companies such as <keyword id="10324474" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="karvy-realty-ltd-">Karvy Realty Ltd.</keyword> Earlier, NSE said it has settled claims worth Rs 2,300 crore of 2.35 <keyword id="10324475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lakh-investors">lakh investors</keyword> of Karvy Stock Broking. In a statement, NSE said: "While disciplinary proceedings are underway, funds and securities of approximately Rs 2,300 crore belonging to about 2,35,000 investors have been settled so far, with efforts focused on settlement of small investors. Investors with fund balances up to Rs 30,000 due from Karvy Stock Broking have been settled."
