<ul><li>India will now have three <keyword id="8411238" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="central-sanskrit-universities">central Sanskrit universities</keyword> — <keyword id="2802845" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Sanskrit-Sansthan">Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan</keyword>, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya <keyword id="6390141" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanskrit">Sanskrit</keyword> Vidyapeeth, Delhi, and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Tirupati. </li><li>This is after the Parliament gave a nod to the Central <keyword id="7792758" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanskrit-universities">Sanskrit Universities</keyword> Bill, 2020, which sought to convert the three deemed-to-be universities into central universities. </li><li>The move will promote Sanskrit at a global level and offer integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, and science, thereby preserving Sanskrit and other allied subjects. </li></ul>The Indian government has given central university status to three Sanskrit universities, allowing them to gain international recognition.. Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Delhi, and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Tirupati received recognition from the government. “Sanskrit language is not only a language but an identity of the great cultural diversity of this country and hence it is known as an unique language. Due to these factors, it has become imperative to promote the study and research in Sanskrit language. Hence, the government proposed to convert these three deemed-to-be universities into Central Sanskrit Universities,” <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1606638">said</a> the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank.’ Nishank elaborated that Sanskrit is a unique language in terms of grammar, meaning, pronunciation and accuracy, adding that Devanagari script is also derived from Sanskrit. The Parliament gave a nod to the Central Sanskrit Universities Bill, 2020. The bill had sought the conversion of the three deemed-to-be universities into central universities. The aim is to promote Sanskrit at a global level and offer integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, and science along with it. “These three universities will have more opportunities to spread the knowledge of Sanskrit language not only in India but also across the world in a better way. The world is looking towards Sanskrit language therefore it is being taught not only in Indian colleges and universities but also in top universities across the globe,” he added. As of now, India nearly has <a href="https://theprint.in/india/education/how-modi-govt-plans-to-get-international-recognition-for-indias-sanskrit-universities/379101/">18 Sanskrit universities</a> with over 100 colleges teaching the language. However, none of them had National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation. The development will<a href="https://prsindia.org/billtrack/central-sanskrit-universities-bill-2019"> allow the universities to create their own courses of study</a> and training programmes, grant degree certificates, distance education and an autonomous status. “The Central University status awarded to these three universities will enhance the status of these universities and will give a boost to postgraduate, doctoral, post-doctoral education and research practices in the field of Sanskrit and Shastraic education. This will pave the way for many people from abroad to learn Sanskrit and Shastraic lore from these prestigious central Sanskrit universities in our country,” the ministry said. India’s 3 central Sanskrit universities hope to spread Shastraic education globally

The indie-music scene is India booming and the direct result of that are the music festivals that have been cropping up, not just in the metros but tier-2 and tier-3 cities too. The music is varied; from integrating regional languages to mainstream pop music, to experiments with Indian folk music with western languages and genres, the audience has a lot of options, for every musical palate.

 One such <keyword id="1244359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indie">indie</keyword> singer-songwriter from Mumbai raised two lakhs in under six hours of his <keyword id="990338" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="crowdfunding">crowdfunding</keyword> campaign, a feat that could’ve only been dreamt of in a country like ours where while the <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> industry thrives, the independent <keyword id="6367711" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Musicians">musicians</keyword> still struggle to get the limelight. 
 <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword> caught up with <keyword id="1355290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tejas-Menon">Tejas Menon</keyword>, the man of the ‘music’ hour to chat about how crowdfunding an album makes sense for the musicians who want to ‘Make it happen’. 
 <keyword id="17256" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Menon">Menon</keyword> defines his music as ‘A range of influences including 80’s pop-rock, musical theater and adult-contemporary songwriters, developed into his unique style of lyric-heavy pop-rock.’ 
 The singer has played in popular music festivals like <keyword id="15277" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bacardi">Bacardi</keyword> NH7 Weekender, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, and Mahindra Blues Festival and he is comfortable both with playing in a band and just by himself and his acoustic guitar.

''For someone who released his first EP(Extended Play) ‘Small Victories’ in late 2014, I’m finally ready to do a full-length album called ‘Make it happen’ which will feature 10 songs. In the past two years, I did try to get a label on board for this but I felt that after performing all over the country, I’ll let the people who like my music help me out to do this by myself’’ he says, in an optimistic fervor. 
 
Taking the independent part to the next level literally, Menon believes that is easier than it has ever been to make a good album these days, however, good studios and album production still cost a great deal, wherein comes the crowd funding. 
 
 
 
The Campaign 
 Menon had started a campaign on the crowdfunding platform <keyword id="1927134" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wishberry">Wishberry</keyword>, which had an initial goal of Rs. 2 lakhs to be completed in 30 days, to fulfill costs like Studio Cost (Rs. 90000), Admin fees(Rs. 20000), Mixing (Rs. 50000), Mastering (Rs. 30000) and <keyword id="2426054" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="misc">Misc</keyword>. (Rs. 10000). As he’s hit the goal in under a day, the bigger goal has been set to Rs. 4 lakhs. 
 If he hits the new goal, <keyword id="6373601" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Dadlani">Vishal Dadlani</keyword>, the frontman of one of the first indie bands, Pentagram will feature on his album for a song called ‘Kindness’. 
 
For the fans, by the fans 
 
The incentive for the fans here is multifold, as Menon has decided to use the funds to give out rewards in forms of a copy of an album, an artsy signed poster, a songbook with all the lyrics, a deluxe edition of the album due to release later in the year, free passes to his gigs and much more. 
 
The rewards increase with the contribution as the campaign allows you to fund the project either in categories, or you can also be the rogue one and contribute any amount without any expectation of a reward. 
 
Menon has already started working on the album and expects it to release by May, this year by when all the contributors can expect to start reaping the rewards that they’ve sown. 
 
Crowdfunding for the win 
 Menon isn’t the first artist to have crowdfunded his album, with artists like <keyword id="1144733" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parvaaz">Parvaaz</keyword> with their album ‘<keyword id="226613" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baran">Baran</keyword>’ already doing it in 2014 and <keyword id="33360" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vasudha-Sharma">Vasudha Sharma</keyword>, another indie musician, did it for her album ‘Attuned spirits’ in 2013. 
 
''Crowdfunding is great as it reinstates the fact that they’re people who’re willing to back you up not just with compliments but with real investment, how big or small that might be,’’ says Menon about why he thinks it’s a great idea not just for social causes or businesses but also for creative geniuses to the likes of him.

 The 27-year old says that he’d like to collaborate with more artists and diversify his album further with Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk, R'nB, <keyword id="856224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electronica">Electronica</keyword> and Soul elements that he has used to create ''a seamless musical experience that has pushed well past his creative limits.’’

Exclusive: This Indie-musician raised more than Two Lakhs in Six Hours through crowdfunding for his upcoming album

<keyword id="3157934" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Assessment-Accreditation-Council">National Assessment &amp; Accreditation Council</keyword> (<keyword id="6361410" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NAAC">NAAC</keyword>), the autonomous body established by <keyword id="56459" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="University-Grants-Commission">University Grants Commission</keyword> (<keyword id="44171" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UGC">UGC</keyword>) has given a near-green signal to all 38 deemed universities which were blacklisted in 2009 because they had failed to meet a range of quality parameters required. 
 
In a report submitted last month to the Supreme Court, 17 out of these 38 deemed universities were placed in Category A, while one - Nehru Gram Bharti University in Allahabad – was placed in Category C. 
 
This has come almost a year after the UGC report in which it gave a clean chit to all except seven of these deemed universities, which were blacklisted six years ago. Even these seven universities were placed in categories A or B by NAAC. 
 
The universities which were awarded category A rating are Bharath University (Chennai), Maharishi Markandeshwar University (Ambala), and Manav Rachna International University (Faridabad). Meanwhile, Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology (PRIST) University (Thanjavur); Vinayaka Missions University (Salem), Academy of Maritime Education and Training (Chennai), and Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (Sardarshahar), got a Category B rating. 
 
A, B and C categories refer to institutions that are considered very good, good and satisfactory, respectively, and are accredited, however, grade D is an 'unsatisfactory' rating and these universities are not accredited. 
 
This latest review means that the deemed universities which were been declared severely quality deficient in 2009 by a committee headed by PN Tandon can be considered to be reprieved. 
 
"With the Supreme Court accepting NAAC's new gradation, the human resource development ministry should instruct UGC to take all policy decisions based on NAAC accreditation and not the Tandon classification," Dr S Vaidhyasubramaniam, dean of SASTRA University in Thanjavur, told ET.

You have a teacher hunched over a board with chalk, scribbling and lecturing away to a group of students. The pupils are neatly gathered around in front of the teacher; the attentive ones typically seated at the front while the delinquents loiter around the back. Then came the COVID-19 lockdowns, forcing institutes to render their educational services online. While the title of a ‘backbencher’ might have briefly disappeared due to the recent pandemic, the concept of <keyword id="21072209" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="distance-learning" source="keywords">distance learning</keyword> has only found more credence in recent times. The popularity of this new mode of education has exploded due to many reasons, such as its flexibility of class timings, accessibility for students living in remote regions, nationwide improvements in internet infrastructure, reduced social anxiety in students and more. But this also begs the question: are distance learning colleges like the Indira Gandhi National Open University worth it? <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="How valid are distance learning degrees?" comment="subhead" text="How valid are distance learning degrees?">How valid are distance learning degrees?</cmsannotation> Very much. This means that these degrees can be used to pursue <keyword id="6355127" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="employment" source="Orion">employment</keyword> or further education as well. However, it is also important to note that certain programmes that require hands-on training may not be available through open and distance learning. Sandhu said this during the varsity's annual convocation that was held on Friday at the campus premises. "Our government is working closely with their counterparts in Canada to resolve the issue which we are hopeful will happen soon," he said while talking to the media. Left in the lurch, 700-odd Indian students, mostly from Punjab, are facing <keyword id="106041" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="deportation" source="Orion">deportation</keyword> from Canada after the authorities in the country found their admission offer letters to be fake. Satnam Singh Sandhu said, "The university will provide every possible help to these students if they are deported. We will give them admission and enroll them in the same batches. Their credit score mapping will be carried out properly so that the credits earned by them in their previous institutions are not wasted. Bridge courses will also be offered to them if any gap is found during the credit score mapping. The university will make sure that they do not face any loss." Sandhu also said that if these students are deported, later the university will also assist them in pursuing their study abroad dreams in legitimate ways. "We understand the situation they are facing right now in the foreign country. We can feel their pain and stand with their families back in India," said Satnam Singh Sandhu, adding that the university is also exploring starting a helpline number for the affected students and their families. Meanwhile, more than 1400 students were awarded undergraduate and postgraduate, and Ph.D. degrees during the annual convocation held at CU on Friday. The convocation ceremony was attended by former president of India Ram Nath Kovind as chief guest. Chandigarh University is a NAAC A+ Grade University and an autonomous educational institution approved by UGC and is located near Chandigarh in the state of Punjab. Chandigarh University offers support to 700 Indian students facing deportation from Canada

The UGC guidelines also mandated that the final year students will have to sit for exams — online or offline. “Universities may conduct terminal, intermediate semester examinations in offline or online mode, as per their ordinances and regulations, scheme of examinations, observing the guidelines of ‘social distancing’ and keeping in view the support system available with them and ensuring fair opportunity to all students,” UGC added. According to the guidelines, the exams shall be conducted for a duration of two hours now instead of three hours. In addition, the universities will have to follow a six-day week pattern “to compensate the loss for the remaining 2019-20 session”. In March, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) directed all the educational institutions — including the universities, entrance exam centres to shut down in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. An institute is graded on multiple parameters such as prevalence of infrastructure, staff training, student learning and registrar activities, and presented with a grade, or in India a cumulative grade point average out of four. 
 
The evaluation, usually done by governmental and/or non-governmental institutions, plays a key role in student admissions, getting grants and campus placements by companies. The higher the grade or grade-point average, the better for the college and its students.

"What took close to a year can now be done in a week's time," Mohammed Hanif, senior professor, placement cell coordinator and former coordinator of the Internal Quality Assessment Cell Coordinator (IQAC), in charge of preparing and submitting the report to NAAC, at St Xaviers College, Kolkata has told the financial agency. 
 
The Self Study Report (SSR) is the main document which involves faculty staff and students to fill in details about their progress and academic excellence, prepared automatically, as and when the details are filled, a process that was done manually so far," said Hanif, who has helped several tier two and three colleges go about their accreditation process with the company's software.
