In a bid to train people beforehand, Infosys has tied up with online learning firm <keyword id="1539393" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Udacity">Udacity</keyword>, which will offer training courses for students who want to join the company. 
 
Infosys wants new people to know and learn about certain skill sets before the joining the firm. 
 
The ‘Infosys-Udacity FastTrack Programme’ is offering a nanodegree certification programme online. After completing the programme, you can train in Mysore and get accelerated deployment to the technology of your own choice. 
 
It is worth mentioning that the courses would typically take 5 months to complete and cost Rs 35,000, which will be reimbursed too. 
"Great to see the launch of Udacity for Infosys. Sebastian Thrun let's do something awesome in lifelong learning," Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka tweeted. 
 
The Udacity programme courses will include front-end web development, iOS development, data analyst, machine learning engineer and others. 
 
These skills are in high-demand in the IT sector and in very short supply. 
 
Apart from Udacity, Infosys has tied up with Coursera and EdX.

Infosys wants to hire skilled workforce and here’s what it is doing towards it

In what could be a first from a tech giant, <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> is geared to build the world's tallest <keyword id="3228912" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="freestanding-clock-tower">freestanding clock tower</keyword>. The tower would be built at its 345-acre global education centre located in Mysuru, a site that is proudly claimed to be the world's biggest corporate university. The height of the tower would be 135 metres, making it taller than <keyword id="64491" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Big-Ben">Big Ben</keyword> (96 m) in London, Hoover Tower (87 m) in California and McGraw Tower (53 m) in Cornell.

	The tower woukd be built in Gothic style so that it matches the classical look of the other buildings located in the campus. It will have 19 floors, a boardroom at the seventh level and will be erected from a 22x22 metre base.

	As per the company estimates, it would cost about Rs 60 crore and 20 months.

	Confirming the plans to ET, Murthy said the Mysuru training centre was "incomplete without a clock tower".

	"A clock tower brings a sense of academic breathing to the campus, and I felt we too will need one. And Vishal (Sikka) felt it is a good idea," he said.

	The design of the tower has been designed by Hafeez Contractor, who is a Mumbai-based architect responsible for the design of Infosys' Mysuru campus. The structural consultancy services are being provided by LERA, which is a New York-based firm of structural engineers, and the structure would be built by Bengaluru-based KEF Infra.

	"We are trying to marry tradition with modern technology at this tower. The tower will have a large digital screen on all the four sides. We will also use it to run text messages on important occasions," K P Nagaraj, Infosys' resident architect, told ET.

Our fast track program training takes place in Mysore. If in the first six months they come in the top 5% or 10%, we accelerate their growth within two years and they can really move on to the next level. So, if people learn fast and perform, then I think the opportunities are phenomenal,” Shankar explained. The tech major shortlists these employees with internal coding tests and hackathons. “Even people who have already joined us, and can pass the test and hackathon, we tend to put them as power programmers,” Shankar added. The programme was initially started for the employees within the company, and later expanded to students across India. The number of <a href="https://infytq.infosys.com/">registrations went up to 300,000</a>, soon after it was introduced. Of the total students who completed the programme, 1,800 were hired — including 400 in specialist roles, which are normally open to students from elite colleges like IIT. Infosys sent emails to these graduates on Monday, confirming that they would start their employment on October 7, 2024. <h2>Infosys sends joining date confirmation to freshers</h2>Thousands of students from the April 2022 batch were left in limbo after participating in two rounds of pre-training in July and August. These students received an offer letter from Infosys two years back, but never got a confirmation about their joining date. Now, as per a report in ET, Infosys has finally given them a date of joining. The report reveals that students got an email from the company's recruiters that says, “Your scheduled date of joining the employment of the Company will be October 07,2024. These young engineers, who have been waiting for nearly two years, now have a confirmed joining date of October 7, 2024. developments in the cities also picked up pace. The total retail stock in these 14 cities stood at 29 million square feet, as of September 2023. Amongst them, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Chandigarh each boast retail stock ranging between 3-7 million square feet. In the three months between July and September 2023, around 2.4 million square feet was added in the 14 cities. Most of it was added in Chandigarh, Jaipur and Lucknow. Also, a similar amount – again 2.4 million square feet – was absorbed across these cities, led by Kochi, Jaipur, and Goa. “The e-commerce boom, tech-savvy consumer base, growing aspirations and surge in discretionary purchasing are defining the retail growth in tier-II cities. Most non-metro cities are established trade and business hubs and are now witnessing multinational corporations and start-ups setting up offices as well,” said Anshuman Magazine, chairman &amp; CEO, India, Southeast Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa of CBRE. The retail developments have a healthy mix of malls and high streets. But, they too are evolving from vanilla stores in high-streets to malls by top-end developers. Big brands, chain stores boost retail developments in tier-2 cities

Given that, several IT majors like Infosys, SAP Labs, TCS and Wipro are stepping up their efforts to resume operations, sending a few employees to work from office locations. On May 7, Infosys re-opened its offices in Mangalore, Bengaluru, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, and Hyderabad with nearly 5% of the total workforce. That accounts for nearly 12,000 employees in India. With necessary precautions in place, the company plans to raise it to 40% in the coming weeks. “As lockdowns begin to ease across India, our CEO Salil Parekh, along with a few Infoscions, get back to our campuses that are equipped and prepared for the ‘new normal’,” Infosys said in a tweet. While TCS, which has 95% of the employees working from home globally, has less than 1% of its employees currently working out of offices. The company says it is in no hurry to work from offices. “We are resuming operations in a phased manner in select offices with minimal capacity after careful consideration and taking into account civic authority and state government orders. We have rolled out guidelines in our campuses which includes awareness sessions for employees and vendors, self-declaration forms, alteration of workspace layout and virtual collaboration tools for meetings. Other measures include temperature screening at all entry gates, use of hand sanitizers, periodic deep cleaning and disinfecting of office premises as also sanitising all Vehicles entering TCS premises,” TCS said in a statement. Capgemini, on the other hand, is planning to go operational with 10% staff. “We plan less than 10-15% of our employees to be in office currently depending on the criticality of the projects they are working on. We are working on a plan so that employees can come back to office in a phased manner. We will increase this number gradually depending on the guidelines to 25-30% over the next couple of weeks,” Pallavi Tyagi, CHRO at Capgemini India told Business Insider. At first, the company plans to send those employees to work from offices that are currently on ‘extremely critical projects’ or those who are unable to work from home due to client security guidelines. “We will slowly increase this number basis the guidelines and if there is a need for employees to be at the office. Else we will continue to permit work from home keeping in mind our employee’s health and safety. We have nearly 95% of our billable employees working from home and delivering to our clients,” Tyagi added. Meanwhile, companies like HCL Technologies and SAP Labs are introducing necessary precautionary measures to help their employees. More employees at Capgemini, Infosys, and Wipro are being brought back to offices while TCS is still in wait and watch mode

This year, the institute placed 80% of its engineering batch and its salary is comparable to the elite IITs and NITs at ₹52 lakh per annum — offered by Atlassian. International students flock The institute, which was also featured in the Eminence scheme of the Human Resource &amp; Development ministry (MHRD) improved on average score and performance parameters such as industry income and international outlook, as per the Times Higher Education. It has comparatively higher intake of international students at 12% — against merely 2% at the iconic engineering and research institutions like IITs and IISc. The performance growth may be attributed to its international partnership for bilateral governmental research programmes. It has research collaborations with over 20 US universities across areas like cyber security. The university also has associations with European and Japanese institutions. “The Emerging Economies University Rankings 2020 suggests that real progress is being made by a number of institutions in a number of metrics across our robust methodology, and could mark an exciting turning point for Indian higher education, enabled in part by the Institutes of Eminence scheme,” said Phil Baty, chief knowledge officer, THE. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has over 14,000 engineering and research students overseen by more than 1,700 faculty staff. That means, merely over 11 students per staff member. While we are hurtling towards urbanization, heaps of waste are growing even faster, causing a serious concern for the society. Poorly managed waste has an enormous impact on health, <keyword id="6356826" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="environment">environment</keyword>, and the <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword> at large. It is a large source of methane, significantly increasing greenhouse gas emissions in the environment. Also, it can lead to contamination of water and air, resulting into detrimental impacts on human health. According to the <keyword id="6354424" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="World-Bank">World Bank</keyword>, world cities generate about 1.3 billion tonnes of solid waste annually and this is expected to increase to 2.2 billion tonnes by 2025. Food waste, specifically, has profound social and environmental implications, considering that about 795 million people in the world do not have enough to eat. In addition, rotten food generates methane which adds up to the GHG emissions in the environment. Of the one-third food produced globally for consumption every year, about 1.3 billion tonnes gets lost or wasted. As large corporates generate huge amounts of food waste, it is essential for them to ensure responsible <keyword id="3301591" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="food-waste-management">food waste management</keyword>. It is critical to manage food waste with scientific methods to minimize waste going to landfills and mitigate the related impacts on the environment and society. Some concerns exist at different levels to manage food waste effectively, including collection, storage, and treatment processes. As bins are critical for collecting segregated food waste, it’s essential to map the bin size according to the generation patterns, the location of the bin to encourage usage, and clearance of the bin on a scheduled basis. Additionally, storage of food waste is also critical for effective food waste management. As food waste is high on organic hydrocarbons &amp; moisture content, it forms best environment for microbial growth. Hence, a dedicated area where temperature below 5°C should be maintained to make best use of these properties and also eliminate the foul odor issue. The third major concern is the treatment. While there are enough options available, mapping the end use, space availability and labor requirement are essential for opting for the best treatment system. (Source: UNEP, World Food Organization) While there is enough awareness with respect to food security and its potential landfill gas generation, only very few companies have invested in treating their food waste on-site. However, there has been a wave to derive internal policies that mandates the change in consumption and food wastage. A prominent step has been to serve measured portion of food to employees by relating it to health benefits, influencing conscious consumption and reducing wastage. Segregation and composting are also holding an important position in many companies’ food waste management agendas. <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> is persistent in its efforts to ensure the reuse, recycling, and responsible disposal of waste to minimize the amount of waste going to landfills. At Infosys, there have been conscious measures that have shaped the handling and treatment of food waste. In 2012, at corporate level, Infosys adopted 100% segregation and on- site food waste treatment policy. Today, Infosys has standardized the color, size and visual communication materials for food waste collection at food courts resulting in 100% segregation. 
	 
	 
	The restriction of food serving limited to food courts has reduced the mixed waste fraction and super- efficient collection of food waste. Every campus has a dedicated food waste storage room wherein appropriate cooling temperature is maintained at 5degreeC. We have piloted and installed various technology for food waste treatment. We have installed technologies such as biogas plants and organic waste converters to treat our food waste on-site. Biogas plants installed at our Mysore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Pune and Trivandrum campuses 
	convert our food waste into biogas, which is in turn used in the food court kitchens. 
	 
	 
	 
	 
	 
	We also have organic waste converters at our campuses in Trivandrum, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Bangalore, to convert food waste into rich manure that is further used in our campuses for landscaping. We have also employed vermicomposting in Mangalore and Pune to recycle small quantities of food waste into compost. 
	 
	 
	 
	Our total installed biogas capacity is 9.25 Tonnes per day (TPD) having a potential of generating about 500 Kgs of LPG equivalent daily, for further use. Another 3.5 TPD of composting plants generating 1 TPD of manure every day is in place. These initiatives are enabling us to treat 100% of our food waste in-house. 
	 
	In addition to this, employee engagement and awareness programs are conducted across campuses through eco clubs to sensitize employees on segregation and responsible disposal and treatment of waste. All common areas and pantries have visually appealing posters on food waste management to educate employees. Infosys is leading from the front in this area ad has set new benchmarks in the industry by piloting new technologies and ideas to ensure reduce, recycle and reuse of waste effectively. Infosys’ efforts in waste management are helping divert considerable amount of waste from landfills, leading to reduced cost of transportation, carbon emission mitigation, and also minimized environmental impacts like land degradation, air pollution, and groundwater contamination.

The latter, directed by <keyword id="1660883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shammi-Chhabra">Shammi Chhabra</keyword>, has been released after too many delays and depicts how <keyword id="6369280" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lucky">Lucky</keyword> (Eijaaz) ends up marrying the Plain Jane <keyword id="1734" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Laxmi">Laxmi</keyword> (Kulraj), instead of the glam babe <keyword id="190428" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kammo">Kammo</keyword> (<keyword id="33221" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shraddha-Das">Shraddha Das</keyword>). But for both the movies, the collections are hardly notable, thanks to very little promotion and near-zero hype. While Lucky Kabootar collected a little over Rs 1 crore in the first two days (Sunday and Monday numbers are still <keyword id="6357415" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="missing">missing</keyword>), Dekh Tamasha Dekh garnered around Rs 4.7 crore during the same time span. But we will take a closer look at these two after decoding the tremendous <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> success of 2 States. 
 
 
 With the <keyword id="6364416" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Good-Friday">Good Friday</keyword> fervour adding to its charm, <keyword id="2208706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Abhishek-Varman-directed">Abhishek Varman-directed</keyword> 2 States saw 50-60% occupancy at multiplexes on the first day and also did well in the mass belt. Till date, the best performers are Mumbai and Mysore, with Mumbai amassing over Rs 13 crore nett and Mysore collecting around Rs 3 crore nett. The movie’s opening is the second biggest ever for a non-star-cast film after <keyword id="6621270" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Grand-Masti">Grand Masti</keyword> (2013). <keyword id="127336" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhaag-Milkha-Bhaag">Bhaag Milkha Bhaag</keyword> (2013), <keyword id="549195" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Student-of-the-Year">Student Of The Year</keyword> (2012) and <keyword id="1710502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shuddh-Desi-Romance">Shuddh Desi Romance</keyword> (2013) are the next in order after 2 States. 2 States is also one of the highest grossers of 2014 and has already surpassed the lifetime collections of some noted <keyword id="569603" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood-flicks">Bollywood flicks</keyword> including <keyword id="1520199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hasee-Toh-Phasee">Hasee Toh Phasee</keyword>, <keyword id="853887" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shaadi-Ke-Side-Effects">Shaadi Ke Side Effects</keyword>, <keyword id="6354768" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Highway">Highway</keyword> and <keyword id="1434830" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yaariyan">Yaariyan</keyword>. That is definitely good news for producers <keyword id="27326" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sajid-Nadiadwala">Sajid Nadiadwala</keyword> and <keyword id="3778" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Karan-Johar">Karan Johar</keyword>. 
 Going by its <keyword id="1996031" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-performance">box office performance</keyword>, 2 States seems to have done a commendable job, with <keyword id="6354526" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Alia-Bhatt">Alia Bhatt</keyword> (<keyword id="2204646" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ananya-Swaminathan">Ananya Swaminathan</keyword>) and <keyword id="114453" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arjun-Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</keyword> (<keyword id="2204645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krish-Malhotra">Krish Malhotra</keyword>) showing a rare on-screen chemistry that rocks and sizzles. The young people meet at the <keyword id="6429635" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIM-Ahmedabad">IIM-Ahmedabad</keyword> campus and fall in love, but it is, by no means, a campus romance as harsh social realities await them outside. And the movie, too, stumbles at that point as we are led to <keyword id="122267" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="orthodox">orthodox</keyword> households (Krish is a <keyword id="5105" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Punjabi">Punjabi</keyword> lad and Ananya is a <keyword id="6356629" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="tamil">Tamil</keyword> lass from Chennai as all of you must know by now), instead of modern abodes housing millennial open culture, and two pairs of stereotype Bollywood parents. The rest of the struggles and tribulations faced by the young lovers follow the beaten path until the final-and-inevitable reconciliation that makes everyone happy. 
 
Interestingly, Bhagat’s work has managed to ward off the cliché that lies inherent in cultural clashes and generation gaps. However, the movie has an overdose of everything although it manages to retain some kind of charm that will keep you hooked. As Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV so rightly pointed out, “2 States is a <keyword id="2208734" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cross-culture-love-story">cross-culture love story</keyword> that strives to be sweet, funny and emotionally wrenching all at once.
