<ul><li>An ayurvedic drug called ZingiVir-H has been approved for conducting clinical trials on coronavirus patients in India by the Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI). </li><li>The sample size of the study is 112 patients with 15 Covid-19 positive patients already enrolled. </li><li>Hareendran Nair, the founder of the Pankajaksthuri Herbal Research Foundation in Kerala where the drug was developed, believes the results of trials will be available by the end of May. </li></ul>An ayurvedic drug in India called ZingiVir-H has gotten the rubber stamp to conduct clinical trials on adults who have tested positive for coronavirus in India. Currently, it’s only being tested at the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) with a sample size of 112 patients with 15 people already enrolled — but it is open to recruitment. According to Hareendran Nair, the founder of the Pankajaksthuri Herbal Research Foundation in Kerala where the drug was developed, other medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Delhi have also been approached. This is the first known ayurvedic approach to cure Covid-19. Testing ZingiVir-H as a drug for coronavirus The Clinical Trial Registry of India (<a href="http://ctri.nic.in/Clinicaltrials/showallp.php?mid1=43168&amp;EncHid=&amp;userName=Zingivir">CTRI</a>) has given the nod for a randomised controlled single-blind trial to find out if ZingiVir-H is safe and effective as a way to boost immunity in Covid-19 patients. For coronavirus, a 500 mg tablet will be given to patients every 3 hours between 6:00 am to 9:00 pm for at least 10 days, but no more than 15 days to determine the outcome. The clinical trials will measure a coronavirus patients’ improvement as per a 7-point ordinal scale to determine the odds ratio — the odds for improvement. On the day that a patient enters the trial will be the baseline, followed by recording time points on Day 7 and Day 15. “We are expecting the results by the end of May. I am not sure about the result. Each phial is 10cc in volume. Speaking to Business Insider, Dr Chandrashekhar Doddamani, Managing Director, MPVL has said that the order is higher by 4.5 lakh phials than the last general elections in 2014. The company was established in 1937 by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, who was then the Maharaja of Mysore to boost local employment. Since then, the company has gone from manufacturing seal wax to supply paint for war tanks to the Defence department of India. Now you can self drive a car for one way inter city travel

<ul><li>A government school in <keyword id="6358119" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mysuru">Mysuru</keyword> underwent a makeover to look like a ‘train coach’ in order to attract students. </li><li>The village where the school is located does not even have proper bus connectivity and some students have never seen a train. </li><li>This strategy has also been employed by some the government schools in the villages of <keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword> and Rajasthan.</li></ul> A small <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/karnataka/school-turns-into-train-coach-to-attract-students/article24402639.ece?homepage=true">government school</a> in Haropura village near Mysuru underwent a makeover to look like a ‘train coach’ in order to attract students. The school had just three classrooms and while most students were being rather irregular in attending classes, many others had started dropping out. With a lack of admissions, the school was facing threats of closure. And that was when the teachers decided to take matters into their own hands. While browsing online, they came up with a great idea and shared it with the principal. Headmaster Basavanaik and the teachers, Doreswamy, Tarannum and Netravathi, spent ₹25,000 from their own pockets to get two artists from Mysuru to paint the school. After the sprucing up, the school now looks like a train passing through the village. This tiny village does not even have proper bus connectivity, as the headmaster pointed out, and some of the students had never even seen a train before. Needless to say, the new look made the school the centre of attention. The students now feel like they are studying in a train and therefore, there is full attendance. This successful makeover has drawn attention from the Education Department and local authorities who have developed a new interest in the school. The Gram Panchayat has also offered to build a compound wall and the foundation stone was laid down on Wednesday. The school currently has 55 students studying in classes 1 to 7 and the authorities are hoping to attract more children to the school from the nearby villages too. However this isn’t the first school to turn into a ‘train coach’ to attract students. A government school in <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/videos/city/jaipur/when-a-government-school-in-alwar-was-turned-into-train-to-attract-students/videoshow/63690271.cms">Rajasthan </a>did the same. It even painted DISE codes on every ‘coach’ of the ‘train’. The principal’s office was turned into an engine and the playground into a platform. Government is considering giving a one-year extension to <keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword> chief <keyword id="6379603" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arundhati-Bhattacharya">Arundhati Bhattacharya</keyword> amid the lender's consolidation with its associate banks. 
 
"There is a need for continuity at a time when the process of consolidation is going on," sources told an agency. 
 
In this regard, the government is looking at the proposal of granting extension to the current chairperson whose three-year term comes to an end this month, sources added. 
 The government has also received views of the <keyword id="2748088" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bank-Board-Bureau">Bank Board Bureau</keyword> (BBB) on the extension issue and an order in this regard is expected in the next few days, according to the news agency. 
 Earlier this year, the <keyword id="6355513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="cabinet">Cabinet</keyword> gave its nod for the merger of <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> (SBI) and its associate lenders and <keyword id="6560712" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Mahila-Bank">Bharatiya Mahila Bank</keyword> (<keyword id="423104" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BMB">BMB</keyword>) that would make the state-owned lender a global-sized bank.

SBI had said that all its associate banks and BMB will be merged into it that will add an additional Rs 8 lakh crore to its assets. 
Presently, SBI has close to 16,500 branches, including 191 foreign offices across 36 countries. 
 SBI first merged <keyword id="82725" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-of-Saurashtra">State Bank of Saurashtra</keyword> with itself in 2008. Two years later, State <keyword id="269823" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bank-of-Indore">Bank of Indore</keyword> was merged with it.

It’s been more than hundred years and yet the distribution of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Drought-Series-Nearly-3-1-crore-people-in-Karnataka-are-hit-by-the-drought-and-migration-is-intensifying/articleshow/51979749.cms">Cauvery River’s</a> water is in a mess. Given the present situations, it’s far from getting resolved. It’s not the first time that two states are fighting over a river. The history has seen it all. The war of water between <keyword id="6354759" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bangladesh">Bangladesh</keyword> and <keyword id="6357783" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-Bengal">West Bengal</keyword> over Farakka barrage and now the <keyword id="763269" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Teesta-river">Teesta River</keyword> and the Punjab- <keyword id="41646" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Haryana">Haryana</keyword> conflict over Sutlej-Yamuna link are similar in nature as the <keyword id="6354543" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cauvery">Cauvery</keyword> issue.<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Drought-Series-Nearly-3-1-crore-people-in-Karnataka-are-hit-by-the-drought-and-migration-is-intensifying/articleshow/51979749.cms"> Agriculture</a> of both Karnataka and <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> are dependent on the river that originates at <keyword id="65856" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kodagu">Kodagu</keyword> in Karnataka and flows for 765 km before meeting the <keyword id="55869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bay-of-Bengal">Bay of Bengal</keyword> in Tamil Nadu. The strategic course that the river takes during its flow has made it a villain for many years on the distribution of water issue. 
 
Current scenario If Karnataka decides to distribute water to Tamil Nadu as per their demand, the former wont have much left. According to the data provided by <keyword id="6357283" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Water-Commission">Central Water Commission</keyword> (<keyword id="54702" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CWC">CWC</keyword>), Karnataka’s reservoirs this year were 30% below the normal water level compared to Tamil Nadu’s shortage of 49%. 
 The main reservoirs in the two states’ catchment areas include <keyword id="864488" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Krishna-Raja-Sagara">Krishna Raja Sagara</keyword> dam in <keyword id="6355147" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mandya">Mandya</keyword> district, <keyword id="891106" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kabini">Kabini</keyword> in Mysore, Harangi in Kodagu and <keyword id="279522" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hemavathi">Hemavathi</keyword> in Hassan; Mettur dam in <keyword id="6357470" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Salem">Salem</keyword> and <keyword id="3003304" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhavanisagar-dam">Bhavanisagar Dam</keyword> in Erode. All these reservoirs have reportedly 46% less water than normal and 27% lesser water than last year. In short, the situation is quite grim for both states, as per the CWC report. 
 
A third party needs to intervene 
No matter how much these two states fight, there would be no solid solution ever. There needs to be a third party intervention to resolve this issue. A third party can solve things like nobody else. A good example of third party intervention can be the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan. This was brokered by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Drought-Series-Nearly-3-1-crore-people-in-Karnataka-are-hit-by-the-drought-and-migration-is-intensifying/articleshow/51979749.cms">World Bank</a>, which was signed on September 19, 1960 by Indian Prime Minister <keyword id="6360386" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jawaharlal-Nehru">Jawaharlal Nehru</keyword> and President of Pakistan <keyword id="27721" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ayub-khan">Ayub Khan</keyword>. 
 
Since the ratification of the treaty in 1960, India and Pakistan have not engaged in any water wars. Most disagreements and disputes have been settled via legal procedures, provided for within the framework of the treaty. The treaty is considered to be one of the most successful water-sharing endeavours in the world today even though analysts acknowledge the need to update certain technical specifications and expand the scope of the document to include climate change. As per the provisions in the treaty, India can use only 20% of the total water carried by the Indus River. 
 
Weapon of politics 
As things get murkier the in Karnataka, it’s a hint that the issue wouldn’t get settled as easily as expected. When a crisis becomes a weapon of politics, it is no longer an issue to be solved. Rather it becomes more of a chance for the political parties to milk the situation. In this political game, the crisis has surpassed the actual need of water, the need of the agriculture and become a war of egos between the two states. It’s a motive of victory than a solution that matters to the common people caught in the crossfire. The threat of not sharing a drop of water would gain more brownies for the parties in both the states rather than finding a lighted avenue to the dead end. 
 
It’s a murderous rage 
If media reports are to be believed, Tamil channels and movies have been unofficially banned in Karnataka. This gives proof to the fact that the fight over Cauvery’s water has actually delineated to become a war between two states. Even if the situation can be solved by the two ruling parties of the states through dialogue, there is no indication for the public rage incited by these parties subsiding anytime soon. 
 
Where lies the solution? <keyword id="2262165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjeev-Kumar-Balyan">Sanjeev Kumar Balyan</keyword>, Minister of State for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Drought-Series-Nearly-3-1-crore-people-in-Karnataka-are-hit-by-the-drought-and-migration-is-intensifying/articleshow/51979749.cms">Water Resources</a> has proposed that issue of river water distribution needs to be scrapped from the State list of constitution and added to the Concurrent List so that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Drought-Series-Nearly-3-1-crore-people-in-Karnataka-are-hit-by-the-drought-and-migration-is-intensifying/articleshow/51979749.cms">Centre </a>has its say as well. 
 The <keyword id="155317" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Republican">republican</keyword> set up of India has often been blamed for the centre hijacking power from the states to use it to dictate its own benefit. That is definitely something not so praiseworthy. However in the water distribution issue, the centre needs to have a say.

In a bid to train people beforehand, Infosys has tied up with online learning firm <keyword id="1539393" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Udacity">Udacity</keyword>, which will offer training courses for students who want to join the company. 
 
Infosys wants new people to know and learn about certain skill sets before the joining the firm. 
 
The ‘Infosys-Udacity FastTrack Programme’ is offering a nanodegree certification programme online. After completing the programme, you can train in Mysore and get accelerated deployment to the technology of your own choice. 
 
It is worth mentioning that the courses would typically take 5 months to complete and cost Rs 35,000, which will be reimbursed too. 
"Great to see the launch of Udacity for Infosys. Sebastian Thrun let's do something awesome in lifelong learning," Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka tweeted. 
 
The Udacity programme courses will include front-end web development, iOS development, data analyst, machine learning engineer and others. 
 
These skills are in high-demand in the IT sector and in very short supply. 
 
Apart from Udacity, Infosys has tied up with Coursera and EdX.

India’s largest lender <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/SBI-aims-for-unbanked-rural-India-for-business-correspondent-model/articleshow/53315581.cms">SBI</a>) has approved the merger of its operations with six associate banks, viz. <keyword id="6560713" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-of-Travancore">State Bank of Travancore</keyword>, <keyword id="4376211" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-of-Mysore">State Bank of Mysore</keyword>, <keyword id="4376209" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-Bikaner-and-Jaipur">State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur</keyword>, <keyword id="143585" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-of-Hyderabad">State Bank of Hyderabad</keyword>, <keyword id="4376212" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-of-Patiala">State Bank of Patiala</keyword>, and Mahila Bank. 
 It was in June that the centre had given the go-ahead to merge <keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword> with five of its associate lenders and <keyword id="6560712" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Mahila-Bank">Bharatiya Mahila Bank</keyword>, thus increasing the chances of it breaking into the top 50 list of Bloomberg's largest bank by asset ranking. 
 
Marking the first ever large-scale consolidation in the Indian banking industry, the merger will result in SBI becoming a huge banking entity with an asset book of Rs 37 lakh crore.

As per the terms of the merger, SBI will give 28 of its shares for every 10 shares held of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, while for every 10 shares held of State Bank of Mysore as well as State Bank of Travancore, it will give 22 of its shares. 
 
For for every 100 crore equity shares of Bhartiya Mahila Bank, SBI will be giving 4,42,31,510 shares with face value of Re. 1.
