Weekend wrap: Amazon employee reveals tricks to avoid working from office, markets hit all-time highs

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have been rapidly exiting Indian markets, and this high-speed exodus does not look like it will stop anytime soon. In October 2024, FIIs withdrew Rs 1,14,445.89 crores from Indian markets. Yesterday, FIIs withdrew $770.67 million from the markets, with equity outflows of $440.86 million and debt outflows standing at $327.44 million across various categories. Per NSDL data, hybrid outflows amounted to $2.31 million. While this may sound dissuading at first, a recent SBI report underlined that FIIs still hold a massive $ 18.241 billion in Indian markets. So far, FY25 has seen FII inflows worth $ 8.924 billion. However, the situation may quickly turn alarming as well, given that FII holdings in Indian equities have already come down to a 12-year low. Says Anirudh Garg, Partner and Fund Manager at Invasset PMS, "The current valuation of Indian stocks, trading at around 24 times expected earnings, appears high compared to Chinese stocks, which are at approximately 10 times. Economic concerns, including weak corporate earnings and declining consumer demand, further exacerbate this situation. Additionally, renewed fears of inflation and potential monetary tightening by central banks have led FIIs to withdraw from the Indian market." In the meantime, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) are stepping in big time. During October 2024, DIIs infused Rs 1,07,254.68 crore in Indian markets. In November so far, DIIs have been keeping the fund momentum going, infusing Rs 12,265.74 crore in India, while FIIs have offloaded Rs 16,445.49 crore this month. But despite this strong uptick, SBI's recent report suggests that consumer confidence in India remains below 100, signaling muted positivity and optimism in the economy. While household consumption is gradually recovering, it grew at 4% last year, much below the 7% levels recorded pre-pandemic. <h2>FII share in <keyword id="20868945" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE-listed-companies" source="keywords">NSE-listed companies</keyword> takes a dip, DII stake rise </h2>FIIs share in NSE-listed companies stood at 15.98% in October, with assets under their custody in the equity segment coming to Rs 71.08 lakh crore last month. In September, this stood at Rs 77.96 crore. Experts suggest that this is likely to continue for some time to come. Mutual funds, on the other hand, saw their share in NSE-listed companies hit a record high of 9.58%, as opposed to their 9.32% stake in September 2024. FIIs turned net sellers in the debt segment as well in October, dumping $771 million in Indian markets. This comes after 2 consecutive months of healthy inflows in this segment in August and September 2024, where the figures stood at $2,806 million and $2,295 million, respectively.

A unit of <keyword id="6437412" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qatar-Investment-Authority" source="Orion">Qatar Investment Authority</keyword>, <keyword id="119583" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-Mutual-Fund" source="Orion">SBI Mutual Fund</keyword>, and foreign investment funds <keyword id="6354527" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nomura" source="Orion">Nomura</keyword> and <keyword id="44473" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Citigroup" source="Orion">Citigroup</keyword> were the biggest buyers of shares in <keyword id="19955648" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adani-Group" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Adani Group" meta.hostid="267" meta.entityid="Adani Group">Adani group</keyword>'s <keyword id="22661797" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-transmission-unit" source="Orion">power transmission unit</keyword>'s USD <keyword id="22661798" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="1-billion-QIP" source="Orion">1 billion QIP</keyword>, according to a stock exchange filing by the company. The Rs 8,373.10 crore (USD 1 billion) qualified institutional placement (QIP) of <keyword id="19964750" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Energy-Solutions" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Adani Energy Solutions" meta.hostid="267" meta.entityid="Adani Energy Solutions">Adani Energy Solutions</keyword> Ltd (AESL), which closed last week, saw over 120 investors seek shares in the firm that is into power transmission, distribution and smart metering business. Billionaire <keyword id="22623487" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stanley-Druckenmiller" source="keywords">Stanley Druckenmiller</keyword>'s family office-led investment firms were among the companies that sought shares of AESL in the QIP. AESL in the filing said its board has approved allocation of over 8.57 crore shares to eligible qualified institutional buyers at the issue price of Rs 976 per share, reflecting a discount of Rs 51.11 (4.98 per cent) to the floor price of Rs 1,027. Giving details of allottees who got more than 5 per cent of shares, it said INQ Holdings LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of QIA, cornered 15 per cent of the shares sold. Two Mauritius funds of Citigroup bought 8.88 per cent of the shares sold while four SBI funds - SBI Infrastructure Fund, SBI Large &amp; Midcap Fund, SBI Long term Advantage Fund Series IV and SBI Magnum Children's Benefit Fund - together took home 7.93 per cent of the shares. Nomura Singapore Ltd ODI cornered 7.5 per cent of the shares, the filing showed. INQ had in August last year acquired nearly 2.7 per cent in Adani Green Energy Ltd - the renewable energy firm of the conglomerate run by billionaire Gautam Adani. In 2020, it had acquired a stake in Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd, a subsidiary of AESL. The AESL QIP last week was oversubscribed six times and fetched demand of over Rs 50,000 crore against an issue size of USD 1 billion. <keyword id="22636516" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Duquesne-Family-Office" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Duquesne Family Office" meta.hostid="267" meta.entityid="Duquesne Family Office">Duquesne Family Office</keyword> and two other US-based long-only funds - Driehaus Capital Management and Jennison Associates - bought shares but AESL did not disclose the exact number of shares they bought since these were less than 5 per cent of the issue size, sources said. The QIP issue marked the debut of highly prestigious long-only investors Duquesne Family Office, Driehaus Capital Management and Jennison Associates which are known for their strong performance. These investors are known for investing only in companies with high governance and are known for staying invested for decades. The QIP was the first public equity raise by the conglomerate since a damning Hindenburg report last year wiped away billions in shareholder value. The demand generated made the AESL QIP the largest in the energy space. Duquesne was founded by billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller, who along with George Soros in 1992 broke the Bank of England by shorting the British pound, leading to its crash and earnings over a billion dollars. Adani Group has a history of introducing several long-only investors in the market. In the past years, it has brought large investors including GQG Partners and International Holding Company (IHC) besides QIA. Other major global names that participated in the QIP include Blackrock, Jupiter Asset Management, and Eastspring. Domestic mutual funds that have participated included HDFC Mutual Fund, Axis Mutual Fund, Bandhan Mutual Fund, LIC, WhiteOak, 360One among others. Insurance companies including SBI Insurance, SBI Pension and ASK Asset Management have also participated, according to sources. QIP is an instrument used by listed companies to raise funds from large institutions. The fundraise is the first after Adani group's flagship firm scrapped a Rs 20,000 crore issue in February last year, following the Hindenburg report alleging accounting fraud and stock manipulation. Though the group vehemently and repeatedly denied all allegations, listed companies of the conglomerate at one point saw over USD 150 billion of their market value being wiped out. While the group has largely recovered, a successful QIP is being seen as a powerful vote of investor confidence in the tycoon. Separately, Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship firm of the group, is looking to revive its first-ever public sale of bonds. It plans to raise as much as Rs 600 crore. The company has hired Trust Investment Advisors, AK Capital Services and Nuvama Wealth Management as lead managers for the issuances. The group had tapped the dollar bond market in March this year - the first time since the Hindenburg report - when its solar energy unit Adani Green Energy Ltd and associated firms got bids of about USD 2.9 billion.

The company's latest shareholding pattern for the quarter that ended December shows that mutual funds increased their stake by 0.47 per cent to 1.73 per cent. Two new mutual funds entered the stock, taking the total mutual fund shareholders in Paytm from 19 to 21 in the December quarter. Meanwhile, more retail investors have also jumped on board, with their shareholding increasing by 3 per cent to 9.7 per cent. Over 70,000 new investors were added during the quarter, bringing the total number of retail shareholders to around 12 lakh. These developments are a clear indication that more Indians believe in Paytm's ability to deliver profitability without compromising on growth. The increase in domestic investors' shareholding is a vote of confidence in the company's future prospects. Global investment firm <keyword id="6361649" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goldman-sachs" source="Orion">Goldman Sachs</keyword> expects Paytm to be adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) positive by the March quarter, two quarters ahead of the estimates and the company's guidance of September 2023. Goldman Sachs has reiterated its 'Buy' rating for Paytm and has upwardly revised its share price target to Rs 1,120. The firm has stated that the current share price continues to offer a compelling entry point into India's largest and one of the fastest-growing fintech platforms. The increase in shareholding by domestic investors is also a positive sign for the Indian economy, as it shows that more and more Indians are investing in the country's rapidly growing fintech sector. An increase in retail shareholding can bring a number of benefits for a company. One of the most significant benefits is increased liquidity, which can help to stabilise the stock price and improve overall market sentiment. The number of FPIs holding the Paytm stock has increased from 88 to 128 in the third quarter, representing a net addition of 40 investors. And, they are betting on financial services firms the most, as their stake in the overall mutual fund holdings increased to 31.56% from 30.56% in July. According to data from AMFI and ICICI Direct, mutual funds invested over $1 billion in July, and their biggest purchases included <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword>, <keyword id="268065" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="hdfc-life-insurance" source="Orion">HDFC Life Insurance</keyword>, and United Phosphorus, among others. Zomato’s purchases came after the stock experienced a major correction after the lock-in period ended in July, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/why-is-zomato-share-price-down-today/articleshow/93101975.cms">resulting in a 22% correction</a>. Overall, the Indian mutual fund industry invested ₹8,900 crore into Indian equities in July, down from ₹15,500 crore in June. “After having seen lows in previous months, the sharp rally in July led to many investors shying away from putting incremental money and few exiting as well during recovery,” said a report by ICICI Direct. Some other of the biggest names that mutual funds purchased includes Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Star Health and the government-owned National Aluminium Company, among others. “On a month-on-month basis, the weights of NBFCs, private banks, consumer, retail, automobiles, capital goods, PSU banks, metals, cement, and media increased, while the weights of oil &amp; gas, technology, telecom, healthcare, and utilities moderated,” said a report by Motilal Oswal. Overall, according to the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the total assets under management (AUM) of the Indian mutual fund industry increased to ₹37.8 lakh crore in July 2022 from ₹35.6 lakh crore in June 2022. There has been a sharp growth in MF AUMs which grew at around 90% in the last five years. Mutual funds tank up on financial services and retail stocks

Fineotex Chemical share hits all-time high after Nippon India Mutual Fund buys 6.6 million shares

Currently, SBI has a 63% stake in the fund house and the remaining 37% is held by Paris-based AMUNDI Asset Management. SBI MF is a joint venture between SBI and AMUNDI Asset Management. However, analysts believe the IPO pricing is undervalued compared to other listed peers HDFC AMC and Nippon India AMC. The IPO proceeds will go to promoters since the IPO is an offer for sale by promoters. The fund house is a joint venture between Aditya Birla Capital and Canadian firm Sun Life AMC. Both the promoters will jointly sell a 13.5% stake in the company through the IPO. A report by Nirmal Bang said, “ABSL enjoys a strong parentage, solid brand image, a decent distribution network and consistently high return on equity of over 30%. We thus recommend to “subscribe for the long term.” Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC is the fourth largest mutual fund house in the country with ₹2.75 billion average assets under management after SBI MF, HDFC MF and ICICI Prudential MF as of June quarter. The company manages 135 schemes comprising 35 equity, 93 debt, 2 liquid schemes, 5 exchange traded funds (ETFs), and 6 domestic Funds of Funds as of December 31, 2020.
