Eighteen <keyword id="947669" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="munna-bhais" source="Orion">Munna Bhais</keyword> have been caught and sent to jail in Ghazipur and 15 from Ballia." Five solvers have been nabbed in Agra and four each from Prayagraj and Azamgarh. Three impersonators each have been arrested from Pratapgrah and <keyword id="43253" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gorakhpur" source="Orion">Gorakhpur</keyword>, two each from Jaunpur and Bhadohi. One each has been arrested from Firozabad, Mathura, Kasganj, Basti, Kushinagar, Ayodhya, Bulandshahr, Rampur and Balrampur. "The Board is updating and changing its strategy daily to conduct the exam in a fair manner," he said. The secretary said Friday (February 24) is an important day when English paper of class 12 would be held in the second shift in which over 23.5 lakh candidates will appear. In such a situation, the Board is working on a new strategy. Officers of the education department have been asked to conduct surprise inspections of the centres a day before the exam. Strongrooms will be checked and Board will keep an eye through CCTV camera. "I've decided to leave Fox," he said.This was in 1987, and Alan had been a friend for several years. Much later, he would serve as the chairman of Walt Disney Studios. But back in the eighties, he was running the movie division of 20th Century Fox, and before that he ran the show at Embassy. When Coca-Cola had acquired Embassy during my tenure there, we hoped to retain Alan, but he had left for Fox."I'm going to go with Rob, Martin Shafer, Andrew Scheinman, and Glenn Padnick," he told me (all old Embassy hands). The "Rob" was the director Rob Reiner, who was red hot — he had just helmed "Stand By Me" and "The Princess Bride." "And we're going to form a company called Castle Rock."I kept listening."We're looking around for funding," said Alan. "And we're hoping that Coke might be an interested party.""Sure," I said. "What'd you have in mind?""Well, I've got a couple of conditions," he said, and then described his plan: they wanted to do TV pilots every year, and a guarantee of fifteen films, three a year, for the first five years that they were in business. "So I need, number one, your agreement we can make features," he continued. "And number two, distribution terms for both TV shows and films."<h2>I used my go-to strategy: ask questions and listen. The movies were a bit trickier, but we knew that out of the fifteen films, we'd get at least four Rob Reiner films — maybe five, assuming he did one a year — so we were pretty confident we weren't going to get killed."Look, Alan, we'll put in the $30 million, happily, for 40%. We can do standard theatrical and TV distribution fees, assuming Castle Rock puts up its own production and marketing costs."For a moment we need to dive into the details of distribution fees. Just like with discount rates at Embassy, this is the stuff that ultimately swings billion-dollar decisions. Let's say that Castle Rock makes a movie. We (at Coca-Cola Entertainment) would distribute it for them. Our cut was the distribution fee. The higher the fee, the better for us and the worse for Alan.One bit of nuance: we also had a "favored nations" contract with certain clients, meaning that we were bound, contractually, to give them the lowest possible fee that we offered. So, if we offered Alan something better, we had no choice but to give it to our Favored Nation clients."That's a good offer," Alan told me on the phone. "We have one or two other people to talk to, but let me get back to you."Two weeks went by. He called me back to say that Universal Studios had offered the same standard theatrical distribution fee, but also a 2.5% lower television distribution fee.<h2>That was... kind of crazy</h2>"Gee, Alan, who are you working with?" I asked him."Tom Pollock."Tom was a renowned Hollywood lawyer who later went on to run Universal Pictures, but he didn't run TV. Something didn't add up. I knew there was no way they would authorize a TV fee that low."Look, Alan, I don't know how they're doing that. They have the same issues that we do. Just be careful you're not getting bait and switched.""Okay," said Alan. "But if you can't match it, we're going to have to go with him."For maybe a fraction of a second I thought about getting angry. We had made a good offer, a fair offer, and we were the first ones to do so. I couldn't see how Universal could possibly be serious about their offer. But I kept my cool. "All right. Good luck."Despite the souring of the deal, I hung up the phone on good terms — there's rarely a reason to leave a negotiation on bad terms. The entertainment industry is small, and you'll work with the same people over and over.10 days later Alan called me back."You were right," he said. It turned out that the head of TV at Universal — who had not been consulted — appealed to the CEO, and Tom Pollock was overruled, and their too-good-to-be-true offer was changed, no surprise, to the standard fees we offered. "Since you guys were the first to make that offer… Are you still interested in doing Castle Rock?""You bet."<h2>We had a deal, did the paperwork, and Castle Rock opened for business</h2>Two years prior to this, my staff at Coca-Cola had been a secretary and assistant. By this time, thanks to the acquisitions of Merv Griffin, Embassy, and Castle Rock, it had swelled to include 700 employees and made $275 million in profit.Castle Rock's first film, a comedy called "When Harry Met Sally," was a solid success, but their second film, a remake of "Lord of the Flies," was underwhelming. Maybe we had made the wrong bet?Then came "Misery," "City Slickers," "A Few Good Men," "In the Line of Fire," "The Shawshank Redemption," and a litany of other classics. Suddenly $30 million looked like the steal of the century.The irony was, I had mostly made the deal for their TV business, but their early pilots did not take off as quickly. For example, just one of their eight pilots in 1989 ended up succeeding. A couple of years later, after I had moved from Coke to Viacom (that's another story entirely), I still stayed in touch with Martin Shafer and the other Castle Rock partners, just to see how they were doing, and he told me about that successful pilot from 1989.<h2>One day over tennis, I asked Martin, "Hey Marty, how's your TV business doing?"</h2>"You wouldn't believe it! We sold a show to NBC," he said.Apparently some guy, some comedy writer, was living in his car — actually living in his car — when he sold the show to Castle Rock, and Castle Rock sold it to NBC."What's it about?" New Delhi, Films should serve as a catalyst of change and not a business model, believes filmmaker <keyword id="7936" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vidhu-vinod-chopra" source="Orion">Vidhu Vinod Chopra</keyword> as he returns to the big screen after three years with "<keyword id="15771130" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="12th-fail" source="Orion">12th Fail</keyword>", a story of ambition, dedication and overcoming setbacks. The ace director, known for films such as "Khamosh", "Parinda", "1942: A Love Story" and "<keyword id="3897" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mission-Kashmir" source="Orion">Mission Kashmir</keyword>", said money has never dictated his creative decisions. "My job as an artist or a filmmaker is to make the world slightly better than what it was when I came. So, if I can make a film that can make a slight difference to people's lives, it inspires me. "Money has never driven me. I could have made 'Munnabhai' 3, 4, 5, 6... and be a multi-millionaire, which I'm not. I chose to make '12th Fail', with <keyword id="189215" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vikrant-massey" source="Orion">Vikrant Massey</keyword>," Chopra told PTI in an interview here. Not only his directorial efforts, the 71-year-old said he makes sure even his production ventures, which include acclaimed titles such as "Munna Bhai" franchise, "3 Idiots" and "Parineeta", have something important to convey. "In 'Parinda', I talked about violence. '1942' was about patriotism and 'Mission Kashmir' was about religious divide.... In all my films, it is important that they say something," he added. "12th Fail" is based on Anurag Pathak's best-selling novel about the incredible journey of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. The movie stars Massey in the lead along with Medha Shankar. Though inspired by Sharma's life, Chopra said "12th Fail" is a story of "each one of us" coming to big cities with aspirations and dreams. "I started writing this film when I was 66 and now I'm 71. You can't write a film like this in months. It takes years because every character has a story. It's not a biopic. It's each one of us... There is a lot of me and you in the film." Integral to the movie's storyline is the idea of "restart". As inspirational and motivational it may sound, the concept stemmed from a personal tragedy, said Chopra. "My brother was the closest person to me in the world, apart from my wife and kids. During the pandemic, when I was developing this film, he was in Maldives. He delayed coming to Mumbai and couldn't survive. It hit me very hard. "Within a week or so, I realised it is not fair to the people who are around me. I was already in the story and the whole concept of restart took place in my head. It didn't come from a happy place. It came from a tragedy that struck me," the director recalled. Chopra said somewhere while healing through the personal loss, he realised that life was much like a video game -- "you lose, you press a button and move on". "I told myself why can't we do that in life. We have setbacks, we fall, and then we lose everything. Life is a game too. The thought is inspirational but not easy. It is about the way you look at life," he added. Chopra said through "12th Fail", which released on Friday, he wants to address that nothing is impossible to achieve, but if one faces a setback, the goal should always be to "restart". "When I read about the suicides in Kota and anywhere else. I want to tell those kids.... It's tough, I understand. I lost the man I loved the most in my life. (But) you got to restart. And UPSC is not just one thing, you can explore so much in life." Apart from Massey, who has established himself as a dependable performer with projects such as "A Death in the Gunj", "Haseen Dillruba" and "Criminal Justice", the film features an impressive supporting cast in Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sanjay Bishnoi and Priyanshu Chatterjee. Chopra said ever since he decided to make a film on the subject, he was sure about casting "real people". "I didn't want filmy heroes pretending to be these people. Most of the cast are new actors, first time actors or not very famous. But they are real people. I rehearsed with them for one year," the director said, adding that he is currently writing a film for which he would be needing movie stars. "I will cast a movie star, if it is a movie star role. Like I'm writing a film for which I need big movie stars. I made 'Eklavya' and I wouldn't have made that movie without Mr Bachchan. Every film has its own demand, so to say. '12th Fail' demanded me to be very real." Aniruddha Mookerjee, who spent over two decades in conservation with organisations like the <keyword id="94109" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wildlife-Trust-of-India">Wildlife Trust of India</keyword>, World Animal Protection and the University of Oxford, among others firmly believes, “Kanha is perhaps the best-managed tiger reserve in India and can be counted among those across the world that provide a superlative wildlife experience to the visitor. The forest is also home to leopards, Indian fox, sloth bear, wolves, wild boars, hyenas, jackals, macaques, langurs and Indian wild dogs (dhole). The Indian roller, owlets, scarlet minivet, Indian pitta and black hooded oriole are some of the birds that call the forest home. The River Banjaar runs through Kanha and is the key source of water for flora and fauna here. The Park was originally inhabited by two indigenous tribes — the Gonds and the Baigas — thus, it was called the Gondwanas (“land of the Gonds''). Safaris: Kanha can be accessed via three gates — the Khatia Gate, Mukki, and Sarhi. Of these, Khatia is the most popular and therefore the busiest. There are two primary safari timings — sunrise to 11:00 AM and 02:00 PM to sunset. <ul><li>Several <keyword id="860150" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="YouTubers" source="Orion">YouTubers</keyword> have taken to Twitter to highlight the series of strikes they have faced over the last month.</li><li>People aware of the matter suggest that there were always instances of extortion on <keyword id="10879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="YouTube" source="Orion">YouTube</keyword>, but this time it is more organised.</li><li>YouTube follows a strict copyright infringement policy and suspends the account after three proven strikes.</li></ul>YouTube is trying to reduce the number of copyright violations on its platform, but the folks are trying to use the stricter norms to harass original content creators to the point that it has turned into a tool of extortion. Sachin Saxena was shocked. He was bound to be. In June this year, YouTube sent him a copyright violation notice (known as strikes on the platform) on one of the videos he made from scratch — from scripting to shooting and even editing. It has been four years since Saxena has been creating explainers related to technology and new-age businesses on YouTube. The video platform has really enabled him to create a stable source of income, while doing what he loves. Like anyone else would, he thought it would have been a mere misunderstanding and decided to approach the claimant in order to clear the air. But things took a turn for the worst. No, it was no misunderstanding. It was one of those blackmailing cases he had infamously heard about from his peers. US-based search giant Google’s video streaming platform YouTube has been very particular about copyright violations and has proactively taken steps to remove any such content that infringes on the rights of content creators. However, the approach has come to bite several small-time YouTubers on the back, as it has turned out to be a convenient tool for extortion. The person, Darshan Deewana Official aka Munna Singh or whoever you want them to be, sought $200 in exchange for removing the strike against Saxena. The alleged extortionist also threatened to issue more copyright strikes against the Uttar Pradesh-based <keyword id="2803176" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="YouTuber" source="Orion">YouTuber</keyword> in case he fails to make the said payment. But Saxena had done nothing wrong, apparently. So why should he pay to prove ownership over his own content? He decided to follow all due diligence and filed a counter notification (counter strike) claiming his ownership. But it wasn’t going to be an easy path. The alleged extortionist did exactly as he had said and issued four more strikes against Saxena over the next couple of days. These four strikes were issued over 11 videos, meaning there were a total of 11 copyright infringement cases concentrated in 4 strikes. Once again, Sachin filed a counter strike case against all these violations using Google’s pre-set form, but his request was rejected the first time. <div type="image" title="Graphic 1: The great Indian YouTube extortion — 101 on how criminals are making money off YouTubers" msid="84495019" hostid="261"></div> He decided to give it another shot. He reached out to YouTube directly over email. He shared all the proof of ownership of the content, which he earlier couldn’t as YouTube’s <keyword id="11141113" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="copyright-strike" source="Orion">copyright strike</keyword> or counter notification application mechanism/form do not allow any attachments or links apart from the flagged video itself. This time his request was accepted. Upon investigation, Business Insider found out that Sachin wasn’t the only one suffering from such fake copyright strikes. A simple Twitter search gave us a deeper look into the spread of such copyright strikes. While Saxena may have been able to sail past this successfully, many haven’t been able to do so and their accounts have been suspended. <div type="image" title="graphic 2: The great Indian YouTube extortion — 101 on how criminals are making money off YouTubers" msid="84494586" hostid="261"></div> All these copyright strikes may not be “fake” as claimed in the screenshots above, but it is an awful coincidence that so many small-time YouTubers, who had enough subscribers to be earning through the platform, are receiving such request from different accounts. But it is also true that YouTube does not require any documentation to file a strike, in this case a series of strikes, against anyone. So, anyone, without even a YouTube account, can flag your content as stolen. This is not the first time YouTube’s copyright strike mechanism has been used to extort money out of content creators. This policy has been exploited both in India and abroad. However, this time it is much more organised. Apart from the above-mentioned email ID, there have also been other IDs involved in this giving this ‘series of copyright strikes’. It was certainly not the first time that Darshan Deewana had reached out to young YouTubers either. We also came across two separate instances, where a series of copyright strikes was issued by this person and a ransom was demanded. <div type="image" title="Graphic 3: The great Indian YouTube extortion — 101 on how criminals are making money off YouTubers" msid="84487017" hostid="261"></div> One of the YouTubers has also taken a legal route against this account holder. <div type="image" title="Graphic 4: The great Indian YouTube extortion — 101 on how criminals are making money off YouTubers" msid="84487026" hostid="261"></div> While Saxena managed to get all these copyright strikes removed against him without paying, many have not been able to do so. One of the YouTubers, who paid this Darshan Deewana, said that his name would be removed from a list of YouTubers the extortionist had and no one would bother them again. “I decided to pay them so they don’t bother me again. I don’t want to go through this again,” the YouTuber added. Upon further investigation, Business Insider was able to create a chain of these “fake” copyright claims issued by Darshan Deewana end-to-end. The copyright strike would be issued by a “Munna Singh” registered with an email address of “Darshan Deewana Official”. Darshan would ask the YouTubers to transfer the ransom on a PhonePe account registered with another number. The number was listed as WhatsApp Business, with another email starting with “nirash”. <div type="image" title="Graphic 5: The great Indian YouTube extortion — 101 on how criminals are making money off YouTubers" msid="84494745" hostid="261"></div> Business Insider reached out to Darshan Deewana and Nirash, but hasn’t received a response till publishing time. Why will YouTubers not reach out to YouTube directly? YouTube is not unaware of such instances and has set up a proper procedure in place to counter any copyright infringement claims filed by someone. However, it may be difficult for some to remove such strikes. <div type="Youtube" id="Bv4CvzyAkV0" title="Copyright in YouTube Studio: Addressing Copyright Claims with New Tools, Filters and More" thumbUrl="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Bv4CvzyAkV0/mqdefault.jpg"></div> There are two ways to file these counter-notification. First, file the counter copyright notification directly through a web form. Secondly, email YouTube at &lt;<a href="mailto:copyright@youtube.com">copyright@youtube.com</a>&gt;. Many YouTubers have highlighted that their counter notifications were rejected in the first attempt. Flagging the issues over email has a higher chance of approval. "YouTube's copyright removal process complies with the applicable law. We strive to be fair to our users and protect their freedom of expression while also respecting the legal rights of copyright owners. Based on a copyright claim raised by a copyright owner or an agent authorised to act on their behalf, users have the option to file a <a href="https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2807684?hl=en">counter-notification</a> when they believe their content has been removed as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the content, including fair use. The process further requires the claimant to provide evidence that they have initiated a court action within a specified timeline. In the event of any misuse of our process, we take it seriously and overturn removal decisions where we find evidence that a removal request was submitted without considering exceptions to copyright law such as fair use, fair dealing or other exceptions," the YouTube’s spokesperson told Business Insider over an email. <div type="image" title="The great Indian YouTube extortion — 101 on how criminals are making money off YouTubers" msid="84494853" hostid="261"></div> Another key thing to note here is that YouTube, in its policies, mentions that they don’t mediate copyright claims. It is left to the parties involved to decide. It is not up to YouTube who “owns the rights” to content. Despite the availability of an elaborate mechanism, few YouTubers do not want to risk getting their accounts suspended. If by any chance YouTube finds the claimant’s claims to be accurate — true or not —, these YouTubers will have to either settle in court or out of it. That is going to cost them more money and time. But why is this issue important? With the growth of the digital economy, India has become one of the most prominent markets not only in terms of customer base, but also in terms of creators. Only 16 Indian content creators had more than 1 million subscribers in 2014, but the community has touched over 1,200 such creators in 2019. According to a digital marketing blog Digital Uncovered <a href="https://digitaluncovered.com/rise-indian-content-creators/">report</a>, about 2,500 Indian creators on YouTube cross 1,000 subscriber milestones every day. Overall, YouTube has at least <a href="https://www.omnicoreagency.com/youtube-statistics/">225 million</a> active users in India — that's more than 7 times the entire population of Canada. The rise of such extortion cases can not only have a major impact on the livelihood of YouTubers, but also on YouTube itself. The instances highlighted in this report are largely from Tier 2 regions of India, but are not limited there. Several reports in the past have highlighted such incidents in the US as well, but the cases continue to exist despite this. For people like Saxena, it is a question of livelihood. His son Munna, the legitimate heir, wants to rule the region like his father but he’s not worthy. The story revolves around the aftermath of Tripathi’s meeting with two local boys — Guddu and Bablu — at an unfortunate incident at a wedding and how their involvement in his business turns the tables. In the last episode of Mirzapur, both Guddu and Bablu are shot in the cross-firing at a wedding. In a sneak preview of Mirzapur 2, Guddu played by Ali Fazal can be seen using crutches while Golu (Shweta Tripathi) can be seen pointing a gun at someone. Pilgrims pour in from all corners of the country to take a dip in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ganga">Ganges</a> and wash off their sins or to perform the last rites of their loved ones. 
 However, there’s another reason a few thousand devotees throng <keyword id="6357203" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Varanasi">Varanasi</keyword>. It is to enroll themselves in ‘<keyword id="3045732" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mukti-Bhavan">Mukti Bhavan</keyword>’ or Salvation House and attain <keyword id="12853" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Moksha">moksha</keyword>, which will free them from the cycle of life and <keyword id="6355784" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="death">death</keyword>. 
 
In order to attain this salvation, they wait to die in this charity-run hostel. 
 
 
 
The 12-r​oom hostel which exists specially for people who wish to die, also boasts of a temple and an additional quarter for its priests. However, not every guest has all the time in the world. 
 
All they have is two weeks. To die. Or they’re asked to move on to make way for others. 
 
In some situations, a guest’s stay can be extended if the 61-year old hostel manager Bhariavi Nath Shukla thinks that the person is about to die. He also claims to be able to predict when someone will die. 
 
Once checked in, guests are bereft of their names. Their new identity becomes a number. 
 
As of 2014, over 14,000 people had made use of the services of this hostel to breathe their last. 
 
The story of every person in each of the rooms of the hostel is as starkly different from each other, as it is similar. While covering this intriguing story last year, Danish Siddiqui met an assortment of people from diverse backgrounds, all united in their desire to attain moksha at Mukti Bhavan. 
 
The hostel got its guest number 14,578 in the form of Munna Kuvar, a 105 year old widow who had traveled in a jeep for five hours to get to the hostel. Her husband had died at the exact same place, and Kuvar had decided it was her time to replicate that. 
 
 
 
Another room housed 82-year old Kishore Pandey from a small village in Eastern India. He was flanked by three of his daughters who have decided to perform his last rites, defying the old old norm of sons being the ones entrusted with performing a father's last rites.

When I reached out to Piyush Pandey, Chief Creative Officer Worldwide, Ogilvy, for our weekly chat show, BTS with Insiders, we initially wanted to talk about three ads that he had worked on over the course of his career that he held close to his heart. However, considering how the week had panned out, Pandey was mourning the loss of the two actors too, and it only seemed fitting that we speak about some of the gems he had created over the years, not just with Khan but also with a few other actors. Episode 3 of BTS with Insiders saw us talking to Pandey about Irrfan Khan, who was the face of Hutch and acted in around 18 ads for the brand, Pushpa Joshi, who took the nation by storm just by a few seconds of her presence as a kabaadiwaali in Fevikwik’s recent ad, and actors Atmaram Bhende and his wife, Asha Bhende who were a part of SBI Life’s campaign, close to 10 years back. Each of the four actors had something in them that took the stories Pandey wanted to tell, and turned them into unforgettable gems. Irrfan Khan - Hutch When Ogilvy wanted to create a series of ads talking about Hutch’s new recharge packs, and the agency wanted the ad to speak the language of the common man, simply to make it more relatable, and to drive its simple point across, that Hutch will give you the most value for your money. Ever since the passing away of Khan, people across the country, in their numerous tributes to the actor have mentioned about his portrayals being relatable. He made us feel that he was one of us. It was perhaps this quality that made V Mahesh and Rajiv Rao, along with the Hutch team decided to cast Khan in the ads. “Irrfan was not a masses man only through his cinema. He was a fantastic symbol of a common man, and an amazing actor. Rajiv and Mahesh, along with Shashanka Chaturvedi (aka Bob) of Good Morning Films who directed the films thought of Irrfan,” shared Pandey. The brand and agency had initially thought of coming up with 3 films. “We ended up doing 18 eventually,” shared Pandey with a laugh. “Everybody loved him because he was so credible and amazing,” he added. What made the ads memorable was the fact that they were written the way a common man speaks. “And while I was not present at the shoot, I am pretty certain that Irrfan would have added his bits to it. You cannot work with a big actor without using his abilities beyond acting because they come up with the little things that add magic. And magic is exactly what he created. Today, when he is a lot more popular, one could have done a lot more with him but in those days, he was not known to billions of people because that wasn’t exactly his kind of cinema. And yet, he walked in and stole the show, every single time,” said Pandey. He also shared that he kept making plans with Irrfan to meet up in Jaipur, which is where both of them grew up, but it never really materialized. “We made a whole lot of plans to fly kites together in Jaipur but unfortunately the opportunity never came, and he flew away from our midst,” said Pandey. Pushpa Joshi - Fevikwik Pandey has been weaving magic for one of Ogilvy’s oldest clients Pidilite for years now. Who can forget some of the old gems created for brands like Fevicol and Fevikwik. Bharat Puri. Managing Director at <keyword id="260169" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pidilite-Industries">Pidilite Industries</keyword> often says that Ogilvy isn’t really a creative partner for them, rather they almost are the owners of the brand. It is perhaps this confidence in Pandey and his team that made Pidilite agree to casting octogenarian Pushpa Joshi, who played the role of a kabaadiwaali, in Fevikwik’s recent adorable campaign and wooed the entire nation with her endearing charm. It was Pandey’s brother <keyword id="1397913" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prasoon-Pandey">Prasoon Pandey</keyword>, who thought of casting Joshi in the ad. “Pushpaji was cast in the ad with a bit of difficulty, with due apologies to my young clients at Pidilite. They were apprehensive because how you can get somebody so old to act? And my brother Prasoon Pandey who directed the ad said, ‘There’s no retirement age for a kabadiwali’. When she came to the set though, Prasoon himself was a little worried because she arrived in a wheelchair. But soon she just picked up and gave us the performance of a lifetime. The ad took the nation by storm just because of what she did and what the director did with her,” shared Pandey. While Pushpa Ji, as everybody lovingly called her, won everyone’s hearts just by coming on the screen for a few seconds, Pandey rued the fact that they had not discovered her earlier. “I don’t recall seeing Pushpa Ji in any other ad. Maybe we weren’t really good at sourcing her. We didn’t find her earlier enough but when we did, she left us with the impression of a lifetime. For our younger audience, there’s a lesson here. It’s never too late to start. If you have a talent, just go out and play. You never know, you might find that the years were never lost and that you can make up for them in one shot,” added Pandey. Atmaram and Asha Bhende - <keyword id="194127" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-Life-Insurance">SBI Life Insurance</keyword> Atmaram Bhende was a well-known face in Marathi movies and theatre. However, people in the rest of the country discovered this veteran actor in Lage Raho Munna Bhai as one of the many adorable people staying at the old age home that the entire movie revolved around. Atmaram Ji along with his wife, Asha Bhende, had been a part of SBI Life Insurance’s campaign, ‘Heere Ko Kya Pata’ close to 10 years back. This simple, slice of life conversation between an elderly couple was brought to life by these two effortless actors. What also makes this campaign doubly special is the fact that it is based on a conversation Pandey had with his mother. “The story of this ad is inspired by a conversation I had with my mother. She wanted to own a diamond but never asked us for it. She had a lot of self-respect. One day our sisters told us about her secret wish to us but we weren’t very affluent at that point of time. So we went and bought a pair of earrings for her. Prasoon paid for one and I paid for the other. When we gave it to her, she had said, ‘Iss umr me kahan pehenungi main heera? (Where will I wear a diamond at this age?). That stayed with me and when I created the ad, I added the line, ‘Heere ko kya pata tumhari umr, (The diamond doesn’t really know your age), at the time of writing the film. When we were casting, my brother said that nobody can perform this better than Atmaram Ji and Asha Ji,” he reminisced. Before ending the conversation, Pandey also made an appeal to the advertising industry, asking them to give new talent a chance. “Our younger audience and professionals in the industry should never forget that there are some fantastic actors around who have the capability to make your script ten times as good from where you wrote it. And as I pay my tribute to all these four fantastic artists for giving our industry a touch of their magic, I would ask the younger generation to identify such actors, use them well and give them the opportunity. So look for more of such people and make our industry look better by using these stalwarts,” he concluded.
