<keyword id="2959027" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hero-Motors-Group">Hero Motors Group</keyword> said on Monday that it has elevated <keyword id="171496" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pankaj-Munjal">Pankaj Munjal</keyword> as its chairman and managing director (CMD). 

	Pankaj Munjal has taken over from O P Munjal, who led the Ludhiana-based company for over 60 years, PTI reported, citing a statement by Hero Motors Group. 
 

	Further, O P Munjal has now been elevated to the position of Chairman Emeritus, according to the statement. 
 

	Pankaj Munjal joined the group as a trainee in 1988. In December 2011, he was appointed as its co-chairman and managing director. 
 The group comprises cycle major <keyword id="167885" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Cycles">Hero Cycles</keyword>, auto parts manufacturing companies -- Hero Motors Ltd, ZF Hero Chassis Systems and Munjal Kiriu Industries -- hospitality arm <keyword id="2959360" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Munjal-Hospitality">Munjal Hospitality</keyword> and luxury home decor products company <keyword id="2959359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Oma-Livings">Oma Livings</keyword>. 

	Incorporated in 1956, Hero Cycles is the largest cycle manufacturer in the world. The company has a manufacturing capacity of 7.5 million bicycles per year, with its unit in Ludhiana (Punjab), Bihta (Bihar) and Ghaziabad (UP).

<keyword id="6358777" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword>, The cases of rare black fungus infection linked with <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword> have started to appear across the hospitals in the national capital after being higlighted by <keyword id="237993" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ganga-Ram-Hospital">Ganga Ram hospital</keyword> a few days ago. However, doctors said this alarming affliction called Mucormycosis is rare but not new. What is new is the impact of Covid behind triggering this <keyword id="6226166" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="deadly-infection">deadly infection</keyword>. Max Superspeciality hospital in Delhi has reported as many as 24 cases amid the Covid pandemic as against four cases reported last year. Sanjay Sachdeva, Principal Director of ENT, Max hospital, told IANS that all these patients had Covid-19 while 20 of them lost their eyesight. "While we lost one patient, three were recovered without any incision," he added. Sachdeva observed that Covid is also somehow aggrieving the fungal infection. "Its aggressiveness has increased in the Covid times, as within two days of detection, people have started to lose their eyes, nose and other body parts," he said. Sonali Malhotra, Senior resident, ENT, at Centre-run Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), told IANS that in the last one-and-a-half months, at least five cases have been reported in the hospital. Of them, three were Covid-linked. "Two were Covid positive at the time of its (Mucormycosis) detection while another one was reinfected with the Covid-19 infection," she said. Aparna Mahajan, Consultant ENT surgeon, Fortis Escorts Hospital at Faridabad, also informed that the hospital had reported four cases recently. As per doctors, Mucormycosis has been a cause of disease and death in transplants, ICU and Immunodeficient individuals since long, however, it is the rapid increase in numbers seen in unsuspected Covid patients which is matter of grave concern. Bhiya Ram, Assistant professor, ENT department, <keyword id="6365231" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="all-india-institute-of-medical-sciences">All India Institute of Medical Sciences</keyword> (AIIMS) Rishikesh, said Covid patients, who are already immunocompromised with the underlying condition, had faced severe Covid-19 and been on steroids, are at a greater risk of contracting Mucormycosis and fatality associated to it which ranges as high as 80 per cent. Of the ten patients Ganga Ram reported in December, lives of five patients could not be saved. "The frequency with which we are witnessing the occurrence of high morbidity and mortality in Covid-triggered Mucormycosis has never been seen before which is shocking and alarming," Manish Munjal, senior ENT surgeon, Ganga Ram hospital, told IANS. Uma Malliah, Senior Consultant, Ophthalmology, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, informed that three of the seven cases the hospital reported could not be saved. The doctors said early detection of Mucormycosis could save lives as well as control the infection spread. "Symptoms such as nose obstruction, swelling in the eye or cheeks and black dry crusts inside the nose should be reported immediately and anti-fungal therapy must be initiated as early as possible," Ram said. "Patients should immediately rush to their nearest ENT clinics for problems such as pressure in the eyes and numbness in the cheeks. The investigation of nose through endoscope can easily reveal the typical purple or black spots developing in the nose and if spotted, treatment should be started without any delay," Ram added. Malliah said the patients reported in Apollo hospital were largely diabetic. They were specifically severe in diabetes, renal failures and transplant, and have been on steroids for a very long time," she added. Sonali Malhotra said diabetes is the major common link found between the Mucor patients which makes them susceptible to Covid-19. "Since they already have underlying conditions, their chances of getting infected with Covid fare higher," she added. Another distinct property being reported in the Mucor patients is that the majority were elderly people. Malliah informed IANS that the patients reported to her hospital were majorly between 45 and 60 years. Sachdeva told IANS that his patients varied from 47 to 72 years. Covid-19 cases linked 'black fungus infection' appears across Delhi hospitals

Founder of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hero+Cycles+">Hero Cycles</a> Ltd, <keyword id="1839639" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Om-Prakash-Munjal">Om Prakash Munjal</keyword> died in Ludhiana on Thursday, informed his family. 
 
The leading <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=industrialist+">industrialist</a> passed away at the age of 87, reported PTI. 
 
Munjal, who was involved in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=philanthropic+">philanthropic</a> activities such as running schools and hospitals, breathed his last in the <keyword id="2999707" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="DMC-Hero-Heart-Centre-in-Ludhiana">DMC Hero Heart Centre in Ludhiana</keyword>. 
 
He is survived by a son and four daughters. 
 
Munjal's cremation will take place on Friday in the Model Town Extension Cremation ground here. 
 Munjal was born in <keyword id="2999706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Kamalia">Kamalia</keyword>, a city in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Pakistan">Pakistan</a>. His family moved to <keyword id="6359825" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="amritsar">Amritsar</keyword> in 1944 to start a bicycle spare parts business, which flourished. 
 
However, their business was severely affected after the Partition of India. The family later shifted their operations from Amritsar to Ludhiana. In 1956, they moved from component manufacturing to complete bicycle <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=manufacturing+">manufacturing</a> under brand name Hero. The company became the first bicycle manufacturing unit in India to produce over 600 bicycles in the first year.

Hero Cycles founder Om Prakash Munjal dies at 87

New Delhi, Apr 14 () Leading two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Tuesday said it is donating 60 first-responder mobile ambulances to authorities across the country as part of its Covid-19 relief efforts. The mobile ambulances will be useful for reaching out to patients in rural and remote areas and comfortably moving them to the nearest hospitals, the company said in a statement. The ambulances have been custom-built as an accessory to be fitted on Hero MotoCorp motorcycles, with an engine capacity of 150cc and above, it added. The ambulance accessories include sleeping arrangement with essential medical equipment such as a first-aid kit, oxygen cylinder, fire extinguisher and siren, Hero MotoCorp said. These mobile ambulances will be handed over to authorities in multiple regions across the country, it added. The Hero Group has already committed a corpus of Rs 100 crore as aid for the ongoing Covid-19 relief-efforts in India. Half of this sum, or Rs 50 crore, is being contributed to the PM CARES Fund and the remaining Rs 50 crore is being spent in other relief efforts. The BML Munjal University - run by the Hero Group at Dharuhera in Haryana - has offered its 2,000-bed hostel for use as isolation and treatment ward by the local health department. Hero MotoCorp said it is also distributing more than 15,000 meals to daily wage-workers, stranded laborers and homeless families in several areas of Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat every day.
