A <keyword id="6461175" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="heatwave-warning" source="Orion">heatwave warning</keyword> has issued for the country's financial capital as well as Raigad and Thane districts for Monday and Tuesday, an IMD Mumbai official said. "Maximum temperature is likely to be in the range of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius," the official said. The civic administration in Mumbai has already issued guidelines for people to tackle the heatwave this summer season.

IMD issues heatwave warning for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts

As Mumbai, India's financial capital, witnessed vertical growth over the years with highrises dotting its skyline, some 'gaothans' (villages) have held onto their heritage and legacy. Ranwar, in the heart of Bandra, is one such village that has resisted the urge to make way for towering structures. Dwarfed by highrises, the East Indian-majority village has narrow streets lined with old quaint bungalows and crosses outside homes. With jazz music streaming in the air, walking around the area can transport you to a simpler time. While Bandra developed rapidly and became home to Bollywood's elite and a burgeoning street shopping hub, residents of Ranwar maintained their old bungalows. The coexistence, however, has come at a price, causing traffic issues and crowding. And now, plans are afoot to give the 300-year-old village a facelift while preserving the past. Talking to PTI, <keyword id="23283968" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Johan-Dharmai" source="Orion">Johan Dharmai</keyword>, BJP secretary and a member of the East Indian community, said, "Locals want to preserve the heritage. One of the steps in the facelift plan is to close vehicle movement and build a walkway so that tourists can take a stroll and enjoy the architecture." Though many houses in Ranwar are now being redeveloped, Veronica Street has maintained its old-world charm. It has a square erected in 1866. However, honking rents the air on this street, as motorists see it as a shortcut to Bandra Reclamation and other areas. Mehboob Studio is just a stone's throw away, and senior citizens living on Veronica Street recall seeing actors Helen and Zeenat Aman around Ranwar. A beautification, restoration and conservation project is being initiated to improve safety, regulate traffic and create awareness about the centuries-old village. Mumbai BJP president and <keyword id="20238930" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bandra-West" source="keywords">Bandra West</keyword> MLA Ashish Shelar recently met locals to discuss ways to move the project forward. "The beauty of Bandra West is its 'gaothans'. The heritage needs to be protected and showcased. I have asked the government to allocate funds from the District Planning Development Committee (DPDC). <keyword id="23283965" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranwar-Village" source="keywords">Ranwar village</keyword> will get a facelift. The work has begun on roads, CCTV cameras, street light illumination, parking and traffic plan will be in place with the help of locals and architects," Shelar told PTI. <keyword id="23283967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Architect-Samir-DMonte" source="keywords">Architect Samir D'Monte</keyword> has been working with the Ranwar Veronica Street Residents' Association since 2009, and they identified a range of problems that the area faced. D'Monte said improvements were made to open spaces and common areas, roads, sewage and drainage systems, street signage, street lighting and traffic and parking management. Apart from this, individual houses were restored, and an innovative fire system was also introduced. Locals say most residents are senior citizens and want to live peacefully without disturbances by motorists. Kaevan Umrigar of Khaki Tours, who works to create awareness about Mumbai's heritage, said Bandra comprised 23 gaothans that housed fisher folk, Kunbis (a farming community) and the agris community who had salt pans. "Ranwar was a farming village, and the area had paddy fields. Later, these paddy fields made way for urban settlements. These little villages are now trapped in the city. Now, only 10 to 15 gaothans in Bandra have survived," he said. But preserving heritage comes at a cost, and if a 'gaothan' comes under heritage guidelines, it becomes difficult to upgrade a home in the area or live a modern life, Umigar said, adding that heritage should be made attractive by tapping the tourism potential of these areas. 'Gaothans' in Mumbai and the larger Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) are urban villages that house the city's original inhabitants. The Mumbai suburban district collector and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been roped in for Ranwar's facelift plan. Umigar calls land scarcity a threat to 'gaothans', with only 100 left in the city. "When someone wants to develop gaothans, they want to do it vertically. There is a constant battle between heritage and development. They (villages) survive because the houses are tightly packed and on narrow lanes. So individual houses are not attractive for redevelopment, and parking becomes an issue," he said.

 What are the restrictions imposed under Section 144? Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area. India’s financial capital Mumbai is going one notch ahead to live up to its name and is in the process of creating an international financial district. 
 
This district will draw global business and will also attract them with tax-free norms and other deals. 
 <keyword id="2603637" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra-chief-minister-Devendra-Fadnavis">Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis</keyword> took the charge of creating the much talked about district in Mumbai and a master plan to develop the area is underway. 
 Discussions have been already held with <keyword id="6391015" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Minister-Arun-Jaitley">finance minister Arun Jaitley</keyword> and the Reserve Bank of India. 
 
The master plan, which is being prepared by a committee headed by Jayant Sinha, is being developed on the lines of financial centre in Gujarat with some necessary changes. 
 
"Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai have prospered because many Indians prefer to set up their companies there instead of setting up here because of taxation issues. What we are going to do is simply remove those tax hindrances,” said Poonam Mahajan, deputy chairperson of the committee. 
 
The proposed international district will come up on 60 acres of land.

Mumbai, Apr 23 () State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest lender, has set a target of disbursing Rs 700 crore to MSMEs in the Mumbai circle by the end of June, to help them tide over liquidity crisis due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Among all banks, SBI controls a market share of 22 per cent in the MSME lending. "SBI will boost flow of credit to MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) in this challenging period by reassessing their working capital limit and also by extending COVID-19 emergency loans. "Overall, we expect to lend Rs 700 crore to MSMEs in four districts of Mumbai circle -- Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad -- by the end of June," the World Trade Centre said in a statement quoting Suresh Nair, deputy general manager (SMEs and financial inclusion) at SBI, as saying after a webinar. Nair expressed hope that the pandemic will not lead to a sudden spurt in bad loans as the Reserve Bank of India has provided moratorium on all loan repayments. "The impact of the crisis on NPAs (non-performing assets) will become clear after August depending on the evolving situation," Nair said. Though SBI has provided sanction letter for additional loan facility to 67 per cent of all eligible borrowers, only 50 per cent of them could avail of the facility due to practical difficulties in executing documentation, he said. SBI to disburse Rs 700 cr to Mumbai circle MSMEs by June-end

The <keyword id="497173" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metro-Rail-Corporation">Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation</keyword> (MMRC), which is implementing the project, has received 87 expressions of interest (EOIs) to acquire rights to name 18 stations. In all, 28 organisations have expressed their interest in naming rights, with many of them showing interest in multiple stations, MMRC said in a statement. These include large PSUs like LIC, Indian Oil, banking and financial institutions like SBI, Bank of Baroda, UTI, Kotak, IDFC First, HSBC, airlines like Indigo, SpiceJet, and corporates like JSW, GlaxoSmithKline, TimesGroup, Blackstone, Phoenix Mills, Piramal, Oberoi, DB Realty among others. "The BKC station, being the most significant business district in the city, was the most sought-after station with 12 EOIs. Dadar and Airport Terminal 2 stations were joint second, receiving nine EOIs each, followed by Airport Terminal one and CSMT with seven EOIs each," it said. The EOI process was managed by non-fare revenue consultants Auctus Advisors and StudioPOD. "This level of response confirms our view that organizations and businesses in Mumbai have a significant commercial value to a long-term association with the metro network. Given its high ridership and reach, the organizations appreciate the impact and visibility it provides," MMRC Managing Director Ranjit Singh Deol said. He further said that non-fare revenue is critical for the sustainable operations of any transportation network, which helps keep passenger tariffs under check. "Stations naming rights is a critical source contributing significantly to overall of non-fare revenue. NEW DELHI: <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> and <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> are engaged in intense negotiations to hammer out an understanding over the creation of <keyword id="68884" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword>. 
 BJP has assured the government that it would not waver from its commitment to the creation of Telangana but is insisting on a specific pledge of financial support for Seemandhra region as the condition for supporting the <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> Reorganization Bill, expected to be introduced in Parliament on Wednesday. The Union home ministry on Sunday sent a recommendation to President Pranab Mukherjee for introduction of the Telangana bill in Parliament. 
 
Sources said BJP is demanding a commitment for extending financial assistance worth Rs 17,000 odd crore to Seemandhra region through the Consolidated Fund of India to meet the revenue gap it will be saddled with, based on projections for the previous and current fiscal years, because of the transfer of resource-rich Hyderabad to Telangana as the capital of the proposed state. 
 
The party also wants the government to ask the Finance Commission to find ways of helping Seemandhra region with adequate funds on a long-term basis as a compensation for Hyderabad which generated Rs 24,000 crore in revenue. 
 
It also wants specific commitments in the coming fiscal year for projects that the two sides feel should be created in Seemandhra region for its development. 
 Congress sources confirmed that there have been several rounds of talks between party representatives including Union ministers from Andhra Pradesh and BJP <keyword id="19496" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="leader">leader</keyword> and former party president M Venkaiah Naidu. 
 
When contacted, Naidu confirmed that he had been talking to Congress representatives and that he had made it plain that BJP will support the AP Reorganization Bill if the government commits itself to take measures for the development of Seemandhra region. 
 
"BJP in principle favours the creation of Telangana. That has been our consistent stand. But at the same time, we want to ensure that the interests of Seemandhra region are also safeguarded. There is no conflict of interest between the people of the two regions. They are all Indians and they are all Telugus,” Naidu said. 
 
He claimed that while the Centre and the Congress agreed about the need to take special steps in Seemandhra region, they were reluctant to back up their statements of intent with commitments of financial support. "They are not ready to make a commitment for the provision of assistance to Seemandhra through the Consolidated Fund of India to help it bridge the revenue gap. They want to leave the matter to the Finance Commission which is not acceptable to us,” Naidu said. 
 
Naidu also demanded commitment of support for projects the two sides have agreed on like upgrade of existing airports at Vizag, Vijaywada and Tirupati to international standards, creation of an industrial corridor between Vizag and Chennai along the lines of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and setting up of branches of central institutions located in Hyderabad such as DRDO, IIM and others. 
 
"I told them empty gestures of hand will not do. Put money on the table,” the BJP leader said. 
 Both sides said that while sticking points remained, they were in agreement on provisions of <keyword id="250148" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="The-Bill">the bill</keyword> such as declaring Rayalaseema region as backward and providing special incentives including tax holidays and exemption from central exercise for industry, creation of reservoirs in Seemandhra as part of the Polavaram project on Godavari, swift completion of six irrigation projects -- four in Rayalaseema and two in Telangana -- linked to Krishna river and a provision in the bill that education and employment opportunities in Hyderabad will remain open to people from both regions until Seemandhra gets its own capital. 
 
Naidu has also demanded creation of power plants of 4,000 mega watts capacity in the Telangana region. 
 
On the inclusion of Anantapur and Kurnool districts from Rayalaseema in Telangana, BJP is learnt to have said that it can be considered if the two regions agree.

Not even Shivaji could conquer it, despite 13 attempts. 
 
It is one-of-the kind as ravaged sea waves and a corrosive environment has still not been able to damage much of the fort, especially the exterior walls, which bear the brunt of the angry sea, every now and then.

It was constructed by Malik Ambar, a minister in the service of the Sultan of Ahmednagar, towards the end of the 17th Century. 
 
It took 22 years to build this fort on 22 acres of land.
