How to check Mumbai University’s first merit list for undergraduate courses

The university also informed students that the timings of the exams would remain the same. The final year exams for the students of the University of Mumbai began on October 1. Due to the pandemic, the exams were being conducted online and with no electricity in nearly all the regions of the city, the university had to postpone the exams. As many as 2.4 lakh students are appearing for the examinations this time. The power cut in MMR impacted almost all day-to-day activities of Mumbaikars — bringing even the city’s lifeline, the Central Railway and Western Railway to a grinding halt. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued helpline numbers for worried Mumbaikars. As of latest updates by 1 pm, the power has been restored in many parts of Mumbai including Lower Parel, Worli, Dadar, Kalina and Charni Road— after a blackout of over 2 hours. Mumbai University reschedules final exams after city suffers power outage — Here are the details

The online registration for admissions in <keyword id="6355632" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-University">Mumbai University</keyword> for the undergraduate and diploma courses will close today. The students seeking admission in the university for the upcoming academic session will have to register on the official website by 5 pm. The applicants can register on mu.ac.in. Alternatively, students can apply for the university courses at mum.digitaluniversity.ac. Post the registration process, the university is expected to release the first merit list next week on 13 June, followed by the document verification on 14 June. The varsity rolls out three merit lists for admission to undergraduate and diploma courses. The second and third merit list will be out on 17 June and 20 June, respectively. Wealth-X, in association with UBS, has released Billionaires census 2014, which reveals the top universities of the world that have shaped the maximum number of billionaires. 
 
The Top 10 universities list is filled with American schools, other than the number 9 and 10 spot. Mumbai University features at the ninth place that has produced 12 billionaires. Surprisingly, Mumbai University has beaten New York University and MIT in the list. University of Pennsylvania leads the list with 25 billionaires with Harvard in second place with 22. 
 Another startling fact that came to light from this list is that only one UK based school features in the list and no it is not oxford. London School of Economics is at number 10 that has prepared 11 billionaires. The top 20 list has only 4 outsiders, the rest are all universities from USA. The Russian Lomonosov Moscow State University is at number 11 and ETH <keyword id="57516" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Zurich">Zurich</keyword> is at number 20. 
 
Interestingly, 35% of the 2,325 billionaires in the world have not obtained a tertiary-level degree. The Wealth-X and UBS study suggests that higher education is not a precondition to becoming a billionaire. 
 However, In India studies are considered as the most essential part of growing up. Each parent wants the child to grow up and become successful in their lives, hence education is very important if one wants to climb the success ladder. Even though electricity gradually returned to certain parts of the city, many were left without power until 7:30 pm. New Delhi, Feb 5 () State-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) on Wednesday said it has appointed Lawrence Cajetan Serrao as the chief financial officer of the company with immediate effect."He has to his credit high professional exposure of more than three decades in finance, banking and agents accounting. He is also having specialised experience in Ind AS and Companies Act," SCI said in a BSE filing.He has worked in various departments in the finance division since he joined SCI. He held the post of director (finance) from 2004-2008 in Irano Hind Shipping Company Ltd (a Joint Venture of SCI), the filing said. Serrao, a graduate from Mumbai University and a Chartered Accountant, had joined SCI in 1988. Mumbai, Apr 7 () Newcomer Aditya Rawal, son of veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat, says his parents were understanding about his acting ambitions but wanted him to chart his own course in the industry. Aditya is making his acting debut with ZEE5 original film "Bamfaad"."It wasn't ever a case where we were looking for something to be launched with. It was never premeditated they let me choose my own path, I was charting my own path in life," Aditya told in an interview."Bamfaad" was shot at the end of 2018 with utmost secrecy because both Aditya and director Ranjan Chandel were making their foray into films and they wanted to talk only after they had a complete project in their hands.Aditya said he was more into sports and had played cricket and football, till he realised acting was his true calling. "In school, I was more into cricket, then I took up football, played for Mumbai and Maharashtra, I have been the captain of Mumbai University. Slowly my interest deviated from sports to theatre and acting and then came a time to make a decision," he said."I grew up with my parents, who are into theatre and I remember sitting in the audience and watching them perform for the nth time. I did theatre in school and college. I was always around that world," he added.Aditya said when he chose to get into films both his parents wanted him to make his own decisions."They supported me and were happy that I was getting into this profession. But it was made very clear to us that we make our own decisions and journey and be responsible towards it, we were told whatever we do we must enjoy our work."They said they are there to guide us. After coming back, casting director Taran Bajaj suggested that he audition for "Bamfaad" and this time it worked in his favour. The film is set in a romantic volatile backdrop which will bring out an unusual yet raw and edgy love story on the screen.Aditya, who is playing the male lead Nasir Jamal, said he is happy that he got the chance to enter the film industry with such a thrilling story."When I read the script I found the role, the world very interesting, it was different from the world I grew up in. As an actor you want to discover or explore new worlds. I am glad in my first film I got the opportunity to show as many facets as possible as an actor. Sanjay Mehta is popularly known as an angel investor and acts as a mentor to many entrepreneurs, but little is known about how Mehta became the go-to angel investors for many. 
 
He was born in a middle-class Gujarati joint family in Mumbai, and calls himself a ‘first-generation entrepreneur’. He was the first person in his family to take the leap into starting his own business but credits his family for teaching him the art of nurturing relationships with diverse people. 
 
He studied engineering from Mumbai University in 1993 and he was adamant about being an industrialist. 
His first company was Bespoke Software Consultancy, while he was interested in IT, he didn’t want to sell computers, he wanted to sell the software inside them. 
 
The entrepreneur that failed and started again 
 
His first venture was successful, but Sanjay felt the need to get out of the country like his peers albeit it was a short trip. 
 
He went at a time when the dot-com bust was about to happen and his exposure to trending e-commerce at the time propelled him to start a B2B commodity trade portal which failed and he returned in 1999. “I lost everything as investors backed out on the term sheet. I had to start from scratch. I realized that this was going to be a rollercoaster ride,” recalls Sanjay.

 Mehta came back to India in 1999 and went back to the grind and started another ahead-of-its-time company which too shut down. Undeterred he started again with <keyword id="4390649" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="udyog-software-india-ltd">Udyog Software India Ltd</keyword> which was a taxation product company in the year 2000. This third-time-lucky charm turned around things as Sanjay sold the venture to an Indian owned US company in 2004. 
 Mehta started his last company <keyword id="4390651" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="maia-intelligence">MAIA Intelligence</keyword> in 2007 which dealt with business intelligence software and analytics which he sold to Datamatics in 2015. While he was reaping the benefits of the two exits, he invested in real estate which was just in time for the boom.

 Equipped with new found wealth, he decided to look for other areas of investment and entered venture funding with Aditya Birla <keyword id="34499" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-equity">Private Equity</keyword> Fund as an LP. He joined Indian Angel Network which was the first angel network and then decided to be an ‘angel’ full time. 
Since the past four years, as a full-time investor, Mehta always wanted to either be an entrepreneur or support one and it all started with him watching his father’s hard work. “My father has always been in the corporate sector and he toiled really hard all his life but he never owned anything. If I’m building something, I thought that I should be the one owning it. That’s why I never applied for a job.”

He shares one instance wherein 1993, as a young lad, he wanted a PC to start his own business that cost up to a Lakh rupees and went to my grandfather to ask for a loan. He suggested visiting a bank, and all the financial institutions shooed him away after which his relatives helped in undersigning for the loan. 
 
The Mumbai-based investor was made to feel the importance of money from the beginning as he paid his own loan installments and it taught him a lot about financial discipline. Who runs Navigene (navigene.in): Two co-founders – Dr <keyword id="2024250" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rishi-Dixit">Rishi Dixit</keyword> (MD &amp; CEO) and Dr <keyword id="1888201" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vrushali-Joshi">Vrushali Joshi</keyword> (CTO) – and the early-stage incubation and <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> firm, <keyword id="720080" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IncuCapital">IncuCapital</keyword>. As sample collection is generally done by the people themselves or the <keyword id="6355907" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Medical-facilities">medical facilities</keyword>, the Navigene staff simply picks them up from homes/hospitals and courier them to the HO in Mumbai. 
 
What inspired the venture: The knowledge that non-traditional, highly accurate and revolutionary ways of medical diagnosis is possible through genetic screening and diagnostic techniques. Navigene was founded to bring these advanced <keyword id="684042" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="medical-technologies">medical technologies</keyword> to India. 
 
What’s the pitch: Early and accurate prediction/diagnosis of disorders and ailments in newborns and adults, through <keyword id="2024271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Preventive-genetic-screening">preventive genetic screening</keyword> – so that every individual has the opportunity to manage his/her health. “Over the years, we have learnt a great deal about how genes function and how they can cause certain problems. Now is the time to use that knowledge in exciting new ways to prevent and treat <keyword id="6377700" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health-problems">health problems</keyword>,” says Dr Rishi. 
 
How it works: Navigene currently caters to the B2B segment – <keyword id="796241" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="corporate-hospitals">corporate hospitals</keyword>, high-end nursing homes with birthing facilities, NICUs (<keyword id="1145483" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="neonatal-intensive-care-units">neonatal intensive care units</keyword>) and state-of-the-art <keyword id="2024290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Paediatric-facilities">paediatric facilities</keyword>. It also works with individual obstetricians/gynaecologists and paediatricians. The start-up typically approaches medical facilities who, in turn, offer/recommend these services to their clients. Once a client registers for the tests, he/she is given the sample collection kit and the rest of the testing procedure follows. 
 
As for newborn screening, parents get the kit as soon as they register and after the birth of the baby, either the hospital staff or the parents collect the urine sample of the baby on the 3rd day. It is then sent Navigene’s central lab in Mumbai where the sample is analysed and reports are sent within 4 days. If the report detects any abnormality, the concerned doctor/hospital/parents are immediately informed and further consultation could be arranged with medical experts. Genetic counselling for the parents is also offered in such cases. 
 
Show me the money: As of now, the start-up has a B2B revenue model in place while the B2C space is essentially serviced through its partners who can reach out to more people. Navigene charges fee per sample testing and its flagship solution, Navigene Baby Screen (NBS), which tests urine sample for 110 disorders, costs Rs 5,000. But to make it more affordable for Tier II cities and smaller medical facilities, customised packages start from Rs 900 for tracking 3-4 basic disorders and can go up to Rs 2,700 for screening 31 commonest disorders that affect infants in the first few months. The company has also tied up with a leading stem cell company for instant access to a large B2C market. “Plus, we want to work with the state governments when they start running the NBS programme at the state-run hospitals, but we will keep the packages small,” says Dr Rishi. 
 
The market size is also huge as around 30 million babies are born in India every year. “As of now, we are targeting 40 cities in India where our addressable market (a fraction of the urban population in these cities) is around 30 lakh babies a year. We aim to cover most of them over the next 3 years through our proprietary sales channel,” adds Dr Rishi. 
 
Claim to fame: A value driver in a critical industry while expansion is its forte. Navigene is a pioneer of sorts, bringing crucial preventive health screening for newborn babies at an affordable price. The start-up is currently doing 500 samples a month and targeting 10,000 samples in the next 3 years. 
 Navigene raised an undisclosed seed round with the help of its institutional co-promoter IncuCapital in August 2012 and it will be raising Series A <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> in the next 2-3 months. The money will be utilised to grow its presence pan-India and also in other geographies such as South-east Asia and <keyword id="48890" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Latin-America">Latin America</keyword>. “We can’t disclose the names just now, but these would be all bigger and more developed countries. We are also talking to a few players in Latin America, which can lead to substantial global expansion,” says Surojit Nandy of IncuCapital. As for pan-India expansion, the company plans to reach 40 cities in next the 3 years through its own B2B sales force. 
 The start-up has hit <keyword id="2024302" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Operational-breakeven">operational breakeven</keyword> in December 2013, within 11 months from starting its sales operations. But it is not really looking at that as a landmark. “We don’t intend to remain operationally cash-positive as we are growing at a breakneck speed and want to keep investing in the growth. That’s the reason we are looking at the Series A funding soon,” says Dr Rishi. 
 “We are also working on some breakthrough <keyword id="2024304" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Screening-products">screening products</keyword> around <keyword id="350054" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="metabolomics">metabolomics</keyword> in areas like oral &amp; <keyword id="16070" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="breast-cancer">breast cancer</keyword>, and adult metabolic disorders. So a big chunk of the Series A money will be used for product development. We will <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword> a good amount in Capex and Opex to further strengthen our testing portfolio,” he adds. 
 
Biggest challenge: According to Dr Rishi, there’s no real competition here as very few companies in India focus on genetics (metabolomics). As for the newborn screening business, a few labs who do screening through blood sample testing could be competitors, but they use an entirely different technology platform and can track a maximum of 45 disorders. However, creating awareness among prospective clients is currently the biggest challenge. <keyword id="1912844" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="patient-education">Patient education</keyword> is virtually non-existent in India while the cost of reaching them at a micro level could be huge. “That’s why we are opting for online registrations, which will reduce operational costs,” he notes. “Then there are other screening products we are working on. When they hit the market, we should be way ahead of others,” concludes Dr Rishi.
