The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will unveil a new state transport route of its prestigious Shivneri Volvo and e-Shivneri buses from the MTHL, or Atal Setu from February 20 on an experimental basis. The MSRTC will operate two new routes -- from Pune Station to <keyword id="19911435" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mantralaya" source="keywords">Mantralaya</keyword> (<keyword id="20237574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nariman-point" source="keywords">Nariman Point</keyword>) at 6.30 a.m. and another from Swargate (Pune) to Dadar at 7 a.m., which will be run via the MTHL. The return journey will commence on the same route at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and there will be a saving of around one hour both ways, benefitting the people of the state capital and the state's cultural- academic and IT capital, around 155 kms away. The MSRTC Divisional Commissioner Kailash Patil informed that there will be no change in the ticket fares, and urged the people commuting between the two cities to take advantage of the new routes with advance bookings on its site or app. Presently, the ST buses take over five-six hours, depending on the traffic density en route in both directions to cover the distance between Mumbai-Pune. However, this is expected to be slashed to about four hours in each direction, through the new route on the MTH, India's longest sea bridge, inaugurated by Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> on January 12.

Mumbai's upcoming Versova-Bandra Sea Link to be named Veer Savarkar Setu

As India is intensifying in terms of economy, infrastructure and IT, neighboring countries are looking forward to invest in Mumbai, the financial capital of the nation. As per a report published in The Economic Times, four countries are eying the multi-crore <keyword id="2936235" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Trans-harbor-Sea-Link">Mumbai Trans-harbor Sea Link</keyword> from Mumbai to <keyword id="57321" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navi-Mumbai">Navi Mumbai</keyword>. 
 The <keyword id="6356172" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra-government">Maharashtra government</keyword> had been struggling to seek funds for the 22-km sea link and had approached <keyword id="634122" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Japan-International-Co-operation-Agency">Japan International Co-operation Agency</keyword> (JICA) initially. Meanwhile, the <keyword id="71798" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chinese-government">Chinese government</keyword> too showed interest in the project in May, when Chief Minsiter <keyword id="6355042" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Devendra-Fadnavis">Devendra Fadnavis</keyword> visited China. 
 As per the state government officials’ inputs to ET, apart from <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword> and China, UK and Germany too are in contact with the Fadnavis government for the project. 
 
After many such offers in his kitty, what Devendra Fadnavis has to think of is the best deal as all the countries are up with their own terms and conditions. For instance, UK has put-up a condition that 20% of the project work should be given to firms in the UK while 30% could go to Indian firms. The rest 50% could be given to other firms abroad. Germany, on the other hand wants 50% of the project work to go to firms in its country, 30% to Indian firms and the rest to other firms abroad. 
 
China, to the contrary, has not laid down any conditions so far, but there have been reports that the Chinese are expecting the entire project under their command. As per a state government official, the Chinese government wants the entire project work, including the sub contracts, to be assigned to the firms in its country alone. 
 With so many offers, what the Maharashtrta government is looking forward to, USP Madan, commissioner of <keyword id="64095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metropolitan-Region-Development-Authority">Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority</keyword> (MMRDA), informed that no decision has been taken so far on who would be given the project.

Mumbai Trans-harbor Sea Link gets investors from UK and Germany

Expressing gratitude to the Centre for prioritising the country's first water taxi here, Thackeray said that it will go a long way in improving connectivity with Mumbai along with the network of roads, flyovers, subways, the upcoming Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and other mega-infrastructure projects. "The country's first railway service was started by the British between Mumbai and Thane before it quickly spread all over India. The city always sets a trend that is emulated by the rest of the country, after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ruled over the seas," said Thackeray. The water taxi service will not only benefit the people in travelling quickly -- from the present 90-100 minutes by road to 40-45 minutes by the sea -- but also give a fillip to tourist places like Elephanta Island, Kanhoji Angre Isle and other places on the mainland in the Konkan, besides spurring the local economy as more routes will be added in the near future. It would also give an option to the commuters coming to Mumbai from different parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and help ease of commuting in and around the country's commercial capital, he said. Sonowal said that besides the water taxi and Belapur Jetty, the Centre is making efforts to develop various infrastructure projects in all coastal areas of the country under the Sagarmala Project. "We are making efforts to provide better services to the people in the coasts, accelerate the cycle of economic development, generate employment, ease congestion on roads, etc. We plan to have more jetties in the Mumbai harbour area and depending on the public response, another jetty will be constructed here," Sonowal said. The Union Minister said that under the Sagarmala initiative, 131 projects worth Rs 1.05 lakh crore are earmarked for Maharashtra with financial assistance of Rs 278 crore to 46 projects since the state has huge potential for urban water transportation in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg coastal districts. As per the officials, the work on Belapur Jetty started in January 2019 and was completed in September 2021 at a cost of Rs 8.37 crore with state and Central funds. It has a huge parking area and presently three water taxi routes have been finalised linking the Domestic Cruise Terminal in south Mumbai with Belapur and JNPT on the mainland in Navi Mumbai, plus the Elephanta Caves. Four operators would run speed-boats as water taxis with a capacity of 10-30 passengers and catamarans that can ferry 56 passengers for mass transport, with provision for monthly passes for the regulars. Deputy CM Pawar, Shinde and Shaikh also spoke on the benefits and cost-effectiveness of water transport compared to other modes besides being eco-friendly and low on investments, considering Mumbai's strategic location vis-a-vis the mainland. One of the operators said that the water taxis shall be available for up to 330 days in a year -- barring the five-six weeks of the peak monsoon season -- to zip commuters to and fro the east coast of Mumbai and the mainland or the two isles. India's first water taxi connecting Mumbai east coast with mainland sets sail

The serious disruption caused to traffic flows through the <keyword id="168216" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suez-canal">Suez Canal</keyword> after a container ship went aground, has once again drawn attention to an expanded International North <keyword id="9996536" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="south-corridor">South Corridor</keyword> (INSTC) as a superior transit option in the years to come. Russia, Iran, and India have been quietly working on establishing a 7,200 km-long, multimodal trade corridor called INSTC. As it evolves, the INSTC is adding vital new spurs, fast emerging as a gigantic enterprise, which would link South Asia and West Asia with the beating heart of the Eurasian mainland. "The North-South corridor is a great option to replace the Suez Canal with a reduction in <keyword id="11048224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-times">travel times</keyword> to 20 days and savings of up to 30 percent," Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali wrote in a three-language post on his Facebook page late Saturday. The envoy pointed out that the $9 billion damage to the global economy caused by the Ever Given container vessel, that got struck and blocked international shipping, demonstrates that "the need to speed up the completion of infrastructure and the North-South corridor as an alternative to the route through the Suez Canal has become clear and more important than ever." The ultra-bold INSTC project came into being in 2002, when the transport ministers of Russia, Iran, and India signed an agreement to establish a 7200 kilometer multimodal ship, rail and road-based <keyword id="970255" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="transport-network">transport network</keyword>. Starting from Mumbai, it would head to Moscow via Iran and the Caspian Sea. Currently, the INSTC is set to spread its radials on a much bigger canvass. Essentially, the new INSTC is a combination of two corridors. One starts as originally conceived, from Mumbai and heads to Bandar Abbas, a famous Iranian port in the Gulf. From here it takes the overland route to Bandar Anzali, which is located on the Caspian Sea coast in the north. Containers are off-loaded here and shipped along the Caspian to its Russian shore at Astrakhan, which becomes the base of further transportation into Eurasia. Over time, other countries are being networked in this rapidly mutating corridor including Azerbaijan and Armenia, in tune with the rise of Eurasia in the 21 st century. The second corridor, or the <keyword id="1955428" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chabahar">Chabahar</keyword> route also begins at Mumbai, though Gujarat's upstart Mundra port is now acquiring greater resonance. From India's west coast, the corridor heads to Chabahar, Iran's only <keyword id="12350" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Ocean">Indian Ocean</keyword> port, which is still a work-in-progress with a vast potential. From Chabahar, in which India is pitching major investment, the route heads towards Afghanistan via Iran's Sistan Baluchistan province along a recent India-built road. Over time, a railway is also envisaged, which will link Chabahar with the Hajigak** iron ore mines in Afghanistan, where India has made major investments. Planners of the INSTC now want to link the two routes into a giant undertaking that will allow landlocked regions of Eurasia, not only to access the increasingly congested Bandar Abbas, but also the rapidly expanding <keyword id="190285" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chabahar-port">Chabahar port</keyword> and route. Denting allout criticism that India has been wrongly facing about going overboard with the Indo-pacific Quad and abandoning its "strategic autonomy," New Delhi has actually emerged as a strong votary for the twinning of the two routes, with a vast pan-Eurasian reach. Last month, India and Iran celebrated Chabahar day, where external affairs minister <keyword id="337334" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="S-Jaishankar">S. Jaishankar</keyword> proposed the integration of the Chabahar Port with the INSTC. "I am hopeful that during the INSTC Coordination Council meeting, member-states would agree to the expansion of the INSTC route to include the Chabahar Port and also agree on expanding the membership of this project." To develop the composite route further, Russian and Iranian media have been reporting that serious discussions are underway on the construction of a trans-Iranian canal, running from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea. Analysts, however, say that the plans for a Russian-Iranian trans-Iranian canal are not new. They first emerged in the late 19th century. Ambitious Russian engineers had then charted blueprints for a navigable canal, which would offer Moscow a shorter path to the Indian Ocean, bypassing the Turkish Straits and Egypt's Suez Canal. But political crises and revolutions in both countries had kept the idea frozen. However, with the Suez route once again demonstrating its vulnerability, the idea of an alternative trade passage may have finally arrived.  The good news is that the Navi Mumbai airport and the Trans-harbour sea link may not get stalled, according to Macquarie, but the pace of approvals may slowdown delaying the projects. The international financial services firm believes that the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress combine will be more favourable to the builders in the state and that will be music to the ears for the state's real estate sector that has been in shambles for a while now. It is important that Maharashtra's economy keeps moving at a fast pace because it is the largest contributor to India's GDP (gross domestic product). And already, Maharashtra's contribution to India's GDP is at a multi-year low at 14%. Here's what to expect from the new government in Maharashtra

In a shocking revelation, which has blown away the entire world, a retired Pakistani Official has asserted that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Pakistan+">Pakistan </a>should confess its master plan of letting <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Pakistani+terrorists">Pakistani terrorists</a> sail to Mumbai in 2008 and carry out the massacre. 
 As reported by Economic Times, <keyword id="1398506" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tariq-Khosa">Tariq Khosa</keyword>, a former director general of the <keyword id="125536" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Federal-Investigation-Agency">Federal Investigation Agency</keyword> (<keyword id="43642" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FIA">FIA</keyword>), has revealed a series of pointers that shook the entire nation. 
 Writing for the <keyword id="3001" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pakistan">Pakistan</keyword>i daily Dawn, Khosa said, "Pakistan has to deal with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mumbai+attacks">Mumbai mayhem</a>, planned and launched from its soil. This requires facing the truth and admitting mistakes." 
 
Mentioning the long-stretched case, Khosa mentioned his seven valid points including, "First, the entire state security apparatus must ensure that the perpetrators and masterminds of the ghastly terror attacks are brought to justice." 
 
Elaborating the setbacks for prosecutors he mentioned issues including inattentive plans by the defendants, repeated change of trial judges, assassination of the case prosecutor and also retracting from original testimony by some key witnesses. 
 
Under other major revelations Khosa mentioned, "Second, the training camp was identified and secured by the investigators. The casings of the explosive devices used in Mumbai were recovered from this training camp and duly matched. 
 
"Third, the fishing trawler used by the terrorists for hijacking an Indian trawler in which they sailed to Mumbai was brought back to harbor, then painted and concealed. It was recovered by the investigators and connected to the accused. 
 "Fourth, the engine of the vessel abandoned by the terrorists near Mumbai harbor contained a patent number through which the investigators traced its import from Japan to <keyword id="6580" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lahore">Lahore</keyword> and then to a <keyword id="6587" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="karachi">Karachi</keyword> sports shop from where an<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeT"> LeT-linked militant</a> purchased it along with the dinghy. The money trail was followed and linked to the accused who was arrested. 
 
"Fifth, the ops room in Karachi, from where the operation was directed, was also identified and secured by the investigators. The communications through Voice over Internet Protocol were unearthed. 
 
"Sixth, the alleged commander and his deputies were identified and arrested. Seventh, a couple of foreign-based financiers and facilitators were arrested and brought to face trial," Khosa further added. 
 
The write-up by Khosa read, "The Mumbai case is quite unique: one incident with two jurisdictions and two trials. While the Indians managed to nab Ajmal Kasab and were able to obtain his confession to close the trial, proving conspiracy in a different jurisdiction is more complex and requires a far superior quality of evidence. Therefore, the legal experts from both sides need to sit together rather than sulk and point fingers." 
 
Khosa asked: "Are we as a nation prepared to muster the courage to face uncomfortable truths and combat the demons of militancy that haunt our land?" 
 
In November 2008, ten <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Pakistan-faces-another-embarrassing-moment-Read-how/articleshow/48172707.cms">Pakistani terrorists </a>slinked into India’s financial capital Mumbai from the waters of Arabian Sea and butchered 166 citizens including Indians and foreigners. The attacks nearly caused war between the two countries. 
 
One of the ten attackers,<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kasab+"> Ajmal Amir Kasab</a> was caught and hanged to death on November 21, 2012 in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Yerwada">Yerwada Central Jail</a>. Other terrorists were killed by the security forces during attacks. 
 
Islamabad, initially, turned down the reports referring to its link with the attackers but later admitted that Kasab and the other leading brains were all Pakistani citizens. 
 Khosa, in his statement has said that Kasab too was a Pakistani national and that all the <keyword id="53557" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lashkar-e-Taiba">Lashkar-e-Taiba</keyword> (LeT) terrorists who attacked Mumbai were trained in Sindh’s Thatta town and also that they launched the plan from there itself.
