In a not very sane way to lure voters, keeping in mind the municipal polls in a few months, the <keyword id="6356315" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="corporation">Corporation</keyword> has announced exemption of taxes for senior citizens aged 100 years or more. 
 As expected, the bizarre proposal has invited criticism from various parties in the opposition. "The current budget session is just seeing melodrama," fumed <keyword id="1021541" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Goel">Mukesh Goel</keyword>, leader of the opposition in the corporation. "How many senior citizens will you find who are 100 years or older?” he questioned. 
 <keyword id="3984603" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parvesh-Wahi">Parvesh Wahi</keyword>, chairman of the civic body's standing committee, who finalized the budget for 2017-18 also proposed measures such as providing mobile phones to safai karamcharis (sanitation workers), regularisation of 6,000 daily wagers, developing flower parks at the ward level, constructing 500 toilets for women in every ward and organising a monthly health camp for women in each ward. 
 “We want to equip safai karamcharis with mobile phones to strengthen sanitation services. This will help to contact them directly because we will put their phone numbers in public domain. Also, we propose to regularise the appointments of 6,000 daily wagers against vacancies in various departments and give them insurance cover,” <keyword id="11486" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wahi">Wahi</keyword> explained the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 
While his party applauded the measure, the opposition asked if that will now become residents’ responsibility to call safai karmacharis whenever in need.

Bengaluru, May 14 () The Bill &amp; Melinda GatesFoundation, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and WadhwaniFoundation have partnered with Action Covid-19 Team (ACT)Grants, India's not-for-profit grant set up by some venturecapital investors and start-up founders, which has crossed theinitial milestone of Rs 100 crore.The three Foundations have joined ACT Grants as donorsand will extend the outreach of the initiative, it said in astatement.Gates Foundation will be a part of the projects'selection process and will support the project execution, witha focus on States such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.Wadhwani Foundation will also provide grants forselected projects, with a focus on immediate impact as well asimprovement of the long term Indian healthcare system.Further, the Foundation will provide pro-bono consultingservices to these projects to facilitate capacity, stabilityand growth, it said.ACT Grants said it has brought together the collectivestrength of over 50 venture capital firms, 40 start-ups andsome of India's entrepreneurs in the fight against COVID-19."ACT has disbursed grants to 39 start-ups in 43 days.These grants fall in the areas of telemedicine, mass scaletesting, patient tracking, suspect monitoring, contact tracingand manufacturing of PPE kits, all geared to combat COVID-19,"the statement said.Mohit Bhatnagar, a spokesperson from ACT Grants, said,"We share the same philanthropic outlook of all thefoundations involved, and look forward to working with andleveraging their experience and expertise to serve ourobjective."Geeta Goel, Country Director, Michael and Susan DellFoundation, said: "Our partnership with the ACT Grants teamwill enable teams to address quick local solutions to minimizethe risks created by COVID-19."ACT is a coalition of VCs, start-up communityfounders, entrepreneurs, investors and other industryveterans, according to the statement.The team has come together to provide grants betweenRs one lakh and Rs ten crore to start-ups and initiatives thatare harnessing technology to create large-scale impact in thedetection, prevention and eradication of COVID-19, it said.ACT Grants is an initiative set up by VC firms such asSequoia India, Accel Partners, Lightspeed Ventures, SAIFPartners, Matrix Partners, Nexus Venture Partners, KalaariCapital, Chiratae Ventures, and Omidyar Network along withentrepreneurs like Mukesh Bansal and Abhiraj Bhal in order tosupport the fight against COVID-19 by leveraging technologyfor scalable impact, it was stated. Over 15 top executives resigned from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ola&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ola</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=zomato&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Zomato</a> and Paytm within almost one year and launched their own startups and their success story is quite impressive too. 
 
Many of them either grew by leaps or bounds or sold off their businesses, raking in money. 
 
Experts say the top line now wants to make more moolah and thereby are building more cash making models. 
 Bhuvan Gupta, who was with <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> as VP engineering, cofounded an online marketplace-OfBusiness. 
 
Now, his startup has over 100 employees and is doing business across 10 states currently. 
 
"People may call ecommerce 'a cash burn business', but we're already cash positive. I always wanted to do a startup and there's always an age and time when you can take such risk," Gupta told ET. 
 
Meanwhile, the risk taking appetite has also gone up owing to greater aspirations of individuals, ideological differences with the unicorns, more money-oriented approach and a well-connected network. 
 Even Mukesh Bansal and Ankit Nagori of <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> had left the e-commerce player to launch a healthcare and fitness startup with $5 million of their own cash. 
 <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>’s former heads Rushil Goel and Sunit Singh quit coming up with their own design startup. 
 "I wanted to start a business that is economically viable and has a social objective. Priced at around Rs 10,000 apiece, the product is being lapped up by schools, hotels and hospitals. The market is very big. Around 13 Indian cities feature in the list of most polluted places in the world. There are states (in India) with just one air quality monitor," Namita Gupta, who left <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> to launch Airveda, told ET.
