The engineless locomotive, Train 18, had a test run on Sunday, reaching more than 180 kilometres per hour during the trial run between Kota Junction in <keyword id="6355588" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan">Rajasthan</keyword> and Kurlasi station in <keyword id="6355554" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>. It’s not even a week after the Hyperloop, the futuristic transportation system has shown its interest to launch high speed transport in India. The Hyperloop One head was present in India along with the railway minister to talk about the plan.  "We called for six top global companies who have technology that can travel beyond the 350km/hour speed. These trains can travel upto 600kms/hr speed. We called them and we told them that we will develop with you", railway minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here. 
 
"Six companies have come forward and the talks are in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/youmay-commute-between-mumbai-pune-in-just-10-minutes-at-price-of-train-ticket-hereshow/articleshow/57360521.cms">advanced stage</a>. If they could <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/youmay-commute-between-mumbai-pune-in-just-10-minutes-at-price-of-train-ticket-hereshow/articleshow/57360521.cms">manufacture such high speed trains</a>, the county would also be able to export it, he said. 
 <keyword id="19179" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhu">Prabhu</keyword> was here to take part in the <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> Business Leaders Conference organised by <keyword id="6358345" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CII">CII</keyword>. 
 
To a query on the timeframe for the launch of such high trains, Prabhu said "it may happen in 10 years. These are new areas which we are working on". 
 
On the launch speed trains, he said "Japanese companies are investing almost Rs one lakh crore into high speed railways." 
 On the investments taken up by his <keyword id="48413" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry">Ministry</keyword>, he said, "including the Rs 8.50 lakh crore proposed to be invested, we are investing an additional amount of Rs 85,000 crore for dedicated freight corridor project. We expect that to be completed in 2019. In the last two years, contracts has been issued, tenders have been finalised", he said. 
 
On developing the railway network in the country, he said, the Ministry has undertaken a vision plan for Railways 2030. 
 
"For the first time we are preparing a strategic plan to invest and decide on how railway network should be developed.", he said. 
 Earlier, Prabhu unveiled a series of initiatives at the <keyword id="28132" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="railway-station">Railway Station</keyword> here including launch of fifth and sixth track line between <keyword id="4251107" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="moore-markcomplex-basin-bridge">Moore MarkComplex-Basin Bridge</keyword> junction, dedication of free wi-fi service at <keyword id="1189417" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chennai-Egmore-station">Chennai Egmore Station</keyword>, double discharge platform at <keyword id="490381" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mambalam-railway-station">Mambalam Railway Station</keyword>, and also an elevated booking office at <keyword id="93450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kodambakkam">Kodambakkam</keyword> railway station, according to news agency.

After Hyeprloop, the Railway Ministry is planning to bring in 'very high speed' trains

Those of you who hate visiting a railway station fearing the stink and dirt may relax now. Because South Korea has come forward to redevelop the New Delhi railway station, one of the busiest terminals in the country, as a world-class facility, according to PTI report. 
Catering to more than five lakh passengers in a day, the station will be converted into a swanky complex at an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 crore, offering best facilities and shopping experience to travellers, according to an ambitious plan unveiled by the railways. 
 
Besides the multi-storey station building with separate sections for departures and arrivals, there is a provision for three skyscrapers for commercial use at the Ajmeri Gate side of the station which handles 361 trains a day. 
 
South Korean Railways has shown keenness for the redevelopment of New Delhi station, said a senior Railway Ministry official. 
The railways has explored the possibility of redeveloping the station leveraging commercial development of vacant land and air space in and around the station and has submitted a detailed plan with a possible layout to South Korean Railways. 
 
The architectural plan was elaborately drawn up with approach and exit routes, keeping the heavy traffic movement near the station at Connaught Place, the official said. 
 
While passengers waiting for trains will have adequate space on the first floor of the station, those disembarking will go out of the station through platforms on the ground level. The second floor will house offices, as per the plan. 
 
If everything goes accordingly, there will be a joint inspection of New Delhi station with South Korean team soon. 
 
This redeveloped station would have digital signage, escalators and elevators, automatic self-ticketing counters, executive lounges and many other facilities for passengers. 
 
The redevelopment of New Delhi station is part of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's emphasis on attracting substantial revenue through redevelopment of 400 stations with private participation. 
 
The railways has recently launched the first phase of the ambitious station redevelopment project for 23 junctions.

New Delhi railway station getting a world class makeover

In continuation with its project to provide high-speed public <keyword id="47655" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wi-Fi">Wi-Fi</keyword> service at 100 Railway stations across India by end of the year, <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> on Monday announced the launch of its free high-speed public Wi-Fi service at Ujjain, Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati and Allahabad railway stations. 

	Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu will formally inaugurate the service at these stations soon, it said.
 

	Google said it has been deploying the service over the extensive fibre network of Indian Railway's arm Railtel which provides Internet services as RailWire.
 

	With these launches, the service is now live and available to users at 15 stations across the country, it added.
 

	Backed by the "phenomenal" response to the service in Mumbai Central, Google will also extend the project to cover key suburban Mumbai stations working with RailTel.
 

	Google will deploy the service in Dadar, Bandra Terminus , Churchgate, Thane, Kalyan, Panvel, Vashi, Kurla, Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, Borivali and a few others, it added.
 "We're seeing incredible usage of the Wi-Fi service across the stations and over 2.5 lakhs users are using the service every week, demonstrating more than 2x growth in less than a month," <keyword id="45395" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-India">Google India</keyword> Head of Access Programs Gulzar Azad told PTI. 

	Stating that Google is committed to working with Indian Railways and Railtel to deliver high-speed Wi-Fi network that will be available to 10 million Indians by the end of the year, covering 100 of the busiest train stations in India, it said the project will be eventually rolled out to cover 400 train stations across India.
 The Railtel-Google free high-speed public Wi-Fi service is currently available at Mumbai Central, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword>, Vijayawada, Kacheguda, Ernakulum Junction, Vishakhapatnam, Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati, Ujjain and Allahabad.

Google launches free Wi-Fi services at 5 railway stations

New Delhi, Jun 14 () The Railways has deployed 204 isolation coaches in four states, including 54 at Delhi's Shakurbasti railway station maintenance depot, officials said, adding that the number in the capital will be scaled up to 500 in the coming days. Home Minister Amit Shah earlier Sunday had said the Centre would also provide 500 railway coaches to Delhi to overcome the shortage of hospital beds for COVID-19 patients. States like Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi requisitioned these coaches two months after the national transporter converted over 5,000 of its non-air conditioned coaches into COVID care centres. Seventy coaches have been deployed in Uttar Pradesh -- 10 each in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Faizabad, Saharanpur, Mirzapur and Jhansi. Fifty-four have been deployed at Shakurbasti maintenance depot in Delhi. Sixty coaches have been deployed in Telangana -- 20 each in Secunderabad, Kachguda and Adilabad and 20 coaches in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada. While Uttar Pradesh has asked for 240 such coaches for 24 locations, Telangana has requisitioned 60 for three places and Delhi has asked for 10 such coaches as COVID-19 cases in India surpassed the three lakh-mark. Railways deploys 204 isolation coaches in 4 states; 54 in Delhi to boost COVID-19 capacity

Railways will tomorrow announce a new policy for its catering services which shall separate the functioning of its cooking and food distribution onboard, according to a news report by PTI. 
 
The new catering policy to be announced by Railway minister Suresh Prabhu envisages fulfilling aspirations of public regarding healthy and hygienic food as it was flooded with complaints against food quality. 
 
While the food will be prepared at the state-of-the-art base kitchens, it would be distributed through service providers from hospitality industry, according to the new policy which aims to attract reputed food-chain players from the market. 
 
The new policy replacing the seven-year-old one gives back the IRCTC, a railways PSU, onboard catering responsibility for majority of trains including all the new ones. 
 
The Railways PSU was relieved from the responsibility through the current policy effected by the then Railway minister Mamata Banerjee in 2010. 
 
"IRCTC would begin to manage catering service in a phased manner. IRCTC would unbundle catering service by creating distribution primarily between food preparation and its distribution," Prabhu had announced in the 2016 Rail Budget. 
 
Railway catering policy-2017 also empowers the IRCTC to fix menu and tariff in consultation with Railway Board. 
 
In order to achieve social objective, the policy allows 33 per cent sub quota for women in allotment of stalls at all stations. 
 
"Besides, self-help groups will also be empaneled in catering services to promote employment opportunities in various regions," Railway Ministry sources said, adding "milk stalls would be alloted at all stations through open tender." 
 
Stringent guidelines have been incorporated in the policy to sup base kitchens at major junctions and also to restrict IRCTC from outsourcing private licensees outrightly. 
 
Perpetual renewal of food stalls at stations has been done away with and the new policy envisages that tenure of stalls shall be of five years only. 
 
The new policy, which encourages e-catering system, was finalised after taking suggestions from all stakeholders.
