Two years ago, they were almost unheard of. Today, they are everyday's news. The speed at which their popularity is escalating is not the bone we have to chew. It is indeed their ruthless conquests, demands, and neanderthal interpretations of a religion that was charted almost 1400 years ago. They started off slow. But the momentum at which they seem to be going is nothing less than spine-chilling. They are trained to the skull, muscled with ambition, funded without regrets, and bestowed with the power to execute the world without any consequences. <keyword id="174501" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISIS">ISIS</keyword> is no longer a tag-wearing intern. The barrels have changed. ISIS is now a robust and steady organisation building its business greater than ever before and exponentially expanding larger than any other extremist organisation had ever attempted to. What if you were to receive an email from ISIS about a prospective job offer with progressive growth options and all the perks that you have always wanted. Would you take it up? Headquartered at Ar-Raqqah, <keyword id="6354913" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Syria">Syria</keyword>, after capturing it in the Syrian Civil War, 2011, the Islamic State has since then been a global eagle, scouting for prey across the far horizons. Overseas candidates are welcomed with open arms (no pun). 
 
Its open-air theatre of “serving” justice and the strategic consecutive seizures around its illustrious epicentres have enabled the Islamic State to receive an applaud of a palette of fame that not only comes free of cost, but also comes with the girth of being second to none. 
 
As beings of the first order, we are encumbered by the obligation to be good or bad. To do the right thing. Or the wrong thing. But to be inbetween, we are told and have witnessed is a sin. ISIS, has ensured that it has left no stone unturned in taking full advantage from the metaphysics of this propaganda. That is, to proclaim the right and wrong, when it published its memorandum for the caliphate in June 2014. 
 
Right, being 'join us or die', for we are the chosen people. Wrong, being the infidels, everyone else who is not them (including people of their own faith). “The legality of all emirates, groups, states, and organisations becomes null by the expansion of the caliphate's authority and arrival of its troops to their areas.” - The declaration made by ISIS in its caliphate manifesto, doesn't spare much for imagination as it openly disregards and rejects all the previous middle eastern political agreements drafted during World War 1 in the Sykes-Picot Agreement. 
 
Multiple events have shown that their audacity can't be diffused by bombs and air-strikes alone, as their ground force continues to rattle the bones of war craftsmen. 
 
Not failing to empathise with the interpretation of the school that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link – to keep its precious pupils happy and to provide them with a home away from home, the Islamic State has compromised on its hardcore prohibitions of allowing women on-board in the cause for jihad. 
 As of the latter half of 2015, the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation provided that there are 30 European women who have flown to <keyword id="6355112" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Iraq">Iraq</keyword> and Syria to support their devout jihadist husbands, and in the provision of being unmarried, take the hand of a fighter from the Islamic State for marriage. 
 
Women, have always played a passive role in wars. Stitching battle wounds, nursing wounded souls, and replenishing soldiers through care and wisdom for them to keep going. 
 
Despite the hardline confiscation of all online assets (accounts and passwords) from its recruits before they are inducted (a measure taken to affirm the allegiance to the caliphate), dozens of boys in high school and college in the US, Canada, and European countries are still very enthusiastic and anticipatory of their collaboration with the Islamic State. 
 Near the dusk of 2014, the US State Department confirmed a dozen American citizens to be fighting with the ISIS, as the <keyword id="151242" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Canadian-government">Canadian government</keyword> declared that 130 of its people were in the cocoons of ISIS, and the <keyword id="58859" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="British-government">British government</keyword>, being the most candid, with its claim of 500 citizens, who were reportedly active in the affairs of the Islamic State. 
 <keyword id="1360627" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mubin-Shaikh">Mubin Shaikh</keyword>, an ex-Taliban recruiter who recruited jihadists from across the world sitting behind his computer desk at his home in Toronto, says that ISIS proactively looked for two types of people. Those who didn't know the religion much and the converts. The converts would normally have issues with their parents, so they were a weak target. In case you are wondering, Mubin Shaikh is now working as a national security operative for the Canadian government. 
 
The guns, the bullets, the sex slaves, and the “honour” of fighting for jihad will be on the house. But what about the blood on your hands? Whether you justify that in the name of God or war, the fact remains that you chose what you chose. 
 
The Islamic State is not too far from raising stock options. Its current form of organisation provides a regular stipend to its recruits, employs women that sort of provides a gender-balance solace, and encourages extensive diversity (though after induction, Islam is the only religion the recruits have to follow). 
 
ISIS was, ISIS is, and ISIS will be a dangerous acronym until time crushes its legacy. Its expansion could mean only one thing. Our dissolution. So it doesn't matter if they are called ISIS, ISIL, or IS and its men being termed fighters, extremists or jihadists. 
 
Apparently, in the tenure of the Islamic State, once the jihadist has paid his dues, he will be assigned or voluntarily take up the designation of a suicide bomber (to be read as “martyrdom”), and for the ones who don't die, will get to have their stakes in media relations or the police force. So good luck with that.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>After a monthslong internal investigation, <keyword id="187229" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-New-York-Times">The New York Times</keyword> said there were serious falsehoods at the center of its blockbuster "<keyword id="2390208" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="caliphate">Caliphate</keyword>" podcast hosted by Rukmini Callimachi, one of its star reporters.</li><li>The podcast's main figure, Shehroze Chaudhry, said he joined <keyword id="174501" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="ISIS">ISIS</keyword> in Syria, killed two people and participated in other terrorist activities, and then returned to his home in Canada.</li><li>Canadian officials believe that's a lie and have charged him with making false statements about terrorism.</li><li>The Times has issued editors notes on her podcast and other stories she's written over the years. The Times' top editor says she'll be assigned to another area of coverage.</li></ul>The <keyword id="53556" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="New-York-Times">New York Times</keyword> <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/20/podcasts/caliphate-transcript-prologue-the-mission.html">says</a> it has "discovered significant falsehoods and other discrepancies" in the story at the center of "Caliphate," its blockbuster podcast about ISIS terrorists.It's a dramatic blow to the reputation of host Rukmini Callimachi, one of the Times' star journalists and twice a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her reporting on extremist terrorism.The Times' announcement comes at the end of a months-long internal investigation into "Caliphate" and the rest of Callimachi's reporting on the Islamic State. The podcast was largely based on the life of Shehroze Chaudhry.Chaudhry said he adopted the name Abu Huzayfah, joined ISIS in Syria in 2014, participated in executions there, and planned terror attacks. He then moved back home to Canada in 2016, he said, where Callimachi interviewed him."Caliphate,"released in 2018, triggered outrage and puzzlement in Canada, as Canadians wondered why an apparently murderous terrorist was living freely in a Toronto suburb.Chaudhry was <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/isis-abu-huzaifa-investigators-1.4669769">interviewed by the RCMP</a>, the Canadian equivalent of the FBI, after the podcast's release. The <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="news">news</keyword> came <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/isis-abu-huzaifa-investigators-1.4669769">in a report by CBC journalist Diana Swain</a>, who also reported discrepancies in his stories about his time in ISIS.Chaudhry was charged in September 2020 with making false statements about terrorism. Canadian and American officials believe he lied about his involvement with jihadism and may have never stepped foot in Syria.<h2>Other Times journalists weren't confident in Callimachi's work</h2>The Chaudry affair drew widespread attention in the US with a series of articles <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/09/30/rukmini-callimachis-reporting-troubles/">by Washington Post journalist Erik Wemple</a>, who found a pattern of misleading or unsubstantiated reporting throughout Callimachi's body of work.<a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/james-foleys-family-blasts-star-ny-times-reporter-rukmini-callimachis-lies">The Daily Beast reported</a> that other Times journalists with experience covering terrorists had repeatedly flagged problems with her stories. Michael Foley, the brother of murdered ISIS hostage James Foley, told the Daily Beast he had repeatedly alerted Times editors of errors in her work as far back as January 2015.On Friday, the Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/20/podcasts/caliphate-transcript-prologue-the-mission.html">issued a lengthy editor's note on "Caliphate,"</a> saying it "found a history of misrepresentations by Mr. Chaudhry and no corroboration that he committed the atrocities he described.""Times journalists were too credulous about the verification steps that were undertaken and dismissive of the lack of corroboration of essential aspects of Mr. Chaudhry's account," the note reads.In <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/18/business/media/new-york-times-caliphate-podcast.html">an interview with the Times</a>, the publication's top editor, Dean Baquet, said there was "an institutional failing" and blamed his own leadership.<div type="image" title="Dean Baquet" height="1666" width="2223" msid="79802306" hostid="261"></div>"I thought we produced another, you know, 'Holy damn!' story," <a href="https://www.npr.org/2020/12/18/944594193/new-york-times-retracts-hit-podcast-series-caliphate-on-isis-executioner">Baquet told NPR</a>. "I was really proud of it. Another big story to embrace and applaud."In <a href="https://twitter.com/rcallimachi/status/1339956839082037250">a statement posted to Twitter</a>, Callimachi said she regrets letting down her colleagues."I caught the subject of our podcast lying about key aspects of his account and reported that. I also didn't catch the other lies he told us, and I should have," she wrote, adding: "To our listeners, I apologize for what we missed and what we got wrong. We are correcting the record and I commit to doing better in the future."Since the Times' internal investigation began, Callimachi <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/by/rukmini-callimachi">has published only a handful of stories for the paper</a>, including several on the killing of Breonna Taylor. Baquet told NPR that she would no longer report on terrorism.<h2>Chaudhry's purported ISIS photos were from newswire services</h2>In addition to an internal investigation, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/18/world/middleeast/caliphate-chaudhry-hoax.html">four Times reporters published a separate investigation</a> into Callimachi's work. Chaudhry, the report said, was currently working at his family's shawarma shop.The report also found that social <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> posts he made during the period of time he was purportedly in Syria were photos taken by reporters that could be found easily on Getty Images.It also found he told The Times before "Caliphate" aired that he went to Syria in the fall of 2014, even though he was enrolled in a university at the time, along with other irregularities.Experts told the Times that Chaudhry held extremist views, but that his stories about ISIS were "fantasies.""He's an ISIS supporter, a hundred percent," Mubin Shaikh, a deradicalization guide who counseled Chaudhry, told The Times. "So it looks like he's created a fantasy for himself. I can see how this happens. You're consuming this ISIS stuff day in and day out.
