Ahmedabad, March 12 (IANS) The Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera will be filled up to 50 per cent of its capacity during the five-match T20I series between India and England that starts on Friday, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) said. "Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has decided to use only 50 per cent capacity of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for the five T20 Internationals to be played here between India and England from March 12, 2021 to March 20, 2021. All the COVID-19 related precautions have been taken and all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being followed," said the GCA in its statement. "Up to 50% tickets will be issued on the online and offline ticketing platforms for these matches," GCA vice-president Dhanraj Nathwani said. The GCA further said that the stadium, which also hosted the third and fourth Tests between India and England in February and March, has been sanitised. "All COVID-19 guidelines are being strictly adhered to and special task force committees have been set up to ensure that all required safety measures are implemented and followed," said the GCA. The first T20I will be followed by the second match on March 14, the third on March 16, the fourth T20I on March 18 and the fifth on March 20.

 The exhibition match between Asia XI and World XI in March 2020 is likely to be the first match played in the stadium. The cricket stadium will not only be utilised for national and international cricket matches but will also constitute an indoor cricket academy. <a href="https://populous.com/project/motera-cricket-stadium">According to Populous, the company designing the stadium</a>, “A community academy will be housed under the podium in the stadium, with a dormitory for up to 40 athletes, allowing students from across India and the globe to attend. The academy also has access to six indoor practice pitches and three outdoor practice fields,” Three pitches and a way to soak rain during matches Apart from being the world’s largest, the stadium will consist of three different kinds of pitches — from bouncy, spin friendly, or a mix of both — to suit the need of fast bowlers and spinners. The <keyword id="53892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-Cricket-Association">Gujarat Cricket Association</keyword> (GCA) which is executing the project, is preparing as many as 11 pitches. “Some pitches will be prepared with red soil, while some will be with black soil and some may have a mix of both. There will be bouncy as well as spin-friendly pitches along with sporting pitches based on the requirement,” <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/explained/explained-motera-stadium-biggest-cricket-ground-6147038/">Dhanraj Nathwani, vice president of GCA told the Indian Express. </a> Moreover, it will have advanced drainage facilities that will flush out rain water in 30 minutes. It means fewer matches will be stalled due to rain. “We have planned a sub-surface drainage system in such a way that the entire ground will dry within 30 minutes after the rain stops. The 1,10,000-capacity stadium is the largest cricket stadium in the world in terms of capacity. The recent India-England Test matches were the first international cricket matches to be held after its reconstruction. "We are expecting a lot more crowd than what we saw in the Test matches. As of now, we have been able to sell over 40,000 tickets. We are expecting that the seats will be filled up for the first T20 International," said a <keyword id="53892" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-Cricket-Association">Gujarat Cricket Association</keyword> official. Big crowd likely for 1st India-England T20

The Indian cricket board will be expecting the two new <keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL" source="Orion">IPL</keyword> franchises to go for Rs 7000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore each after the bidding process begins here on Monday. It is still not clear whether the BCCI will announce the successful bidders on Monday itself after doing the technical evaluation of the bids. There are 22 companies which have picked up tender document worth Rs 10 lakh but with base price for new teams pegged at INR 2000 crore, there is expected to be only five to six serious bidders in fray. The BCCI is also allowing a consortium of up to three companies/individuals to bid for a franchise. However, in case of an individual or company, that particular entity's annual turnover should be minimum INR 3000 crore and in case of consortium, each of the three entities should have an annual turnover of INR 2500 crore. In this scenario, one of India's richest business tycoon <keyword id="111343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gautam-adani" source="Orion">Gautam Adani</keyword> and his Adani Group are expected to bid for the Ahmedabad franchise. Adani Group, if they finally put up a bid, are the favourites to own a new franchise. Similarly, RPSG group which is headlined by billionaire Sanjiv Goenka are also considered to be serious bidders for a new franchise. Whether RPSG would have any individual or other company as a part of consortium is still not known. "Gautam Adani and Sanjiv Goenka are the biggest names in the Indian industry. They will be serious bidders. Expect a minimum bid of INR 3500 crore from the potential bidders. Don't forget that IPL broadcast rights is projected around USD 5 billion (Rs 36,000 Crore). "So the economics will work accordingly as franchises get the TV revenue share equally," a BCCI insider tracking the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. For the record, Goenka owned the <keyword id="12377413" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pune-franchise-rising-pune-supergiants" source="Orion">Pune Franchise Rising Pune Supergiants</keyword> (RPS) for two years and is also the owner of ISL franchise ATK Mohun Bagan. There has been buzz that Lancer group, which is owned by Manchester United owner Avram Glazer, has also picked up the bid document. The other notable companies which are in fray comprise Kotak group, pharmaceutical majors Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent group. The two cities that are favourites in terms of stadium capacity are <keyword id="10818893" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi-stadium" source="Orion">Narendra Modi Stadium</keyword> in Motera with more than 100,000 capacity while the other is Ekana Stadium in Lucknow with 70,000 capacity. The other cities in the hunt are Indore, Guwahati, Cuttack, Dharamsala and Pune. Former India cricketer may join one of the consortium A former India opener may join one of the consortiums which is expected to be serious bidders for the new franchises. "Yes, a former India opener is ready to shell out around INR 300 crore and buy a minority stake if the consortium he is part of is able to successfully bid for a new team. He comes from a business family and he does want to invest in a cricket team. "He is a distinguished player in his own right and also understands how the franchisee universe works," the BCCI source said.
