Mumbai, Feb 25 () Toll road firm IRB Infrastructure Developers on Tuesday said it has bagged a contract for operating and collecting toll on Mumbai-Pune Expressway project under the toll-operate-toll model. The company has received a letter of acceptance (LoA) from Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for a period of 10 years and two months. The concession includes collection of toll and operation and maintenance activities on the expressway and old Mumbai-Pune highway NH-48 for the period up to April 30, 2030, the company said in a statement. As per the contract, IRB will have to pay Rs 8,262 crore to MSRDC for the rights for collecting toll, which would include an upfront payment of Rs 6,500 crore and a further staggered payment of Rs 850 crore each in second year and third year, and Rs 62 crore in fourth year. "The company will take possession of the project from March 1, 2020 and commence tolling and O&amp;M activities," IRB said. Commenting on the development, company's chairman and managing director Virendra Mhaiskar said, "We had managed this project for 15 years from 2004 to 2019 and hence we feel that it will help us in managing the project well and meet the expectations of all stakeholders." During the earlier concession period, IRB had paid Rs 918 crore to MSRDC for bagging the project. After the concession agreement lapsed in August last year, MSRDC had handed over toll collection on the stretch on temporary basis to Sahkar Global. Meanwhile, toll rates on the expressway are expected to increase from April 1 for three years after the appointment of new concessionaire. As per a government notification, the new toll rates for cars will increase from Rs 230 to Rs 270, while for mini buses it will go up from Rs 355 to Rs 420 for trucks, and it will rise from Rs 493 to Rs 580 for heavy axle vehicles. For buses, it will increase from Rs 675 to Rs 797, and for large trucks it will rise from Rs 1,165-1,555 to Rs 1,380-1,835. PSK RVK

In Navi Mumbai and Western suburbs too experienced heavy rains overnight. Western express highway is flooded with Versova and Andheri are water logged already. Low lying areas of Dadar and Sion are also water-logged. Lifeline Stalled The train service which is referred to as ‘Mumbai’s lifeline’, has stopped early morning today as all the three lines—Western, Central and Harbour lines have been shut down. In fact, around 11:52 am, the city is expecting a high tide of 4.5 meters by 11:52 am. Non-stop rains in Mumbai have killed 22, shut government offices, schools, delayed flights, and stranded people-- and it’s not over yet

<ul><li>Virgin <keyword id="6396317" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyperloop">Hyperloop</keyword> signs an intent agreement with the Government of Maharashtra. </li><li>The route shall extend from the <keyword id="2094" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pune">Pune</keyword> to <keyword id="6358070" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai">Mumbai</keyword>, as well as Navi Mumbai International Airport. </li><li>Since the airport gates will be more accessible, the loop aims to ferry 150 million passengers every year.</li></ul> It’s wonderful to live in an age where sci-fi concepts can be turned into real-life projects. Cutting down 3 hours of travel time to just 25 minutes is something that you imagine only an aircraft can do. The Hyperloop project makes it possible on-ground. Not only is this surreal, but <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> could potentially be the first country to boast of a Hyperloop system in the entire world. Elon Musk’s brainchild, the futuristic transport system could be a reality in the next five to seven years. The <keyword id="182673" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Virgin-Group">Virgin Group</keyword> just signed an ‘intent agreement’ with the Maharashtra Government to connect Pune to Mumbai using the Hyperloop transportation system. Currently, the trip takes three hours if you take the expressway, but with the Hyperloop in place, it won’t be more than 25 minutes. But what is Hyperloop and how can it claim to achieve such a feat? The wonder that is Hyperloop Hyperloop is basically an innovative transport system that uses magnetic levitation (maglev) to transport a pod on the surface through a sealed tube. It’s conceptualised that these pods should be able to reach speeds up to 1000km/hr. Originally designed by SpaceX and Tesla, the project was then made open-source so that anyone could build on it and utilise the <keyword id="6355118" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="technology">technology</keyword>. The reason these pods will able to travel so fast is due to the application of the vactrain concept. These capsules will be shooting with a vacuum tube (airless) allowing for speeds that could theoretically go up to 1200km/hr. So far the main obstacle in building these routes has been the high cost of maglev and the difficulty of maintaining a steady vacuum over long distances. The <a href="https://www.digit.in/general/meet-hyperloop-india-the-team-building-a-hyperloop-pod-right-here-in-india-33957.html" data-type="tilCustomLink">Hyperloop India</a> team, when participating in the Hyperloop One Global Challenge said that it would be better to use aluminium rather than fibre to build the pods because it would be more scalable that way. The route will be fully electric but the project will only take off after a six-month in-depth feasibility study has been conducted. This is essential in order to define the route alignment, environmental impact, economic and commercial viability in line with the cost and funding models that will be applied. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/Transport-Blogger-Ridicules-The-Hyperloop-Says-It-Will-Cost-A-Fortune-And-Be-A-Terrifying-Barf-Ride/articleshow/21939118.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">critique</a> of Hyperloop is that the possibility of an unpleasant and frightening experience happening in a narrow, sealed and windowless capsule is high. Being subject to significant acceleration and high noise levels as the capsule reaches near sonic speeds leaves a lot of people apprehensive about its usability. <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2013/8/16/4626506/speed-bumps-and-vomit-are-the-hyperloops-biggest-challenges" data-type="tilCustomLink">Critics</a> even state that despite the tube intently to run as smoothly as possible, all it will take a slight shift in the ground due to seismic activity, and the minor deviation could result in considerable buffeting. Despite this, the Hyperloop India team claims that it shouldn’t be that different from riding in an aircraft. They maintain that there’s a difference between velocity and acceleration. Acceleration is what you feel as the plane takes off, but once you’re in the air, you hardly notice that you’re moving. Riding in a vacuum tube should be akin to that. Virgin Hyperloop and the Government of Maharashtra "We have signed an agreement with Maharashtra to build a Virgin Hyperloop between Mumbai and Pune, beginning with an operational demonstration track in the region," stated <keyword id="58954" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Richard-Branson">Richard Branson</keyword>, the Virgin Group chairman at the first day of the Magnetic Maharashtra investor summit in Mumbai. He added that "The proposed Hyperloop transportation system will transform the transportation system and make Maharashtra a global pioneer in the space. The socioeconomic benefits of the project is $55 billion (Rs. 3,54,750 crore),” claiming that the venture would create thousands of jobs. Details such as the project cost and a timeline are yet to be announced. Considering that the Hyperloop hasn’t yet become commercially operational anywhere in the world, India is competing against Dubai for the first spot. Virgin Hyperloop set to reduce travel time between Pune and Mumbai to 25 minutes

<ul><li>The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert in Gujarat as the <keyword id="7743904" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cyclone-vayu">Cyclone Vayu</keyword> intensifies in Arabian Sea. </li><li>The IMD issued orange alert as it doesn’t expect the cyclone to cause much damage. However, it has warned fishermen from venturing into the sea till June 13. </li><li>The progress of monsoon may be hampered till June 15-16 as the cyclone will draw the moisture away. </li></ul>A day after Kerala received its first delayed monsoon, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a cyclone is heading towards Gujarat. Cyclone Vayu has intensified in the Arabian Sea coast and it is causing heavy rains, winds and thunderstorms, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/cyclone-vayu-set-to-turn-severe-may-delay-rains/articleshow/69732351.cms">according to media reports</a>. IMD issued an orange alert as it doesn’t expect the cyclone to cause much damage. Yet, it warned fishermen from venturing into the sea till June 13. Though the cyclone caused heavy rains across the Western Coast of India including Mumbai, Pune, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, it might cause more damage to the already delayed monsoons in the area.  Moving to Gujarat The cyclone is moving close to Gujarat at a speed ranging from 75 km per hour to a maximum of 135 km. It is likely to hit Gujarat on June 12 night, said IMD. "The system currently is seen as a depression over the Southeast and East Central Arabian Sea and is centered at 11.2°N and 71°E, around 800 km South-Southwest of Mumbai," according to skymetweather.com. As per MeT officials, the Cyclone Vayu will head to the Saurashtra by June 12. The western parts of Saurashtra and Kutch region in Gujarat are likely to witness ‘heavy to very heavy rains’ between June 12 and June 14. Jamnagar, Somnath, Porbander, Dwarka and Nailiya in Kutch are likely to be impacted the most, and could even herald pre-monsoons rain across Gujarat. The cyclone might also bring light showers to cities, like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Rajkot, Veraval and Bhuj on June 12 and June 13.
