Amid the loud chants of “Modi, Modi” at <keyword id="8953" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Madison-Square-Garden">Madison Square Garden</keyword> (MSG), India’s new <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, who is currently on a five-day visit to the US, addressed a gathering of thousands of people on Sunday. 
 
The Prime Minister received a warm welcome by a large population of India-American, inspired by Modi’s rags-to-riches story, along with a group of Senators. 
 The event did not restrict to the boundaries of the MSG as many NRIs also gathered at <keyword id="67784" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Times-Square">Times Square</keyword> to watch the Prime Ministers speech live, which was broadcast on a big screen there. Notably, Indian-Americans make up the third-largest Asian-American group in the US and lead these groups in terms of income and education, according to Pew Research Centre.

NaMo Greets Indian-Americans On Navratri 
Greeting people on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, Narendra Modi said that it is a phase to make yourself pure. 
 
"Navratri is the time to purify the self. The fact that I got to meet all of you during this auspicious time is my privilege," he told a rapturously cheering Indian diaspora at the MSG. 
 
Will Never Do Anything To Put You Down: PM 
At the MSG, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that winning elections is not for sitting on a seat but a responsibility, noting that he hasn’t even taken a 15-minute break since taking over the helm of the country. 
 
Indians Create Magic With Mouse: Modi 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again stressed that India was once known as a world of snake charmers, now with help of 'mouse' the people of the country have woven magic in the world of information and technology (IT). 
 
"I was in Taiwan some years ago; someone wanted to ask a question and was hesitating. He asked if I won't feel bad, I said go ahead. He said I heard India is a land of black magic and snake charmers. I said no, our forefathers maybe would play with snakes but we play with the (computer) mouse," he said in his address.

PM Calls For ‘Make in India’ In a bid to boost up the <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian economy</keyword>, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the Indian-Americans and other US citizens to invest in India. 
 
“If you want human resources and low-cost production, then India is your destination. I invite you to the Make in India initiative,” he said 
 
Modi Announces Visa On Arrival 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that PIO card holders, who have faced visa issues, will get lifelong visas. He said, "Those who stay in India for a long time have to go to the police station, now they won't have to." 
 
"I have been told that due to differences between PIO and OCI people face difficulties, especially those who have spouses who are not Indians. I am happy to announce that we will merge the PIO and OCI schemes and make it into one," he added.

Concluding his hour-long address, Narendra Modi thanked the 20,000-strong gathering gathered at the MSG for their love. 
 
"You have so much love for me, probably no other Indian leader has received this kind of love... Mein iska karz chukaoonga (I shall repay this debt), to make the Bharat of your dreams," Modi said amidst the loud chant of "Modi, Modi".

While marketers around the world carried on business as usual over the past two months, the marketing magic was unfolding over 1.25 billion people. India plunged into the General Elections for the Lower House of the Parliament (<keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword>) on April 7 and over the next 5 weeks, the dance of democracy held sway over 814 million voters – the largest voting population in the world. 
 The recently concluded Lok Sabha polls featured various traits that characterise all democratic <keyword id="6359191" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="election">election</keyword>s – name-calling among politicians, public addresses by top candidates, dirty linen being washed in public and so on. However, this election was special because of the unprecedented and innovative ways in which marketing was employed by the winning party – the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – to wrest the most emphatic election victory India has witnessed in more than three decades. 
 
Here are the top 10 learnings that marketers can take away from the BJP’s impressive electoral campaign. 
 
1. Be clear in your positioning 
The BJP could have picked from a million problems affecting the Indian voters – poverty, women’s empowerment, social justice, equal pay for equal work, secularism and so on. However, they picked two clear pillars for their marketing campaign – good governance and economic growth – and stuck to those two ideas throughout their year-long canvassing. 
 
Lesson: Every brand needs clear positioning and a clear statement that tells you what it stands for. Pick your brand position and hammer it home, so that your users won’t forget it. 
 
2. Don’t let bad karma haunt you The BJP has been ruling Gujarat since 2001. However, the communal clashes in 2002 that killed over a thousand people from the minority community became the biggest blot on <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> and his election bid. In spite of being exonerated by the Supreme Court, the national and the global media pinned the blame for not controlling (and instead, encouraging) the rioters on the state government, led by the then Chief Minister Modi. 
 
Lesson: Every brand makes mistakes, be it a faulty product, an oil spill or software that crashes more than it works. Acknowledge your errors and move on. The more you focus on the positives, the less your past mistakes will affect you. 
 
3. Good products support credible marketing 
Narendra Modi-led Gujarat became one of the most industrialised states in India, with rapid economic growth and massive foreign investments worth millions of dollars. The better-than-average infrastructure and improved employment rates are only too obvious now. 
 
Lesson: Marketing can only do so much for a bad product. It’s a great product, backed by smart marketing, which becomes a world-beating one. The iPhone would never have been the phenomenon it is without being a great product, to begin with. 
 
4. Turn the tables on the competition 
Opposition parties highlighted Modi’s humble beginnings as a tea-seller in one of the innumerable attempts to discredit his claims to the highest office in the country. However, Modi and the BJP used this perceived insult to their advantage and turned it into an inspirational saga, gaining support of the ‘backward’ social classes in the process. 
 
Lesson: Every jibe by your competition can be turned on its head and used to your advantage. All it needs is a lot of patience and some creativity. 
 
5. Put a face to the brand 
The BJP’s share of votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls was nearly 64% higher than the votes it won in the previous general elections. And a large share of the credit for this performance goes to its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, around whom the entire marketing campaign was built. The party successfully built a personality cult around Modi and his achievements in Gujarat. It was a victory for Modi rather than for the BJP. 
 
Lesson: A highly recognisable and persuasive face behind a brand only adds to the brand’s equity. Leverage the power of personality wherever you can. Sir Richard Branson &amp; the Virgin Group and Steve Jobs &amp; Apple are just two examples of the tangible faces associated with big brands. 
 
6. Be innovative 
The winning party’s electoral campaign was innovative in a variety of ways: 
· The BJP held public rallies in 1,350 locations across India where Narendra Modi appeared in the form of a 3D hologram, instead of being present in person. 
· Video ‘hangouts’ where people could video chat with Modi one on one were carried out at tea stalls across 24 out of the 28 states in India, with more than a million people participating. The hangouts were branded as Chai pe Charcha, meaning a Chat over Tea. 
· Out-of-the-box merchandising including jackets, masks, pen drives and Indian bread with NaMo and BJP’s campaign slogans branded on them; also construction bricks with NaMo stamped on them. 
· The brand building continued even after BJP’s victory in the form of a <a href="http://victorywall.narendramodi.in/">Victory Wall</a> on Narendra Modi’s website. 
 
Lesson: Innovation always pays off. Whether it is in your product design, packaging or distribution method, think out of the box for marketing your brand and it will stand out from the clutter. 
 
7. Cast a social media spell 
The BJP and Modi orchestrated the most sophisticated political campaign on social media till date. From Facebook to Twitter to YouTube to blogs to WhatsApp, Modi reached out to voters in every way imaginable. With informative content, share-worthy infographics, funny memes and hashtags targeting the opposition, and direct interaction with voters, Modi did not let traditional media take away the control of his campaign. 
 
Lesson: Social media DOES get you results. The BJP’s marketing campaign and Modi’s social media clout are living proof. The now silenced social media naysayers have only to take a look at the number of mentions that Modi generated on his way to a historic win to understand the power of social media. CNN chose to dub this election as the first social media election in India. The Obama magic was effectively duplicated and surpassed by Modi magic. 
 
8. Identify gaps and fill them 
India’s incumbent government was widely criticised for its lack of leadership, mindboggling corruption scandals and indecisiveness on the economic front. The BJP identified these lacunae and modelled itself as the party that promised a strong and clean leadership with a proven track record of rapid economic growth. Picking a candidate like Modi was the party’s master stroke in securing a victory in these elections. 
 
Lesson: Do your <keyword id="29547" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Market">market</keyword> research well. Understand what the pain points of your target audience are and aim to fill in the blanks as best as possible. People care more about a problem-solving product than for another me too. 
 
9. Nothing beats catchy branding 
All the parties involved in the Indian elections spent millions of dollars in marketing themselves and their agendas. What set the BJP apart was its catchy branding and glib copy. One of its main campaign taglines – Ab ki baar, Modi sarkar (loosely translating as Time for Change, Time for Modi) became a viral hit, with hundreds of user-generated versions of the tagline appearing on social networks, newspapers and television. 
 
Lesson: You may not give enough credit to copywriting or brand mantras, but a catchphrase with smart branding goes a long way in conversion. Don’t just look at the immediate results; look at all possible implications. Don Draper agrees with this line of thought 100%. 
 
10. Championships aren’t won without teamwork 
In a country notorious for mismanagement of its resources, the winning party did a great job of putting together a great team with clear-cut campaign responsibilities. Although Narendra Modi was leveraged as the star campaigner during the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP war room was efficiently manned by some of the brightest brains around. The party fielded qualified and experienced candidates who were handpicked for their past successes, unlike competing political parties that had no real game plan in this regard. 
 
Lesson: Take the time and put in the effort to cherry-pick the right people for your marketing team. Assign clear roles and set measurable targets. Objectivity goes a long way in getting a team to put in their best. 
 
In hindsight 
Political campaigns only happen once in five years. They are like intense 100m sprints at the end of which the winners can catch their breath and rest on their achievements. However, on analysing the marketing tactics employed by the BJP in the Indian elections this year, you’ll realise that the essence of a winning marketing campaign does not change. Whether you’re marketing a political party or a business with an idea, a product or a service – if you get your fundamentals right, victory is just a list of checkboxes that need to be ticked.

After the marvelous welcome he received at the Madison Square Garden in <keyword id="6355838" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-York">New York</keyword> by thousands of Indians, Indian <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> Narendra Modi experienced those very moments again, but this time at Allphones Arena in <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword>. 
 
Addressing a 20,000-strong crowd at the Allphones Arena, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke for nearly an hour-and-half, striking chords with all right notes and had the crowd cheering him for more. 
 
His visit, which was a maiden one for him after he became the Prime Minister in May this year, was also a first visit by any Indian Prime Minister in the last 28 years. In his trademark speech, which was laced with emotional quotes, he promised: Indians living in Australia need not wait for so long to be visited by their Indian premiers.

Attributing this welcome to the 1.25 billion people in India, Modi said he was just their representative and truly, not the sole owner of this gesture. 
 
Remembering Swami Vivekananda on the occasion, Modi quoted the ‘sanyasi’ who had given a clarion call a good five decades before independence that the Indians needed to focus on the country and worship ‘Bharat Mata’ over numerous gods and goddesses they could have believed in. 
 
Being a person who was born few years into independence, Modi said many like him were fortunate to be born in a free India. But, it also meant some patriots didn’t get to take part in the freedom movement. “Not everybody had the good fortune of fighting for the country and laying down their lives for the nation. Yes, we couldn’t die for the country. But, we can at least live to serve our motherland!” he said, eliciting thunderous applauses from the spectators. 
 
Stressing on the need for strengthened partnerships between Australia and India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said both countries have equal passion divested in sports and politics. “Both are cricket-obsessed and both nations are democracies. History and culture have fostered this strong relationship between the two countries,” he observed. 
 Striking an emotional note that could go a long way, Modi said: “Indian-origin sportsperson Bakthawar Singh represented Australia. <keyword id="2602475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eric-Pierce">Eric Pierce</keyword> was born in Indian town of Jabalpur, Australian cricket enthusiast <keyword id="783019" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stuart-Clarke">Stuart Clarke</keyword> is an Anglo-Indian,” he went on to recollect Indo-Australian names who had carved a niche for themselves in sports, politics, academics and social work—those who were born in either of the nations and had created a name for themselves in the other. 
 
Speaking of his dreams for a poor man, and also those who aspired to see their country rise, Modi touched the crowd exactly where it mattered. “This year, every Indian living either in India or abroad was curious to know about the outcome of the election. This is not about Modi, but about the country they have been waiting to see it rise from the rubbles. A rich man and a poor man, both want to see the country achieve a better status in this world,” he added. 
 
He said he had very small deeds to carry out. “I want to see the last man in the country arrive at a bank and access whatever financial freedom the country can provide him with. So, I started Jan Dhan Yojana, though financial experts said it may take three years to completely implement it. We either do it today or never – I told them. And, listen to a Prime Minister, they did!” he revealed. While India had managed to open 10 million bank accounts every year through six decades of independence, with Jan Dhan Yojana, a whopping 71 million bank accounts were opened in a matter of 10 weeks! 
 
The message went down very well with the crowd, which continued to cheer him on. The ‘Modi’ they had come to see was a ‘doer’ and not someone who only ‘hoped’ to see things happen. The stupendous response not only came from people of all age groups, but a considerable number of Australians too, who had come to witness the Modi Magic. 
 
His message on cleaner India had some effect on the young turks in Australia, whom Modi promised a great ‘work’ atmosphere should they come to work in India. With the policy changes he is trying to bring, he said, it should be a matter of time before India is a destination for new economy.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his first visit to <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword> after having assumed the office, one of the major expectations from Indian diaspora everywhere is, to see him repeat the Madison Sqaure magic that came about during his visit to New York few weeks ago. 
 
And why not! Modi was supported by diaspora in Australia to the hilt during his run up to the race of Prime Minister’s office, almost as much as the Indians living in the US did. 
 
The preparation seems to be very inclusive too. He has created a dedicated Internet page for all people to list out their expectations from this visit. He tweeted a few days ago saying: “I want to hear ideas and thoughts from all of you, including friends in Australia and the Indian community there on my visit.” 
 
When he lands on the Australian soil in November, Modi will address a joint sitting of federal parliament of Australia. 
 
He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to have done so in the last 28 years. The last visit was by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1986. Since then, though India and Australia share a very close bond, no Indian premiers visited the country to take the bilateral relations further. 
 
His visit to Australia will be to participate in G20 summit scheduled to be held in Brisbane, but his visit itself is a singular event that will provide major boost and create synergies that will take the close relationship between the nations to the next level. 
 After participating in the G20 summit, Modi will proceed to Canberra to hold a bilateral meeting with Australian counterpart <keyword id="201673" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tony-Abbott">Tony Abbott</keyword>. This will be the second significant meeting of the leaders after Abbott visited India last month. During this visit, the two countries entered into a civil nuclear cooperation agreement. 
 
With a prelude like this, the visit is more significant than the excitement that is built around the event. Though Indian Australian community organisations are planning to use this visit to build more solidarity within communities in Syndey, and Melbourne using the famous Olympic Grounds, Modi’s speech will probably be broadcast from the historical Melbourne Cricket Grounds. 
 
As the enthusiasm levels go up on this visit, it is also a rather noteworthy aspect that Australia is shaping up as India’s most important international partners. Australia is increasingly becoming a significant source of India’s energy needs. With the nuclear agreement being firmly in place, India will certainly be very focused on completing the administrative agreements and begin the groundwork for implementation of those. 
 
This can be termed as the event of solidarity since Australia is the current chair for both Indian Ocean Regional Association and Indian Ocean Naval Symposium. Coincidentally, both nations are looking forward to working together on security—especially around the Indian Ocean region. 
 
However, what remains to be seen is whether the Indian Prime Minister will be able to provide any succor to the Indians living in Australia, who have been subject to racial abuse on several instances. The issue will probably resonate during the Prime Minister’s meeting with the diaspora. 
 
Before landing in Australia Modi who soon aims to be a global states man, will also visit Myanmar to discuss a host of security issues. All along this trip, Modi would be sharing stage with regional and world leaders and to brainstorm on pressing security needs and global economic issues. 
 
The meetings will have similar, focused and regionally specific agendas with common concerns. Modi’s government has so far been forthright in its views about ensuring security and stability in surrounding nations for mutual benefit.

Modi’s Visit To Australia Will Be About Solidarity

New Delhi, People have reposed their faith in "<keyword id="19699064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="modis-guarantees" source="Orion">Modi's guarantees</keyword>," BJP leaders chimed together on Sunday as the party appeared set on the path of victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh assembly elections. "The election results show people accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guarantee of delivering on guarantees," BJP leader and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said here. Joshi, who was BJP's election-in-charge for Rajasthan, took a dig at the Congress and promises it made in the run up to the elections. "People have blessed BJP in three states, endorsed Prime Minister Modi's leadership and rejected Congress' false promises," Joshi said. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and BJP leader Raman Singh said in Raipur,"People have reposed their trust in Modi's guarantees." Singh said the people have voted in the name of Modi and for his work over the past nine-and-half years. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan -- who is looking at his fifth term -- gave Modi's aggressive campaign ahead of the assembly election the credit for the party's performance. "Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji is in the hearts of the people of Madhya Pradesh. The state is also in the heart of Modi ji. There is immense faith towards him. He held public meetings here and appealed to the people which has touched the people's hearts," Chouhan said in Bhopal. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said it was Modi's belief in taking everyone together that worked for the party. "This victory is of the mantra of 'Sabka saath, sabka vishwas and sabka prayaas' given by Prime Minister Modi. It is the victory of the guarantee given by the Prime Minister. It is also the victory of the strategy given by Amit Shah and the able leadership provided by Nadda ji," she said. "Most importantly, it is a victory for our party workers," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the party's victory as a result of guidance of PM Modi. "Under the leadership and guidance of respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, BJP's hattrick of huge majority in terms election results in three of the four states, is a 'guarantee of people's trust' on the 'guarantee of Modi,'" he wrote on X. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said the victory was an indicator of what is to come in 2024. "The Ghamandiya alliance's arrogance has been shattered. The INDI alliance has neither leaders, nor policy... For 2024, the indication is clear, the world has faith in India and India's leadership. If India progresses, the world will progress," Thakur said. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP manifesto -- 'Modi ki Guarantee 2023' -- promised cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500 to poor families, one lakh government jobs, and a Rs 12,000 annual financial assistance to married women. The BJP had also promised to procure paddy at Rs 3,100 per quintal and an annual assistance of Rs 10,000 to land less farm labourers. Free food grain, income assistance for farmers, housing for all, 100 per cent electrification of villages, and tap water to every home, were listed by the party as some of Modi's guarantees. "All promises made to you will be fulfilled. This is my guarantee," Modi had said addressing a rally in MP last month. During several of rallies he took a dig at the Congress for its set of promises. "Those who do not have any guarantee about themselves are offering guarantees to the people," Modi had said at a rally in MP. "Modi's guarantees begin from where hope from others ends. That is why Modi's guarantees are popular," the prime minister had said on the campaign trail. In Jaipur, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat took a jibe at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, saying people have come out of the spell of the "magician." "The 'magic' has ended and Rajasthan has come out of the spell of the magician. People have voted for the honour of women and for the welfare of the poor," he said. Gehlot was born into a family of magicians and assisted his father during his tours. Congress had unleashed the politics of guarantee during Karnataka assembly elections in May, making five distinct promises to the electorate - monthly cash assistance to women head of families, 200 units of free electricity, unemployment allowance to youth, free food grains, and free travel for women on state transport buses. The party tried to replicate the template in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Rajasthan. Modi turned on the heat on the Congress by projecting himself as a leader who has delivered on the promises made by him to help the common man meet his aspirations. "Modi Yaani Har Guarantee Poori Hone Ki Guarantee (Modi means the guarantee to fulfill every guarantee)," the prime minister had said in an article last week. "'Modi Ki Guarantee' denotes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to the aspirations of the common man. It echoes the resolution of his government to serve the last man standing. It allows us to witness a political phenomenon, hitherto missing, where promises carry meaning and are executed meaningfully," he had said. Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina said, "Today, the Congress headquarters in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are wearing a deserted look. The Congress and National Conference will face the same fate during assembly polls in J-K." The race amongst political parties to offer freebies to the voters triggered a debate on burden on the state exchequer.

Victory of Modi's guarantees, say BJP leaders as party sweeps states states

BAREILLY/REWA: With just days to go for the first phase of <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> polls, BJP's PM pick <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> has scaled up his target to 300 seats and invoked the stability card, saying only a government which has a strong mandate can deliver and command respect. 
 Addressing a rally in Bareilly on Tuesday, Modi said <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> was plotting and praying to ensure that the next government turned out to be a weak one, stressing that a PM can be effective only if he has the backing of 300 or more <keyword id="6355553" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="MP">MP</keyword>s. "300 se jyada MP leke baithe hue PM ki baat duniya bhi theek se sunegi (The world will pay attention to a PM who has more than 300 MPs by his side)," he said. 
 
Modi invoked the stability card when he addressed a rally at Rewa in MP later in the day. Contending that a stable government was essential for development, he said, "No PM will be able to drive if people's mandate translates into a car with only three wheels. It is necessary that a four-wheeled government is selected to scale new heights of development." 
 
The switch from a conservative 272 — the magic figure in the 543-strong Lok Sabha — to an ambitious 300 attracted the attention of many in political circles, and left them wondering about the possible motivation. The last 72 hours have seen Modi casting himself as "future PM", and his setting sights higher on Tuesday could be part of the same strategy to fire up the base and throw the opponents off-balance. 
 
It could also be meant to tap into the anxiety that an unstable government will hurt the prospect of economic recovery — a worry which may lead the fence-sitters to back the frontrunner. 
 
Importantly, considering that "stability" has for long been Congress's theme, Modi's pitch also marked an audacious attempt to snatch the plank from his chief rival. 
 
Speaking in Bareilly, Modi alleged that Congress was "organizing yagnas" to ensure the next government was not a stable one. "They have now gone to the extent of praying that even if their party loses, a strong government does not assume power. The intention of Congress and parties like SP, BSP or Third Front is not to form the government but simply to act as spoilers," he said. 
 
Modi, who arrived at the rally more than two hours behind schedule, began by apologizing to the crowd for the delay, adding that "he would not betray the love shown to him by those who had spent hours waiting in the scorching sun". 
 He sought to make a connect with locals, simultaneously taking a dig at <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> who represents <keyword id="43068" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rae-Bareli">Rae Bareli</keyword>. "Soniaji's constituency may have become famous but Bareilly, which has already been famous through the hit song 'Jhumka gira re', will ensure that Congress, SP, BSP have a mighty fall in these polls," he said as the crowds cheered. 
 
He also played on the date — April 1 — saying "for the Congress government, each of the 365 days in the year is an April Fools' Day". Reiterating that UP has a big role to play – the state will send 80 MPs to Parliament — he ended his speech by again emphasizing on the need for an absolute majority. "Give me 300 seats and I promise you that I will give you a strong government that empowers people," he said.

Chief minister <keyword id="6355031" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akhilesh-Yadav">Akhilesh Yadav</keyword> on Thursday said having a President's rule in his state is not desirable and if needed, he will tie up with <keyword id="6355170" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BSP">BSP</keyword>. 
 In case <keyword id="6354265" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="samajwadi-party">Samajwadi Party</keyword> doesn’t get majority, Akhilesh Yadav told <keyword id="60684" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BBC">BBC</keyword> that it is better to join hands with <keyword id="6357690" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mayawati">Mayawati</keyword> than to see the state under Presidents Rule.

His surprising remarks right when exit poll predicted BJP could win with majority in the state. While some of the survey predicted BJP emerging as the single largest party in UP, other gave them a clean majority. 
 Despite <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> alliance with the ruling Samajwadi Party, the alliance seems to have failed in gaining desirable results. 
 
Notably, Times Now's exit poll gives the BJP a sharp edge, saying it will win between 190 and 210 seats in Uttar Pradesh; 201 seats will obviously give the BJP a majority. Times Now expects the SP-Congress alliance to win between 110 and 130 seats, while the BSP may get anywhere between 54 and 74 seats, it says. 
 
VMR's exit poll predicts as many as 200 seats for the BJP, 120 for the SP-Congress alliance and 64 for the BSP.
