To fulfil the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword>, the government has set up a panel that would prepare a blueprint for doubling farmers' income by 2022. 
 
"The committee will chalk out a plan to shift farm policies from being production-oriented to based on incomes," a senior Agriculture Ministry official said. 
 
The panel would comprise of eight members from different ministries headed by Ashok Dalwai, Additional Secretary at the Agriculture Ministry, and will identify potential areas where agriculture would need more investment, while also suggesting ways to reduce farming risks. 
 
The panel is expected to submit the report in two months, during which it will also look at reducing cultivation costs and addressing weather unpredictability and price fluctuations. 
 
"The government is focusing not only on increasing crop yields but also on reducing the cost of cultivation to increase the net income of farmers. The schemes on soil health card, neem-coated urea and per drop more crop, are aimed at bringing down the cost of cultivation," said the official. 
 
The official also added that the government has decided to set up an electronic National Agriculture Market and implement a new crop insurance scheme.

"The election results show people accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guarantee of delivering on guarantees," BJP leader and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said here. Joshi, who was BJP's election-in-charge for Rajasthan, took a dig at the Congress and promises it made in the run up to the elections. "People have blessed BJP in three states, endorsed Prime Minister Modi's leadership and rejected Congress' false promises," Joshi said. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and BJP leader Raman Singh said in Raipur,"People have reposed their trust in Modi's guarantees." Singh said the people have voted in the name of Modi and for his work over the past nine-and-half years. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan -- who is looking at his fifth term -- gave Modi's aggressive campaign ahead of the assembly election the credit for the party's performance. "Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji is in the hearts of the people of Madhya Pradesh. The state is also in the heart of Modi ji. There is immense faith towards him. He held public meetings here and appealed to the people which has touched the people's hearts," Chouhan said in Bhopal. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said it was Modi's belief in taking everyone together that worked for the party. "This victory is of the mantra of 'Sabka saath, sabka vishwas and sabka prayaas' given by Prime Minister Modi. It is the victory of the guarantee given by the Prime Minister. It is also the victory of the strategy given by Amit Shah and the able leadership provided by Nadda ji," she said. "Most importantly, it is a victory for our party workers," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the party's victory as a result of guidance of PM Modi. "Under the leadership and guidance of respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, BJP's hattrick of huge majority in terms election results in three of the four states, is a 'guarantee of people's trust' on the 'guarantee of Modi,'" he wrote on X. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said the victory was an indicator of what is to come in 2024. "The Ghamandiya alliance's arrogance has been shattered. If India progresses, the world will progress," Thakur said. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP manifesto -- 'Modi ki Guarantee 2023' -- promised cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500 to poor families, one lakh government jobs, and a Rs 12,000 annual financial assistance to married women. The BJP had also promised to procure paddy at Rs 3,100 per quintal and an annual assistance of Rs 10,000 to land less farm labourers. Free food grain, income assistance for farmers, housing for all, 100 per cent electrification of villages, and tap water to every home, were listed by the party as some of Modi's guarantees. "All promises made to you will be fulfilled. This is my guarantee," Modi had said addressing a rally in MP last month. During several of rallies he took a dig at the Congress for its set of promises. "Those who do not have any guarantee about themselves are offering guarantees to the people," Modi had said at a rally in MP. "Modi's guarantees begin from where hope from others ends. That is why Modi's guarantees are popular," the prime minister had said on the campaign trail. In Jaipur, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat took a jibe at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, saying people have come out of the spell of the "magician." "The 'magic' has ended and Rajasthan has come out of the spell of the magician. People have voted for the honour of women and for the welfare of the poor," he said. Gehlot was born into a family of magicians and assisted his father during his tours. Congress had unleashed the politics of guarantee during Karnataka assembly elections in May, making five distinct promises to the electorate - monthly cash assistance to women head of families, 200 units of free electricity, unemployment allowance to youth, free food grains, and free travel for women on state transport buses. The party tried to replicate the template in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Rajasthan. Modi turned on the heat on the Congress by projecting himself as a leader who has delivered on the promises made by him to help the common man meet his aspirations. "Modi Yaani Har Guarantee Poori Hone Ki Guarantee (Modi means the guarantee to fulfill every guarantee)," the prime minister had said in an article last week. "'Modi Ki Guarantee' denotes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to the aspirations of the common man. It echoes the resolution of his government to serve the last man standing. It allows us to witness a political phenomenon, hitherto missing, where promises carry meaning and are executed meaningfully," he had said. Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina said, "Today, the Congress headquarters in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are wearing a deserted look. The Congress and National Conference will face the same fate during assembly polls in J-K." The race amongst political parties to offer freebies to the voters triggered a debate on burden on the state exchequer.

Victory of Modi's guarantees, say BJP leaders as party sweeps states states

Over 400 are so far known to have died in a massive <keyword id="6362774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="earthquake">earthquake</keyword> of 7.9 magnitude which hit large parts of <keyword id="12266" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nepal">Nepal</keyword> on Saturday, the government said. Five people are reported dead so far in Bihar; tremors were felt across large swathes of Northern India including Delhi. 
 "In <keyword id="18568" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="kathmandu">Kathmandu</keyword> 71 have been reported dead so far," Home Ministry spokesman Laxmi Prasad Dhakal told news agency AFP. Another 43 had been reported dead in the nearby Bhaktapur district, he added. 
 
This was the worst earthquake to hit Nepal in 80 years. The capital of Kathmandu has been left devastated by a huge earthquake of 7.9 magnitude which pushed buildings into collapse, turned iconic landmarks into rubble, and left many injured. 
 
At the main hospital in Kathmandu, people with broken limbs and arms were being rushed in for treatment. It was unclear how many people were injured. 
 
The historic Dharara Tower built in the 19th century in Kathmandu collapsed, trapping at least 50 people, Nepal media reported. The tower had been open to visitors for the last 10 years and had a viewing balcony on its eighth floor. Witnesses spoke of dead bodies being removed from the site. 
 
Photographs from Kathmandu posted online showed buildings left in rubble, large cracks along roads and residents sitting in the street holding babies. 
 Mountaineer Alex Gavan tweeted from Mount Pumori, about 8 km west of <keyword id="14834" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mount-Everest">Mount Everest</keyword>, that the quake had caused an avalanche on Everest. 
 
"Everest base camp huge earthquake then huge avalanche from pumori. Running for life from my tent. Unhurt. Many many people up the mountain," tweeted Gavan.

As per the latest statistics of the ministry of housing and urban poverty alleviation, 14 lakh low-cost houses were sanctioned under these two major schemes, out of which only 8 lakh were built. Of this 8 lakh houses, 2.45 lakh houses are still to find residents. 
 Both the housing schemes were merged to launch the <keyword id="2910604" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pradhan-Mantri-Awas-Yojana">Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana</keyword> under which, the government aims to build 2 crore low-cost houses, including 14 lakh for slum redevelopment dwellings.

As per the employment survey of the labour and employment ministry, the estimated employment in eight sectors including manufacturing, construction, trade, transport, education, health, accommodation and restaurants and IT/ BPO (information technology/business process outsourcing) stands at 20.52 million in the country. Of this, manufacturing is the largest employer with the highest share at 49% followed by education at 24%. Construction accounts for the least at 1.79% and transport has a 2.8% share.

Three years in power, Modi goes after states to create jobs to fulfill promise

After the marvelous welcome he received at the Madison Square Garden in <keyword id="6355838" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-York">New York</keyword> by thousands of Indians, Indian <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> Narendra Modi experienced those very moments again, but this time at Allphones Arena in <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword>. 
 
Addressing a 20,000-strong crowd at the Allphones Arena, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke for nearly an hour-and-half, striking chords with all right notes and had the crowd cheering him for more. 
 
His visit, which was a maiden one for him after he became the Prime Minister in May this year, was also a first visit by any Indian Prime Minister in the last 28 years. In his trademark speech, which was laced with emotional quotes, he promised: Indians living in Australia need not wait for so long to be visited by their Indian premiers. 
 
The rockstar welcome he received was no less than the Madison Square Garden one. Here too, Modi’s speech had the larger-than-life impact, complete with showmanship on a stage lit with psychedelic lights. 
 
His body language was astoundingly commanding and humble at the same time. While he started his speech in English, he was egged on by supporters to switch over to Hindi. And he conceded to it, topped with a generous dollop of a charming smile! 
 
Attributing this welcome to the 1.25 billion people in India, Modi said he was just their representative and truly, not the sole owner of this gesture. 
 
Remembering Swami Vivekananda on the occasion, Modi quoted the ‘sanyasi’ who had given a clarion call a good five decades before independence that the Indians needed to focus on the country and worship ‘Bharat Mata’ over numerous gods and goddesses they could have believed in. 
 
Being a person who was born few years into independence, Modi said many like him were fortunate to be born in a free India. But, it also meant some patriots didn’t get to take part in the freedom movement. “Not everybody had the good fortune of fighting for the country and laying down their lives for the nation. Yes, we couldn’t die for the country. But, we can at least live to serve our motherland!” he said, eliciting thunderous applauses from the spectators. 
 
Stressing on the need for strengthened partnerships between Australia and India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said both countries have equal passion divested in sports and politics. “Both are cricket-obsessed and both nations are democracies. History and culture have fostered this strong relationship between the two countries,” he observed. 
 Striking an emotional note that could go a long way, Modi said: “Indian-origin sportsperson Bakthawar Singh represented Australia. <keyword id="2602475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eric-Pierce">Eric Pierce</keyword> was born in Indian town of Jabalpur, Australian cricket enthusiast <keyword id="783019" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stuart-Clarke">Stuart Clarke</keyword> is an Anglo-Indian,” he went on to recollect Indo-Australian names who had carved a niche for themselves in sports, politics, academics and social work—those who were born in either of the nations and had created a name for themselves in the other. 
 
Speaking of his dreams for a poor man, and also those who aspired to see their country rise, Modi touched the crowd exactly where it mattered. “This year, every Indian living either in India or abroad was curious to know about the outcome of the election. This is not about Modi, but about the country they have been waiting to see it rise from the rubbles. A rich man and a poor man, both want to see the country achieve a better status in this world,” he added. 
 
He said he had very small deeds to carry out. “I want to see the last man in the country arrive at a bank and access whatever financial freedom the country can provide him with. So, I started Jan Dhan Yojana, though financial experts said it may take three years to completely implement it. We either do it today or never – I told them. And, listen to a Prime Minister, they did!” he revealed. While India had managed to open 10 million bank accounts every year through six decades of independence, with Jan Dhan Yojana, a whopping 71 million bank accounts were opened in a matter of 10 weeks! 
 
The message went down very well with the crowd, which continued to cheer him on. The ‘Modi’ they had come to see was a ‘doer’ and not someone who only ‘hoped’ to see things happen. The stupendous response not only came from people of all age groups, but a considerable number of Australians too, who had come to witness the Modi Magic. 
 
His message on cleaner India had some effect on the young turks in Australia, whom Modi promised a great ‘work’ atmosphere should they come to work in India. With the policy changes he is trying to bring, he said, it should be a matter of time before India is a destination for new economy.

Inflation is at its peak. Nothing has been done for the farmers and the youth," he said, addressing a roadside meeting at Nigoha village here. 
 
The Congress vice-president said that during the Lok Sabha election campaign, Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every person's account after bringing back the black money stashed away abroad. "Has it been deposited," he asked on a sarcastic note. 
 Gandhi said his party would strongly fight the <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> and its communal and divisive policies across the country. 
 
Promising to carry on development work in his Lok Sabha constituency, Gandhi said, "We will complete the development works in Amethi. We will fight unitedly as a single person cannot struggle."
