Hard questions by the Opposition, prompt answers by the Prime Minister." "It is not important who prevailed in the debate. What is important is that a debate took place in Parliament within hours of the Prime Minister's return to Britain. How I wish such a debate took place in India's Parliament. Such questions and answers were normal in Parliament when Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister," the former Union minister said. His remarks came after Sunak returned to the UK after attending the G20 Summit in India and answered the questions of opposition leaders. The Congress has been critical of the Modi government over not allowing debates in Parliament over important issues. The Congress has on previous occasions accused the government of not allowing the opposition members to speak in Parliament on several pressing issues.

The plaque in front of PM Modi at the G20 Summit said "Bharat". "India's G20 presidency has become a symbol of inclusion, of 'sabka saath' both inside and outside the country. This has become People's G20 in India. Crores of Indians are connected to this. In more than 60 cities of the country, more than 200 meetings have taken place. With the sense of 'Sabka Saath', India had proposed that the <keyword id="148491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="african-union" source="Orion">African Union</keyword> be granted permanent membership of G20. I believe that all of us agree to this proposal," he said. PM Modi also invited the head of the African Union to take his seat as a member of the G20. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar accompanied the President of the Union of Comoros and Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Azali Assoumas he took his seat among world leaders. "With everyone's approval, I request the African Union Chairperson to take his seat as a permanent G20 member," PM Modi said. African Union's inclusion in G20 was among India's key priorities in the G20 summit under its presidency. African Union's inclusion in G20 grouping was proposed by PM Modi in June this year. At the beginning of his speech, PM Modi expressed his condolences over the loss of lives due to an earthquake in Morocco. "Before we start the proceedings of G20, I want to express my condolences over the loss of lives due to an earthquake in Morocco. We pray that all injured recover at the earliest. India is ready to offer all possible assistance to Morocco in this difficult time." PM Modi noted that the world has faced a new challenge of trust deficit after the COVID-19. He referred to conflict between Ukraine and Russia and said the war had deepened the trust deficit further. "If we can defeat a pandemic like COVID, we can also win over the challenge of this trust deficit. Today, as the President of the G20, India calls upon the entire world to transform this global trust deficit into trust and confidence. This is the time for all of us to move together," he said. "In this time, the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas' can be the torch bearer for us. India proposes G20 satellite for climate observation

UK Prime Minister <keyword id="221875" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rishi-sunak" source="Orion">Rishi Sunak</keyword> said the G20 leaders came together for the first time 15 years ago to restore global growth after the financial crisis. "We (now) meet at a time of enormous challenges -- the world is looking to the G20 once again to provide leadership. Together I believe we can address these challenges," he said. Brazilian President <keyword id="12083056" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="luiz-inacio" source="Orion">Luiz Inacio</keyword> Lula da Silva said during his country's G20 presidency, it will launch a Task Force for Global Mobilisation against Climate Change. "We want to reach COP 30, in 2025, with a climate agenda balanced between mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage and financing, ensuring the sustainability of the planet and the dignity of people," he said. Developing economies, he said, are bearing the brunt of climate change, despite carrying the least responsibility for this crisis. "As African and other developing economy countries, we face the task of meeting our climate commitments in the midst of significant developmental challenges like poverty, inequality and unemployment," he observed. Climate change, environmental degradation, unsustainable consumption and production and resource scarcity are challenges that can only be addressed collectively and with a great deal of solidarity, he felt. "South Africa calls for an enhanced and expanded global partnership for Sustainable Development," he said. "This must be supported by the concrete policies and actions outlined in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development," he asserted. G20 leaders call for sustainable growth, addressing climate challenge

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said that the UK government remains committed to working "as quickly as possible" towards a successful conclusion to the ongoing free trade agreement (<keyword id="6381659" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fta" source="Orion">FTA</keyword>) talks with <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, as the majority of the substantive negotiation conversations were completed at the end of last month. At a House of Commons session on the G20 Summit in Indonesia on Thursday, the British Indian leader updated <keyword id="6354721" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="parliament" source="Orion">Parliament</keyword> that he reviewed progress on the FTA during his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi since taking charge at 10 Downing Street. Sunak was questioned about his other discussions with Modi and whether he raised issues such as India's stance over the Russia-Ukraine conflict and also the UK being an exception within Europe to not be offered the e-visa facility - something he confirmed was discussed and will remain on the government's agenda. On India's "non-aligned" position on the Ukraine conflict, he claimed "enormous comfort" from the fact that the G20 communique "contained strong language of condemnation about Russia's aggression". "Our relationship and partnership with India are much broader than just a trading relationship. I was pleased to discuss increasing our security cooperation with India," said Sunak. "We also announced the mobility scheme to enable young people from India to come here and young Brits to go there, which is a sign of what is possible. Such exchanges are positive both for our countries and for the young people who benefit," he said, with reference to the new UK-India Young Professionals Scheme launched at the summit earlier this week involving 3,000 new reciprocal visa offers annually for under-30s - dubbed as "good for both Indian students and British students who want to go back and forth". Rishi Sunak says UK is committed to working quickly on free trade agreement with India

Speaking at the G20 Summit session on 'One Earth', Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> also proposed launching the 'G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation' and urged leaders to commence work on the 'Green Credit Initiative'. "Today, the need of the hour is that all countries should work together in the field of fuel blending. Our proposal is to take an initiative at a global-level to take ethanol blending in petrol up to 20 per cent," he said. "Or alternatively, we could work on developing another blending mix for the greater global good, one that ensures a stable energy supply while also contributing to climate security," Modi said at the session attended by US President Joe Biden, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak among others. The prime minister said energy transition is a significant need of the 21st century world considering the challenge of climate change. He said trillions of dollars are required for an inclusive energy transition and that the developed countries play a very crucial role in this. "Along with India, all the countries of the Global South are pleased that developed countries have taken a positive initiative this year, in 2023. Developed countries have expressed their willingness to fulfil their commitment of USD 100 billion for climate finance for the first time," he said. At the Copenhagen UN climate talks in 2009, developed countries had committed to providing USD 100 billion per year by 2020 to support developing countries in combating climate change. However, the wealthier nations failed repeatedly to fulfil this commitment. The Global Biofuels Alliance, which the world's third biggest oil consumer wants to push during its G20 presidency, mirrors the <keyword id="3155010" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="international-solar-alliance" source="Orion">International Solar Alliance</keyword> (ISA) piloted by New Delhi and Paris in 2015 to bring clean and affordable solar energy within the reach of all. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an exclusive interview told PTI that India's proposal for a global alliance on biofuels among members of the Group of 20 major economies would help accelerate sustainable biofuels deployment in support of the global energy transition. "Such alliances are aimed at creating options for developing countries to advance their energy transitions," he had said. "Biofuels are also important from the perspective of a circular economy. India, which imports over 85 per cent of its crude oil needs, is gradually building capacity to produce fuel from such items as crop stubble, plant waste, and municipal solid waste. While India is on schedule to double the mixing of ethanol extracted from sugarcane and agriculture waste to 20 per cent with petrol by 2025, it is also setting up dozens of compressed biogas (CBG) plants. The Global Biofuels Alliance is aimed at facilitating cooperation and intensifying the use of sustainable biofuels across sectors, including transportation. Its focus is primarily on strengthening markets, facilitating global biofuel trade, developing concrete policy lesson-sharing and providing technical support for national biofuel programmes worldwide. Such an initiative is also aimed at helping India's transition to alternative fuels and cutting its import bill, as it seeks to achieve its net zero carbon emissions goal by 2070. On the other hand, the ISA aims to mobilise more than USD 1,000 billion of investment needed by 2030 for the massive deployment of solar energy. The <keyword id="69313" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="international-energy-agency" source="Orion">International Energy Agency</keyword> (IEA) estimates that global sustainable biofuel production would need to triple by 2030 to put the world's energy system on track towards net zero emissions by 2050. Liquid biofuels provided more than 4 per cent of the total transport energy supply in 2022.
