"It's an interactive process that's repeated a thousand times a second," Metz said.This process takes place in rehabilitation hospitals and walking centers across the US, Europe, and Brazil under the guidance of medical professionals. The tech was the result of Clode's quest to "design something that could be an extension of the body, accessible to everyone."<h2 id="91e6fa93-4c34-4672-9b64-06447b95f8f9">The road to accessibility</h2>While there are small-scale examples of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-does-a-personal-assistant-robot-cost-roomba-humanoid-2023-12">assistive robots</a> offering help in the house, technologies like robotic exoskeletons, limbs, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.gla.ac.uk/news/headline_1043333_en.html">guide dogs</a> have a long way to go before they become widespread.In the meantime, researchers like Short and product testers like Klang work alongside engineers to ensure that marginalized people are factored into the development process.Klang said it's crucial that product-development teams "listen to and incorporate the insights of people with disabilities" as early in the process as possible. "We know what works for us and what doesn't," she added, describing it as "deeply frustrating" when products claim to be accessible but fall short.Assistive technologies can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's a problem for many Americans with disabilities, whom the National Disability Institute has found are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nationaldisabilityinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/disability-race-poverty-in-america.pdf">more likely than their able-bodied counterparts to live below the poverty line</a>.Short said she's confident that prices will decrease. "It's still not accessible to most people," she said, "but it's an improvement."Still, Short told BI she considers most robots to be decades away from reaching the American home.Short said she urges tech developers to consider "nonnormative users," or people who aren't able-bodied. "This is an incredible piece of assistive technology, but it wasn't invented for disabled people," she said. According to the report, nearly 80 per cent of financial institutions have seen an increase in cashless transactions over the past two years. This change has been accelerated by the pandemic, with many consumers opting for digital payments to avoid handling cash. About 60 per cent of these institutions noted that the volume of cashless transactions has surged by more than 20 per cent. Cashless payments aren't a new concept--personal checks and credit cards have been around for decades. However, today's digital payments, whether made through a smartphone, laptop, or tablet, are quickly becoming the standard. The convenience and safety of these transactions, especially in a post-pandemic world, have made them more popular than ever. However, only about a quarter of financial institutions are currently using hyperpersonalization to gain a competitive advantage. Most banks are now using data analysis to improve customer experiences, guide decision-making, and reduce development time and costs. 78 pc of consumers choose digital banking over cash transactions

The Bengaluru-based firm said its total expenses during the first quarter grew to Rs 1,849 crore compared with Rs 1,461 crore in the June quarter of FY24. The company made its market debut earlier this month. The company in a statement said its automotive segment (E2W) posted a strong improvement in EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) margin and is close to EBITDA breakeven. The quarter witnessed the highest-ever deliveries of vehicles by the company at 1,25,198 units as against 70,575 units delivered in the same period last year, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword> Mobility said. The company also said it ramped up deliveries of its mass-market scooter portfolio (S1 X portfolio) during the quarter which helped accelerate the growth, adding that the existing product portfolio also saw strong demand which continued growth momentum throughout the quarter. According to Ola, the increasing scale of operations has benefited the company in the form of lower manufacturing costs and supply chain optimization. These benefits of scale are further amplified by the company's scalable platform-based product development and manufacturing technology that results in high degrees of commonality across its products, it said. "We have already been successful in accelerating the EV adoption in the scooter segment, and with our futuristic portfolio of products, we are now focused on supercharging the EV penetration through our motorcycles," he said. Aggarwal also said Ola's indigenously developed 'Bharat 4680' cell and battery pack will be integrated with its own vehicles starting in the first quarter of FY26. The company so showcased its all-new Gen-3 platform for two-wheelers. "Coupled with the integration of our cells in our vehicles starting early next year, we are determined to chart a new course for mass EV adoption across India," Aggarwal added.

The electric cars, based on the Avinya concept, will now be developed on JLR's Electrified Modular Architecture in exchange for a royalty fee, according to the press release issued on Thursday. "Avinya stands for 'Innovation' and represents our vision for a new paradigm in personal mobility. Being built on an architecture that is equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, Avinya will spawn a new breed of world-class EVs, with global standards in efficiency and range. We are delighted to collaborate on the EMA platform with JLR for actualizing this vision," Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head HV Programmes, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Its clients include Microsoft, education institutions such as the University of Alberta, and healthcare companies like Medtronic.Business Insider spoke with Treeview's founder, Horacio Torrendell, to learn more about how business and enterprise clients are leveraging AR and VR hardware for XR applications.The following has been edited for length and clarity.How'd you get into this line of work?Treeview started around 2015 when I got an Oculus DK2 for university. I began doing freelance work with the hardware when there were very few VR developers in South America. I found some clients, started growing, and started to build a team. We did a lot of work with startups from 2017 to 2020. Now we're focusing on enterprise clients.What's your take on the arc of the AR/VR industry's journey so far?I see it more as steps than an arc. It's all generation-based, with new hardware opening up new use cases.We started with PC VR for tinkering and exploration, then mobile VR like Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard. Next came stand-alone VR and mobile AR, where we did a lot of work with startups on projects similar to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/5g-help-retailers-shopping-augmented-reality-2019-8">Ikea Place</a> and construction tools. Now we're entering the mixed-reality generation with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/using-apple-vision-pro-for-the-day-productivity-2024-2">Vision Pro</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-virtual-reality">Meta Quest</a>.Each step brings initial confusion as people figure out how to use the new technology, so I think of it as a staircase. Every time there's a new step up, there's a period of adjustment. We're at the start of the mixed-reality generation, and people are still figuring out what they can do with it. I expect we'll see much more mature use cases in the next year or two as the current technology paradigm settles.What kind of problems are companies coming to you with now?Our main focus for the last three years has been training and education. There's a huge demand in this area, but it's challenging to scale because building a high-quality training simulator requires a lot of effort.We're excited about the emerging trend of merging AI with XR. Currently, AI is primarily a back-end, server-side concept that people interact with through text prompting. What's really interesting now is exploring how we can interact with AI through different computing interfaces, particularly immersive ones.Can you help me visualize how AI is being integrated into a training experience?One project we're working on with Microsoft is part of what they call the industrial metaverse. It's mainly around <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-digital-twin-technology-can-transform-archeological-research-2024-8">digital twins</a>, which are digital replicas of physical locations with data overlaid onto that information. We're working on one of the largest <a target="_blank" href="https://treeview.studio/digitaltwin">renewable-energy-production sites in Uruguay</a>.We have a bunch of data and a real-life location, and we want to interact with that data. The way we're thinking of this is, how do you query that information? We have data that doesn't make sense without the context of the location, which is this actual wind farm.Previously, you might filter that information by time stamps or ask specific questions with a predefined user interface. But we're exploring how to have a conversation with that data through an AI model that's trained on top of that data and large language models.It's opening the possibility of having a conversation with a computer about a piece of content that is a physical representation of a physical place with data on top of that place.<div type="image" title="Horacio Torrendell wears virtual-reality glasses while showcasing a digital-twin simulation of wind farms in Uruguay" height="724" width="1086" msid="112689893" hostid="261" sizebytes="52052"></div>What sort of hardware platforms do you target on a project like this?This project targets Microsoft HoloLens 2, mobile with AR capabilities, and the standard web. We have to remember that XR is just one component in a larger set of software solutions. It's crucial to vertically integrate these technologies based on how you're interacting with the data.Having stakeholders around a table with HoloLens, discussing data on-site in a real environment, would be the highest tier of experience. But there's still value in having a website with a 3D model that you can browse and interact with through chat prompts.Let's zoom out a bit and talk about your workflow when starting a new project. How do you begin to scope out what a project is going to be?We call that the discovery phase. It's about trying to understand what the client or the use case is about, not just receiving a list of requirements. It's a brainstorm that we have with clients.For many of these corporations, there's value in deploying a solution. But there's also a lot of value in the innovation approach, in knowing exactly what's going on with this technology, exploring it, and doing some internal tinkering.What's the scale of what you're normally building in terms of distribution?With business-to-business projects, there is not a massive distribution. There are specific use cases and internal tools rather than customer-facing applications. However, we do have some clients, especially on the startup side, who have done more massive rollouts.For context, we recently launched a free educational app for Apple Vision Pro. The project is called <a target="_blank" href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/inviewer/id6479699008">Inviewer</a>, and it's like a Wikipedia of interactive spatial content. This app is featured in the education category of the app store, which is pretty cool. After four weeks, it had about 2,600 users.Are companies looking to hit certain metrics, like reducing time or improving knowledge?One of our largest clients is a startup that's a leader in employee training, though I can't name it due to nondisclosure agreements. What I can say is that some companies are training employees for specific tasks, like installing an electric circuit.There's also huge demand in the market for institutions to provide context to, say, students about what they can do, especially for professional or technical careers. They want to get a feel for what it's like to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/solar-careers-in-demand-workforce-shortage-2024-7">install solar panels</a>, for example.These kinds of applications address a real need in the market. They help people understand career options they might not have known existed.You mentioned you developed for the Apple Vision Pro. How are the latest headsets, like the Vision Pro, changing what you can achieve?Apple brought the whole <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-eye-tracking-accessibility-control-iphone-ipad-2024-5">concept of eye gazing</a>, the concept of prioritizing windows, and the fact that those windows can be expanded. That's a lot of new paradigms in the user-interface experience that Apple brought to the table, and it's been amazing.

The founder of a software-development company says there's a 'huge demand' for training and education applications — extended reality can help

New Delhi, <keyword id="20643931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tvs-mobility" source="keywords">TVS Mobility</keyword> on Monday said it has formed a joint venture with the Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Corporation to establish a comprehensive vehicle mobility ecosystem in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>. As part of the collaboration, Mitsubishi Corporation will initially invest Rs 300 crore with both parties committed to support the growth of the joint venture. This investment is intended to propel both the parties' vision in relation to vehicle ownership in passenger cars, commercial vehicles and material handling equipment (MHE), <keyword id="20036540" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tvs" source="keywords">TVS</keyword> Mobility said in a statement. The business model will have the potential to achieve USD 2 billion revenue in the next 3-5 years' time, it added. With this, the dealership business of TVS Mobility will transform into TVS Vehicle Mobility Solution (TVS VMS) offering a complete portfolio of services to its customers. "TVS Mobility, had pioneered the sales, service and distribution of vehicles market through its dealership business in India. This collaboration with MC will enable TVS to provide a range of solutions to the entire vehicle mobility ecosystem," TVS Mobility Director R Dinesh said. After providing integrated and digital platforms for the independent aftermarket, the vehicle mobility business will provide digitally-enabled solutions to customers, be it enterprises, corporates or fleet owners, he added. The partners would also expand partnership with vehicle manufacturers to provide integrated solutions across vehicle sales, operating of vehicles and Vehicle-as-a-Service solutions, Dinesh said. To gain a downstream foothold in the rapidly growing Indian market, Mitsubishi Corporation has been fostering its relationship with TVS Mobility group including the investment in the after-sales services provider TVS Automobile Solutions (TASL), Mitsubishi Corporation CEO of Automotive and Mobility Group <keyword id="20643932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shigeru-wakabayashi" source="keywords">Shigeru Wakabayashi</keyword> said. "The latest investment in the multi-brand dealer TVS VMS widens company's investment coverage through enhanced service capabilities even further and should propel its aim to develop comprehensive mobility solutions spanning not only after-sales services and multi-brand sales, but also vehicle-as-a-service model, and other automotive operations," he added. TVS Mobility forms JV with Mitsubishi Corp for comprehensive vehicle mobility ecosystem in India

Hyundai will spend 2 trillion won ($1.51 billion) to build the 548,000-square-meter <keyword id="186291" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ev" source="Orion">EV</keyword> factory in Ulsan, some 300 kms southeast of Seoul. When completed, it will be Hyundai's first domestic <keyword id="6362048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing" source="Orion">manufacturing</keyword> plant in 29 years since its Asan plant, built in 1996. The ceremony, held at the EV plant site, a former test drive site inside Hyundai's larger Ulsan plant, was attended by Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Ulsan Mayor Ki Du-kyum, reports Yonhap news agency. According to Hyundai, the envisioned facility will be operated through the company's innovative manufacturing <keyword id="49973" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="platform" source="Orion">platform</keyword> developed by the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in <keyword id="6356662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="singapore" source="Orion">Singapore</keyword>, the company's smart urban mobility hub. The platform factors in and streamlines elements involving workers' safety, convenience and efficient operations. It utilizes an artificial intelligence-based intelligent control system and environmentally friendly, low-carbon production methods. "The dedicated EV plant marks another beginning towards the era of electrification for the next 50 years," Chung said in his welcome remarks at the ceremony. Chung also pledged for Hyundai to work together with the local government to make Ulsan a "pioneering innovative mobility city," leading the era of electrification. Hyundai has previously announced a medium- to long-term goal of producing and selling 940,000 EV units by 2026 and 2 million units by 2030. After the event, Chung hinted that Hyundai intends to continue investing in the EV business despite recent cost-cutting efforts among global competitors, such as GM and Ford. "It's an investment we've been making, and while there are various methods, such as cost reduction, in the broader picture, the demand for EVs will inevitably continue to increase," Chung told reporters. Also featured at the ceremony was a video highlighting the history of Hyundai's Ulsan plant. In it, the late Chung Ju-yung, founder of Hyundai, whose image and voice were recreated using artificial intelligence technology, was seen praising the abilities of South Korean engineers. "Thanks to the outstanding abilities and dedication of these individuals, I am confident that the day is not far off when Korean cars, our cars, will dominate the global market," the late founder was portrayed as saying.
