<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11893449" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="pakistan" source="Orion">Pakistan</keyword> Prime Minister <keyword id="11995831" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="imran-khan" source="Orion">Imran Khan</keyword> was reportedly going to lose a no-confidence vote in parliament on Sunday. </li><li>Instead, Khan asked the president to dissolve the country's parliament, The Associated Press reported.</li></ul><p>Pakistan's President Arif Alvi on Sunday dissolved the law-making chamber of the country's national assembly, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/pakistan-religion-ad929acf523850fdb63a5b6dd960f1d2">The Associated Press</a> reported. </p><p>Alvi dissolved the law-making lower house of Parliament after a plea from Prime Minister Imran Khan, who accused his opposition of working with the US government to overthrow him. </p><p><a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/04/03/1090490181/pakistan-imran-khan-parliament-early-elections"></a>The AP reported that Khan made the request after facing a no-confidence resolution against him. That resolution was likely to pass as 17 members of Khan's own party as well as some coalition partners joined the opposition to remove him as prime minister.</p><p>The opposition would have needed 172 of the 342 votes in Parliament to remove Khan which would allow them to be a part of forming an interim government ahead of elections, The AP reported. </p><p>Deputy speaker, Qasim Khan Suri, had rejected the opposition's motion for the no-confidence vote on Sunday, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/04/03/world/imran-khan-confidence-vote-pakistan">The New York Times</a> reported. </p><p>The AP reported that Suri, an ally of Khan, threw out the motion after Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the opposition was working with a "foreign power" to enact "regime change."</p><p>Suri said Khan was still prime minister and could dissolve parliament.  Khan on Sunday called for a new election, side-stepping the no-confidence vote. </p><p>In a televised speech, Khan defended his actions by alleging that America is conspiring to remove him from office, but did not offer any evidence, The Times reported. </p><p>"Prepare for elections," Khan said. "No corrupt forces will decide what the future of the country will be."</p><p>Asfandyar Mir, a senior expert with the Washington-based U.S. Institute of Peace, told The AP, that Khan's claims that the US is trying to oust him plays on the mistrust some Pakistanis have about the US. </p><p>Opposition groups said Khan had no right to call for the vote, and that he couldn't dissolve parliament. The AP reported that they planned to take the issue to the Supreme Court. The Times reported that the Supreme Court is expected to hear the issue on Monday. </p><p>Mir told the AP that opposition groups, who ranged across a spectrum of ideologies have been trying to unseat Khan since he was elected in 2018. </p><p>The military had been accused of helping Khan, a former Cricket player, win the election, which is something that Mir said undermined Khan. </p><p>"The movement against Imran Khan's government is inseparable from his controversial rise to power in the 2018 election, which was manipulated by the army to push Khan over the line," Mir told the AP. "That really undermined the legitimacy of the electoral exercise and created the grounds for the current turmoil. "</p>

 <br /> Economic Times reported Imran has been starting one company every year for the last 25 years through his applied research lab InCube in San Jose, the 'capital' of <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword>.<br />

Imran, who has studied at All Saints High School in Hyderabad before moving to New Jersey, also holds over 400 US patents and thousands of international patents, and has sold about 15 medical technology companies in his career.<br />
 <br />
"I'm always hunting for big problems to solve," Imran told the financial daily.<br />
 <br />
When asked why he sticks to medical technology, as it is a space clogged with regulatory constraints, Imran said, "I guess I'm a sucker for punishment."<br />
 <br />
He was recently in the limelight for having hit upon the holy grail of drug delivery: a pill which can potentially eliminate the need for painful injections.<br />
 <br /> ET reported that <keyword id="2871427" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rani-Therapeutics">Rani Therapeutics</keyword> has built a mechanism to deliver a drug orally- instead of daily painful injections- for conditions including diabetes and multiple sclerosis. The company, which raised about $25 million (Rs 160 crore) in a round led by Google Ventures and Novartis, has tied up with the latter to test their range of drugs on its pill.<br />
 <br />
Imran's company is bypassing the use of big needles by packing a bunch of small needles in a little capsule. The drugs are carried in sugar needles, which in turn are deceptively hidden in the capsule.<br />
 <br />
"We can embed any biologic drug on our platform," Imran told ET, who named the company Rani Therapeutics after his mother, the one who moulded his engineering skills.<br />
 <br />
Imran has been in the Silicon Valley for the past 30 years, and never held a fascination for practising medicine. Equipped with a biomedical engineering, Imran could not come to terms with the memorising medical terms and diseases all-day long.<br />
 <br />
"For me, trained as an engineer, where most things have clear explanations and are deterministic, this was a big frustration when I was at medical school," he told the financial daily.<br />
 <br />
He dropped out of medical school in his third year, and decided to use his engineering skills to identify and solve medical problems.<br />
 <br />
His earliest contribution dates back to the 1980s where he developed the intellectual property behind the automatic implantable defibrillator, a device implanted in the chest to prevent sudden death from cardiac arrest due to abnormally fast heart rhythms.<br />
 <br />
"I have not met him, but I'm a great admirer. The defibrillator he invented has saved millions of life. .. a great scientist and entrepreneur," said Devi Shetty, chairman and founder, Narayana Health.<br />
 <br />
As for India, Imran says the space has to pick up in terms of innovation, and has not visited in the recent past.<br />
 <br />
"Companies in this field take 8-10 years to mature, and needs about $100-200 million runway before it starts showing results. Indian investors do not have the stomach for it," added Imran.<br />

Pakistan's military has incredible sway in the country and may now feel forced to retaliate against India, its nuclear rival. </li><li><strong>With China closely backing Pakistan and the US supporting India, Pakistan and India's rivalry has long been seen as a potential flash point for a global nuclear conflict.</strong></li></ul><p>Pakistan on Tuesday hinted at a possible nuclear retaliation to Indian airstrikes in its territory, which came as a great embarrassment to Islamabad, where the politically powerful military apparently failed to do anything about an outright attack from its chief rival.</p><p>India bombed Balakot, Pakistan, in response to a terror attack that killed 40 Indian troops in the disputed region of Kashmir, which India and Pakistan both claim but jointly administer.</p><p>"What happened is embarrassing," Asfandyar Mir, a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for <keyword id="6356001" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="international">International</keyword> Security and Cooperation at Stanford University, told Business Insider.</p><p>"The fact that India was able to intrude into Pakistani airspace, not into the disputed region, but into the country, very close to the place where the US raid to kill Osama Bin Laden happened... this is embarrassing for domestic audience," said Mir. </p><p>Pakistan vowed retaliation at a time and place of its choosing, which it said would come as a surprise to India. Gen. In the immediate aftermath of the Indian airstrikes, reports of gunfire across the line of control in Kashmir and fighter jets flying above Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, flooded Twitter.</span></p><p><span>On Facebook and other social media platforms, both Pakistan and India have fielded intensely bloodthirsty online commenters that constantly mock and antagonize the other side. </span></p><p>"The online militias, they are certainly representative of the sentiment on the ground. In many ways, they are also stoking nationalism," said Mir. </p><p>In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist party faces a looming reelection, and in Pakistan, the military faces pressure from young nationalists to look powerful after being caught off guard. </p><p>Mir said that Balakot is close to Abbottabad, the location of the US Navy SEALs raid that killed Osama Bin Laden, which also shamed Pakistan.</p><p>'This is the second time Pakistani air defenses were caught sleeping, at least as known to the Pakistani public," said Mir.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashmir#/media/File:Kashmir_region_2004.jpg">CIA via Wikimedia Commons</a></span></p><p class="caption">Political map of the Kashmir region districts, showing the Pir Panjal range and the Kashmir valley or Vale of Kashmir.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"India is not the US.
