New Delhi, Mar 4 () The skills development ministry will ensure enhanced participation of women in the next phase of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said on Wednesday.The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said his department is organising programmes on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8. "We will give priority to women in the next PMKVY," he told reporters here.He added that the new schemes and programmes to be framed by the ministry will also focus on increasing participation of women.The government is planning to launch third phase of its flagship PMKVY in the next financial year.The scheme, launched in 2015, was revamped in 2016 to impart skills to one crore people by 2020.The minister also appealed to the people to take preventive steps to contain spread of coronavirus. The project -- Capacity Building by MSDE in Microsoft Digital Productivity Skills -- will digitally empower them to provide efficient and effective citizen-centric services to the vulnerable and underprivileged sections of society. "Through this programme, we are aiming to empower central government employees on key digital skills and amplify the vision of Digital India," Ashutosh Chadha, <keyword id="231267" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="group-head" source="Orion">Group Head</keyword> and Director, Government Affairs, Microsoft India "This initiative will not only drive more productivity but will also enable ease of doing business with more digital solutions," Chadha added. Within the project, the training will include job roles such as Section Officers, Assistant Section Officers, Clerks, Upper Division Clerks, Lower Division Clerks, Under Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, and equivalent officers at senior, junior and supporting levels in the central government entities. CBC has undertaken the capacity-building plans for the ministries of Defence, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Expenditure, Finance, Social Justice, Civil Aviation, Ports and Shipping, and Labour. As part of the collaboration, Microsoft will develop an online, self-paced learning course on Microsoft Office 365 digital productivity suite offerings for MSDE, enabling MSDE to provide digital skills training to the officials in central government ministries and departments. The courses will be created under two categories -- Beginners and Advanced courses of 12 hours duration each -- and the learners would be enabled with access to Advanced course after receiving the certificate of completion in the Beginners course. "Our aim is to develop citizen-friendly and business-friendly policies. Microsoft joins hands with MSDE, CBC to train 2.5 mn civil servants in India

India currently faces a shortage of 2.41 million skilled workers in the telecom sector in the 5G era, which is forecast to jump by 3.8 times by 2030, a report showed on Friday. The country will require 22 million skilled workers in 5G-focused industries by 2025, in areas such as cloud computing, robots and the Internet of Things (IoT). One of the key challenges is that only 40 per cent of India's graduates in computer science, IT, and math are employable in the technology sector due to the mismatch between academic requirements and industry demands, according to the report by the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), launched in association with enterprise decision-making platform Draup at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023 here. The number of employed talent in the Indian telecom industry is currently 11.59 million, with 2.95 million corporate talent and 8.24 million blue-collar talent. According to the report, India is the only country expected to have a skilled labour surplus, with 1.3 million workers in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector by 2030. "In anticipation of the upcoming 6G era, our focus remains on aligning our skilling initiatives with cutting-edge technologies, ensuring a workforce ready for the future of telecom," said Atul Tiwari, Secretary, <keyword id="2485309" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-skill-development" source="Orion">Ministry of Skill Development</keyword> and Entrepreneurship. The report, titled '<keyword id="19288877" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="telecom-talent" source="Orion">Telecom Talent</keyword> in 5G Era: Demand Supply Skill Gap Report 2023-24', highlighted that across 15 top streams, network operation and maintenance and project engineering have the most corporate talent, while network operation and maintenance and sales and distribution - service segment have the most blue-collar talent. According to Arvind Bali, CEO, TSSC, the telecom sector is the third-largest industry in India that accounts for roughly 6.5 per cent of all FDI inflow and also by 2027, the country is anticipated to account for 11 per cent of all 5G subscriptions worldwide. "India has a good chance to close the growing demand-supply gap by 2030 with the proper reskilling and hiring strategies that target adjacent talent in tier 2 and 3 cities and university supply," said Bali. With the help of AI, even more powerful 6G network technologies will emerge in the future, the report mentioned.

This record-keeping was set in motion by cabinet secretary PK Sinha. He conducted monthly review meetings that required all central ministers to come together and discuss how the programme was working under them. According to an official who spoke to the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/government-to-soon-launch-national-portal-with-skilling-data/articleshow/64690846.cms">Economic Times</a>, this data collected from the Ministry of <keyword id="6418027" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Skill-Development">Skill Development</keyword>, central ministers, states and corporates will soon be put up on a national portal. The government is expected to launch the first phase of this portal on 15 July. It is being developed by the National Skill Development Corp. (<keyword id="6380206" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="nsdc">NSDC</keyword>) and the World Bank. The portal is expected to have a detailed record of skilled personnel and specific skills across sectors, gender, social and geographical landscapes and will be used to compute the demand and supply of skilled personnel in the market. Currently, the number of skilled personnel that the portal is expected to show when launched is 10 million. However, the number might jump to 15 million once all the stakeholders get on board. The national portal will serve two crucial purposes. First, it will display the total number of skilled personnel on a real-time basis. Second, it will also be conducive in avoiding duplication of data that arises from the lack of a central point of information. This can avoid overlapping entries that makes the government spend double the amount of resources than is actually required. Thus, it will also decrease the wastage of resources. Around 12 million youth enter the India’s workforce every year. However, a considerable section of these youngsters remain unemployed because of inadequate skill sets. Therefore, they need to be upskilled or reskilled to become capable of acquiring a job. And in continuation, upskilling and reskilling will play a significant role in increasing <keyword id="6355127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="employment">employment</keyword>, jobs, income and growth in the country and further the government’s aim to make India the Skill Capital of the world. The data on the portal has a key role to play in all this. The Skill India target was to train 400 million of unskilled people by 2022. However, the flagship is running far behind its target with hardly 40 million trained in four years. Around 10 million entrants are trained every year by the Skill Development ministry (6 million) and other central ministries like agriculture, textile and IT (4 million). If all goes well with the training programs and the portal gets launched on time, it could work in the favour of the current government in this election year.

According to the ET report, Central Staff Training and Research Institute is working on the curriculum for technicians in the <keyword id="381751" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electric-vehicle">electric vehicle</keyword> industry. “A specialised curriculum is being developed to cater to workforce demand from the electric mobility industry,” ET reported citing a senior official familiar with the program. While the Power Sector Skill Council is focussed on four skills — supervisors, technicians and helpers for the e-vehicles segment. The government has included the administrative bodies relevant to the automotive sector. “The plan is to bring all initiatives on one platform to achieve the desired results,” the ministry reportedly said. India’s electric mobility mission expected to originate 10 million jobs: Report

New Delhi, Jan 9 () The skill development ministry is believed to have dropped a proposal by the production team of film 'Chhapaak' to encourage acid attack survivors to do better in life, days after the lead character of the movie Deepika Padukone visited the JNU campus to express solidarity with students who were attacked.
 Sources in the Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship said that as part of regular process under communication and promotional activity for Skill India, the department concerned keeps getting ideas from media houses and organisations to cross-promote each other.
 "The production team had approached Skill India for promoting the subject of the film (Chhapaak)," they said.
 Also, "the actors" from the movie had met some acid attack survivors and specially-abled candidates from "our ecosystem which are also Skill India beneficiaries" inspiring them to do better in life.
 "However, there is no formal engagement with the related party," said a senior official, when asked if the proposal has been dropped.
 On Tuesday evening, Deepika made a surprise visit to the Jawaharlal Nehru University to express solidarity with the students who had been attacked.
 Her decision to stand in silence with JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, who received head injuries during the attack on Sunday evening, at a public meeting in the campus prompted many in the industry and outside to praise her for "quiet grace" and "courage".

Skill ministry not going ahead with 'Chhapaak' team proposal on acid attack victims

NEW DELHI: India could introduce a Vocational Training Act on the lines of the one in China, with the ministry of labour and employment working on the contours of the first of its kind initiative in the country to provide legal framework for the Narendra Modi-led NDA government’s Skill India programme that aims to provide quality training to millions of youths over the next seven years to make them employable. 
 As a large number of youths enter the workforce every year, India needs to improve quality of training so it matches international standards, a <keyword id="209888" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-ministry-official">senior ministry official</keyword> said. 
 
“We are currently studying the law on vocational education in China and plan to come up with our own legislation that will provide a framework for imparting vocational training in the country,” said the official, who did not wish to be named. 
 Countries such as <keyword id="87" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Germany">Germany</keyword> and China have dedicated laws for vocational training and the ministry is studying these to understand how a similar legislation best suited to India can be introduced in the country. “There is an incremental requirement of 347 million skilled manpower in 21 high growth sectors, including manufacturing sector, by the year 2022,” the ministry recently said in a reply to a Parliament question citing a study by the National Skill Development Corporation.

India has the world’s youngest workforce with over 12 million new entrants in the <keyword id="6357125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="labour-market">labour market</keyword> every year but it is short on skills as only 2.5per cent of the employees have any certified ability. 
 
As a result, the country’s demographic dividend has not materialised. The industry is unable to find employable workers, a situation that experts say could lead to socio-economic unrest if the youth remain unemployed and have no avenue for training. 
 
The target is to skill 500 million people by 2022 and the government is largely betting on private players for skill development programmes. 
 Recently, the ministry of labour and employment has signed flexi MOUs (memorandums of understanding) with <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, Flipkart, Raymonds and the <keyword id="2470780" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-Industrial-Power-Company-Ltd">Gujarat Industrial Power Company Ltd</keyword> (GIPCL) that will give companies the flexibility to design training programmes at Industrial Training Institutes in a manner that the youth are skilled according to the specific needs of the industry.

India's Vocational Training Act To Provide Legal Framework For Skill India Programme

ICICI Academy for Skills (IAS) The ICICI Academy for Skills offers training in 11 technical and office skills and the courses are specially crafted for underprivileged youth between the ages of 18 and 30 years. It has trained over 79,000 candidates through its 24 centres free-of-cost. Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) As part of a national programme initiated by the <keyword id="386230" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Rural-Development">Ministry of Rural Development</keyword> (MoRD), ICICI has set up Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) in Udaipur and Jodhpur. This programme focuses on providing free vocational training in locally-relevant skills that empower villagers to be self-reliant. The initiative also promotes entrepreneurship and development of micro-enterprises by providing loans. ICICI RSETIs offer 38 programmes and over 61,000 individuals have been trained at RSETIs. RSETIs offer 2-4 weeks courses for underprivileged rural people in the age group of 18-45 years. ICICI also makes sure that the needs of local employers are mapped to design relevant courses under the rural initiative that are customised to suit the local requirements with a focus on practical execution of skills. All the trainees are additionally oriented on life skills, financial literacy and workplace organisation (Five S) to ensure a holistic learning experience. The ICICI Foundation has tied up with a large number of industry partners to provide employment opportunities to their trainees. The trainees have been placed in over 1000 companies including Eureka Forbes, Daikin, Bluestar among others. Here’s how a free skill training course uplifted a daily-wage worker out of poverty

New Delhi, Feb 18 () Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey on Tuesday held a meeting with states representatives to review skill development activities and sought their suggestions on streamlining the upcoming initiatives, a release said. In a move aimed at increasing the role of states in skill development, it was decided that district skill committees will work closely with the Centre to drive demand-driven training initiatives, it stated. Short-term training courses would be introduced in industrial training institutes (ITIs) in consultation with state skill development missions, the release added. The Union ministry also proposed entrepreneurship development unit in each state which will be anchored with state skilling mission. It also proposed developing mentorship and handholding of existing and new entrepreneurs, through district entrepreneurship incubation lab in existing skilling institutions. The discussions were also held on developing an action plan for better implementation of skilling initiatives under 'Skill India Mission' and for creating employment opportunities for the youth. During the day-long workshop, Vision 2025 was also discussed which lays the ready-to-implement road-map for promoting skill development and entrepreneurship in the country. "Our endeavour is to move away from the low skill equilibrium and contribute towards economic growth and wealth creation through skill development and entrepreneurship. This will eventually lead to increased employment prospects for the youth of the nation," the Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said. RSN MRMR
