New Delhi, Mar 23 () The government on Monday said it is continuously working with industry bodies, stakeholders and manufacturers on 24x7 basis to streamline the supply chain of protective gears required by healthcare professionals to fight the coronavirus spread. In a statement, the textiles ministry said that for last 45 days it, along with the Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare, is attempting to locate adequate number of sources who can produce and supply the requirement of 'Body Coveralls' for government. Body Coveralls (PPE) is a specialised protective suit meant for high level of protection for health professionals. It has stringent technical requirements as prescribed by the Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare. Such materials are manufactured by a few international companies, who expressed their "inability" to supply on account of a complete glut in stocks and ban of exports by the source countries, the ministry said. Only a limited quantity was offered and procured by the procurement organisation of the Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare. The statement further said that the ministry is in touch with industry bodies, medical textiles manufacturers and suppliers since January 30 to augment the supply. "Five indigenous manufacturers came forward and offered fabric proto-types for testing at the accredited laboratory of South India Textiles Research Association (SITRA) at Coimbatore," the ministry said. All these attempts were directed at indigenous development of manufacturing sources as international supplies could not be possible. The testing was done at SITRA and the results of fabric samples were referred to technical experts to consider and decide on the technical requirements for COVID-19, considering the information on nature and characteristics of SARS-COVID-2 virus known by to the medical experts, the statement added. The Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare finalised the technical requirements on March 2. The textiles ministry further said that so far proto type garments of six Indian manufacturers have passed the prescribed tests conducted at SITRA, and two more manufacturers are forthcoming as on date. In addition, more and more manufacturers have been invited to offer their proto type samples, and come forward to meet the requirement of the government, it added. The government has already banned exports of all personal protective equipment including Body Coveralls, N-95 Masks, 2-ply/3-ply surgical masks. RSN NKD CS RVK

New Delhi, Jul 13 () Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday reviewed the implementation of the recently announced insurance scheme for health workers battling COVID-19 and emphasised the need for speedy settlement to help reach the benefits to the nominees at the earliest. The Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme is a part of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) announced in March for three months for 22.12 lakh public healthcare providers, including community health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of patients suffering from coronavirus infection and who may be at risk of being impacted by this. The scheme, funded through the National Disaster Response Fund operated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was later extended for another three month till September. During the review meeting held via video conferencing, a presentation was made by the Chairman and Managing Director of New India Assurance providing details about the highlight of the scheme and its status of implementation as on date, an official statement said. Of the 147 intimations received till date, claim documents have been submitted for 87, out of which 15 have been paid, 4 approved for payment while 13 are under examination, it said. "Further, a total of 55 claims have been found ineligible, out of which 35 claims fall outside the scope of the cover like police personnel, municipal workers not related to hospitals, people from education, revenue departments, etc, while another 20 claims submitted have the cause of death other than COVID-19 like cardiac arrest, etc," it said. It is to be noted that the New India Assurance is implementing this insurance scheme. During the meeting, the finance minister highlighted the importance for a speedy settlement and emphasised the need of the benefit reaching to the nominees at the earliest. Officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare provided an overview of the mechanism being followed with state nodal authorities to expedite the claims, also highlighting the issues being faced while reaching out to the family of deceased as well as obtaining the legal heir certificate, it said. Along with health ministry officials, senior officials from the Department of Financial Services were also present in the meeting. While announcing the scheme, the finance minister had said, safai karamcharis (sanitation workers), ward boys, nurses, ASHA workers, paramedics, technicians, doctors and specialists and other health workers would be covered by the special insurance scheme. However, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare later in an FAQ clarified that private hospital staff treating COVID-19 patients will also be covered. DP MKJ

New Delhi, Mar 11 () All states and union territories have been asked to step up sanitation and hygiene in all public transport vehicles to contain the spread of coronavirus, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry said on Wednesday.The states and union territories have also been advised to step up sanitation at bus terminals and stops, the ministry said. "A public health situation of this scale requires a concerted and whole of government approach in order to prevent further importation of cases and to build up a comprehensive and robust response system. "It is required to step up efforts and fully mobilise all resources to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in preparedness, control and containment measures," the ministry said in an advisory to all states and UTs.It advised all the states to take up necessary steps in public transport vehicles to ensure sanitation of seats, handles and bars. "The hygiene and sanitation may be stepped up at all the Bus Terminals and the display of public health messages may be ensured on public transport vehicles, Bus Terminals and Bus Stops," it said.Underlining that novel coronavirus cases have now been confirmed in more than 90 countries, the advisory stated that the Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare has been coordinating the efforts of the central government in this regard and has also been working with state governments in order to mitigate the impact of the outbreak in India.India has so far reported 60 coronavirus cases. China remains the hardest-hit country overall with more than 80,000 cases and 3,000 deaths, out of 117,339 cases and 4,251 fatalities worldwide. NAM MRMR

All hospitalised patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (fever and cough and/or shortness of breath) will also be tested for novel coronavirus. "Asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of a confirmed case should be tested once between day 5 and day 14 of coming in his or her contact," said the Ministry. Direct and high-risk contact include those who live in the same household with a confirmed case and healthcare workers who examined a confirmed case without adequate protection as per WHO recommendations. According to the Health Ministry there are at list 231 active coronavirus cases in India. Currently, India has witnessed cases of COVID-19 mostly related to travel and local transmission from imported cases to their immediate contacts. Community transmission of the disease has not been documented till now. Once community transmission is documented, the above testing strategy will undergo changes to evolve into stage appropriate testing strategy.

New Delhi, Mar 17 () State-owned CIL has asked its subsidiaries to take proactive steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The global economy is plunging into a deep crisis due to coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic that has killed over 7,000 and sickened lakhs of people around the globe. In India, the number of infected cases stood at 125, as per union health ministry log. "All subsidiaries must take proactive steps to help prevent spread of Covid-19," according to an official memorandum. In a bid to mitigate impact of novel coronavirus outbreak, Coal India (CIL) has also asked its employees to avoid large gathering and stressed that if inevitable, the same should be held via video conferencing. All the employees have been advised to visit the website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for various precautions and actions to be taken with regard to Covid-19 outbreak. "List of severely affected countries be downloaded from the website of Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare. Public health messages be displayed at appropriate places," the memorandum said. As the Government has stopped bio-metric attendance for certain period, "all employees of CIL/subsidiaries be exempted to mark their attendance in biometric attendance system till March 31, 2020. However, all employees are required to mark their attendance in attendance register, (as done prior to launch of biometric system), during this period," it said. Coal India asks subsidiaries to take proactive steps to prevent coronavirus spread

Analysis shows that children in the age group of 0-14 years are less affected by <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword>, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan informed the Lok Sabha on Friday. He said in a written reply that infection among children is mild and most of them remain asymptomatic. "Hence no specific action plan has been formulated in the current response phase to minimise the adverse effects of COVID-19 on such children," he said. Very rarely a severe illness, in form of multi-system inflammatory syndrome, has been identified, Vardhan said, adding this happens usually three to six weeks after the infection. The Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS, is documenting the long term effect of COVID-19 infection in children, he said. The minister was responding to a question on whether the government had formulated any action plan to control and minimise the adverse effects of COVID-19 in children aged 0-14. For appropriate management of COVID-19 cases, a three-tier arrangement of health facilities has been implemented -- <keyword id="8995444" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-care-centre">COVID Care Centre</keyword> with isolation beds for mild or pre-symptomatic cases, Dedicated COVID Health Centre (DCHC) with oxygen supported isolation beds for moderate cases and Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH) with ICU beds for severe cases, he said. Guidelines on clinical management of COVID-19 have been issued, Vardhan said. They also provides for management of complications. On whether the government has made any assessment of adverse effects of COVID-19 on <keyword id="6354774" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mental-health">mental health</keyword> of children and has provided psychological support through healthcare professionals, Vardhan said the <keyword id="263716" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-education">Ministry of Education</keyword> has initiated a programme called 'manodarpan' covering a wide range of activities to provide psycho-social support to students, teachers and families for mental health and emotional wellbeing. There is a national toll-free helpline 8448440632 to provide tele-counselling for students, parents and teachers to help cope with the situation, he said. The standard operating procedure for health and safety protocols for reopening of schools issued by the Ministry of Education has incorporated guidelines for promoting emotional well-being of students and teachers, the minister said. The <keyword id="210071" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Health">Ministry of Health</keyword> set up a 24/7 helpline through NIMHANS, Bangalore, on March 29, 2020 to provide psycho-social support to the affected population, divided into different target groups, Vardhan said. Two central mental health institutions -- namely LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur and Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi -- along with various states and UTs were also on-boarded to extend the services in regional and local languages. He said guidelines and advisories on management of mental health issues, catering to different segments of the society, were issued. To generate awareness among masses about mental illnesses, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities are an integral part of the NMHP, he said, and at the District level, funds up to ₹4 lakh per annum are provided under the DMHP for awareness generation activities, he said.
