The result of the ongoing general election will be announced on June 4. Before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, Modi said in February that he had already received invitations from "foreign countries for July, August, and September" as they are "confident of the BJP government returning to power". Officials said Meloni's invitation to Prime Minister Modi for the G7 Summit in Italy's Puglia in June after the elections reiterates this confidence. During their conversation on Thursday, the two leaders also discussed taking forward the important outcomes from India's G20 Presidency, especially those that support the Global South, at the G7 Summit under Italy's Presidency, the statement said. Italian PM Meloni invites PM Modi to G7 Summit Outreach Session in June

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "short but a very productive visit" to Jakarta, where he participated in the <keyword id="1493716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ASEAN-India-Summit" source="Orion">ASEAN-India Summit</keyword> and the East Asia Summit, has concluded on Thursday, said Secretary (East), <keyword id="6374106" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA), <keyword id="331724" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="saurabh-kumar" source="Orion">Saurabh Kumar</keyword>. "Prime Minister's participation in this summit will give India-ASEAN relations a strategic direction," said Secretary Kumar. "Prime Minister had comprehensive discussions, including in areas such as connectivity, maritime cooperation, digital transformation, trade and economy, environment, health and traditional medicines. In each of these, the Prime Minister made specific proposals, which has already been put out in the form of a twelve-point proposal," said Kumar. He added, "Two joint statements were issued between India and ASEAN. These relate to maritime cooperation and food security. In maritime cooperation, areas such as safety and security of the maritime area, maritime domain awareness, disaster management, blue economy, et cetera, have been covered." Prime Minister also announced the formation of an ASEAN India Fund for Digital Future, which would provide financial connectivity between ASEAN and India, said Kumar, adding, "Prime Minister also announced support for ERIA (Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia), which is an ASEAN think tank, which would be our knowledge partner to further deepen ASEAN-India relations." He also said that the Prime Minister, during his interactions and discussions, "called for a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific, emphasised ASEAN centrality and made the point that cod complements the same". Following his participation in the summits, PM Modi thanked Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, and the people. "Had a very short but fruitful Indonesia visit, where I met ASEAN and other leaders. ASEAN-India Summit: PM Modi highlights need to amplify voice of Global South during Jakarta visit

New Delhi, The first IIT campus outside India will come up in Tanzania's Zanzibar, the <keyword id="6374106" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA) said on Thursday. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for setting up of a campus of <keyword id="6356755" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-madras" source="Orion">IIT Madras</keyword> in Zanzibar, which is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. The agreement was inked on Wednesday in presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Zanzibar's President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. Jaishakar is on a visit to Tanzania. "The first IIT campus to be set up outside India will be in Zanzibar," the MEA said. It said an MoU was signed between the India's education ministry, IIT Madras and Zanzibar's ministry of education and vocational training. "This campus is reflective of the longstanding friendship between India and Tanzania and a reminder of the focus India places on building people to people ties across Africa and the Global South," the MEA said. It said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends that "high performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries". "Recognising the strategic partnership between Tanzania and India, the relationship of educational partnership has been formalised by signing the document which provides the framework for the parties to detail out the setting up of the proposed campus of IIT Madras in <keyword id="17916122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zanzibar-tanzania" source="Orion">Zanzibar-Tanzania</keyword>, with plans to launch programmes in October 2023," the MEA said.

India had announced ePassports last year and had claimed that they are compliant with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards and would be harder to destroy. The passport will also come with a digital signature that is unique to each country and can be easily verified using a certificate. The software for the ePassport has been developed by IIT Kanpur and the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The government has given approval to the India Security Press, Nashik for procuring electronic contactless inlays for manufacturing ePassports. The ePassports have been under trial and the government has issued 20,000 official and diplomatic ePassports. The first ePassport in India was issued to the then President of India, Pratibha Patil in 2008. According to officials, if the ePassport is tampered with, the system will be able to identify this, and the passport will not be authenticated. India’s ePassport — What it is and how to apply

India to resume scheduled international flights from December 15, says Aviation Ministry

Vivo needs to follow the law of the land, says external affairs ministry

<ul><li>The Ministry of External Affairs every year organises internship opportunities of six months in two terms.</li><li>Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the online application for Term 2 has not opened yet, and the ministry will soon announce the dates.</li><li>The ministry will select 30 interns with a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 per month.</li></ul>The Ministry of External Affairs (<keyword id="6358274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MEA" source="Orion">MEA</keyword>) every year organises an internship opportunity for budding scholars to familiarise themselves with the process of formulation of foreign policy and its implementation by the Government of India. The duration of the internship is six months offered in two terms -- Term 1 (January to June) and Term 2 (July to December). Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the online application for Term 2 has not opened yet, and the ministry will soon announce the dates. Interested candidates can keep a check on their <a href="https://www.internship.mea.gov.in/">official website</a>. The ministry will select 30 interns and they shall report to, work under close supervision of the concerned head of division (HOD). They may be required to conduct research, write reports, analyse evolving developments, or carry out any other task entrusted to them by the HOD. All the interns will get a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 per month. Candidates will have to report to the Delhi office during the course of their internship. The ministry will bear the travel cost for outstation candidates who will have to fly to Delhi from their home state. Eligibility criteria for the internship — 1. All the candidates should be an Indian citizen. 2. The maximum age limit for the candidates is 25 years as on December 31, of the year of the internship. 3. Candidates should have a minimum educational qualification of a graduate degree from a recognised university. 4. Candidates belonging to these states are only eligible for the opportunity — Term 1 — Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Delhi. Term 2 — Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry. 5. 30%-50% seats are reserved for women candidates. Internship at Ministry of External Affairs: Checkout details, stipend and how to apply

Close to one fifth or 18 per <keyword id="11081593" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cent-citizens">cent citizens</keyword> or someone in their social network could not find a Covid-19 dose when they went for <keyword id="54639" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="vaccination">vaccination</keyword> in the first 10 days of April, as per a Local Circles survey. However, amid the 2nd wave of Covid cases across the country, India is now reporting over 1,50,000 daily cases far surpassing the peak of 97,400 it hit in 2020. As India expands its vaccination drive with vaccines now being made available to all above the age of 45 and plans to inoculate 50 lakh people each day, leaders of some states in India are reporting a vaccine shortage. Citizens from locations like Mumbai and parts of the Delhi National Capital region have also shared their feedback on LocalCircles suggesting that some hospitals have boards indicating that they either have limited doses or no doses available on a particular day. However, the <keyword id="6354750" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="health">Health</keyword> Minister Harsh Vardhan has indicated that the country has enough doses. To understand what people are exactly facing on the ground, LocalCircles has conducted a survey to gauge if people who have gone to the vaccination centers have in fact experienced this shortage as claimed by some. The survey received more than 24,000 responses from citizens located in 255 districts of India. 18 per cent citizens or someone in their social network who could not find a vaccine dose when they went for vaccination in the first 10 days of April. India has administered over 10 crore vaccine doses to its citizens since the immunization drive began on January 16 this year It has also supplied more than 481 lakh doses of Covid-19 to more than 80 countries across the world under the 'vaccine maitri' program as well as under direct supply agreements by the <keyword id="95879" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serum-Institute-of-India">Serum Institute of India</keyword>. As per the survey, however, the worrying factor is that amidst the spike in Covid cases across India, media ground reports from states are suggesting that just over five days of vaccine stocks are currently remaining, while an additional week's supply is in the pipeline. In states like Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, current stocks are for less than two days and in others, like <keyword id="6357961" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="odisha">Odisha</keyword> have barely enough for four days. The spokesperson of the <keyword id="6374106" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> has said that India's move on the export of vaccines would be done keeping in mind the domestic requirements, the survey said. As posts and comments were received from people across India about vaccination centers displaying their current stock level as well as some people returning from vaccination centers without getting inoculated, the survey sought to understand from citizens if they or anyone in their social network faced a scenario in the first 10 days of April that they or someone in their network went to get vaccinated and the center was out of vaccine stock. In response, 6 per cent said "happened with 4 or more individuals in my social network", 6 per cent said "happened with 2-3 individuals in my social network", and another 6 per cent said "happened with one individual in my social network". There were, however, 76 per cent saying "did not happen with anyone", while 6 per cent couldn't' say. The aggregate response indicated that 18 per cent of citizens had someone in their social network who could not get a vaccine dose when they went for vaccination in the first 10 days of April. This question in the survey received 9,016 responses. It may be noted that many senior citizens got their first dose in the first 10 days of March and were scheduled to go for getting their second dose during the first 10 days of April. As per Local Circles, some went as scheduled and some decided to follow the revised 6-8 week gap between two doses of <keyword id="6409874" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="astrazeneca">Astrazeneca</keyword> vaccine or Serum's Covishield in India. 18 per cent of citizens or their family/friends facing the issue of going to a vaccination center but not getting the vaccine is something that must be looked into by the Central and State Governments, the survey said. The shortage may be due to suboptimal local distribution, while it is also possible that certain centers or locations have a genuine shortage. It must also be noted that as the 2nd wave of Covid strengthened in India, 77 per cent of citizens in the LocalCircles survey in April expressed interest in taking the vaccine. The number stood at 38 per cent when India started its vaccination drive thereby marking a major decline in vaccine hesitancy in the 80 days period. This decline in vaccine hesitancy could also be contributing to the demand-supply mismatch, the survey said. As per the survey, the Serum Institute of India currently produces 2 million vaccines a day, and Bharat Biotech produces 0.3 million vaccines in a day. If India continues to vaccinate 3 million people a day and if these two providers are unable to scale their production, India will need to import vaccines from other countries. Such a move has the support of 56 per cent of citizens surveyed who are in favour of India getting <keyword id="44612" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pfizer">Pfizer</keyword>, Moderna, and J&amp;J to conduct trials and make the vaccine available here by June.
