<p>Responding to a question at AllThingsD's <keyword id="6354485" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="mobile">mobile</keyword> conference from Wired editor Steven Levy about a so-called Twitter Phone today, Sippey said he'd be open to a similar Twitter-centric product.</p>
<p>"There are a lot of things we're looking at on Android," Sippey said. "I think [Facebook Home] is an interesting product. I'd like to see tweets there. So we'll see."</p>
<p>Android makes it possible for developers to create a "launcher" with deep integration into the operating system. It replaces your normal Android home screen. That's how Facebook Home works.</p>
<p>It sounds like Twitter is noodling around with the idea just like Facebook did.</p>

Meanwhile, Edward Ho has been given Siebert's role in charge of core product while the company searches for a permanent replacement.</p><p>The constant changes in Twitter's product division reflect the company's increasingly desperate attempts to revamp its core product to attract new users and kickstart growth.</p><p>Right now, Twitter's stock sits at $15.28, not far off its all-time low of $13.90 (<a href="http://www.investopedia.com/articles/markets/050416/twitter-stock-falls-alltime-low-twtr.asp">in May 2016</a>) and far, <em>far</em> below its record highs of $69 way back in 2014. Its active-user count is flatlining at about 300 million, albeit with <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/apr/26/twitter-earnings-wall-street-revenue-active-monthly-users">a minor bump</a> in the latest quarter. The number of tweets sent on the service has plummeted, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/tweets-on-twitter-is-in-serious-decline-2016-2">according to API data</a>, with 303 million sent in January - down from a peak of 661 million in August 2014.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Kimberly White/Getty Images for Vanity Fair</span></p><p class="caption">Jack Dorsey, cofounder and off-again-on-again CEO of Twitter.</p></div><p></p></div></div>In short, it's no secret that Twitter is struggling - especially when compared with the runaway success of rivals like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. It is struggling to gain users, its existing users are tweeting less, and investors are losing faith.</p><p>As Twitter has struggled with these problems, it has cycled through product chiefs - before eventually bringing back Jack Dorsey, who cofounded the company and was CEO before being ousted in 2008. The intention is that Dorsey, who would have "the moral authority as a founder to push teams to make big, bold changes to Twitter," <a href="https://next.ft.com/content/d39aa940-6871-11e5-97d0-1456a776a4f5">as Twitter COO Adam Bain put it</a>.</p><p>Here's a quick rundown of all of the product chiefs has Twitter run through since 2010:</p><ul><li>First, we have <strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Jason Goldman</strong>. He stepped down in <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2010/12/08/twitter-vp-of-product-jason-goldman-steps-down-at-le-web/">December 2010</a>. (He's now chief digital officer at the White House.)</li><li>Next, there's <strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Satya Patel.</strong> He joined in March 2011, and left in June 2012. <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/06/twitter-product-vp-satya-patel-steps-down-as-its-product-and-ad-business-both-grow/">TechCrunch reported at the time</a> that it was due to a re-organisation, with the ads and product teams splitting. "Patel's options were to take one of those roles instead of continuing to run both," wrote Eric Eldon. Patel is now a VC at Homebrew, a seed stage venture fund.</li><li>Third: <strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Michael Sippey.</strong> Sippey joined in 2012, and <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/17/michael-sippey-leaving-twitter/">left in January 2014</a>. In an email, he said it was "time to move on." Prior to his departure, there were reports that it was difficult to get changes made to the product. Mike Isaac, then writing for AllThingsD, <a href="http://allthingsd.com/20131108/can-twitter-fix-its-product-problem/">reported</a>: "Where [Facebook] is willing to 'move fast and break things,' sometimes pushing out new features in the span of weeks, changes to Twitter's core product often languish for months - or even years - in limbo."</li><li>After Sippey came <strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Daniel Graf</strong>. He made it less than a year in the role, <a href="http://recode.net/2014/12/05/former-product-vp-daniel-graf-leaves-twitter-after-demotion/">quitting Twitter December 2014</a> after he was demoted in October that year . <a href="http://recode.net/2014/10/30/twitter-demotes-product-vp-after-only-six-months/">A source claimed to Re/code</a> this happened because his "internal presentations lacked conviction and that he hadn't shipped any products since taking over the role."</li><li>Graf was replaced as head of product by <strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Kevin Weil</strong>. Weil had been at Twitter since 2009, gradually moving his way up the ladder. <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/twitter-has-six-heads-of-product-in-six-years-executive-churn2016-1">He left in January 2016</a>, along with several other execs. He's now working as <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevinweil">head of product at Instagram</a>.</li><li>And finally, we come to <strong>Jack Dorsey</strong>.</li></ul><p>It's little surprise then that some at Twitter are comparing it the "jinxed" Defence Against the Dark Arts teaching gig at Hogwarts, the fictional wizarding school from Harry Potter. <a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/06/twitter-is-betting-everything-on-jack-dorsey">Nick Bilton discussed this in a recent long feature on the state of Twitter for Vanity Fair</a>:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Every single product chief at Twitter - seven or eight people, depending on how you count - has been fired or forced to resign over the past decade. Twitter's 'jinxed' product role has claimed yet another head

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Jack Dorsey is the new de facto head of product at Twitter.<p>On Sunday, four executives left the company, including Kevin Weil, senior vice president of product.</p><p>It's part of a major shake-up, as Dorsey - founder and CEO - attempts to revitalise the struggling social network's fortunes.</p><p>Twitter <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/jack-dorsey-twitter-head-of-product-2016-1">has confirmed that it isn't hiring a replacement for Weil</a> - meaning that Dorsey and the executive team will have to step up.</p><p>It makes sense: Though Dorsey helped found Twitter, he spent several years away from the company. When he returned in late 2015, replacing Dick Costolo, the hope was that as a founder he would have the authority to make the sweeping changes necessary to invigorate the platform.</p><p>But Weil's departure also highlights Twitter's schizophrenic approach towards its core product - <strong>in six years, it has now had <em>six</em> different heads of product</strong><em>.</em></p><p>This was first <a href="https://twitter.com/RichBTIG/status/691994090376970240">noted on Twitter today by Rich Greenfield, an analyst at BTIG</a>.</p><p class="embed-spacer">First, we have <strong>Jason Goldman</strong>. Cofounder of Twitter, he was <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/21/technology/start-ups/21twitter.html?_r=0">pushed out by the board in 2008</a>, two years after the social network's genesis. He went on to found payments company Square in 2010, and continues to be CEO of the company even after his return to Twitter in 2015.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>This kind of churn isn't unique to Twitter's product team. Along with Weil, executives <strong>Alex Roetter</strong> (SVP of of engineering), <strong>Katie Jacobs Stanton</strong> (VP of global media), and <strong>Brian "Skip" Schipper</strong> (VP of human resources), as well as <strong>Jason Toff</strong> (general manager of Twitter-owned Vine) all left the company on Sunday.</p><p>Their departures mark a very significant shake-up - the four (discounting Toff) made up 40% of Twitter's 10-man executive team.</p><p>Alongside Dorsey, COO <strong>Adam Bain</strong>, general counsel <strong>Vijaya Gadde</strong>, chief accounting officer <strong>Robert Kaiden</strong>, CTO <strong>Adam Messinger</strong>, and CFO <strong>Anthony Noto</strong> remain.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Bain, as well as Messinger, will take on new responsibilities in light of the departures, Dorsey has said. Bain will have "responsibility for the revenue-related product teams, the Media team, and the HR team on an interim basis," Dorsey said, adding, "Our CTO Adam Messinger will be taking over all of engineering and consumer product, design and research user service, and Fabric into one group."</p><p>In a note published Tuesday, Goldman Sachs analysts highlight the elevated turnover in other C-suite positions. Twitter has had <strong>three chief financial officers in four&#xa0;years</strong>, and <strong>three heads of engineering in three years</strong> (four, if you count Messinger taking on engineering responsibilities).</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Twitter is struggling to prove to investors that it is able to attract new users and turn a profit. Its stock has been in near-constant decline since its IPO in 2013. <p>At Secret, Haider will be tasked with launching an Android version of the app. Secret is currently only available for iOS, whereas its closest competitor Whisper is available for both iOS and Android. </p>
<p>Other than Haider, Twitter's VP of Analytics and Business Intelligence Cayley Torgesson is also leaving the company.</p>
<p>Haider and Torgesson's departures are the latest in a string of exits at Twitter over the past few months. Back in January, Twitter Product VP Michael Sippey announced that he would be leaving the company.</p>

In fact, the job has such a high turnover rate that it's been likened to the "jinxed" Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position in the Harry Potter series.</p><p>In a new feature on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Vanity Fair's Nick Bilton reports:  </p><p><span>Twitter's most recent product departure was Kevin Weil, who was senior vice president of product from </span><span>October 2014 to February 2016. Weil has since joined Instagram as its head of product. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>The Wall Street Journal has published a long, detailed and at times <a href="http://online.wsj.com/articles/investors-grumbling-twitter-ceo-struggles-to-define-vision-1415323289">brutal anaylsis of CEO Dick Costolo's reign at Twitter.</a> Seriously, go read the whole thing if you care about the fate of world's best platform for sharing news (and why it seems to be treading water compared to the meteoric rise of Snapchat and Instagram).</p>
<p>If you follow Twitter closely, you'll notice little in the story that is specifically new. What the article does instead is to put together the entire jigsaw in one place: And when you see the complete picture, it's harsh:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">  A vague and difficult to understand description of Twitter's audience as a series of "eccentric circles." (Does he mean <em>concentric</em> circles?)</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">  Costolo wants to emphasize Twitter's wider, non-logged in audience (i.e. on news pages that have embedded tweets) to avoid comparisons to Facebook. But talking about the larger size of the Twitter audience invites comparisons to Facebook's even larger off-platform audience.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">  Endless management turmoil, much of it triggered by Costolo himself (especially when he hired one of his friends, Michael Sippey, to run the product team, who later left the company).</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">  This bit is especially worrying: "In all, the CEO has replaced or lost five direct reports since the IPO. Last week, he named Twitter's fifth head of product in as many years. Its most recent vice president of product, Daniel Graf, who came from Google Maps and was handpicked by Mr. Costolo, lasted less than six months in the post."</p>
<p>The stock has fallen from around $55 in September to around $40 now. So the scrutiny is warranted. Walter Price of Allianz Global's Technology Fund has reduced his position in Twitter, he told the Journal: "People are losing confidence in him."</p>
