The <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> has dampened the spirits of India ka Tyohaar, <keyword id="6354831" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Premier-League">Indian Premier League</keyword>, with its decision to ban both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> for two years. The Justice Lodha panel that probed into match-fixing allegations also declared Rajasthan Royal’s co-owner and Bollywood actor <keyword id="6358615" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shilpa-Shetty">Shilpa Shetty</keyword>’s husband <keyword id="18641" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raj-Kundra">Raj Kundra</keyword> and CSK team official <keyword id="1682587" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gurunath-Meiyappan">Gurunath Meiyappan</keyword> guilty in the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> spot fixing. The panel has banned both Meiyappan and Kundra from getting involved in any form of cricket for life. 

	With the verdict causing a stir in the cricketing world, the future of this mega-festival that changed the dynamics of the sports and brought cricket at par with other sports at a global level, does not look too great. The game, which has been mired in controversies since its beginning, has been hit hard by the credibility issue. 
 

	TR Vivek, co-author of IPL Cricket and Commerce: An Insider Story feels that the Justice Lodha verdict has brought this credibility challenge out in the open. “Personally, it will be farcical for the game to go on without these two teams,” he told BI India. 
 

	But its not just the game that has been adversely impacted. The verdict has also put the future of the players in doubt. The IPL allows a minimum squad of 16 players while the maximum is 27. Of these 27 players, only nine players can be of foreign origin while the remaining have to be Indians. In the playing eleven, the squad must include seven Indian players and the remaining can be foreign players. The squad must also have a certain number of BCCI’s under-22 as well as local players. 
 Currently, both CSK and Rajasthan Royals collectively have 50 players. While we can expect star players such as <keyword id="55681" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Brendon-McCullum">Brendon McCullum</keyword>, <keyword id="6377175" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Michael-Hussey">Michael Hussey</keyword>, Kyle Abbott, may get accommodated by other IPL teams, the same cannot be said about our budding cricketers. A larger number of these players can be expected to remain jobless in the coming days. And as far as MS Dhoni is concerned, it remains to be seen what the future has in store for him! 

	In terms of revenues, the verdict has also dented the franchise’s revenue stream substantially. According to Vivek, re-auction is the only way forward. “TV revenues are calculated by the number of games and hence they will have to come up with some way to keep the number of games constant or more,” he noted. 
 

	Interestingly, while the verdict has adversely impacted the brand IPL, it seems the game has just got meatier. While we can expect some drastic changes in the way the game will be played henceforth, it remains to be seen how India’s cricket governing body charts out its future course of action!

The Indian team led by <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ms-dhoni/4001/4057">MS Dhoni</a> to contest the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007 went from being rank outsiders - the oldest player of that squad was Ajit Agarkar at 29 and there were nine under the age of 25 - but ended up winning the trophy to change the landscape of world cricket. 
 
On the seventh anniversary of India's glorious five-run win, gocricket.com casts an eye on the XI that took the field on that memorable day of September 24, 2007, when they beat Pakistan in Johannesburg to lift the trophy, and how their international careers panned out since.

The left-hand top-order batsman from Delhi used the 2007 World Twenty20 to pitchfork himself back into Test plans, scoring 227 runs in the tournament with a best of 75 in the final. His first Test since December 2005 came a few months after the World Twenty20, and by mid-2008 Gambhir was chosen as opening partner to Virender Sehwag. Gambhir’s Test and ODI careers were successful until early 2013, when he was axed from all formats following a prolonged slump. He last played an ODI in January 27 and was handed a Test recall this summer in England, but 25 runs in four innings could have closed the curtains on his career.

 The older Pathan brother was handed a debut in the 2007 World Twenty20 final, as opener alongside Gambhir, and was a common feature in India's ODI and T20 teams until early 2012. He enjoyed much success with <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> in the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> and has won two titles with Kolkata Knight Riders. Yusuf, 31, played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is for India.

Uthappa had an amazing run in the 2014 IPL, scoring 660 runs, which was the most runs scored by an Indian batsman in a single edition of the tournament. That earned him a recall to India's ODI squad after six years, but an average tour of Bangladesh has again sidelined him, though he did lead India A in Australia this summer. On the domestic front, Uthappa had a strong 2013-14 season, scoring 374 runs in five Ranji Trophy games for Karnataka and 538 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

 Dropped from the ODI team after a poor tour of South Africa in December, Yuvraj last played for India in the ICC World Twenty20 in April, where he managed just one half-century in five innings and was widely criticised for his go-slow innings in the final against Sri Lanka. A decent IPL followed for <keyword id="6354506" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Royal-Challengers-Bangalore">Royal Challengers Bangalore</keyword> (376 runs, five wickets) but it wasn't enough to earn Yuvraj a place in India's ODI squad for Bangladesh or India. Have we seen the last of the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup?

 Undoubtedly the biggest gainer from 2007. Given the captaincy of the T20 side without any domestic leadership experience, Dhoni led the side to glory and the rest, as they say, is history. He has since captained India to the 50-over World Cup and No 1 in Tests, apart from enhancing his reputation as arguably the best limited-overs finishers. Dhoni's success with IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings - they have won two IPL titles as well as the <keyword id="56308" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Champions-League-Twenty20">Champions League Twenty20</keyword> - has helped him become the richest cricketer around.

Rohit made his T20I debut at the age of 20 during the 2007 tournament, after getting an ODI call a couple months earlier, but the talent shown at a young age has not fully been realised. Rohit, now 27, still has time on his side to prove that he belongs at Test level. Looks a certainty to tour Australia and New Zealand, injury aside, for next year's World Cup.

With Yuvraj, probably the second-most naturally talented Indian cricketer of the last decade. But like Rohit, the allrounder from Baroda has not lived up to the huge expectations. Irfan was Man of the Match in the 2007 World Twenty20 final but has since played only 16 T20Is, the last of which came in October 2012. With his pace dropping and a series of injuries taking their toll, Irfan has been relegated to domestic cricket and the IPL, but recently stated that he'll be back in India blue.

India's No 1 spinner in 2007 (he took seven wickets at the tournament), Harbhajan is today looking for way back into India's plans. The veteran offspinner, who has 413 wickets from 101 Tests, is currently out of the Indian squad. The 33-year-old last represented India in a Test match a year ago, while in ODIs his last match was in July 2011. His last T20I was in September 2012. 
 
<keyword id="111751" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Joginder-Sharma">Joginder Sharma</keyword> 
 Who can forget Joginder for his last over against Pakistan in the final? Two evenings after he was given the final over and dismissed <keyword id="6377175" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Michael-Hussey">Michael Hussey</keyword> and Brett Lee to clinch India passage into the final of the World Twenty20, Joginder was again entrusted with the last six balls with Pakistan needing 13 runs to win. A wide and a six later, Joginder created history. Cruelly, that was the last time Joginder represented India. He has since plied his trade for Haryana, successfully overcoming a life-threatening injury to make a return for his state.

 A sad tale of a real talent gone astray. The Kerala fast bowler, who bowled some telling spells in South Africa, was handed a life ban by the <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> last year for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the IPL, though he insists he was totally honest and non-corrupt. An international career that lasted just 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is seems one truly unfulfilled for arguably the most naturally skilled Indian fast bowler to emerge since Zaheer Khan.

The left-arm seamer from Uttar Pradesh played a huge role in India's success in South Africa with 12 wickets at an economy rate of 6.33, with his spells against South Africa and Pakistan being the best he's bowled in Twenty20. A couple successful IPL seasons hinted at much more after RP struggled with injuries and form, but he has not played for India since he was shockingly recalled for a Test in England when holidaying in Miami. RP remains a central figure for UP in domestic cricket.

Where Are India's 2007 T20 Stars Now?

Mumbai Indian made up for Saturday's batting failure against Lahore Lions big time, chasing down 162 on a gallop against Southern Express in the Champions League T20 qualifers to keep their tournament proper hopes alive at Raipur on Sunday.

In a must-win match for the defending champions, <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/lendl-simmons/31001/10059">Lendl Simmons</a> and <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/michael-hussey/31001/1033">Michael Hussey</a> rose to the occasion and after early nerves showed such dominance that the Sri Lankan team had no chance and bowed out with two defeats in as many matches. Simmons and Hussey added 139 for the opening stand to help their team reach the target in 16.2 overs with nine wickets in hand. 
 
The Sri Lankans had a big chance to break the stand in the eighth over but wicketkeeper Kusal Perera failed to hit the stumps at the non-striker's end despite having a good view after Hussey, who was on 20 at that time, pushed a Dilruwan Perera delivery on the offside and ran off for a single straight away. The Aussie went on to score 60 off 40 balls. 
 
Simmons remained unbeaten on 76 off 51 balls with the help of 11 fours and one six as <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/kieron-pollard/31001/10060">Kieron Pollard </a>finished the match in style with back-to-back sixes off left-arm spinner Sachith Pathirana. Earlier in the day, SE posted 161 for 6. The sixth-wicket 58-run stand between Angelo Perera and Farveez Maharoof, vastly helped by poor fielding from MI, was largely responsible for the solid total. 
 MI, who lost their opening game to Pakistan's LL on Saturday, won the toss and put the opposition in to bat and their bowlers justified <keyword id="1411" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="captain">captain</keyword> Pollard's decision by taking early wickets. Medium pacer Jasprit Bumrah induced a top edge off the dangerous Kusal for 8. 
 
Pollard also got in on the act with a slower delivery and had Yashodha Lanka caught for 9. Opener Danushka Gunathilaka had looked in control during his innings of 30 before falling in a soft manner to innocuous-looking offspinner Jalaj Saxena. 
 Captain Jehan Mubarak was the next to go when in an attempt to slog-sweep <keyword id="43488" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pragyan-Ojha">Pragyan Ojha</keyword> he lost his offstump for 16. Sekkuge Prasanna (15) hit two big sixes to wake up the crowd but his unfortunate run-out as a result of a misunderstanding with Angelo ended his innings. 
 
Angelo and Maharoof's stand brought the Lankans back into the match before Lasith Malinga, who captained SE to the domestic title in Sri Lanka, cleaned up Angelo for 28 in the last over. Maharoof (41* off 22 balls) got a six and four off the last two balls to finish the innings on a high. 
 
MI made one change to their team that lost to the Lions, bringing in legspinner Shreyas Gopal in place of the injured Praveen Kumar. In the first game of the day at Raipur, New Zealand's Knights secured a thumping 72-run against the Lions to put one foot in the tournament proper.

Mumbai Indians Thrash Southern Express In Must-win Game

Almost all the captains in the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League have had some moments of joy, but one <keyword id="16561" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="skipper">skipper</keyword> who has seldom been found without any jest is Mumbai Indians' Rohit Sharma. Not many expected MI to be one of the first teams to be written off after such a successful campaign last season, when they clinched their maiden title as well as the Champions League T20. More than Rohit's smile gone missing, the look on his face is more gloomy than reassuring, more burdensome than inspirational. After all, he had to bear the burden of MI being defending champions despite the fact that their icon player <keyword id="6354267" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sachin-Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword> was gone and a couple key components not around. 	There are many factors that did not work for MI during a so far painful campaign for them. Here we pinpoint the major ones.
 

	It all started at the auction table
 One of the biggest setbacks for the defending champions was to see the players they let go off from their 2013 squad do exceedingly well this year for other franchises. The biggest examples being Dwayne Smith, <keyword id="470051" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Glenn-Maxwell">Glenn Maxwell</keyword> and Mitchell Johnson, who contributed strongly whenever being called upon to do so last year. Especially Smith, who had made it a habit of forging solid opening stands with Tendulkar, invariably creating momentum for strokeplayers like Rohit, Dinesh Karthik and Kieron Pollard to tee off at any given point of time. That opening slot turned out to be a massive weak link for the team this year as new recruit and veteran <keyword id="6377175" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Michael-Hussey">Michael Hussey</keyword> (30 runs from four games) and Ben Dunk (40 runs from three games) failed miserably with the bat. They alternated the one opening slot with Aditya Tare (106 runs from 10 games) and CM Gautam (121 runs from nine games) but neither could live up to the billing. Plus, playing at least three uncapped Indian players in all matches turned out be a big problem for MI as the options did not enthuse confidence. The reason being the retention of five players for the 2014 auction and the heavy spending on Hussey, Corey Anderson left MI with less purse to buy quality domestic players. 

	Non-performing overseas players
 After being touted as the next big thing in world cricket, fastest ODI centurion Anderson was the cynosure of all eyes when <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> 7 began. However, 150 runs and four wickets in 10 isn't what you'd want to get from a player who was paid Rs 4.5 crore. Perhaps the big occasion, near alien conditions and huge crowds overawed Anderson but what about Hussey? The former Chennai Super Kings veteran was a real force in the two-time champion side and was expected to do much the same for his new franchise, but his poor returns put MI under tremendous pressure and invariably exposed the frailties of a susceptible middle order. 

	Big runs go missing
 

	After the loss to KKR, Rohit said: "We need to keep scoring 170-plus if we need to win consistently, we aren't doing that." His reasoning is valid. MI have crossed 170 twice so far and ended up winning those games. Their highest run-getter in the tournament, Ambati Rayudu (310 runs in 10 games) is languishing at ninth in the top run-getters. Rohit, Pollard, Rayudu and Lendl Simmons (a late recruit) have combined for seven fifties that includes one score above 70 and two over 60.
 

	After Malinga, who?
 

	The champion bowler that he is in this format, Malinga didn't disappoint with 16 wickets in 10 games. However, he lacked support from the other end. The only instance in the tournament so far when a MI bowler took three or more wickets is Malinga's 4/23 in the season opener. Harbhajan Singh's drought of wickets has not helped apply pressure in the middle overs. In comparison to 24 wickets last season, Harbhajan's eight this year leaves a big vacuum.
 Harbhajan, Johnson, Malinga and Pragyan Ojha took 84 wickets last season. In 2014, injury to <keyword id="12644" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Zaheer-Khan">Zaheer Khan</keyword> has forced MI to try Jasprit Bumrah (two wickets), <keyword id="6366707" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Praveen-Kumar">Praveen Kumar</keyword> (two wickets) and Pawan Suyal (one wicket) as his replacement. Ojha (economy 8.29) and Pollard (10.73) have been the biggest disappointments with one wicket apiece. 

	A combination of the above factors has left Rohit with more than just a creased forehead. Last year, the responsibility brought the best out of him but now the burden of leading an under-performing group is looking too heavy a yoke to bear.

IPL: Numbers Spoiled MI's Title Defense

NEW DELHI: The huge demand at the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> <keyword id="1639" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Auction">auction</keyword> for Kevin Pietersen, the biggest national team reject around these days, isn't the only instance of franchises taking decisions contrary to those made by country selectors. While the dynamics of IPL team building are different, a look at the top 15 Indian players auctioned on Wednesday reveals little regard for choices made by Team India selectors.

 Sure, the core of the Indian T20 team — Dhoni, Kohli, Jadeja, Dhawan, Rahane, <keyword id="13937" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rohit-Sharma">Rohit Sharma</keyword> etc — were all retained by their franchises. But of those auctioned, only four of the 15 Indians who fetched the highest prices —Yuvraj, Bhuvneshwar, Amit Mishra and Shami — find a place in the India squad for the upcoming World T20 in Bangladesh. 
 
The remaining 11 — Karthik, Murali Vijay, Uthappa, Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan, Ojha, Sehwag, Vinay Kumar, Manoj Tiwary, Unadkat and Ishant — were neither retained by their franchises nor picked for India's T20 squad. But in the IPL, they are trusted and high-value property. 
 Mohit Sharma and Varun Aaron, who do find a place in the India squad, commanded a lower price than Unadkat, Ishant, Zaheer or <keyword id="149050" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Umesh-Yadav">Umesh Yadav</keyword>, who have been discarded by the national selectors while looking for T20 fast-bowling options. Sharma and Aaron are only 20th and 21st on the list of top Indians auctioned in Bangalore, well below the others. 
 
Of course, the dynamics of team building in the IPL are very different from picking a national squad — with clear cut brackets for 4 foreigners and 7 Indians in the XI — but logic would suggest that those in the national team should get more attention at the auction than rejects with similar skill sets. 
 This variance with choices made by national selectors isn't repeated with other teams like Australia, probably because their top players were not all retained by franchises. Of the top 10 Aussies auctioned on the first day — Mitchell Johnson, Glen Maxwell, <keyword id="60604" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="David-Warner">David Warner</keyword>, Mitchell Starc, <keyword id="6377175" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Michael-Hussey">Michael Hussey</keyword>, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, George Bailey, Brad Hodge — all except Smith and the retired Hussey are headed for Bangladesh. But that Aussie squad also includes 43-year-old spinner Brad Hogg, who went unsold at the auction.

IPL Versus Selectors: Who Knows Best?

Chennai Super Kings went on to grab their fourth Indian Premier League title, beating runners up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in the finals in Dubai. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni found the real edge in his openers, which included the 24-year old <keyword id="4238575" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ruturaj-gaikwad" source="Orion">Ruturaj Gaikwad</keyword> who’s burst into the scene with a flurry of runs off relatively orthodox batting shots but, nevertheless, scoring at the plucky pace characteristic to Twenty20 (T20) cricket. Gaikwad is the youngest player to be the highest run scorer in a single season of the IPL. MI were outclassed in all departments by the Kiwi side that did not put a foot wrong on their way to securing a place in the main draw. The table toppers in the qualification round, Knights go into the tournament proper along with <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/teams/lahore-lions/89001/players">Lahore Lions</a>, who had earlier defeated Southern Express by 55 runs. 
 
Chasing a 133-run target, NK were off to a brilliant start with openers Anton Devcich and <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/Kane-Stuart-Williamson/6001/6071">Kane Williamson</a> putting up an 83-run stand. By the time MI managed to get their first breakthrough in the tenth over, the asking rate was well under five runs per over. If anything that could have bothered <keyword id="836840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="the-knights">the Knights</keyword> from there on was some quick wickets but that didn’t happen. MI spinners failed to get any purchase ruling out any chance of a comeback. 
 
Williamson top scored for NK with a 36-ball 53 before being snared by Jasprit Bumrah in the 13th over but it was all too late in the day as <keyword id="1731187" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Daryl-Mitchell">Daryl Mitchell</keyword> and Scott Styris completed the formalities with 16 balls to spare. 
 
Earlier, poor shot selection and another top-order crumble crippled MI's chances of making it to the main draw as NK kept the Champions League Twenty20 holders to 132/9. It was the pressure created by the Knights' opening bowlers, Tim Southee and <keyword id="835484" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Trent-Boult">Trent Boult</keyword>, that stifled MI's big-hitting batsmen who were forced to make mistakes. Southee and Boult maintained a nagging line to restrict MI to just 20 runs in their first four overs. The duo kept up the pressure for most of the innings, conceding just 45 runs between them in their eight overs and taking four wickets, three of which were to Southee. 
 
The flow of wickets meant that MI were always under pressure to get up their run rate. Knights were excellent in the field, adding to the chokehold that Styris applied with his canny stump-to-stump seam-up deliveries. Williamson pulled off a brilliant catch, diving in front at short cover to get rid of Jalaj Saxena in the sixth over which gave Styris his first wicket, and the veteran allrounder removed Lendl Simmons in the next over. The MI opener paid the price of forcing himself too early in the shot while trying to cut a straight delivery that crashed into the stumps. Trying to make room for a late cut, Aditya Tare nicked to wicketkeeper Bradley Watling, and Styris bowed out with superb bowling figures of 4-0-21-3, a performance which earned him the Man of the Match award. 
 <keyword id="13880" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai-Indians">Mumbai Indians</keyword> had lost half of their side by the 11th over with not even 50 runs on the scoreboard. Pollard managed to salvage some pride with a 24-ball 31 and Malinga and Gopal swung their bats in the last couple overs, but MI needed something exceptional to stop Knights from bolting into the main stage of the CLT20 but that did not happen.

In the last league match of <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> 7, <keyword id="13880" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Mumbai-Indians">Mumbai Indians</keyword> needed to chase 190 in 87 balls (14.3 overs) at a required rate of 13.2 per over to claim the fourth and final play-offs spot available. <keyword id="61632" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kieron-Pollard">Kieron Pollard</keyword> said during the mid-innings break that the home team would go all for for it, seeing as if they did not get those 190 runs in the required overs their tournament was over and <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> would progress. What happened next was unbelievable, as Corey Anderson slammed an unbeaten 95 off just 44 balls and found support from Ambati Rayudu and Aditya Tare to seal a sensational five-wicket win.

	Mumbai were 34 for 1 in three. They needed 156 from 69 balls. Anderson launched Dhawal Kulkarni into the sight screen first ball, then miscued one back to the bowler. A single got on strike Michael Hussey, who flicked six over square leg. A wide, double and triple made made it 19 off the over, leaving MI to score at 13 per over.
 9th over: 15 runs Thirty nine balls, 101 runs required. <keyword id="791756" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kevon-Cooper">Kevon Cooper</keyword>, who had dismissed Hussey and Kieron Pollard in his first over to set MI back, was taken for a tap. First ball, Anderson made room and drilled the ball straight back past the stumps for four. A double, single, wide, single followed. Back on strike for the fifth ball, Anderson swung it over long-on for six. The sixth was a yorker, jammed down to third man for four. Now 51 needed from 21. 

	12th over: 18 runs

	Watson, who conceded 15 off his first over, took the ball from Faulkner. It proved a bad move. Rayudu carved the first ball over third man, the second over extra cover, the third past mid-on. Three balls, three fours. A single, boundary and single followed. Now 33 needed from 15.
 

	15th over: 13 runs

	Mumbai managed 24 off the 13th and 14th over to leave the equation at nine off three balls. Watson entrusted Faulkner the duty. First ball, Anderson edged to third man for one. The second, criminally, was a leg-stump full toss. Rayudu swung it over long leg for six. Now two runs needed off one ball. Rayudu tried to cut a short-of-a-length ball but it lobbed to short extra cover, who underarmed the ball at the nonstriker's end but missed. Rayudu turned back for the second but was run out. He sank to his knees in despair, but within moments the umpires ruled that because the scores were tied, Mumbai could get their NRR over that of Rajasthan's if they hit the next ball for four. Faulkner, after several moments of discussions and strategies with the RR think-tank, sent down a second consecutive full toss outside leg stump. Aditya Tare swung it away for six over square leg to cue ecstatic scenes. The MI dugout was cleared, the fans went berserk, Tare raised his jersey over his head, football style, and ran around the field like a man possessed.

 In a cricket match, seldom has a catch been the talking point. He had not timed it all that well but with the deep mid wicket boundary at Sharjah been short, it seemed the ball would sail over. Lynn, though, had other plans. His job was made difficult by the fact that he slipped up while lining up for the catch. However, he kept his eyes on the ball, raised his hands and arched back like a gymnast to pouch the catch. With the momentum threatening to take him over the ropes, he stuck out his right hand and ensured that he landed just inches in front of the rope. This moment gave KKR victory by two runs. Pollard is the best catcher in the IPL. No, he is not, say CSK 
 <keyword id="61632" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kieron-Pollard">Kieron Pollard</keyword> has built a reputation that he can pouch just about anything. Every team has felt his brilliance in the field, except CSK. In the 2013 IPL clash between CSK and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede, Pollard dropped Michael Hussey, then playing for CSK, thrice in three balls off Mitchell Johnson. He managed to pouch a good one off Suresh Raina but the three consecutive dropped catches were a sight to behold. 
 In the match against CSK in Dubai, Pollard was once again generous in the field for CSK. In the sixth over, <keyword id="55681" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Brendon-McCullum">Brendon McCullum</keyword> smashed one past mid off. Pollard leapt with one hand but he could not latch onto it. This was a difficult catch but for Pollard's standards, it could have been taken. However, in the 16th over bowled by Harbhajan Singh, Faf du Plessis slog swept the bowler to deep square leg where Pollard dropped a sitter. It seems Pollard suffers from yellow fever when it comes to catching against CSK. 
 
Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals: A tale of two ties 
 KKR and RR played out the first ever tie in the 2009 IPL in Cape Town. In that match, both teams ended on 150 and it was <keyword id="18938" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Yusuf-Pathan">Yusuf Pathan</keyword> who stole the show when he smashed three sixes of Ajantha Mendis to help RR put one over KKR. Five years later and in another neutral venue, KKR and RR played out their second tie. With the scores tied on 152, KKR batted in the one-over eliminator and scored 11. With three needed off the last ball, Steven Smith batted in a way which gave a new definition to smart play under pressure. He knew that in the event of the super over been tied, RR would go through as they had hit more boundaries. He spotted the gap at extra cover and he walked down the track to push it into that gap for a couple. It was the first time that a super over was tied in the IPL. Once again, KKR had failed to get over the line against RR. 
 
Sandeep Sharma shows his mettle 
 
In the IPL, there is a prevalent theme that bat dominates ball to such an extent that bowlers are scarred for life. However, one young gun has thwarted this notion.
