To encourage more people to use the metro in this scenario, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is running 60 extra trips on weekdays, offering more capacity than usual, an official statement said. The DMRC has recorded its 25 highest passenger journeys since August this year, the statement added. It emphasised that the more people opt for the metro over private vehicles, the greater the reduction in vehicular emissions, which will help improve the air quality of the city and its surrounding areas. We don't know where it came from, it has been on board for a month maybe 5-6 weeks now and each cruise we think it has gone but more and more people get sick," another source told Metro.Business Insider was unable to independently verify these claims, but a P&amp;O spokesperson told BI that there had been numerous reports of guests with "gastrointestinal symptoms" on board.The P&amp;O spokesperson said, "upon embarkation, all guests were provided with an advisory notice with precautionary health measures for on board and on shore."The staff aboard Ventura had "implemented approved and enhanced sanitisation protocols" and "a further enhanced and extended sanitisation took place in Tenerife," on Friday.In the US, the risk of getting norovirus each year is about 1 in 15, while a passenger on a cruise ship has about a 1 in 5,500 chance of getting laboratory-confirmed norovirus during an outbreak on ship, <a target="_blank" href="https://cruising.org/en-gb/about-the-industry/policy-priorities/health/norovirus-on-cruise-ships">Cruise Lines International Association says on its website.</a>According to the P&amp;O website, Ventura has capacity for 3,078 guests and 1,205 crew.Norovirus is one possible cause of the guests' symptoms.Also known as the "vomiting bug," norovirus is a highly contagious stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhea.It can be spread via close contact with someone who has the bug, touching your mouth after touching contaminated surfaces or objects, or eating contaminated food, according to the UK's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/norovirus/">National Health Service</a>.In confined areas such as a cruise ship, the virus can spread particularly quickly.The UK experienced a period of high norovirus activity in April."Between weeks 14 to 17 of 2024, the total number of norovirus laboratory reports was 75% higher than the 5-season average for the same 4-week period," a UK government report said.In February, over 120 passengers on board Cunard's Queen Victoria ship <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cunard-cruise-ship-passengers-fell-ill-from-unknown-cause-2024-1">reported</a> having diarrhea and vomiting. But an issue with the flaps on the wing triggered an emergency landing 45 minutes after takeoff, which resulted in travelers waiting on the tarmac at Lisbon International Airport for three hours before the flight was canceled.Corden tried to entertain passengers while they waited, Vanessa said: "he walked up and down the aisles talking to people, and let everybody take a selfie with him."She added: "He was just really nice, he would have been well within his rights to sit and sulk in his seat like the rest of us would be doing but he didn't."Vanessa clarified that in the viral photos, Corden was telling the plane crew that the airport staff had put them into the wrong immigration queues."The people he's speaking to in that picture are the flight staff on our plane. I watched him fist bump the pilot as he got off the plane, he said, 'Thank you very much,'" she recalled.The actor also reportedly defended some of the passengers who were stranded in Lisbon without complimentary hotel accommodation."James was a Club flyer and he stood there, and was like 'What about all these people who've got all these kids with them?' like saying that's not acceptable. India's domestic air passenger traffic rose 9% to more than 1.27 crore in November, according to official data released on Friday. Last month also saw daily air traffic touching new highs multiple times. <keyword id="6354706" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indigo" source="Orion">IndiGo</keyword> remained the country's largest domestic carrier but its market share declined to 61.8% in November from 62.6% in October. However, none of the scheduled carriers had an On-Time Performance (OTP) score of more than 80% in November. Official data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday showed that airlines flew 1.27 crore passengers in November compared to 1.17 crore in the year-ago period. This marks a growth of 9.06% on an annual basis. "Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-November 2023 were 1,382.34 lakhs as against 1,105.10 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering annual growth of 25.09% and monthly growth of 9.06%," DGCA said. The domestic market share of <keyword id="6358032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spicejet" source="Orion">SpiceJet</keyword> rose to 6.2% in November from 5% in October. Its OTP stood at 41.8% last month. <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword>'s domestic market share remained unchanged at 10.5% in November while that of Vistara fell marginally to 9.4% last month. In November, the share of Akasa Air and AIX Connect remained unchanged at 4.2% and 6.6%, respectively. As per the data, Akasa Air topped the OTP chart at 78.2%, followed by IndiGo at 77.5% and Vistara at 72.8%. Air India's OTP was at 62.5% while that of AIX Connect and Alliance Air were at 69.7% and 66.1%, respectively. On-Time Performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines is computed for four metro airports -- Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

He said construction of metro lines is also progressing well on the airport side. He said the biggest challenge in urban mobility is the integration of multi-modal transport systems and moving people to get into public transport from personalised transport modes. Parwez said urban India was the most neglected area until the 1990s, as urban planning was not in sync with connectivity or mobility issues. He said BMRCL is getting a lot of support from startups in mobility to ensure that commuters have last-mile connectivity. He said the corporation is tying up with mobility providers to get people to reach the nodal point and commute to their workplaces. Parwez said the <keyword id="6367447" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Namma-Metro" source="Orion">Namma Metro</keyword> has recently gone digital with its payment options that include the use of QR code scans and UPI-based payment options which has met with good response from commuters. Also, there is no waiting time for passengers who are in a hurry as there is no need to stand in queues to buy tickets or cards now. He said BMRCL is working on a transit-oriented development where commuters live close to the stations and to the workplace. Besides, the BMRCL also intends to integrate all aggregators by bringing out a mobility card for commuters. He said the corporation is in talks with BMTC to have bus stops at metro stations to help commuters hop on and hop off both modes of transport. He said bike taxis and carpooling should be encouraged although the government of Karnataka had put brakes on their operation. The BMRCL is also working on introducing shopping options for commuters inside and outside the metro stations. He said the BMRCL plans to sell office space in metro stations and provide end-to-end solutions to all the stakeholders. Amit Bhatt, Managing Director of the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), said urbanisation in India is 33 per cent while it is about 80-85 per cent in European and American countries. He said about 66 per cent of urban infrastructure is yet to be built in India as the country is set to see a number of cities being built. The biggest challenge is to ensure zero emission, zero exclusion and zero accidents in urban transport, he said. Vadiraj Krishnamurthy, Vice President of Technology and Innovation, Bosch Global Software Technologies, said the future is software-defined fully programmable vehicles. "The key enablers of urban transport are personalised multi-modal mobility, automated mobility, electrified and connected mobility. Connecting vehicles using technology is an engineering challenge of the future," he said. Bengaluru metro rail on track to complete 175 km of commute by June 2025: BMRCL MD

The order worth EUR312 million (Rs 2,643 crore approx.) includes the design and manufacturing of 234 standard gauge metro cars for Line 7 extension, which is 12.558 km of Pink line on the Mukundpur- Maujpur corridor and, the Line 8 extension, which is 28.92 km of Magenta line for the Janakpuri West - RK Ashram corridor, according to a statement from Alstom. Alstom will also design and manufacture of 78 standard gauge metro cars for the 23.622 km Silver line between Aerocity and Tughlakabad, including 15-year maintenance of these 78 cars. The statement said that Alstom would supply its Metropolis trainsets for this order. Metropolis trains offer a unique design, a wide range of configurations and ensure the highest performance due to the perfect combination of proven and reliable components and innovations, the company said. With its extensive track record, low lifecycle costs, and keen focus on passenger experience, Alstom said its Metropolis metros set the standard around the world. Talking about the new contract, Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India Cluster, said that "Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) is amongst the largest urban clusters in the world.
