BANGALORE: Google is bringing its hugely successful <keyword id="138263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startup">startup</keyword> mentorship programme to India, and has already identified over ten startups to be part of it. 
 
Google Launchpad, as it is called, will be a 5-day programme between November 3 and 7 in Bangalore, and will see a number of senior Googlers coming down to mentor the startups in technology, product strategy, user interfaces, user experiences, and marketing. The event will conclude with a demo day where the startups will make a pitch to VCs and investors. 
 "Launchpad is an exhaustive mentorship programme to help startups build at scale. By next year we want to do this every quarter, and a year from then, we hope to do it every month," said Sunil Rao, country head of the startup programme in <keyword id="45395" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-India">Google India</keyword>. 
 About 25 startups will be part of it. Among those already selected are CoSight, which helps make sales executives more efficient, iReff Technologies, which allows you to find the best prepaid mobile recharge plan for your needs, and Smart Pocket, which manages all your loyalty cards on the phone. These three are also part of Nasscom's 10,000 Startup programme. Two startups who were winners at the <keyword id="54274" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="MIT">MIT</keyword> Global Startup Labs demo day are also part of it - AdWyze, which provides interactive direct response solutions, and Wazzat Labs, which delivers efficient image processing, computer vision and graphics solutions on mobile platforms. 
 
Others identified so far are Bluehat Education, an e-learning firm, CashKumar, which allows you to get the best rate on foreign exchange, and RightDoctor, which helps find the right doctor for your ailment, Frilp, which helps find shops and services used and recommended by your friends, colleagues and other like-minded people, and Expin.me, a storybuilder application. 
 The first edition of Launchpad was launched in Israel a year and half back, and it was so successful that Google has had about 14 of these events there since then, with each batch having 15-20 startups. Launchpad was later taken to <keyword id="6355226" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brazil">Brazil</keyword>. 
 
For the Bangalore event, there will be about 20 mentors, half of who will be Googlers from California and Israel, including Amit Shevat, Google's startup outreach programme manager. 
 
Rao said startups were being identified based to great extent on the quality of the founding team. "We need people who can really implement the idea. We are also looking for those with a sound business plan and minimum product viability," he said. 
 
Ravi Gururaj, chairman of the Nasscom Product Council, said the Nasscom 10,000 Startups programme was championed by Google India MD Rajan Anandan and the programme had provided a huge booster shot to India's technology entrepreneurial ecosystem. "Google's Launchpad is a similarly innovative compressed bootcamp which will deliver access to world class experts, and knowledge to further help catalyse the Indian startup ecosystem. Launchpad resembles an accelerator on steroids and we would welcome more such programmes," he said.

Flipkart Ventures invests in 6 early-stage tech startups

Uber and TiE <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword>, along with a T-Hub, a start-up ecosystem builder has launched a programme that will connect Indian start-ups with the global market. According to a statement issued by the start-up incubator, T-Bridge will enable start-up communities in India and around the world to cross-pollinate ideas, innovate and create channels for knowledge transfer. It will also create a network of mentors, VCs, incubators and accelerators that is advantageous to the Indian start-up ecosystem.

global with ease, thanks to Uber and T-Hub

<ul><li><a href="http://www.platohq.com">Plato</a> is a startup that connects programmers and engineers with mentors from companies like Amazon, Facebook, and Lyft.</li><li>Plato just raised $3.3 million from SaaStr's Jason Lemkin, Slack, and others. </li><li>Plato was born out of the founders' own inexperience managing a team the first time they tried releasing a product. </li></ul><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">PlatoPlato CEO Quang Hoang, speaking at one of the company's in-person networking events.</div></div></div>In 2014, Quang Hoang and two of his classmates at the Paris-area university École Polytechnique decided to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams by forming a startup called <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2016/02/26/birdly-wants-to-help-call-your-customer-data-by-talking-to-a-slack-bot/">Birdly</a>. Their first business idea for Birdly was a robot, integrated with the popular chat app Slack, that would simplify the process of filing expense reports. That didn't work so well. The second idea was another Slack robot, which let users pull up customer information from systems like Salesforce right from the chat window. That didn't pan out, either. The good news was Birdly had received some capital from investors including the Y Combinator accelerator program and Slack itself, granting a little leeway to figure something out. The bad news was, the tumult alienated most of Birdly's employees, who quit. Hoang attributes the turnover to his own inexperience as a manager."We, along the way, made many mistakes in management," Hoang tells Business Insider. "We lost many great developers." The whole episode made one thing clear to Hoang: If his own experience was any indication, there are a lot of programmers like him who could benefit from a little mentorship in being a better leader. In January of this year, the trio moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and decided to take a risk on a new idea. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">PlatoShivani Sharma, Senior Engineering Manager at Slack, speaking at a Plato mentorship event. Sharma is one of several mentors you can get in touch with via Plato's service.</div></div></div>And so, Birdly gave way to Plato - a service that matches programmers and product managers with a network of experienced leaders at companies like Google, Amazon, and Facebook, starting at $199/month. And it's looking like a hit: Within its first 70 days, Plato hit $200,000 in revenue. Not bad for a three-person team. Plus, Hoang boasts that in about 8 months, Plato hasn't lost a single customer. Today, Plato announces a $3.3 million round of funding led by Jason Lemkin, with participation from Slack, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan, Fundersclub, and more. Lemkin and Slack are both returning investors. <h2>The mentorship connection</h2>Plato borrows a key idea from the team's previous startup ventures: The main way users interact with Plato is via a Slack chat. A Plato customer types out the problem that they're having - "How do I make sure my team hits deadlines?" - and a human will get back to you with a few follow-up questions. With that context, Plato will hook users up with a mentor for a one-on-one phone or video chat. Ideally, that mentor will have solved a similar problem in their own careers, such that users can benefit from their wisdom. There are options for one-off sessions, or you can form a longer-lasting relationship with a mentor. The idea, says Hoang, is that an engineer's education is focused heavily on "hard skills" around programming and systems design. The rest has to be learned. And for programmers-turned-leaders, it's often the "soft skills," like management and leadership, that need the most attention.Being a Plato mentor is a paid opportunity; the team interviews each mentor to get a sense for their strengths and experiences. The team is investing in technology to speed up the process of matching a mentee to a mentor - Hoang notes that Plato is already detecting common themes in customer questions, opening the door to automating parts of the process.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">PlatoSome of the questions Plato can help with.</div></div></div>"We all begin with a core competency, and we all need to evolve toward a leadership position," says Hoang.In a bigger-picture sense, Hoang says that companies anywhere in the world could benefit from a mentor at the biggest companies in Silicon Valley. Right now, it's focused largely on software teams, mainly because that's what Plato's team understands best. Hoang says that, in the not-so-distant future, it could expand to other job functions. Plato is also testing a program with Lyft to connect employees to mentors within the company, rather than outside it. The company has also begun hosting in-person networking events, featuring presentations by engineering leaders.<h2>Leaders lead</h2>Jason Lemkin, whose <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jason-lemkin-decision-to-go-solo-2016-6">SaaStr fund</a> led this investment round, says that the team's shift from Birdly to Plato was very welcome. He had invested in Birdly, not because he thought it was a good idea -"I have no interest in what you're doing," Lemkin recalls telling Hoang - but because he believed in Hoang himself. So the shift to Plato is very welcome, from Lemkin's perspective. He says that early in his career, when he most needed mentorship, he had no clue where to go or who to talk to."I had no clue as to how to develop such a relationship," says Yuan. This Silicon Valley company just got $3.3 million so everybody can learn from the CEO's past mistakes

Country’s premier educational institute, <keyword id="55119" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (<keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword>) Delhi is set to mentor 45 <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> entrepreneurs across the country. This would be a three month program aimed at encouraging women of the country to undertake entrepreneurial leaderships. Explaining the focus on women, V <keyword id="168635" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramgopal-Rao">Ramgopal Rao</keyword>, director, <keyword id="6431668" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Delhi">IIT-Delhi</keyword>, told <keyword id="6405564" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Times-Of-India">The Times of India</keyword> that "in spite of the fact that women entrepreneurs are more productive than men, there has been a decline in their presence and only 10% of all the start-ups are owned by them." 
 Dr <keyword id="6619" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rao">Rao</keyword> added that due to several social constraints, many girls did not get admission into IITs. "It is because of this that we will work with several government agencies to incubate and nurture ideas to compensate for the poor presence of women on the campus," he said. "We want to remove this exclusivity of IIT and make it more inclusive." NITI Ayog chief believes that the women start-ups nurtured by IIT would bring about a discernible change in the business ecosystem, especially in north India. WEE has been divided into two groups: an entry-level ideas group engaged with start-up ideas, funding and mentoring from IIT and an accelerators' business model.

Delhi will mentor women entrepreneurs for three months

<keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> on Tuesday announced its <keyword id="14193636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups-accelerator-programme" source="Orion">startups accelerator programme</keyword> that will nurture about 20 startups led by women founders in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. The programme is aimed to help women founders address challenges that are unique to their experience, including fundraising, hiring and many others. The inaugural batch of Google for <keyword id="8826137" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups-Accelerator" source="Orion">Startups Accelerator</keyword> - India Women Founders programme will accept up to 20 women-founded/ co-founded startups in India, including startups at the minimum viable product stage, and support them through a three-month programme. The programme will place special focus on areas like access to networks, access to capital, hiring challenges, mentorship and many others which, for a variety of social reasons and low representation, prove challenging for female founders. In addition to these, the curriculum will include workshops and support around AI/ML, Cloud, UX, android, web, product strategy and growth, as well as provide access to a global community of women founders. India is the world's third largest startup capital, trailing only the US and China. It boasts over a 100 unicorns with 22 getting added to the list just in 2022, spanning verticals such as e-commerce, healthtech, fintech and many others. However, only 15 per cent of these <keyword id="3357129" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-unicorns" source="Orion">Indian unicorns</keyword> have one or more women founders. "The new programme is part of a larger effort by Google towards improving the representation of women across different sections of India's digitally-trained workforce, be it entrepreneurship, professionals looking to upskill or young graduates seeking a head start on their career, with the ultimate objective of making technology universally relevant and helpful," the tech giant wrote in a blogpost. The applications for the programme are open till July 10, it added. Google to launch accelerator programme for women entrepreneurs in India

New Delhi, June 17 (IANS) In a bid to help parents come together and engage within their communities, Facebook has launched a new parenting group. More than 5.5 million people in India are part of active parenting groups on Facebook. "To help support these communities, we're launching a new Facebook group type  parenting. The new features will make it easier for parents to discover the right communities, and make it safer and easier to engage within them," said Grace Clapham, Head of Community Partnerships APAC, Facebook. The new parenting group type gives parents new ways to discover and engage with their communities. When admins select the parenting group type, they will unlock access to three unique features customized to the parenting experience - Anonymous Post, Badging and Mentorship. To enable members of a parenting group to make sensitive posts without revealing their identity, Anonymous Post are now available in Facebook parenting groups. "For example, if you're looking to share or receive feedback related to financial concerns or dealing with the loss of a child, posting anonymously can help you easily facilitate those discussions," Facebook said in a statement on Tuesday. Badges can help members identify themselves to groups members in regards to what stage in the parenting journey they are in. "We are also expanding our Mentorship feature to all parenting groups who select this group type. Software CEO Charles Phillips: You Can't Overcommunicate When It Comes To Building A Team

New Delhi, Dec 17 () Springboard, leading online learning platform for workforce upskilling, on Tuesday said it has raised USD 11 million (over Rs 78 crore) in funding led by Reach Capital.
 The post-series A financing round also saw participation by Pearson Ventures, International Finance Corporation (IFC), as well as returning investors Costanoa Ventures, Learn Capital, and Blue Fog Capital.
 The company, which has so far raised USD 20 million in funding, has also partnered with Microsoft to train and place 5,000 students into analytics jobs over the next three years through its new Data Analytics Career Track.
 "Working professionals have to significantly upskill or re-skill every 3-5 years to advance in their careers. Our industry-designed programmes combined with in-depth, 1-on-1 mentorship and career guidance enable people to achieve their full potential," Springboard India Managing Director Vivek Kumar said.
 He added that the funding will be used to expand operations, add more courses and bring in more talent to strengthen operations.
 The San Francisco-based company currently has over 130 people and plans to increase the headcount to about 200 over the next few quarters.
 Springboard has over 14,000 students, who have enrolled globally for its programmes. Earlier this year, Springboard launched three programmes in India.
 Kumar said the company plans to grow its Indian presence with more courses in design and software engineering. SR HRS

Making the announcement at the first "Facebook Fuel For India" virtual event, the photo-sharing app also introduced the second edition of the "Born on Instagram" creator program. "India is such an important country for us and has been a testing ground for innovation, thanks to the natural creativity and entrepreneurial spirit we see here," said Vishal Shah, Vice President of Product, Instagram at Facebook. "With the test of <keyword id="6662415" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="instagram-lite">Instagram Lite</keyword>, and the next edition of 'Born on Instagram', we're aiming to democratise expression and creativity for a greater number of people in India. It targets those who face Internet issues as a result of low memory phones and heavy-sized apps. The app is made for Android and this new version has improved speed, performance, and responsiveness, Instagram said. The experience is similar to the core Instagram app experience, though there are some features that are not currently supported such as Reels, Shopping and IGTV. The app will be available in Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu, the company said. It also announced the second version of "Born on Instagram", to equip the next generation of content creators with best practices to use the platform, and enable them with collaboration and mentorship opportunities. The programme was first announced in November 2019 to discover, grow and showcase creators from all across the country. Now in the next edition, the programme has been attuned to incorporate the new features on Instagram, especially Reels. It will go on for a period of six months and will continue to offer masterclasses from internal and external experts, as well as collaboration and mentorship opportunities. New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) In a bid to help Indian students create solutions for real-world problems, Google on Wednesday announced three teams as winners of its Build for Digital India programme launched in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics &amp; Information Technology (MeitY) last year. The three winning teams were selected from over 7,000 students from more than 1,000 universities in India. Google supported students to build their prototypes by providing them access to curated content across technologies like mobile, web, machine learning and cloud. The three teams are The Third Eye from MIT world Peace University, Maharashtra for their theme 'Smart Cities and Infrastructure'; Anukai Solutions from Chitkara University, Punjab for the theme 'Smart Cities &amp; Infrastructure'; and ISpeakFree.LY team from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Maharashtra for the theme 'Accessibility &amp; Disability'. "We congratulate these student teams and every student that participated in this six-month journey. We are confident that their entrepreneurial spirit and innovative solutions will help address areas that are core to India's challenges," said Paul Ravindranath, Programme Manager, Google India Developer Relations. Out of over 3,000 project submissions, Google shortlisted 61 projects to attend an in-person mentorship boot camps across four cities in India. Based on feedback shared by the mentors, top 15 projects were shortlisted, before selecting the three winners. "We are glad to see the result of the strong collaboration between MeitY and Google in mentoring and upskilling over 7,000 engineering and technology students with more than 3,000 strong ideas and prototypes that aim to solve for India," said Abhishek Singh, CEO, MyGov, Ministry of Electronics and IT.
