Isaacman, the founder and CEO of American payment processing company Shift4, who had commanded the Inspiration4 mission, announced the Polaris Programme, a first-of-its-kind effort to rapidly advance human spaceflight capabilities, while continuing to raise funds and awareness for important causes here on Earth. The programme will consist of up to three human spaceflight missions that will demonstrate new technologies, conduct extensive research, and ultimately culminate in the first flight of SpaceX's Starship with humans on board. The first mission is named <keyword id="13176218" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Polaris-Dawn" source="Orion">Polaris Dawn</keyword>, which is targeted to launch no earlier than the fourth quarter of 2022 from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Polaris Dawn mission has many first-time objectives, so the Polaris Programme chose a crew of experts who know each other well and have a foundation of trust they can build upon as they undergo the challenges of this mission. Menon is Mission Specialist and Medical Officer. In addition to Isaacman, the crew includes Menon, a veteran member of Isaacman's team Scott Poteet and SpaceX employee Sarah Gillis. During her tenure at SpaceX, Menon has led the implementation of Dragon's crew capabilities, helped create the crew communicator operator role, and developed critical operational responses to vehicle emergencies, such as a fire or cabin depressurisation. Anna served in mission control during multiple cargo and crew Dragon missions, including Demo-2, Crew-1, CRS-22, and CRS-23. Prior to SpaceX, she worked for seven years at NASA as a biomedical flight controller for the International Space Station. She is the wife of Indian-origin physician Anil Menon, a lieutenant colonel at the US Air Force, who was selected by NASA in December last year along with nine others to be astronauts for future missions. Anil Menon, 45, was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Ukrainian and Indian immigrants. He was SpaceX's first flight surgeon, helping to launch the company's first humans to space during NASA's SpaceX Demo-2 mission and building a medical organisation to support the human system during future missions. He previously served NASA as the crew flight surgeon for various expeditions taking astronauts to the International Space Station. SpaceX said the Dragon mission will take advantage of Falcon 9 and Dragon's maximum performance, flying higher than any Dragon mission to date and endeavouring to reach the highest Earth orbit ever flown. Dragon and the Polaris Dawn crew will spend up to five days in orbit, during which the crew will attempt the first-ever commercial spacewalk, conduct scientific research designed to advance both human health on Earth and our understanding of human health during future long-duration spaceflights, and be the first crew to test Starlink laser-based communications in space, providing valuable data for future space communications systems necessary for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, the company said. Yet, despite the time commitment, their children are still central to their lives."As we've gotten closer to her launch date, and we just finished my training, along the way we've discovered ways of involving the kids in these things — bringing them closer and making that distance seem smaller," Anil Menon said.For example, he brought his two kids, James and Grace, to his spacewalk training. And at SpaceX, the kids got to explore inside the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/spacex-cargo-dragon-sonic-boom-florida-jacksonville-splashdown-2021-10">Dragon mission capsule</a>. Plus, the couple said they love going to their kids' school to discuss their careers.Overcoming logistical challenges like these is why Anil believes that parenting is the best astronaut training there is."I certainly encourage parents to apply to this new astronaut program," he said. "If they can do that, then they can be an astronaut."<h2>Inspiring their kids to shoot for the moon</h2>Their hope isn't that their kids will follow in their footsteps and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mars-inspires-new-generation-of-astronauts-alyssa-carson-2020-7">become astronauts themselves</a>. "But hopefully they see that it's important to follow your passion. That's the model we're trying to demonstrate to them. Because you can tell kids anything, but I think actions speak louder than words."Setting that example is what motivates Anil and Anna Menon to keep saying yes to new opportunities, even if it means learning to adapt to new challenges, Anil said.

 <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword> caught up with <keyword id="1355290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tejas-Menon">Tejas Menon</keyword>, the man of the ‘music’ hour to chat about how crowdfunding an album makes sense for the musicians who want to ‘Make it happen’. 
 <keyword id="17256" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Menon">Menon</keyword> defines his music as ‘A range of influences including 80’s pop-rock, musical theater and adult-contemporary songwriters, developed into his unique style of lyric-heavy pop-rock.’ 
 The singer has played in popular music festivals like <keyword id="15277" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bacardi">Bacardi</keyword> NH7 Weekender, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, and Mahindra Blues Festival and he is comfortable both with playing in a band and just by himself and his acoustic guitar.

''For someone who released his first EP(Extended Play) ‘Small Victories’ in late 2014, I’m finally ready to do a full-length album called ‘Make it happen’ which will feature 10 songs. In the past two years, I did try to get a label on board for this but I felt that after performing all over the country, I’ll let the people who like my music help me out to do this by myself’’ he says, in an optimistic fervor. 
 
Taking the independent part to the next level literally, Menon believes that is easier than it has ever been to make a good album these days, however, good studios and album production still cost a great deal, wherein comes the crowd funding. 
 
 
 
The Campaign 
 Menon had started a campaign on the crowdfunding platform <keyword id="1927134" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wishberry">Wishberry</keyword>, which had an initial goal of Rs. 2 lakhs to be completed in 30 days, to fulfill costs like Studio Cost (Rs. 90000), Admin fees(Rs. 20000), Mixing (Rs. 50000), Mastering (Rs. 30000) and <keyword id="2426054" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="misc">Misc</keyword>. (Rs. 10000). As he’s hit the goal in under a day, the bigger goal has been set to Rs. 4 lakhs. 
 If he hits the new goal, <keyword id="6373601" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Dadlani">Vishal Dadlani</keyword>, the frontman of one of the first indie bands, Pentagram will feature on his album for a song called ‘Kindness’. 
 
For the fans, by the fans 
 
The incentive for the fans here is multifold, as Menon has decided to use the funds to give out rewards in forms of a copy of an album, an artsy signed poster, a songbook with all the lyrics, a deluxe edition of the album due to release later in the year, free passes to his gigs and much more. 
 
The rewards increase with the contribution as the campaign allows you to fund the project either in categories, or you can also be the rogue one and contribute any amount without any expectation of a reward. 
 
Menon has already started working on the album and expects it to release by May, this year by when all the contributors can expect to start reaping the rewards that they’ve sown. 
 
Crowdfunding for the win 
 Menon isn’t the first artist to have crowdfunded his album, with artists like <keyword id="1144733" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parvaaz">Parvaaz</keyword> with their album ‘<keyword id="226613" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baran">Baran</keyword>’ already doing it in 2014 and <keyword id="33360" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vasudha-Sharma">Vasudha Sharma</keyword>, another indie musician, did it for her album ‘Attuned spirits’ in 2013. 
 
''Crowdfunding is great as it reinstates the fact that they’re people who’re willing to back you up not just with compliments but with real investment, how big or small that might be,’’ says Menon about why he thinks it’s a great idea not just for social causes or businesses but also for creative geniuses to the likes of him.

 The 27-year old says that he’d like to collaborate with more artists and diversify his album further with Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk, R'nB, <keyword id="856224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electronica">Electronica</keyword> and Soul elements that he has used to create ''a seamless musical experience that has pushed well past his creative limits.’’

MAS Managing Director <keyword id="224150" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ravi-menon" source="Orion">Ravi Menon</keyword> said that the key lesson from the upheaval in the global crypto industry is clear: Investing in cryptocurrencies is highly risky. "MAS and relevant government agencies will take firm enforcement action if any entity is found to be conducting illegal activities or performing regulated activities without a license," he said after releasing the central bank's annual report. Menon said that reviews and public consultations are underway, among international standard-setting bodies and regulators, to strengthen regulation in the crypto areas. "MAS is targeting to consult on proposed measures in the next few months," he added. Governments the world over, including in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, are planning tough action against cryptocurrencies as the crypto world faces heightened uncertainties. The Indian government wants an international collaboration if such a ban has to be put into effect, said <keyword id="679937" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sitharaman" source="Orion">Sitharaman</keyword>. Menon said that some crypto players that have come under strain have been reported by the media as being "Singapore-based". "In reality, these so-called 'Singapore-based' crypto firms have little to do with crypto-related regulation in Singapore," he mentioned. "Vauld is currently not licensed by MAS nor has it sought any exemption from holding a licence under the Payment Services Act. It has submitted a licence application, which is pending review," Menon informed. The crypto industry globally is still evolving and regulation is still catching up with industry trends. MAS has sent repeated warnings against retail investments in cryptocurrencies. Next month, the authority will organise a dedicated seminar to share its strategies to develop Singapore as a digital asset hub. In a recent note to clients, Menon says the new sentiment indicator captures more detail and does a better job predicting the market's direction.As it stand now, the updated indicator shows that the benchmark <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500">S&amp;P 500</a> is on track for a decline of at least 2% in the next eight weeks, he says. If positioning stays the way it is and the economy doesn't improve, it could pose a larger obstacle for the market in the future."The likelihood of a positioning-driven sell-off in the near-term has increased," he writes. "If economic growth remains modest, extreme positioning could hamper stock returns going forward."In the past, Menon explains, Goldman measured sentiment using data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Now it's complementing that with eight other types of data to get the most accurate picture of how households, hedge funds, active mutual funds, foreign investors, and others are investing.Combined, those groups own 80% of stocks, Menon says. He explains that the updated sentiment indicator has been rising for three weeks and is giving off a "stretched" or high reading. Because sentiment is a contrarian indicator, that's a negative signal for stocks.Menon says that net exposure by <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hedge-funds-are-feeling-pain-after-a-stock-market-shift-2019-9">hedge funds</a> hasn't been this high since July 2018, and demand from foreign investors has risen to its highest level since March."Aggregate equity positioning is 1.2 standard deviations above average, indicating that positioning poses a downside risk to S&amp;P 500 returns in the near future," he writes. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who recently announced her looming withdrawal from <keyword id="6358883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="politics">politics</keyword>, threw her support behind Macron's idea, using his words "a real European" army, on Thursday.Macron said the alliance would protect Europe "with respect to China, Russia and even the United States of America," but the US is a treaty ally, and he didn't explain why he'd like to defend against a country he already extensively shares intelligence and bases with. "If you mean anything like what most people mean by an army, it's nonsense."The European Union already oversees a group of 28 small countries and works to help them integrate economically and militarily. The countries, mostly NATO members, already train together and, with EU help, standardize practices.But as Menon points out, "at the margins, there's loses of a country's autonomy." If small European countries pool resources for a joint venture, like an air transport fleet for example, they lose the ability to use that fleet whenever they want, Menon said.Importantly, the cooperation that happens today is bottom up, or with countries individually choosing to cooperate on projects and then creating a leadership structure to facilitate that. But a European army is "much more top down," said Menon. "A European commander tells European troops when to go to war... it's absolutely not happening," said Menon. While European countries may be unnerved by Trump's NATO-skepticism, their individual security needs and wants only really align on deterring war with Russia. Otherwise, each of the 28 EU members really have different goals, and Menon says it's almost impossible that the countries could ever agree on an objective. "[S]uch a force will just create additional layers" of red tape, wrote Stefan-Gady. "The EU can bring together foreign policy, policing policy, and intelligence coordination. Germany is "rather suspicious of French initiatives," said Menon.France has one of the bigger and more active militaries in Europe. While Germany may be up for increasing cooperation and forging closer ties, Macron's vision has "been about sending troops to places, and that the Germans aren't so keen on," said Menon."Germans are worried about being instrumentalized by the French as the French send troops off to their former colonies," in Africa, said Menon. The firm calculated that the assets managed by exchange-traded funds have increased 300% since 2011, versus 80% for mutual funds. But there are strategies that active managers can adopt to profit from the inflows to passive, Goldman's Arjun Menon said in a note to clients on Tuesday. One of them includes taking account of the small-cap stocks that are the most overweight with passive funds. The popular opinion among investors is that passive inflows are detrimental to small-cap stocks, Menon said. This was true in the early-mid 2000s but is no longer the case; in fact, flows and small-cap performance now have a positive relationship, according to Menon."Based on current passive equity fund positioning, stocks at the low end of the capitalization spectrum are likely to be the biggest beneficiaries of passive inflows," Menon said. "I wanted to understand who she was."The film follows Naomi as, recently denied a promotion, she attempts to one-up her male colleagues by taking the IPO for the newest social-media platform that's taking the world by storm.With only five months before cameras started rolling, Menon and Gunn worked on their prep. "The constant fight for relevance that I don't think men experience as acutely."This is highlighted in a scene in "Equity," where Naomi, while frantic on the day her IPO opens on the market, finds that while having a snack with her team, the chocolate-chip cookie she's given has less chocolate chips than the cookies her male counterparts received. This makes her goes ballistic.The scene is funny, but is also a social commentary on equal rights in the workplace that hasn't been lost on audiences. At the film's screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, many of the women in the audience cheered loudly during the scene."That's a story [Reiner and Thomas] was told of a real encounter that took place on the trading floor," said Menon."It was a scene that made us laugh in rehearsal, but we never realized the impact it would have with audiences," said Gunn.Sony Pictures Classics bought the film at this year's Sundance Film Festival and will release it on July 29. As word of mouth begins to grow for the film, Gunn hopes that there's not just an empowerment female audiences get from the movie, but also an understanding that in a position of authority "likability" is not a necessity.She said:That's one thing I'm proud this movie is exploring, the whole concept of being likable. I remember a lot of the women saying that, too, when I did research, "There's a fine line to walk." UC had launched men’s grooming and haircuts at home in the last quarter of 2019. “That is a category that has seen tremendous growth in the past few months and its actually buoyed our business significantly,” Menon added. However, the platform has had to work tremendously hard on categories like Salon at home, owing to the fact that it is a high proximity service. That’s where its advertising has helped it win its consumers’ trust back. The brand launched its ‘UC Safe Salon campaign’ which comprised TVCs featuring TV actors like <keyword id="166349" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Neena-Kulkarni">Neena Kulkarni</keyword> and <keyword id="27383" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shweta-Tiwari">Shweta Tiwari</keyword> who had themselves availed UC services. The aim was to spread the message about how safe its salon at home option was. “Following the launch of the campaigns, we've seen resurgence across all categories, some obviously moving faster than the others. And it's a function of sentiment and maturity across categories. To give you a sense of where we are relative to July, our salon category has grown by about 50-56% and that's been on the back of structural problem-solving, to deliver on the core quality of experience and safety. We’ve re-skinned the way we talk about ourselves in our communications,” he explained. The team built video communication for each of its services on its app to assure people about their safety protocols. And all these videos featured Tiwari. People responded to the videos, owing to the fact that Tiwari as a brand is relatable and trustworthy. The effort has also been towards coming up with offerings that drive value for consumers in the salon category. “Initiative like Super Saver Week and Salon Spree have helped us meet our monthly targets for the salon category,” he added. He also added that the pandemic provided tailwinds to the men’s grooming category which has seen around 57% growth since July and is coming close to the salon category in terms of volumes. Of new users and markets While the salon at home category had been a winner for UC, it launched its Men’s grooming services right before the lockdown. And owing to the fact that salons had to be shut for a long time, once the unlock process started, the brand saw a lot of demand for the men’s grooming services. And all of the people using these services are new users. It is also witnessing good demand for other services like painting and professional cleaning. And is the platform witnessing more demand from smaller cities? “A significant portion of our business still continues to remain in urban cities. However, our focus has also been on building demand in Tier II cities. We have tried to build relevance at a regional level through our influencer marketing programs, specifically in the salon and men's grooming business. On the salon business, through the month of September, we've worked with about 165 micro-influencers who have a following between the range of 5000- 50,000 but are locally relevant. The aim has been to drive resonance of salience on the message that UC salon services exist in your city, to reiterate our safety protocols and to introduce our roll-on waxing,” explained Menon. UC has also been trying to talk to the slightly older audience, to again assure them about the safety of their offerings, however, the demand is still being driven by the younger audience. Marketing strategies during and post lockdown Usually during the times of crisis, marketing budgets are the first to be cut off. For UC too, the marketing budgets were put on hold for the first two months of the pandemic. “However, once we saw some supply return to the platform, and there was a certain demand to supply ratio where demand was lagging, we activated our marketing budgets. It's been about tracking our numbers and coordinating with the rest of business to identify moments, categories and regions, in terms of building where demand needs to be built,” he explained. It is also spending its marketing monies in a phased manner. “Today we might be slightly below par to where we were pre-pandemic in terms of our marketing spends and that’s a conscious choice. We are spending and have invested on IPL. However, right now its more about optimizing our spends with a view of what the cost of conversion is, and build that based on the structural changes we’ve made to our business, to focus on quality and safety. The larger belief is that if we get these two things right and are able to drive it in a credible, demonstrable way when it comes to experiences, that in turn will lead to repeat business, and even word-of-mouth,” said Menon. TV and Digital continue to be the biggest spends for the platform. During the IPL, the brand launched a campaign with its brand ambassador of 2 years, Ayushmann Khurrana. The vision for Urban Company UC, which was formerly known as UrbanClap, was founded in 2014 with a handful of service professionals. In the last 6 years, the platform has diversified its business and has also expanded to global markets like Australia, Singapore, and the UAE. He was reported as saying the process could take 10 years. Well, I think that's probably quite accurate. Signing a trade deal with the European Union is going to take a lot of time, simply due to the nature of politics. There will be vested interests involved, everybody will be trying to get the best deal for their own narrow set of interests, and that tends to take time.""I have no criticisms of him in that score. He just showed the type of perspective civil servants should be showing."He added that the experienced diplomat was clearly becoming more unhappy in his role as Article 50 talks between Britain and European leaders approached. "It seems to me that he was just feeling increasingly uncomfortable in his role. The role he was given when appointed by David Cameron is a very different role to the one he was being asked to do now [under Theresa May]. He was clearly growing impatient."Menon was keen to stress, however, that although Rogers' departure came at a bad time for Theresa May, what it could mean for the government's negotiating team and Brexit process as a whole is being blown out of proportion."Rogers is someone with a lot of contacts in Brussels, but we've got quite a big diplomatic service and he's not irreplaceable. If he was getting genuinely frustrated with what the government was doing and how it was doing it then it might be better for all that he steps down."He added: "I think there's been a slightly hysterical reaction to him going, to be honest."On whether the rush to find a successor will delay the prime minister in invoking Article 50, Menon said: "No, I don't think so. May has set herself a deadline and I don't think she has any intention of missing it. I think the signal that would send out would be very negative. She is trying to present herself as being an organised, controlled prime minister and missing your own deadline would undermine that significantly."Menon and his colleagues at UK In A Changing Europe spend time observing the organs of government, particularly Whitehall, where May could choose to find Rogers' replacement.
