Amazon Mega Fashion Weekend Sale: Top deals and discounts

Similarly, Lifestyle department store chain offered flat 30% off, while Aldo gave 25% discount and Tommy Hilfiger offered 30% discount on the purchase of two products. Several other brands like Lifestyle, Aldo, Tommy Hilfiger, Scullers, Chemistry, Only, Aeropostale, and Forever 21, also offered discounts or other promotional offers in their stores. "The ongoing sale is a response to online. They (brands and retailers) don't want to be left out," said Suresh Singaravelu, executive director of retail at Prestige Estates Projects, operating Forum malls in south India and the UB City luxury mall in Bengaluru. "Competition is now not just within the brands but within the channels too," he added. With these offers, malls are seeing a jump in footfalls as well as gross turnover. Retailers, however, are of the opinion that these offers are not because of ongoing sales on e-commerce platforms. "Ours is neither a sale nor reaction to online sales. Ours is a specific category-led promotion, just for a day or 12 hours. Nothing beyond that," Vishnu Prasad, CEO of the Central chain, told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/amazon-flipkart-not-alone-even-offline-retailers-are-offering-huge-discounts/articleshow/58674951.cms">ET</a>. The stores that did the best on Black Friday are all discounters, revealing that Americans are more concerned about saving money than ever. 
Here are the winners, <a href="http://pull.db-gmresearch.com/cgi-bin/pull/DocPull/1602-9FFB/88065650/Black_Friday_Takeaways.pdf">according to</a> Deutsche Bank. 
<h3>1. Kohl's.</h3>
The discount department store lured big crowds with deals on electronics like the Xbox One. 
Big sales on towels, men's clothing, small appliances, and toys also contributed to the retailer's success, the <a href="http://pull.db-gmresearch.com/cgi-bin/pull/DocPull/1602-9FFB/88065650/Black_Friday_Takeaways.pdf">analysts write</a>. 
<h3>2. Family Dollar. </h3>
The dollar chain was the most surprising winner on Black Friday, according to Deutsche Bank analysts. 
Family Dollar's key to success this year was a buy one, get one free toy sale. Last year, the chain offered buy one, get one 70% off on toys. 
The deal brought in many budget-conscious consumers, according to the firm.
<h3>3. Wal-Mart.</h3>
While Wal-Mart's results weren't as impressive as Kohl's or Family Dollar, the analysts still believe it deserves a shout-out. 
The mega-retailer "performed very well in-store and impressed us with substantial sell-through on Black Friday deals in electronics," the analysts wrote. 
Wal-Mart's aggressive discounting in stores and online made it a winner for Black Friday.

Amazon Great Indian Festival: Best deals on fashion and beauty products

<keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, India's largest e-tailer, is likely to start another round of fund raising as it looks to expand its range of products in order to cater to a wider base of customers. According to media reports, it will seek about $1.5 billion and has started the process of identifying potential investors. 
 The <keyword id="35621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> giant has raised about $1.2 billion this year. It had recently held festival sales, giving steep discounts. Following the mega festive season sale in October, during which it shipped about 80 lakh items as compared to 50 lakh on average, Flipkart has revised its internal target to reach sales worth $4 billion by the end of the current financial year. 
 
The Bangalore-based company is looking to increase the number of product categories in which they have leadership. "It has built a lead in fashion with the Myntra acquisition. The same push needs to happen across categories," said Manish Saigal, managing director at advisory firm Alvarez and Marsal. 
 <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> India had recently launched its gourmet and speciality foods category with more than 155 brands, both domestic as well as imported. Another e-tailer, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, already sells products in these categories.

Flipkart To Raise $1.5 Billion, Looks Forward To Expand Its Product Range

Widespread popularity is the "kiss of death for trendy fashion brands, particularly those positioned in the up-market younger consumer sectors," industry expert Robin Lewis <a href="http://therobinreport.com/the-coming-crash-of-michael-korstake-it-to-the-bank/">writes on his blog</a>. 
Michael Kors has also has several brands at different price points, a strategy that could easily backfire, <a href="http://therobinreport.com/the-coming-crash-of-michael-korstake-it-to-the-bank/">Lewis says</a>. Kors has a high-end department store brand, a middle-market brand, and discount outlet stores. 
"Some would argue all of those segments will simply end up competing with each other, thus cannibalizing the top end of the spectrum," he writes. 
Lewis compares Michael Kors to Tommy Hilfiger, which reached its peak in the late '90s. 
Other aspirational brands have also seen a fall from grace. 
Coach, once the top aspirational brand in the world, has been unraveling for years amid competition from Michael Kors and Tory Burch. And Juicy Couture is in crisis after its signature sweatsuits fell out of fashion. 
About 70% of Coach's revenues are now from discounted outlet stores, Lewis writes. 
While outlet stores are a great way for brands to make quick cash, they erode brand value over time. 
"Once a brand is declared as too accessible and overexposed by its loyal customers, no amount of fashion trickery will bring it back," he says.

As customers shopped elsewhere, inventory began to pile up, and clearance racks became a mainstay at H&amp;M's stores. But investor confidence was short-lived, and <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-12-17/h-m-has-best-quarterly-sales-growth-in-three-years-on-discounts">analysts began to speculate</a> that the rapid sales growth was likely down to heavy discounting as H&amp;M pushed to clear leftover stock. As a result, the stock price fell once more at the end of 2018. Earlier this month, Business Insider spoke with the newly appointed president of H&amp;M's US operations, Martino Pessina, who was previously its head of global sales. In our conversation, Pessina emphasized that H&amp;M is well on its way to recovering after a tumultuous year and has a plan to get ahead in a new era of retail."We are in a much better place," he said, comparing H&amp;M's inventory position today versus 2017 and 2018. He said that 90% of the clearance racks in stores today are reductions from its most recent fall collection."The really old stock? That's gone," he said. <h2>Fewer discount racks and a more personalized shopping experience</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Business Insider/Mary HanburyDiscount racks have been a mainstay at H&amp;M.</div></div></div>Pessina likened discounts to a sugar addiction and said it's very hard to wean customers off of them. Despite this, he was adamant that discounting is not what the H&amp;M brand is about."It is not in line with our business idea," he said. "Deals kill creativity. It's a shortcut you do and it's great, and next year you have to do it even bigger, and then all of a sudden, all you do is deal planning."H&amp;M is not alone here. Heavy discounting has been the flavor of the past decade among many retailers."It's almost like a drug," Tiffany Hogan, a retail analyst for Kantar Retail, told <a href="https://www.businessoffashion.com/articles/intelligence/can-american-retailers-department-stores-jcrew-gap-quit-the-discounting-promotions-drug">Business of Fashion</a> in 2016, when discounting was prevalent. "We're on this 40% off drug that we pulse every weekend or even more frequently. What happens when you take away your promotions? Your shopper just kind of melts away because you know that you've trained them to come back on that 40% off day."In order to curb the discounts, H&amp;M needs to not only create products that are relevant and fashionable, but also make them in the correct quantities. When it comes to creating fashionable items, there are two factors at play: it needs to have a better grasp of what the customer wants and set the trend, and it needs to have an efficient supply chain to ensure that there are no delays in getting these new styles to the customer, ideally ahead of its competitors. In the first instance, the company is looking at how to use artificial intelligence to predict fashion trends and tailor the assortment in each store to create a more personalized experience."It becomes a pull system as compared to a push system," he said, adding that in the not-too-distant future, what you see in one New York store might differ from what you see in another nearby.By creating a more personalized shopping experience, H&amp;M could also trim down on the number of items it offers in the store."If you are able to be more accurate, then you are able to skip all those products that the customer doesn't want," he said. But all of this is redundant if the brand doesn't have a speedy supply chain to support it. "Sometimes you see things, but if you're slow at bringing them to the stores, it doesn't matter. It is more often a question of speed rather than the wrong idea," Pessina said.And in a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fast-fashion-is-getting-faster-2017-5">world where some stores can bring new items from design to sale in just over a week</a>, H&amp;M's once speedy six-month turnaround doesn't quite cut the mustard. To tackle this, H&amp;M is not only focusing on making its supply chain faster - some items can come from design to store in as little as five weeks - but also investing in making it more flexible. Its only real option is to bring these items to its full-price stores or sell them through its outlet centers (In the past, it has also been accused of burning excess inventory in a plant in Sweden. H&amp;M <a href="https://about.hm.com/en/media/news/general-2017/h-m-does-not-burn-functioning-clothes.html">strongly emphasized that this</a> did not include usable clothing - only clothing that was unsafe for consumers.)But excess clothing takes up valuable store space, puts pressure on margins, and creates a less appealing shopping experience for customers. Plus, it's an unwanted distraction for the brand."When you have too many garments you focus on getting rid of garments, rather than into promoting new garments," Pessina said.To handle this, the company is looking to invest in radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology to manage inventory levels. This technology would enable H&amp;M to track in real-time exactly what stock each store has, which means it can guarantee size availability without having an overwhelming amount of garments.Pessina said that this is currently being tested in six countries. Amazon announces Great Republic Day Sale with discounts and offers on gadgets, appliances and more

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Michael Loccisano/Getty Images</div></div></div><ul><li>Over the weekend, Victoria's Secret released promos offering discounts on its strongest brands, PINK and Body by Victoria, suggesting that its business is under pressure, Jefferies analyst Randal Konik said.</li><li>Konik believes the brand is losing its "pricing power" because the promotions train customers to always want a lower price for Victoria's Secret products.</li><li>Victoria's "sacred cow" - its PINK brand - is "really hurting," according to Konik.</li><li><a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/lb-stock">View Victoria's Secret parent L Brands stock price here.</a></li></ul>Victoria's Secret is leading its "sacred cow" to slaughter.Over the weekend, the company owned by <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/lb-stock">L Brands</a> started releasing bra and panty promotions for its PINK brand, long considered the primary growth engine and "sacred cow" for the fashion retailer, and its Body by Victoria line.This move was in line with previous promotions the company has undertaken in the past few months to try to draw in-store traffic and drive up sales. However, PINK is one of Victoria's most well-known brands and was often spared from promotions for the retailer's lesser known and more expensive products. That has changed."We believe PINK is on the precipice of collapse and core VS remains pressured so severe EPS risk remains," Jefferies analyst Randal Konik wrote in a note.Konik has warned that Victoria's Secret's <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/victorias-secret-l-brands-stock-price-biggest-driver-of-growth-is-peaking-2018-3-1017580291">promotions were eroding its "pricing power"</a> because by offering discounts on its products, customers are trained to always expect to pay less.The weekend's promotions for its "sacred cow" brand suggest that business is "really hurting," Konik says. The company offered a PINK panties promo of 10 panties for $35, dragging its average selling price down to $3.50 per unit. That's near the all time low of $3.11 per unit reached on March 15, according to Konik.The same applies to the lingerie retailer's Body by Victoria bras, which were promoted down to $25 each. The bras usually range from $44.50 to $54.50."This is really concerning because the PINK biz accounts for near 40% of total VS sales and the Body By Victoria bra line has traditionally been one of the brand's strongest and largest," Konik said. "Promoting key franchise businesses is bad for long-term brand strength and also signals significant earnings downside risk ahead."Konik maintained his price target of $30 per share, though he gave a bear case target of $23 per share.L Brands' current stock price was $37.33 per share.
