The company's founding family, the Khaitans, are looking to sell a big chunk of their 45% stake in the company, the report said. Eveready has been selling products in India since <a href="http://www.evereadyindia.com/about-us/legacy.aspx" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">1905</a>. It was incorporated as a company in 1934 and continued as a subsidiary of the US-based <keyword id="6387806" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-carbide">Union Carbide</keyword> Corporation for decades. It was 1993 when BM Khaitan and Williamson Magor came together to take control of the company after a bitter battle for control with the Nusli Wadia, who owned <keyword id="6383267" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bombay-dyeing">Bombay Dyeing</keyword>. The Kolkata-based Khaitans' business empire includes <keyword id="88194" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="McLeod-Russel">McLeod Russel</keyword>, Kilburn Engineering, and McNally Bharat, other than Eveready. McLeod Russel is the world's biggest bulk tea producer. Eveready, which the Khaitans bought for Rs 300 crore in 1993, had a revenue of ₹ $200 <keyword id="53215" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="million">million</keyword> in financial year ended March 2018. Dry cell batteries alone make for ₹950 crores of the turnover. The sellers are likely to seek a price that would value Eveready at about $500 million. Investors in India cheered the promoters' proposal to exit and the <keyword id="6368159" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock">stock</keyword> surged as much as 18% after the report before cooling off. However, the company is burdened with piling up debt. Shrinking profit margin has not helped the promoter's cause. Watching the Sensex can be misleading-- India's mid and small cap stocks have lost ₹2.4 trillion of investor wealth this year alone

The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> and the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> came back strongly on Friday as traders bought heavily into beaten down blue chips in the Index that shaved off 2.4 percent in the past four days. Buying returned into major companies after global markets stabilised late yesterday following China's devaluation of its currency earlier this week. 
 
Long positions were also seen in PSU banking shares, led by Punjab National Bank. Here is snapshot how stocks and indices are trading with special emphasis on the futures and options market.

Nifty jumped 136 points, or 1.6 percent, to 8,491 points. 
Sensex leapt 428 points, or 1.5%, to 27,977 points.

McLeod Russell brewed tea stocks on fire on Tuesday as bulk prices of the commodity firmed up further in Kolkata's auction markets. 
 
Weekly average prices for CTC leaf tea on a per kg basis stood at 163.57 rupees/kg on June 27, the latest data available, compared with 161.95 rupees on June 20th and 145.07 rupees on May 23rd. This upward trajectory is expected to continue. 
 
Meanwhile, Jayshree Tea jumped 18 percent to 79 rupees. Rossell Tea gained 10 percent to 100 rupees. Goodricke Tea rose 10% to 147.70 rupees.Warren Tea added 9 percent at 140 rupees and Mc Leod Russell up was 7 percent at 236.40 rupees on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Tea is hot and brewing in the markets today

Stocks ended lower on the markets today as traders took advantage of the early morning uptick to book profit in leading blue chips. 
 The <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> closed 35 points lower at 28,171 after hitting an intra-day high of 28,330 in the first 10 minutes of trade. Vedanta, NTPC and Hero Motor Co were the top losers. 
 The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword>, meanwhile, ended at at 8,510, losing 11 points over its previous close. HCL Tech, Vedanta and NTPC were the top losers on the Index where the Advance-Decline Ratio was 1:2. The only saving grace was that the Nifty closed above the crucial 8,500-point level. 
 
Among the other indices showing a smart uptrend were the CNX Banking index and the CNX Mid Cap index. Traders were particularly bullish on public sector banking stocks: Punjab National Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Bank of Baroda were the top gainers in the futures and options space. 
 
L&amp;T Finance Holdings surged more than 9 percent after the Economic Times reported American Private Equity Investor Warburg Pincus was in talks to pick up a 25 percent stake in the non banking finance company, which lends mainly to the real estate and the commercial vehicles space. 
 
Companies which use Crude Oil intermediates as their raw material inputs saw their stock prices react positively to a fall in crude oil price to 3-month lows. Asian Paints, Berger Paints, Kansai Nerolac and Akzo Nobel showed strong traction. Ditto for tyre companies such as TVS Srichakra, Apollo Tyres, J K Tyres, Ceat and MRF. 
 
Tea stocks were in favour after tea auction prices gained ground in Kolkata following news of drought in key producer Kenya. McLeod Russell, Jayshree Tea, Rossell Tea shone brightly in trade today.

 On March 5, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) superseded Yes Bank’s board and imposed a withdrawal limit of ₹50,000 on its customers for a month. Like many other banks in India, Yes Bank was stressed under a load of bad loans. However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) stepped against its probe on Kapoor due to the bank’s irregular credit practices leading to suspicions of money laundering and insider trading. The rise of a billionaire promoter Rana Kapoor started Yes Bank at a time when the country didn’t have many banking entrepreneurs. Uday Kotak was the only one leading the charge on private banking. And, Kapoor wanted to model Yes Bank after Kotak Mahindra Bank. He infused ₹200 crore capital with his brother-in-law Ashok Kapur, who is now deceased. A year later, the bank raised ₹300 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). Soon after its debut, Yes Bank stock became the apple of investor’s eye and it looked like nothing could go wrong. But it was a rocky ride for Yes Bank. Three years after it went for an IPO, Kapur the then chairman of Yes Bank died in 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack. <a href="https://qz.com/india/891891/once-an-intern-at-citibank-yes-banks-rana-kapoor-is-now-indias-newest-banking-billionaire/">His wife Madhu Kapur later inherited his 12% stake after a nasty court battle. </a> Over the span of a decade, the bank recorded a 30% increase in its profit during the October-December quarter of 2016.  In January 2019, he entered the billionaire club after his net worth surged. His 11.6% stake in the bank was now worth $1 billion, according to Bloomberg. For a while, it looked like Kapoor would achieve his dream as he became the second richest banker in India after Uday Kotak. He was looking to double Yes Bank’s market share from 1% to 2.5% in 2020. But little did he know that growth itself would punch a hole in the bank. The bank came on RBI’s radar for its penchant for loaning to corporates that other banks wouldn’t entertain and quoting high-interest rates.  In 2016, RBI’s assessments discovered that Yes Bank was sweeping a lot under the carpet. It had under-reported non-performing assets (NPAs) worth ₹4,176 crore ($580 million) for March 2016. In 2017, the extent of underreporting swelled to ₹6,355 crore. As a result, its plan to raise $1 billion through qualified institutional placement failed terribly, leading it to the funding crisis that eventually led to its downfall. Thanks to the many gimmicks, RBI also ousted Kapoor from the bank by <a href="https://qz.com/india/1396517/why-rbi-wants-yes-banks-rana-kapoor-to-go/">trimming his tenure to January, 2019. </a> Soon, many secrets came tumbling out. Nearly ₹10,000 crore worth loans (about 4% of all its loans) given under Rana Kapoor’s management were classified as high-risk. In simple words, loans that may turn bad in a year. In fact, Yes Bank had exposure to almost all the troubled groups and companies in the country — Jet Airways, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, Cox &amp; Kings, CG Power, Dewan Housing Finance (DHFL), Essar Shipping, Mcleod Russel, Cafe Coffee Day etc. Troubled Times Even after Yes Bank appointed Ravneet Gill as Rana Kapoor’s successor in March 2019, its troubles were far from over.  Soon, there were a flurry of rating downgrades from Moody’s and others after news about NPA’s doubling to 9.5% of total loans in FY21, started doing the rounds. Indian <keyword id="6354298" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="stocks">stocks</keyword> got off to a tepid start on Monday as traders partially exited positions on HCL Technologies Ltd. after the software services company reported in-line earnings for its first quarter. Reliance Industries led the gainers on the exchanges and modest gains were seen on pharma and fertiliser stocks. 
 The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> rose 8 points to trade at 8,246 at the start of the week. Reliance Industries, Vedanta, Lupin, Cairn and Wipro posted gains on the Index while Tata Motors, HCL Tech, Zee, ONGC and Tech Mahindra slipped in trade. The Nifty's Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 20/29 and RIL, Jet Airways and HCL Technologies were the top traded stocks on the National Stock Exchange. 
 Broader markets were bathed in green although gains were modest. The CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 indices rose more than 0.2 percent each. Gains were higher on the Mid Cap and Small Cap benchmarks. The trend was mixed on the sectoral indices with benchmarks representing the Auto, <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="finance">Finance</keyword>, IT and Media sectors slipping in trade. Strong gains were seen on the CNX Energy index as also on the pharma and PSU banking spaces. 
 Sentiment was soft on the Bombay Stock Exchange with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> gaining 87 points, or 0.3 percent, to 27,302 points. GAIL, Infosys, Bharti, Axis and Hero Motors were among the gainers while Bajaj Auto, Coal India and ICICI Bank figured on the losers list on the index where the Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 1:1. 
 
Reliance, Tata Motors and State Bank of India were the top traded stocks on the Sensex. 
 
Bulls were in control in the futures and options space, but only just. 89 futures advanced compared with 73 that fell. Mid Caps dominated the gainers list with Futures of Amtek Auto, Kaveri Seed, McLeod Russel and Hindustan Zinc surging ahead. Mild profit booking was seen on futures of LIC Housing Finance, Adani Enterprises, Grasim, Ceat and Power Grid. 
 
Godrej Consumer Products, Godfrey Philips, Revathi Equipment and Repro India were among the stocks ticking on the top volume buzzers charts.

Tepid start at the markets today

Indian stocks snapped a six-day winning streak as investors booked partial profit in front line counters even as traders ramped up some beaten down shares in the hope of further gains. Realty, <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="finance">Finance</keyword> and fertiliser stocks came under selling pressure even as cement and <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword> shares gained in trade. 
 The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> fell 48 points to end the day at 8,129 points. ITC, Idea, <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, GAIL and <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> were the top five losers on the index while Adani Ports, Hindalco, Vedanta, UltraTech and <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword> rose in trade. The Nifty had an Advance-Decline Ratio of 15/35 and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Axis Bank, HCL Tech were the most active shares on the index. 
 
Broad market indices also came under selling pressure with the CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 benchmarks losing at least 0.6 percent each. The lone gainer in the sectoral pack was the CNX Metals Index. Modest losses were recorded on benchmarks representing Realty, Pharma and FMCG sectors. The Auto and Energy space, too, came under selling pressure. 
 Sentiment was sideways on the Bombay Stock Exchange where the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> lost 190 points, or 0.7 percent, to 26,845 points. Reliance Industries, ICICI, <keyword id="45179" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NTPC">NTPC</keyword> and <keyword id="6359783" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bajaj-Auto">Bajaj Auto</keyword> came under selling pressure while Vedanta, Reddy's, Hero Motors and <keyword id="6354446" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BHEL">BHEL</keyword> posted modest gains. The Advance-Decline Ratio on the Index stood at 9/19 and M&amp;M, Tata Steel and Axis Bank were the most active stocks on the Sensex. 
 
Bears wrested control in the wider market with 1,480 shares falling compared with 1,265 stocks that rose above their Wednesday's closing prices. 
 
The mood was bearish in the futures and options space as well with just 49 futures gaining compared with 116 that recorded losses. McLeod Russel, UCO Bank and UltraTech were top gaining futures compared with Bharti Infratel, Divis Lab, and Century Textiles that slipped in trade. 
 
Avanti Feeds, Granules India and Can Fin Homes hit fresh highs in trade on the National Stock Exchange.

Indian markets resumed their bounce back rally on Monday as investors hunted for value in beaten down stocks near 13-month lows and traders went long on Realty, Power, Metals and banking futures. 
 The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> added 83 points to end the day at 7,872 points. As a result, the Advance-Decline Ratio was 43/7. NTPC, Vedanta, BPCL, Hindalco and Tata Steel were the top gainers on the Index while Cairn, Idea, Bajaj Auto, Maruti and TCS slipped in trade. 
 Amtek Auto, <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> and ICICI Bank were the top traded counters on the <keyword id="53581" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword> and all three stocks traded in positive territory. 
 
Broader benchmarks put a strong foot forward in trade today. CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 Indices gained more than 1 percent each. The CNX Mid Cap surged 1.4 percent while the CNX Small cap Index added 1 percent. All sector-specific indices inched higher on the National Stock Exchange: The Bank Nifty jumped 1.8 percent to 16,911 points. CNX Realty surged 2 percent; CNX PSU Bank Index surged 2.5 percent and smart gains were seen on CNX IT, CNX Metals and CNX Pharma indices. 
 The trend was equally strong on the <keyword id="43628" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bombay-stock-exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</keyword> with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> surging 247 points at 25,856 and 28 stocks advancing compared with just two that fell. Axis Bank, Wipro, State Bank of India and GAIL were the top gainers on the index while Bajaj Auto and Maruti lost steam. 
 
ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Tata Steel were the top traded stocks on the Sensex. 
 
The broader Advance-Decline Ratio was 1,693 stocks gaining compared with 948 that fell on the BSE. 
 
The futures and options space was dominated by the bulls as nearly all sectors posted smart gains in trade today. Amtek Auto topped the gainers list while Page Industries, Mcleod Russel and UPL fell in trade. Just Dial Futures showed the highest rise in volumes today as the company unveiled a new mobile phone based application to drive more traffic to its site. 
 
Venkey's Malwa Cotton, Parrys Sugar and Coromandel International made it to the top volume buzzers list on the NSE.
