"India is full of diversity and potential. There has never been a shortage of brainpower, manpower, or talent in India," said <keyword id="19996309" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mandaviya" source="keywords">Mandaviya</keyword> after launching the second phase of the programme at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. "Not just the cities, but even in our far-flung areas like the North-East, Coastal, Himalayan and tribal areas can have a quality sportsperson there." In the third Phase, the KIRTI program will include all 20 disciplines of the Khelo India scheme. The first phase of KIRTI was launched in Chandigarh on March 12 this year. "We need to have a steady stream of these high-performing assets and that's where KIRTI, a stepping stone to sporting excellence, comes into play. "Everyone will be given opportunities to develop their sports skills, whether they live in a village or a city, and whether they come from a poor background or otherwise." In Delhi, <keyword id="19950124" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sports-authority-of-india" source="keywords">Sports Authority of India</keyword> (SAI) shall conduct assessment of over 25000 MCD students in 12 zones and cover 5 major disciplines: Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, and Kho-Kho, for almost one month. Addressing school-going children, who attended the launch event, Mandaviya said, "Among you, there will certainly be an Olympic champion. American fast-food giant, <keyword id="14775" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="McDonalds">McDonalds</keyword> is set to replace its famous <keyword id="1378496" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Happy-Meal">Happy Meal</keyword> toys with non-plastic versions from next year as it tries to reduce its environmental impact, a media report said on Tuesday. The business said that from 2021 <keyword id="17573" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Happy">Happy</keyword> Meals will come with a soft toy, a book, or a paper-based toy, the London-based Metro newspaper reported. The fast-food giant hopes the effort will save more than 3,000 metric tonnes of plastic at its UK business from 2021, which would be its biggest single reduction to date. The company will start trialling the new toys from May, when parents and children will be offered to swap their plastic toys for a book or paper toy when they buy a meal. This will let customers choose to opt out of the plastic toys in every outlet. The company has in the past committed to reducing emissions by 36 per cent by the end of the decade, and to use recycled or renewable materials in all its packaging by 2025, the Metro newspaper said in its report. The company has removed the lids from its McFlurry ice creams, saving 385 tonnes of plastic, replaced its salad boxes with ones that can be recycled as paper, and rolled-out paper straws last year.

They all are reliable family cars with blue logos. How about KFC, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut and Burger King? They all are global fast food chains with either or both, red and yellow in their identities. And till about a decade ago, it was all fine and dandy till digital content clutter multiplied our brand exposure to a whopping 5000+ on an average day. And that meant the compelling need for acute differentiation over everything else. Let’s look at the topical industry of the year - EdTech. The whole industry came into being post digital burst. And in their identities, whilst catering to the same audiences their approach to <keyword id="9709248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="brand-colors">brand colors</keyword> couldn’t have been more drastically contrasting. Byju, India’s second most valuable startup at $10Bn adorns a bright purple, something which experts used to put in the segment of richness and royalty. Udemy with its coral shade usually seen in lifestyle brands has intentionally moved away from its launch color of grass green. Coursera on the other end of the spectrum is safely engulfed in the reliable blue (think sweet spot between the old and new Facebook color). And finally look at Khan Academy, a blend of sea green and ocean blue. I would argue brands colors are now both category and audience agnostic. And there are four reasons for this major paradigm shift. The Differentiation Paradox: Of course the trained mind might argue the above example is just an anomaly so let’s go back to the automobile category we opened our discussion with to see this point through. In the last decade, the new electric car segment is slowly overpowering old heavyweights. What’s interesting though is as much as these shiny, new kids stand for the same brand promise of blending sleek style, sustainability and automation, their colors try to intentionally stay as apart as possible. Leading the pack Tesla shines in its signature passion red, Faraday Future graces the color of powerplay jet black, Fisker has famously named its brand colors California sunset (orange) and Pacific ocean (blue), the Chinese born Byton decks a more luxurious grey and the adventure friendly Rivian chose orangish yellow. Superdry’s orange boasts of its fun and bold collection, Zara’s black promotes the high street range inspired by luxury fashion weeks. And why not, as the concept of brand colors needed to be synonymous with the “brand experience”. Now though, the audience is aware enough to know that just because Grab taxis are green, they don’t only move with an oil free, electric fleet. Honestly, as long as the story behind your choice of brand color is believable you can paint the canvas with whatever you wish for. Breaking the traditional need for popping colors, Unilever’s new age Talenti Gelato comes in a pure transparent identity to just focus on the product and cut the clutter in the ice cream shelf simultaneously. Ola, India’s answer to Uber uses an exclusive pear color something eponymous with sporty, not exactly a massy cab service using Wagon R &amp; Swift Dzire cars. But does it work? Quite brilliantly actually, the point of differentiation is well made and well reaped. The Niche Maze Before the digital era, market penetration used to be mostly about what the masses demanded. And honestly rightfully so, for neither there was internet to measure the size of niche interests nor a way to get them delivered online to spurt segments scattered all over. And what it has resulted in is making colors more unisex, boldly unique and universally acceptable. Lyft’s Magenta and Dunzo’s Mint Green paves way for many more to come in the coming decade. Let’s try to understand the repercussions of not having niche colors. In the Indian media ecosystem look at the known brands Zee News, NDTV, ABP News, Republic, Aaj Tak, BBC Hindi, The Wire and Firspost ALL have red in their logos. Let’s forget for a second if all these brands have similar personalities, experience or values of the color red. Let’s rather say in 2021 you want to start a media corporation catering to millennials. Don’t you think a berry blue or sunshine yellow will give you a niche identity distinctively apart from all your industry peers and make the consumer immediately associate you with the color no matter on which medium it is used? Reliance Jio certainly would have considered it while starting to slowly move towards Persian blue from its bright red similar to core competitors Airtel and Vodafone. So would have AirBnB while choosing a coral shade over their old blue similar to Booking’s identity. <div type="image" title="Color Logos Case" msid="77389917" hostid="261"></div> Content Overload: One of the most profitable industries inarguably today is the smartphone hub with over 1.5Bn average annual unit sales and still a long way in penetrating the global population. No matter where you are from, you can’t deflect from its plethora of content across platforms. Oppo and Vivo with their selfie camera positioning had planned a budget of INR 2200 crores for the Indian market to dwarf Samsung at its own game. Xiaomi, who finally did overthrow Samsung poured INR 3500 crores last year aiming at an even more aggressive advertising strategy. All pointing towards an inevitable content war subtly numbing the audiences to all headlines and creatives. And hence you see Xiaomi goes with a blazing orange, Oppo graces forest green, One Plus Christmas red, Google Pixel a more humbling grey to Apple’s black while Vivo goes for sailor blue. We aren’t talking about one off anomalies that used to happen in every category like Ferrari’s legendary lemon yellow backdrop whilst Audi, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Jaguar &amp; Lexus all go with the same kind of logo in metallic elements on their cars. These smartphone examples are of all category leaders and none come close to the other’s color no matter how close their audience, personality and brand experience might be. Now one of the major brand identity tests is to create a fictional character with a rich personality to match with your corporation’s values, vision and heart. The catch is, it only works if your audience feels that metaphor coming alive too. Otherwise as you will agree, every horse breeder can sell a Unicorn. And with all due respect the 2020s audiences have evolved from all color tones (and it’s kind of fair if not lovely). Now they are more interested and invested in what you actually do both with your offering and beyond it for the overall society. They know how to filter the frills from the flowers. Typography before color: The formula is minimal typography for maximum impact. Uber tweaked its logo element to a bolder no nonsense font of its name. Indian food delivery pioneers have removed their famous spoon and now just have Zomato written in a thicker and slightly curved style. The legendary Absolut Vodka which had a designer cursive line - ‘Country of Sweden’ in the logo itself has switched to just a navy blue Absolut enjoying the solitude. Visa has removed the card element last decade and even fired the fiery yellow edge to allow blue to engulf all of its typography on this one. Dominos have hit puberty late but by making the name come out of the inclined box they now demand complete attention. IHop, Dunkin... the list honestly keeps going on but the verdict is clear. Clarity of your name in the logo, something that can be read in a nanosecond during a digital post or banner is what works today. And when pure simplicity takes absolute precedent, intricate elements, three tone color schemes and parallel mascots take a backseat. Bold is the new black and clarity is the new color. Millennials demand this world to stop seeing colors, at least without any preconceived prejudices. And if anything the creative industry should be elated with this transformation, one less box to fit into. Let the old labels make way for legacy. In a bid to attract the middle class Indian who thinks twice before splurging on a costly meal, quick service restaurants had introduced entry-level prices and value meals for less than Rs 50. However, it didn’t get them much crowd, as a result of which, they are now going premium, so that they can bring in elite food lovers. 
 
McDonald's India, for example, has pitched itself as a mass-priced brand for over two decades now, but it has now launched its most expensive burger yet, the Maharaja Mac at Rs 145. Similarly, Dunkin' Donuts would soon be launching specialised coffees. Domino's Pizza tied up with celebrity chef Vikas Khanna last year in a bid to introduce European-styled pizzas and snacks which were priced upwards of Rs 250. Starting next month, the US burger chain Wendy's would be adding beer, wine and premium coffee to its Indian menu. 
 
"QSR was all about operations. Now, it is going back to being restaurants that offer customised and premium products," Jasper Reid, a director of the holding companies of Wendy's and Jamie's Italian in India, told ET. 
 
As per an internal study which was conducted by McDonald's last year, consumers now prefer products that are 'premium and satiating,’ which is why the world's largest restaurant chain saw a 10% jump from 2012 to 2015 in the premium offerings that it offered to young consumers in India.

The <keyword id="154198" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Disaster-Management-Authority">Delhi Disaster Management Authority</keyword> (<keyword id="661614" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="DDMA">DDMA</keyword>) in an order on Sunday stated that bars will be allowed to reopen with 50 per cent seating capacity, from 12 pm to 10 pm, from next week. The owners of restaurants and bars will be responsible for strict adherence to Covid safety measures and all official guidelines and norms, it said. Public parks, gardens and golf clubs will be reopened and outdoor yoga <keyword id="51986" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Activities">activities</keyword> will also be allowed, the DDMA stated in its order. Prohibited activities and services, including schools, colleges and educational institutions, cinemas, gyms, spas, all kinds of political, social, cultural, religious gatherings among others will remain closed till further orders or 5 am on June 28. The lockdown was imposed in <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> amid a surge in second wave of <keyword id="8763838" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword> on April 19. The prohibited and restricted activities, according to the DDMA order, will continue with effect from 5 AM on Monday till 5 AM on June 28 or further orders, whichever is earlier. Concerned district magistrates, district DCPs, deputy commissioners of municipal corporations and other officials as well as market and resident welfare associations will be responsible for ensuring Covid-appropriate behaviour and other guidelines at the markets, malls, restaurants, bars, public parks and gardens, the order said. "All district magistrates, district DCPs and other authorities concerned will take strict action against the defaulting persons, as per the applicable laws and rules, including closure of such establishments, business premises, weekly markets, public parks and gardens," it said. The owners of the restaurants and bars will be responsible for strict adherence to the prescribed SOPs, all instructions as well as guidelines of the central government and the Delhi government, and compliance of Covid-appropriate behaviour. "In case, any violation is found, strict penal/criminal action will be taken against the owner of the restaurant or bar," DDMA warned. Agencies like the MCD, <keyword id="51127" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="DDA">DDA</keyword>, NDMC that own parks and gardens as well as concerned <keyword id="56158" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RWA">RWA</keyword>, owners or directors of golf clubs and yoga instructors will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance of Covid-appropriate behaviour, stated the DDMA order. The order further cautioned that a very close watch and supervision will be maintained on the overall functioning of markets, market complexes, malls, restaurants and bars by the district magistrates, DCPs and other authorities concerned. "If in case it is found that the Covid-appropriate behaviour is not being followed or the positivity rate or the number of COVID-19 positive persons start increasing in Delhi, then markets, market complexes, malls, restaurants and bars will be closed forthwith without any loss of time," it warned. Other allowed activities like marriages at court or at home with maximum attendance of 20 persons, funerals with gathering of up to 20 persons, functioning of government and private offices with 50 percent staff, operation of Delhi Metro trains and public transport buses with 50 percent capacity for seating, will continue, added the DDMA order. Delhi government allows reopening of bars, public parks and gardens from Monday

The <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> Thursday refused to entertain a contempt plea filed by <keyword id="6365835" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-medical-association">Indian Medical Association</keyword> (IMA) against the Delhi Chief Secretary for alleged <keyword id="961315" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="non-payment-of-salaries">non-payment of salaries</keyword> to doctors and asked it to approach the high court which is dealing with the issue. A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah said the issue was being dealt with by the <keyword id="6355014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-high-court">Delhi High Court</keyword> and there is no point in entertaining this plea in the apex court. Senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for IMA, said the salary for April and May was paid after the high court's intervention but no salary was paid again from June to October. The bench said the high court had already passed its order on July 29 and it is monitoring the issue. Singh submitted that doctors are termed as frontline warriors and they have to be paid salary on time but there was no substantial hearing in the high court. He said that after the contempt application was filed in the top court, salaries for the months of June to October were paid to the doctors. Singh contended that doctors should be paid their salary on time to which the bench said that there is no doubt that salary has to be paid and Union of India has already passed an order in this regard. On July 29, the Delhi High Court had told the AAP government to release to the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NrDMC) the funds it requires to pay the stipends of the resident doctors in the six hospitals run by the civic body. The high court had asked the Delhi government to release within 15 days an amount of Rs 8 crore, as was done by it earlier, to NrDMC without waiting for completion of paperwork so that the resident doctors can be paid. It had observed that the resident doctors do not get a regular salary and instead they are only given stipends or emoluments which ought not to be denied to them. It had made it clear that the amount being released was meant solely for the purpose of paying the stipends or emoluments of the resident doctors in the six hospitals of NrDMC. It had also directed the corporation to complete all the paperwork in relation to the Rs 8 crore that would be released by the Delhi government and warned that failure to complete the formalities would lead to action against the officials concerned. The high court order had come while hearing a PIL initiated by it based on news reports that doctors of Kasturba Gandhi Hospital have threatened to resign as they have not been paid salaries since March this year. The news reports have also stated that recently the doctors of North MCD-run Hindu Rao hospital had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over non-payment of their salaries for the months of March, April and May. In its status report, filed in response to the plea, the corporation has said that salaries up to May of all resident doctors in hospitals run by the civic body have been paid. The corporation has also said in its report that the salary upto April of all of its regular doctors have also been paid. Supreme Court refuses to entertain contempt plea over non-payment of salaries to doctors

Cases of malaria are considerably higher so far when compared to last year. Delhi has reported 363 malaria cases till this month while the figure stood at 294 in the corresponding month in 2023. As per a PTI report, the total malaria cases last year were 426. Most malaria cases are reported from the West Delhi zone. As for Chikungunya, 43 cases have been reported so far. This is nearly double than last year when the figure stood at 23. A total of 65 cases of the virus were reported last year. The most number of chikungunya cases have been reported from the South Delhi zone this year. Last week, the city witnessed a spike of nearly 250 cases of dengue in seven days. As per Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) data from January till September 21, a total of 1,229 dengue cases have been reported in the city with the death of a 54-year old registered in Lok Nayak Hospital, a senior official at the hospital had confirmed. Delhi reported 651 cases of dengue this month. Last month, a total of 256 dengue cases were reported in the city. The number of cases has become three-digit since August, it said. Last year, Delhi reported 3,013 dengue cases till the corresponding month, a manifold increase from 525 in 2022. A total of 9,266 cases were reported in the entire year while 19 dengue deaths were registered in the city last year. In September alone, the figure stood at 2,141 cases in 2023. The most number of cases this year are reported from the Najafgarg zone at 180. In a week, 45 cases have been reported in the area, the highest of all the zones besides the south zone where an equal number of cases were reported this week. The non-MCD areas governed by other agencies like NDMC, Delhi Cantt, and Railways, reported 312 dengue cases to the total tally, as per the data. To enforce mosquito control laws, the MCD has issued over 1.14 lakh legal notices and 39,338 challans to those who allowed mosquito breeding on their properties. Repeat offenders have been fined Rs 24.82 lakh, and police complaints have been filed against 9,241 people who didn't follow the rules, as per the data. The civic body also plans to increase fogging operations at major upcoming public events like Dussehra and Durga Puja and step up inspections and anti-larval measures in areas with high mosquito populations to curb the infectivity of the virus. Delhi reports over 300 dengue cases in a week; malaria and chikungunya cases on the rise

The number of <keyword id="6360092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dengue" source="Orion">dengue</keyword> cases witnesses a sharp rise in September with more than 400 new infections being reported in the last week of the month. A total of 693 cases of dengue were reported last month till September 28, according to a report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday. The city recorded a total of 525 dengue cases till September 21 this year while 412 fresh cases were reported in the week that followed, taking the tally of the vector-borne disease in the city to 937 so far this year, it said. In 2015, the city had witnessed a massive dengue outbreak, with the number of cases crossing 10,600 in October. It was Delhi's worst dengue outbreak since 1996. Of the 937 total cases recorded till September 28 this year, 75 were reported in August. It is also the highest number of dengue cases logged during the January 1-September 28 period since 2017, when the corresponding figure was 2,152. No death has been reported so far this year due to the disease. A total of 125 cases of malaria and 23 cases of chikungunya have also been reported this year in Delhi till September 28, the report said. The MCD has said that it has been conducting drives to check the spread of dengue. Amid a spike in dengue cases in the national capital, many people down with viral infection are exhibiting "overlapping symptoms" of Covid and the vector-borne disease, leaving both patients and doctors perplexed about the exact diagnosis. Cases of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria are usually reported between July and November, sometimes stretching till mid-December. Its symptoms include high fever, headache, rash and muscle and joint pain, which are quite similar to that of Covid which also includes fever or chills, muscle or body aches, fatigue and headache among others. In such a situation it has become difficult to ascertain whether a person suffering from fever, body ache and headache is Covid positive or not, doctors said. Amid the continuous spurt in dengue cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently said that a plan has been devised to combat the vector-borne disease. Last year, 9,613 dengue cases were recorded in the city, the highest since 2015, along with 23 deaths -- the maximum since 2016. According to the MCD report, the city recorded 23 dengue cases in January, 16 in February, 22 in March, 20 in April, 30 in May, 32 in June and 26 in July. According to the MCD report, breeding of mosquito larvae has been found at 1,30,544 households this year till September 28. Authorities issued 96,189 legal notices for mosquitogenic conditions, and 35,668 prosecutions were launched. In 2018, Delhi had reported 481 dengue cases during the January 1-September 21 period, according to the report. The figures in 2019, 2020 and 2021 were -- 282, 212 and 273, respectively. Ten deaths each were reported due to dengue in 2016 and 2017, four in 2018 and two in 2019. The Delhi government on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Centre to urge it to shut down all 11 thermal power plants in the National Capital Region (NCR) in the backdrop of increasing pollution levels. Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain wrote the letter to Union Power Minister RK Singh on the issue. Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat, Jain asserted that these plants were the biggest contributors to the Delhi pollution. He also said that the Kejriwal government was the only one in the states which had shut down all its three thermal power plants. Jain also noted in his letter that the Delhi government had shown the path by shutting down its own power plants. Citing the Supreme Court's 2015 order, the Minister accused the central government of intending to allow two more years to the power stations in 2019 despite the apex court's order. He said that shutting down the 11 power plants will definitely make a difference in the pollution situation in Delhi. "In a bid to bring down the NCR pollution, the Delhi government shut down the Indraprastha power plant in 2009, Rajghat plant in 2015, and Badarpur plant in 2018 due to increased environmental concerns," the Minister said. "Delhi is the only state where no thermal power station is running." Responding to a question, Jain said that the Dadri power station, which causes immense pollution in the city despite crossing its threshold of completing 25 years, will allegedly be renewed by the central government. "Stubble-burning and power plants are the biggest contributors to the harmful air in Delhi. On air quality, every step counts," Jain said. "Delhi has alternative sources to generate power and there is no lack of it even during the peak hours. So, these thermal plants can be closed as it will not lead to reduction in power supply." On the issue of non-payment of salaries to the staff at the North MCD-run Hindu Rao Hospital, he reiterated that the civic body should hand over the hospitals to Delhi government. Jain said that MCD had earlier tried to transfer the hospitals to the Centre but they did not accept. "We give funds to the MCD, but we are unaware of the expenditure since they do not get audits done. A formal written proposal has been sent to the Centre to transfer these hospitals to the Delhi government," the Delhi Minister said.
