Ishant Sharma selected in 18-member squad for first two Tests vs England

The government recently compulsorily retired two <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IPS+officers&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IPS officers</a> on the basis of a performance review required to be held at the end of 15 and 25 years of service under the All-India service rules. This came out as a strong message to bureaucrats who fail to perform well in their careers. 
 The two officers are <keyword id="103483" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raj-Kumar">Raj Kumar</keyword> <keyword id="4077690" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="dewangan">Dewangan</keyword> from 1992 batch of <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword> cadre and <keyword id="4075048" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mayank-Sheel-Chohan">Mayank Sheel Chohan</keyword> from 1998 batch of AGMU cadre. They were found to have put in sub-optimal performance by the concerned state cadre on the basis of their service records, ACRs and assessment of their seniors. 
 The cadre-controlling authority of <keyword id="6405408" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPS-officers">IPS officers</keyword> , <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=home+ministry&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">home ministry</a>, approved the recommendation of the concerned state cadres to compulsorily retire them from service "in public interest". 
 
"A notice has been served on them and as per rules, they were given three months salary along with compulsory retirement orders duly approved by appointments committee of Cabinet (ACC)," an officer told TOI. 
 
The last time an IPS officer was 'compulsory retired' was nearly 10 to 15 years ago. It reportedly involved officers of Maharashtra cadre. 
 
"It is technically not a punishment but merely an action taken to remove officers seen as deadwood by their respective cadres and the Centre for not being serious in discharge of their duties. The compulsorily retired officer gets all post-retirement benefits," an officer told TOI. 
 
As per sources, two IAS officers were also compulsorily retired recently on the same grounds. 
 
Alternatively, the Centre may ask state to conduct such a review at any time it deems fit in case such a review has not been held at 15 or 25 years of service. 
 
As per rules, the bureaucrat found fit for compulsory retirement is either given at least three months notice in writing or three month's pay and allowances in lieu of such notice. The government, in the case of Dewangan and Chohan, opted for the latter.

After being excluded from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract this year after not participating for red-ball cricket, this is another big setback for Kishan, who has not been considered for international cricket despite participating and doing well in red-ball tournaments like Buchi Babu Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy recently. <h2>DC era 2.0 on cards?</h2> With wicketkeeper-batter and biggest superstar of the franchise, Pant released from the franchise and looking for a new franchise as per several media reports, Delhi Capitals could be moving to their 2.0 era, placing trust in young, under-the radar names like Axar Patel (235 runs with two fifties and 11 wickets in 2024), Tristan Stubbs (378 runs with three fifties and three wickets), Abhishek Porel (327 runs with two fifties) and Kuldeep Yadav (16 wickets at an average of 23.25) after good performances last year. Out of a total of 46 players retained across all franchises, 36 players are Indian. Out of these, 10 players are uncapped Indians stars. These players are Abhishek Porel, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Dayal. Online higher education platform upGrad on Thursday said it has acquired corporate training solutions provider <keyword id="138877" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="centum-learning" source="Orion">Centum Learning</keyword> in a share swap deal. The company did not disclose the deal size. With this transaction, Bharti Enterprises Limited and its affiliates will join upGrad's cap table. New Delhi-based <keyword id="4525766" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="centum" source="Orion">Centum</keyword> with 2,000 employees is likely to clock a revenue of Rs 170 crore in FY23. Centum's will continue to operate independently under <keyword id="646222" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanjay-bahl" source="Orion">Sanjay Bahl</keyword>, Managing Director and CEO, the company said in a statement. "upGrad has always seen enterprise upskilling as a strategic growth driver and we are making some nonlinear movements to reinvent B2B learning in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> and create an integrated LifeLongLearning ecosystem for our stakeholders," said Mayank Kumar, Co-founder and MD, upGrad. The edtech company said it is on track to record annual gross revenue of $400-500 million during FY23, out of which about 45 per cent of total revenue will be realised from its own-branded online courses and programmes. Started in 2015, the edtech platform has a learner base of over three million across more than 100 countries, over 300 university partners and a client base of 1,000 companies. Online education platform upGrad acquires Centum Learning to upskill enterprise workforce

Higher education platform <keyword id="2008319" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upgrad" source="Orion">upGrad</keyword> on Friday announced it has acquired online learning institution <keyword id="8535878" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="harappa-education" source="Orion">Harappa Education</keyword> for Rs 300 crore (about $38 million). upGrad closed the transaction with present <keyword id="265317" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="harappa" source="Orion">Harappa</keyword> shareholders - Bodhi Tree Systems (a newly-formed platform between James Murdoch and <keyword id="105547" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="uday-shankar" source="Orion">Uday Shankar</keyword>) and Co-Founders Pramath Raj Sinha and Shreyasi Singh. Harappa Education is likely to clock Rs 75 crore in revenue this year. "A combination of upskilling courses along with these critical skills that Harappa has to offer would set us apart.
