The Kia Sonet would be rolled out from the company’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh and would be first offered to Indian customers before being exported to over 70 markets including Middle-East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Kia Sonet pre-booking starts today— Here’s all you need to know about price, features and other details

In order to maintain the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Marutis-sales-rose-16-in-March-making-it-a-good-way-to-end-FY-15-16/articleshow/51648291.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">double-digit growth rate</a> that it had in the last fiscal, India's largest car maker <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> has decided to add one new car and a new variant of an existing model to its portfolio. Both the cars will be retailed only through Nexa, its premium dealership network. 
 
The New Delhi headquartered company will be rolling out a compact vehicle, christened as Ignis, while also launching a version of the Baleno compact which would be sold as RS variant. 
 
"We plan to drive in these two cars around the festive season," said Maruti Suzuki director (marketing and sales) R S Kalsi. As of now, the Nexa stores sell the S-Cross crossover and Baleno, because they are positioned as more upmarket and premium. 
 
The new compact car Ignis will be pitched to customers as a smart city car. Even though Nexa stores don’t have the variety of small cars, the company hopes to widen the choice at Nexa outlets with Ignis. Ignis was showcased at the auto expo at Greater Noida at the beginning of this year, describing it as a "smart compact urban vehicle". 
 
Baleno’s RS variant will come with a 1-litre direct injection, turbo-charged petrol engine, which would be more fuel-efficient, smaller in size and able to deliver a power output higher to the existing 1.2-litre petrol variant. It will carry a bold and aggressive design language, so that it can be pitched as a sportier variant. 
 
Baleno, which has been named after an earlier model from the company, has seen a sale of around 45,000 units. On the other hand, another new car from Maruti, Vitara Brezza, has seen over 38,000 bookings so far.

The sales numbers are out there for everyone to see. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> sold 5,563 buyers in March, while Ford’s EcoSport managed to sell around 1k units less, 4,456 units exactly. Mind, this was despite the huge price cut of around a lakh on average Ford offered. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=EcoSport&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">EcoSport</a> was the path-breaker in the segment, the lead in a segment it popularized. Its’s 1.5 litre punchy engine was pure Ford DNA, and its swanky interiors appealed to the urban adventurous. 
 
However, ever since the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Brezza</a> made its presence felt, the EcoSport has been facing the heat, despite the price cut. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Brezza</a> has a sleek cabin, roomier interiors, a packed feature list and the peace of mind that comes with the Maruti brand. 
 
There’s always the trademark Maruti fuel efficiency. The company claims <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Brezza</a> runs 24.3 kmpl, while the EcoSport lags a behind with 22.27kmpl. Another reason is that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> is currently available in diesel option only and that too at a much cheaper price corresponding to the diesel variants of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=EcoSport&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">EcoSport</a>. While this might not seem much, and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Brezza</a> may not outstrip the Ford by a large margin on any count, these small factors contribute to the overall buyer decision. Such is the demand for the new kid on the block <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Maruti Vitara Brezza</a> that it's led to a 5-month delivery time for the top-end variant. 
 
Mind, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+TUV300&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra’s TUV300</a> also created a lot of buzz with its entry, and aggressive price of Rs. 7.26 lakhs when it was launched in September last year. 
 
With the sales numbers showing a healthy growth in the passenger vehicles segment, the competition in the sub-compact SUV segment might just get even tougher if the country’s second bigger auto-maker <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hyundai&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Hyundai</a> decides to launch the sub-compact SUV Carlino concept it showcased at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Auto+Expo+2016&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Auto Expo</a> this year. Since another price cut is not an option, this might be the cue for Ford to give the good ole EcoSport a much-awaited facelift.

be the new benchmark in India’s sub-compact SUV segment

Car manufacturers have reported a significant growth in the fiscal that ended March’16. 
 
Overall, the sales numbers of India’s to three car-makers, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Maruti+Suzuki+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Maruti Suzuki India</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hyundai+Motors+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Hyundai Motors India</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> point at a healthy growth in the passenger vehicles segment. These top three manufacturers currently command 72.61% share in the passenger vehicles market. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hyundai+Motors+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Hyundai</a>’s sales grew by9.1%, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra</a>’s by 10%, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Honda</a>’s by 5% and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Motors&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tata Motors</a> witnessed a growth of 3% in domestic sales. Segment leader Maruti’s domestic sales saw a YoY growth of annual sales of 11.2% in Feb 2015-16. 
 
What are the numbers like? Believe it or not, <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India and <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Motor India, the country’s top two players have posted their best-ever domestic sales in the current fiscal. 
 
They reported an annual growth of 11.5% and 15.1% respectively. Second runner up <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> also reported a 6% hike in sales. This is after two consecutive double-digit declines in the last two fiscals. 
 
Overall, during FY 2015-16, these manufacturers have sold 2,026,282 units, registering a YoY growth of 11.62% from last fiscal’s 1,815,338 units. 
 
What fuelled the growth? 
Experts believe that a slew of new product launches, attractive interest rates and agreeable fuel prices played a big role in the demand for passenger vehicles throughout 2015-16. 
 
Challenges 
The regulatory environment and the fluctuating policy decisions arrested the overall growth potential for the industry. The current fiscal budget also taxed <keyword id="439075" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="luxury-vehicles">luxury vehicles</keyword> and SUVs, a segment that has seen strong growth in India in recent months. 
 
Company-wise performance: 
 
Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> India 
Maruti’s new models like the Baleno and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> are making a solid statement. Demand for the premium Ciaz sedan is up 28.9%. 
 
Maruti’s UVs, namely the Gypsy, S-Cross, Ertiga and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> are making a solid contribution. They together sold 13,894 units, up 123.4% YoY! Such is the demand for the new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Maruti Vitara Brezza</a> that it’s led to a 5-month delivery time for the top-end variant. 
 
Interestingly though, the entry level duo - Alto and Wagon R sold around 36,678 units. That’s down 8.7% YoY. Some say that is at the face of stiff competition from the likes of the Hyundai Eon and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Renault+Kwid&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Renault Kwid</a>. 
 
Hyundai Motor India: 
Hyundai clocked its highest-ever financial year domestic sales. The company sold a hefty 41,201 units in March 2016, up 4.24% YoY. 
 
Hyundai has achieved an all-time highest volume and highest-ever market share of over 17%. The company says the success is due to the strong performance of models like the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Creta&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Creta</a>, Elite i20 and Grand i10. 
 
Back in 2015, the Creta took the Indian market by storm. Clocking average monthly sales of around 7,000 units, the Creta has been among the top 10 most sold cars in the country. 
 
Mahindra &amp; Mahindra 
After two years of double-digit decline, M&amp;M is back on track with a 6% rise in total domestic passenger vehicles. In March 2016, M&amp;M’s passenger vehicles segment grew 21% YoY. 
 
M&amp;M reinvented its product strategy in 2015, and launched a total of nine new products. This paid off as products like the TUV300 and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=KUV100&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">KUV100</a> helped them grow.
