A leaked official email from Maruti Suzuki shows that the company will be stopping production for the Gypsy. The Gypsy which had become the nation's favourite right from its association with the Indian Army to its off-roading adventures, will not be accepting anymore fresh bookings. All throughout its journey in India, the second generation of the SUV was sold, whereas overseas the car had ramped up to head to the fourth generation. Internationally, the car was sold as ‘Suzuki Jimny’. The decision to discontinue the Gypsy came because Maruti would have had to bear a huge cost to ensure the car fits into the stricter safety and emission norms these days. It’s the end of the road for the iconic Maruti Suzuki Gypsy – showrooms asked to stop bookings

The country's largest carmaker <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India (MSI) witnessed a massive over two-fold drop in <keyword id="22637" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production" source="Orion">production</keyword> last month owing to the shortage of semiconductor chips. In a regulatory filing, the auto major reported total production of 81,278 units in September as compared with 1,66,086 units in September 2020. "Production volume of the company in September 2021 was affected due to electronic components shortage," it noted. MSI said total passenger vehicle production stood at 77,782 units last month, as against 1,61,668 units in September 2020. Production of <keyword id="913938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mini-cars" source="Orion">mini cars</keyword> comprising Alto and S-Presso models stood at 17,163 units last month as against 30,492 units a year ago. Similarly, manufacturing of compact cars, comprising WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire, declined to 29,272 units from 90,924 units earlier, MSI said. Production of utility vehicles -- Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6 -- dropped to 21,873 units last month from 26,648 units in the corresponding month of 2020. The company also reported a drop in the production of its Eeco van at 8,025 units last month as compared with 11,183 units in September 2020. MSI said production of its light commercial vehicle Super Carry stood at 3,496 units last month, as against 4,418 units in the year-ago month. MSI had reported a 8 per cent drop in total production in August on a yearly basis at 1,13,937 units. On August 31, the auto major had announced that it expects total vehicle production in September across its plants in <keyword id="41646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Haryana" source="Orion">Haryana</keyword> and Gujarat to be just 40 per cent of the normal output due to the semiconductor shortage. The company's production capacity at Gurgaon and Manesar plants in Haryana is around 15 lakh units per annum. Besides, Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Japan's <keyword id="100743" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki-motor-corporation" source="Orion">Suzuki Motor Corporation</keyword>, has an additional installed production capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum. SMG supplies cars exclusively to MSI. Semiconductors are silicon chips that cater to control and memory functions in products ranging from automobiles, computers and cell phones to various other electronic items. Maruti Suzuki reports over two-fold dip in production in September

New Delhi, Mar 6 () The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India cut production by 5.38 per cent in February at 1,40,933 units, according to a regulatory filing by the company. Maruti Suzuki India had produced a total of 1,48,959 units in the same month last year. Total passenger vehicle production stood at 1,40,370 units last month as against 1,47,550 units in February 2019, a decline of 4.87 per cent, it added. The company increased production of its mini cars comprising Alto, and S-Presso by 5.16 per cent at 29,676 units as against 28,221 units in the year-ago month. However, it reduced production of compact cars, including WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, OEM Model (Glanza supplied to Toyota) and Dzire by 5.55 per cent at 75,142 units as compared to 79,556 units in February last year. Production of mid-sized sedan Ciaz was at 2,950 units last month as against 2,729 units in the same period a year ago, an increase of 8 per cent, the company added. Similarly, utility vehicles consisting of Gypsy, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL-6 and S-Cross models also witnessed increase in production by 7.9 per cent at 21,737 units as compared to 20,146 units in the year-ago period. Maruti Suzuki cuts production by 5.38% in February

If reports are to be believed, Maruti has bagged a deal of 2,071 Gypsies that it needs to supply to Indian Army. 
 There were reports that Indian Army has picked <keyword id="140499" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-Scorpio">Mahindra Scorpio</keyword> and <keyword id="595044" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-safari">Tata Safari</keyword> to supply around 3,200 vehicles. 
 
A few officials, on condition of anonymity informed ET that the order under 'GS 500' category was placed a few weeks back and the deliveries will start in next few months. The reports also suggest that Maruti Suzuki will earn Rs 125 crore through the deal. 
 
"This order is part of the earlier tender. However, the company received the order very recently," said one of the sources. "The deliveries will start in the coming few months. There is a continuous discussion with the government for future orders too," he added. 
 A <keyword id="2953201" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki-spokesperson">Maruti Suzuki spokesperson</keyword> confirmed the agreement, but didn’t divulge other particulars of the deal. 
 
Started in 1985, the petrol-run Gypsy was overtaken by diesel-run SUVs long ago. Even after losing its charm in the consumer market, it remained the choicest vehicle of Indian Army and ever since then, it had maintained that stature. 
 
India’s one of the largest carmaker bagged its first order in 1991 and delivered 35,000 Gypsies to Indian Army and also became the single-largest vehicle supplier of Indian Army.

New Delhi, Jan 8 () The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday reported a 7.88 per cent increase in production in December at 1,15,949 units, the second successive month of hike after reducing it for nine months in a row due to demand slump.
 The company had produced 1,07,478 units in December 2018, Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing.
 The biggest hike in production was in the compact segment comprising new WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, OEM Model and Dzire, at 62,448 units as against 44,329 units in the year-ago month, an increase of 40.87 per cent.
 The mini segment consisting of Alto, S-Presso, old WagonR saw a 9.54 per cent decline at 25,613 units as compared to 28,314 units in the same month in 2018, it added.
 Utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL-6, S-Cross production stood at 19,825 units in Decmber 2019 as against 16,436 units in the same month a year ago, up 20.62 per cent, the company said.
 MSI said mid-sized sedan Ciaz production stood at 894 units as compared to 1,516 units in the corresponding month in 2018, while those of vans Eeco and Omni saw 62.16 percent cut at 6,182 units as compared to 16,338 units in the same month a year ago.
 Production of light commercial vehicle Super Carry increased to 987 units in December 2019 from 545 units in the year-ago month, the company added.
 In November last year also the company had increased its production 4.33 per cent, after having reduced output for nine straight months due to lower demand. The company produced a total of 1,41,834 units in November 2019 as against 1,35,946 units in the year-ago month. RKL RUJ

Maruti Suzuki production up 7.88 pc in Dec at 1,15,949 units

According to the company, its sales in the domestic market surged by 9.3% to 1,05,559 units as compared to 96,569 units in January 2014. 
 The sales of <keyword id="2046037" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ciaz">Ciaz</keyword>, Maruti’s mid-sized sedan launched in October last year, were as high as 6,005 units. Similarly, the sales of sport utility vehicles (SUVs), including <keyword id="24470" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="gypsy">Gypsy</keyword>, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, went up by 35% at 6,432 units from 4,763 units in the corresponding month last year. 
 However, the sale of small cars went down 7.3%. “Sales of mini segment cars, including, <keyword id="6412620" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alto">Alto</keyword> and WagonR, declined by 7.3% to 35,750 units as compared to 38,565 units in the year-ago month,” the company said. Moreover, not a single unit of its premium sedan Kizashi was sold during the month. 
 
Sales of vans like Omni and Eeco increased by 8.2% to 10,113 units as against 9,345 units in January 2014. 
 
The MSI’s exports surged by 88.9% to 11,047 units. It had sold 5,847 units in January last year.

Riding On Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki’s Sales Rise By 14% In January

 Thanks to a good monsoons, the <keyword id="1482858" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Seventh-Pay-Commission">Seventh Pay Commission</keyword> and reasonable inflation, the country's largest car maker’s domestic sales were at 1,37,321 units as against 1,06,083 units in the same month last year. This was the company's best ever monthly sales beating the previous best of 1,25,778 in July this year. 
 "The numbers are reflection of popularity, appreciation and acceptance of our range of models. Ciaz, Baleno, Vitara Brezza, S Cross continue to show good numbers and with customers support, they have emerged segment leaders," <keyword id="6392170" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MSI">MSI</keyword> Executive Director Marketing &amp; Sales R S <keyword id="357155" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kalsi">Kalsi</keyword> told a news agency. 
 
The company's sales of mini segment cars, including Alto and WagonR models, were at 44,395 during the month as against 35,570 units in the year-ago period, up 24.8 %. 
 
The compact segment comprising Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Baleno and Dzire models clocked sales of 50,324 units compared with 44,826 in September last year, up 12.3 %. 
 Utility vehicles consisting of Gypsy, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and <keyword id="856840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ertiga">Ertiga</keyword> saw sales of 18,423 units as against 6,331 in September last year, a jump of 191 %, the report added. 
 <keyword id="6374528" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Toyota">Toyota</keyword> Kirloskar Motor reported 6 % increase in domestic sales at 12,067 units in September as against 11,376 units in the same month last year. 
 "The recently launched <keyword id="3231108" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Innova-Crysta">Innova Crysta</keyword> has received an overwhelming response from the market, including Delhi and <keyword id="53426" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCR">NCR</keyword> region," TKM Director and Senior VP, Sales &amp; Marketing N Raja said, adding the lifting of the ban on diesel cars and SUVs with engine capacity of 2,000 cc and above has resulted in a waiting period of of 1.5 to 2 months for diesel Innova Crysta in Delhi. 
Ford India said its domestic sales rose 9% to 9,018 units last month as against 8,274 units in the same period a year ago.

After some decline in sales of automobiles in India, it seems the auto makers have shrugged off the losses and are accelerating forward. India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has reported 3.7 % rise in total sales in September at 1,13,759 units as against 1,09,742 units sold in the same month last year. 
 
Domestic sales increased by 6.8 % during the month to 1,06,083 units as against 99,290 units in September, 2014, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) elaborated in a press statement. Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, increased marginally to 35,570 units as compared to 35,547 units in the year-ago month. 
 
The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz and Dzire increased by 3.5 % to 44,826 units in September this year as against 43,304 units last year. The sale of its compact sedan Dzire Tour surged over two-fold during the month under review at 3,229 units as against 1,221 units in September, 2014. 
 
Launched last year, Ciaz has recorded a sale of 4,291 units. However, there was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month. The company said it sold 3,600 units of its newly launched premium crossover S-Cross during the last month. 
 
Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, rose by 5.9 % at 6,331 units in September this year from 5,980 units in the corresponding month last year. 
 
Sales of vans -- Omni and Eeco -- declined marginally to 11,836 units in September this year as compared to 11,863 units in the same period of previous year. 
 
Exports during the month declined by 26.6 per cent to 7,676 units as compared to 10,452 units in September last year, Maruti Suzuki said, adding that overseas shipment of around 3,500 units was delayed last month.

Maruti Suzuki’s sale is reaching top gear

Domestically, the company's sales increased 14.6% during the month to 1,18,895 units as against 1,03,719 units this time last year. 
However, it was in the sale of mini segment cars, like Alto and WagonR, that the company’s growth was halted since the sales declined 8.7% to 36,678 units from 40,159 units in March 2015. 
 
Sales of the compact segment, including Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire and Baleno, registered an increase of 20.9% to 46,786 units in March this year as compared to 38,710 units last year same month. 
 
The compact sedan Dzire Tour increased its sales by 21% during the month under review at 3,161 units as against 2,613 units in March 2015, while sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz rose 28.9% to 5,480 units during the month. Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, S-Cross and recently launched compact SUV Vitara Brezza surged over two-folds to 13,894 units in March this year from 6,218 units in the corresponding month last year. 
 
"The company ended 2015-16 with its highest ever sales of 14,29,248 units, a growth of 10.6 per cent. This comprises highest ever domestic sales of 13,05,351 units and 1,23,897 units of exports," MSI said. 
 
It added that the top four best-selling models in India were Alto, Dzire, Swift and WagonR, all of which are from Maruti Suzuki, for the fourth year in a row.

Maruti's sales rose 16% in March, making it a good way to end FY 15-16

Amidst the absurd drop in sales of car this year, Maruti Suzuki seems to have done a miracle. India’s largest automaker has reported a 13.8% rise in total sales in May, a PTI news report has confirmed. 
 
Compared to last year when the company had sold 1,00,925 units, this year it’s a whopping 1,14,825 units sold. 
 
As per a press statement issued by the car company, sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, too climbed 20.6 per cent to 35,062 units compared with 29,068 units in the year-ago period. 
 
Sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire declined 5.7 % to 41,926 units in May this year against 44,455 units last year while those of compact sedan Dzire Tour rose over over three-fold to 3,190 units in the month under review against 892 units in May 2014. 
Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, rose 6 % to 5,567 units in May this year from 5,253 units last year. 
 
The corresponding figure for vans, Omni and Eeco moved up 7.7 % to 11,602 units in May compared with 10,771 units last year. Exports during the month rose 20.3 % to 12,466 units compared with 10,365 units in May 2014, the press statement confirmed.

 The company said sales of the compact segment comprising <keyword id="6360068" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="swift">Swift</keyword>, <keyword id="47233" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Estilo">Estilo</keyword>, <keyword id="43819" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ritz">Ritz</keyword>, Dzire, and recently launched <keyword id="6379565" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="baleno">Baleno</keyword> increased by 37.7 per cent to 51,048 units in October this year as against 37,083 units a year ago. MSI said sales of its compact sedan <keyword id="2620421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dzire-Tour">Dzire Tour</keyword> surged over two-fold during the month under review at 3,418 units as against 1,408 units in October 2014. 

	The sales of company's mid-sized sedan Ciaz, which was launched in October 2014, stood at 5,890 units, down 7.2 per cent as against 6,345 units in the same period last year.
 

	There was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month.
 

	Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara, Ertiga and S-Cross rose by 56.5 per cent at 9,435 units in October this year from 6,027 units in the corresponding month last year.
 

	Sales of vans -- Omni and Eeco -- rose 30.8 per cent to 13,677 units in October this year as compared to 10,453 units in the same period of the previous year. Exports during the month rose by 90.4 per cent to 13,146 units as compared to 6,904 units in October last year, MSI said.

Believe it or not, <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India and <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Motor India, the country’s top two players have posted their best-ever domestic sales in the current fiscal. 
 
They reported an annual growth of 11.5% and 15.1% respectively. Second runner up <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> also reported a 6% hike in sales. This is after two consecutive double-digit declines in the last two fiscals. 
 
Overall, during FY 2015-16, these manufacturers have sold 2,026,282 units, registering a YoY growth of 11.62% from last fiscal’s 1,815,338 units. 
 
What fuelled the growth? 
Experts believe that a slew of new product launches, attractive interest rates and agreeable fuel prices played a big role in the demand for passenger vehicles throughout 2015-16. 
 
Challenges 
The regulatory environment and the fluctuating policy decisions arrested the overall growth potential for the industry. The current fiscal budget also taxed <keyword id="439075" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="luxury-vehicles">luxury vehicles</keyword> and SUVs, a segment that has seen strong growth in India in recent months. 
 
Company-wise performance: 
 
Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> India 
Maruti’s new models like the Baleno and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> are making a solid statement. Demand for the premium Ciaz sedan is up 28.9%. 
 
Maruti’s UVs, namely the Gypsy, S-Cross, Ertiga and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> are making a solid contribution. They together sold 13,894 units, up 123.4% YoY! Such is the demand for the new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Maruti Vitara Brezza</a> that it’s led to a 5-month delivery time for the top-end variant. 
 
Interestingly though, the entry level duo - Alto and Wagon R sold around 36,678 units. That’s down 8.7% YoY. Some say that is at the face of stiff competition from the likes of the Hyundai Eon and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Renault+Kwid&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Renault Kwid</a>. 
 
Hyundai Motor India: 
Hyundai clocked its highest-ever financial year domestic sales. The company sold a hefty 41,201 units in March 2016, up 4.24% YoY. 
 
Hyundai has achieved an all-time highest volume and highest-ever market share of over 17%. The company says the success is due to the strong performance of models like the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Creta&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Creta</a>, Elite i20 and Grand i10. 
 
Back in 2015, the Creta took the Indian market by storm. Clocking average monthly sales of around 7,000 units, the Creta has been among the top 10 most sold cars in the country. 
 
Mahindra &amp; Mahindra 
After two years of double-digit decline, M&amp;M is back on track with a 6% rise in total domestic passenger vehicles. In March 2016, M&amp;M’s passenger vehicles segment grew 21% YoY. 
 
M&amp;M reinvented its product strategy in 2015, and launched a total of nine new products. This paid off as products like the TUV300 and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=KUV100&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">KUV100</a> helped them grow.

India’s passenger vehicles
segment – scratching beneath the surface

	India’s largest carmaker Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> registered 33.5% sales growth in the month of June 2014. The company sold 1,12,773 cars, higher than some analysts’ expectations of about 100,000 units. It has sold 84,455 cars in the corresponding month last year. 
 

	In terms of exports, the passenger car manufacturer witnessed 58.4% growth in sales to 11,809 units as compared to 7,453 units in the same month last year.
 The sales of the small car segment, including Alto 800, Wagon R and A-Star, went up by 52.1% to 47,618 units as compared to 31,314 units in the year-ago period. On the other hand, the sales of the <keyword id="2395914" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="compact-hatchbacks">compact hatchbacks</keyword>, comprising of Swift, Estilo, Celerio, and Ritz, grew by 6.2% to 22,293 units in the month, as compared to 20,996 units in the same month last year. 

	The sales of Maruti’s compact sedan DZire increased by 27.4% at 15,990 units up against 12,548 units during the same time in 2013. Notably, minimal growth of 2.5% at 322 units was registered in its only C-segment sedan SX4 in comparison to 314 units sold in June 2013. The premium sedan- Kizashi on the other hand, failed to attract any of the buyers in the country.
 

	Looking at the growth pattern of the utility vehicle (UV) segment, that includes Gypsy, Grand Vitara and the Ertiga, the sales grew marginally at 5,003 units in June this year as compared to 4,997 units last year. Interestingly, many customers have opted for Omni and Eeco, as the two vans outperformed in the month with 9,738 units in June this year as compared to 6,833 units last year. This resulted in 42.5% of hefty growth.
 It is important to note that <keyword id="6356916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="excise-duty">excise duty</keyword> for small cars (under 4m), which have the largest share in sales, continues to remains at 8%, SUVs carry 24%, while 20% duties are applied on the big cars. Maruti Suzuki’s June Sales Beat Estimates, Register 33% Growth

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/35945994.cms" /> India's largest car-maker <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India (MSI) reported 19.2% rise in total sales in May to 1,00,925 units as against 84,677 units in the same month last year. 
 
The car-maker said its domestic sales surged 16.4% during the month to 90,560 units as against 77,821 units in May 2013. 
 
In its filings with the stock exchanges, Maruti reported that the sales of mini segment cars, including M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, declined by 7.5% to 29,068 units as compared to 31,427 units in the year-ago month. 
 But the compact segment, where Maruti has <keyword id="6360068" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="swift">Swift</keyword>, Estilo and Ritz models, recorded a 53.9% jump in sales to 26,394 units in May this year compared with 17,147 vehicles during May 2013. 
 MSI said sales of its popular compact sedan <keyword id="20080" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="dzire">Dzire</keyword> registered a 9.8% growth during the month under review to 18,953 units as against 17,265 units in May last year. 
 
Maruti's mid-sized sedan SX4 recorded a drop of 75.9% to 121 units as against 503 units in the same month in 2013. There was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month. 
 In the utility vehicles segment (Gypsy, Grand Vitara and <keyword id="856840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ertiga">Ertiga</keyword>), sales increased 22% to 5,253 units in May this year (4,307 units in the same month in 2013) and sales of vans with Omni and Eeco models, zoomed 50.2% to 10,771 units ( 7,172 vehicles). 
 
Exports during the month rose 51.2% to 10,365 units as compared to 6,856 units in May last year, the statement added.
