Maruti Suzuki is going to turn India into its global manufacturing hub for its upcoming premium compact car ‘Baleno’, which will debut in India on October 26. 
 
Suzuki, which has 56% stake in Maruti, will start exporting its upcoming ‘Baleno’ to over 100 countries, including Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, etc. 
 
This is Maruti Suzuki's first attempt in the premium compact segment and will make a. Baleno was unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show in September and will compete with Hyundai's Elite i20 and Honda's Jazz, among others. 
 
Baleno will have a 1.2litre petrol engine (manual and automatic variants) and 1.3-litre diesel engine. 
 
"Baleno has been developed for the global markets and India will be the exclusive manufacturing hub for the car," R S Kalsi, executive director (marketing and sales) at Maruti Suzuki, told TOI here. 
 
This will be a big achievement for the company and workers at Manesar factory said that it was a proud moment for them as a vehicle made at Indian facility will be sold in Japan. 
 
After S-Cross, Baleno will be the second car to be sold through Maruti's premium retail network 'Nexa'.

‘Made in India’ Maruti Baleno to ply on international roads soon

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=maruti+suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</a> launched sophisticated <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=baleno">Baleno</a> at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh in petrol version, while the top diesel model is priced at Rs 8.11 lakh. 
 
The automaker is eying the premium hatchback segment and its Baleno will compete with Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz, etc. 
 
Baleno’s petrol automatic variant, having continuously variable transmission (CVT), will be sold at Rs 6.76 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). 
 
Maruti's NEXA dealerships have already received display and demo units. 
 
Baleno is fitted with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=apple+carplay">Apple CarPlay</a> and MSI will be the first OEM in India to offer it.

The model also has features including multi-information speedometer and UV reduction glasses. 
 Baleno is not only for the Indian market as <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> will also manufacture and export the hatchback for 100 global markets. 
 
"Baleno is a real global model to satisfy our customers not only in India but also across global markets," said MSI Managing Director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa, adding “the model comes with sophisticated design and advanced technology.” 
 
MSI and its supplier partners have raked in Rs 1,060 crore in Baleno’s development. 
 
Around 5-5.3 lakh compact segment cars are sold every year in India. 
 
Maruti Suzuki plans to launch several models this fiscal and has set a target of achieving two million sales annually by 2020.

Maruti Suzuki launches the Baleno, its most ambitious yet at Rs 4.99 lakh

<ul><li><keyword id="6374528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="toyota">Toyota</keyword> will be launching <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>’s <keyword id="6379565" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="baleno">Baleno</keyword> under their brand starting next financial year.</li><li>Cross-badging is a concept that, in the past, has only yielded temperate results for automobile companies. </li><li>That being said, Suzuki’s and Toyota’s respective competitive advantages are complementary to each other which may play in their favour.</li></ul>A partnership that was cemented earlier this year between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota is bringing their first project to fruition. A crowd favorite, the Baleno will be the first vehicle to be cross-badged between the two companies. In the first year, somewhere between 20,000 to 25,000 Maruti Suzuki Balenos will be shipped off to the Toyota Motor Corporation. The <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Auto/YAsSEGIGNJpjFrNaJzKzdO/Baleno-to-be-the-first-Maruti-Suzuki-car-to-be-sold-as-a-Toy.html">report by Mint</a> indicates that this will be an annual exchange. Once Toyota has the cars, they will be selling them through their own dealership network starting Q1 of FY 2018-19. Their respective competitive advantages are complimentary in nature but might not be enough to solve the dilemma of how successful cross-badging will be in India. What is cross-badging? To cross-badge a car essentially means launching the same car under a different brand with some minor alterations that are, more often than not, only superficial. Even with the Baleno, plans indicate that the car will undergo some interior and exterior changes that could include alterations to the head lights, tail lamps and the front grill of the car. But, here’s the thing, cross-badging isn’t a concept that India is familiar with and past projects have performed the usual humdrum way. And, the Baleno isn’t the end of the road for Toyota either. The company has plans of launching Suzuki’s Brezza under their brand as well while Suzuki will introduce the Corolla under their banner. Mutual benefits This partnership utilises the <keyword id="1700148" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Competitive-Advantage">competitive advantage</keyword> of each company in a complementary manner. It’s essentially <keyword id="1673374" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ricardo">Ricardo</keyword>’s trade theory playing out in real life where one entity trades its most efficient product against its counterpart’s most efficient product. David Ricardo developed the classical theory of comparative advantage in 1817 to explain why countries engage in international trade even when one country's workers are more efficient at producing every single good than workers in other countries. While Toyota has the hang of the executive sedan segment, they haven’t had much luck in the lower-end of the market. And the opposite is true for Maruti Suzuki. It’s not that Toyota hasn’t tried. The Etios was their attempt at cracking India’s most high-volume segment of <keyword id="6381299" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobiles">automobiles</keyword>, but alas, the car wasn’t able to make a substantial mark. And, this isn’t only true with India. Toyota may be on the track to become to world’s third largest automobile player with investments all over the globe but they’re yet to capitalise in the densest markets around the world. With the Baleno and the Brezza, Toyota will have another shot at making an impact in the competitive hatchback segment of automobiles in India. More than dominating the market on product alone, economics of scale will also come into play once Suzuki starts manufacturing the Baleno from Toyota’s plant in Karnataka by repurposing the currently unutilised capacity of the hub. And it’s not that Suzuki will get the short end of stick. More than using the Corolla to further expand their market share in the executive sedan segment, Toyota’s pool of knowledge, when it comes to electrical vehicles (EVs), holds greater utility for the company. In the past, a similar partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki didn’t yield any results. Partnerships have were also pursued between Volkswagen and Tata as well as Mahindra and Ford without substantial outcomes. On the other hand, the Renault and Nissan alliance brought about the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano SUVs. Even the partnership between Volkswagen and Skoda yielded the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. All these cars did decently well in this country. The Suzuki and Toyota partnership can thus work either way, we’ll have to wait and watch.

Baleno will now be a Toyota vehicle

After giving back to back successes with <keyword id="6379565" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="baleno">Baleno</keyword> and Ciaz, India’s largest car producer went for a facelift of its popular product, <keyword id="6360068" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="swift">Swift</keyword>. Launched decades back, Swift has already experienced a facelift a few years back. 
 The 2017 <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Swift has a radical exterior and a sporty interior, car experts claim. The car is expected to be launched in India late this year or early next year. 
 Look wise, the car stands out from its older generation. However the car is expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine as the current car. Built on the same platform of Baleno, the chassis will be a bit lighter and give an edge to the fuel economy that <keyword id="6912" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti">Maruti</keyword> is always known for. 
 
 
As the photos of new Swift started doing round in the internet, car experts and enthusiasts somehow felt the new Swift looks copied from other cars. 
 It’s not the first time that Maruti Suzuki is facing this allegation. When Alto 800, the low priced car of ambitious Indian middle class was launched in 2012, the car’s front bumper, headlights, and front grill resembled that of old <keyword id="6355174" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ford">Ford</keyword> Figo.

The side seems to be inspired from the <keyword id="709856" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mini-Cooper">MINI Cooper</keyword> while the rear will surely confuse people with the Toyota Etios Liva but we can see the design has been influenced from Suzuki's own Baleno hatchback.” “The design of the rear door handles are similar to the <keyword id="55200" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chevrolet">Chevrolet</keyword> Beat. That's a lot of cars in the all new Maruti Swift."

New Delhi, Maruti Suzuki India on Friday said it is recalling 7,213 units of its Baleno RS model due to a suspected defect in vacuum pump, which assists brake function. The recall will impact vehicles manufactured between October 27, 2016 and November 1, 2019, Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing. "It is suspected that there is a possible defect in vacuum pump, which assists the brake function. In a rare case, the affected vehicle may require increased effort in brake pedal application," it said. Affected vehicle owners will be receiving communication from Maruti Suzuki authorised dealer workshops for replacement of the defective parts, free of cost, the company said. In a post on its website, Maruti Suzuki India also said it would be undertaking a service campaign for 676 vehicles of Ertiga and XL6 model manufactured between June 24, 2022 and July 7, 2022 for suspected issue in front driveshaft, which in a rare case may generate a peculiar noise while turning the vehicle but does not impact the functioning. In January this year, the company had recalled 17,362 units of models Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza, Baleno and Grand Vitara to replace faulty airbag controller. The affected were manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023.

Maruti Suzuki to recall 7,213 units of Baleno RS model due to suspected defect in vacuum pump

<keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India Ltd, the country's leading carmaker, will recall 77,380 vehicles to upgrade the airbag controller software and replace a <keyword id="3381469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="faulty-fuel-filter">faulty fuel filter</keyword>, the company said in a statement on Friday. Maruti, controlled by Japan's <keyword id="111052" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor">Suzuki Motor</keyword> Corp, will recall 75,419 <keyword id="3381468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baleno-cars">Baleno cars</keyword>, including 17,231 units of exports, manufactured between August 3, 2015 and May 17, 2016 to upgrade the airbag controller software. 

	Of these, 15,995 Baleno diesel cars, manufactured between August 3, 2015 and March 22, 2016, will also be inspected for a faulty fuel filter, which will be replaced.
 

	Maruti will also recall 1,961 DZire diesel hatchback cars, with auto-shift gear technology, to inspect and replace a faulty fuel filter, it said in the statement.
 

	Dealers will start reaching out to buyers from May 31.

Maruti Suzuki to recall 77,380 vehicles

<keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Motor’s Indian arm <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> is going to develop a new generation <keyword id="6412620" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alto">Alto</keyword> and strengthen its hold in the entry-car space. 
 Alto’s share dropped nearly to 40% -48% with the launch of <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> Kwid. Kwid, however, has been able to gain almost 20% of the segment sales. The average monthly sales of the Alto have come down to 19,000-20,000 from 21,500 in the last fiscal year. 
 
 As per the sources, the company has started working on the project which internally is being called Y1K. The <keyword id="3734807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-generation-Alto">new-generation Alto</keyword> is most likely to be launched by the festive season of 2019. The car will be the most expressive Alto anyone has ever seen and may even sport a crossover deign, they said. 
 
As the car will be engineered and made in India, it will be tailored as per the Indian market need. 
 
"While the company has made strong headway in the premium end of the market with the Baleno, Vitara Brezza and Ciaz, it will never lose sight of its bread-and-butter segment ... as the largest carmaker, Maruti needs to have a solid option for the prospective buyer and Y1K is an initiative on that front,” a person in Maruti Suzuki asking anonymity, told ET. 
 
The new-generation Alto will be engineered and designed based on a new platform so as to meet new regulations. "The hardware and technology will come from Suzuki, the putting together of hardware - that is design, engineering and validation will be all done by the Indian team with local inputs” a second person told ET. A Maruti spokesperson said as a policy, the company does not comment on future product plans. 
 
Maruti has lost share in the entry A car space, but has been expanding the share B segment, priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh and led by the new Baleno, Ciaz and Brezza. 
 
Maruti is most likely to revamp its WagonR hatchback and Celrio tool in the next three years as part of its plan to launch 15 new products by 2020.

Maruti Suzuki to revamp its Alto hatchback

In order to maintain the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Marutis-sales-rose-16-in-March-making-it-a-good-way-to-end-FY-15-16/articleshow/51648291.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">double-digit growth rate</a> that it had in the last fiscal, India's largest car maker <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> has decided to add one new car and a new variant of an existing model to its portfolio. Both the cars will be retailed only through Nexa, its premium dealership network. 
 
The New Delhi headquartered company will be rolling out a compact vehicle, christened as Ignis, while also launching a version of the Baleno compact which would be sold as RS variant. 
 
"We plan to drive in these two cars around the festive season," said Maruti Suzuki director (marketing and sales) R S Kalsi. As of now, the Nexa stores sell the S-Cross crossover and Baleno, because they are positioned as more upmarket and premium. 
 
The new compact car Ignis will be pitched to customers as a smart city car. Even though Nexa stores don’t have the variety of small cars, the company hopes to widen the choice at Nexa outlets with Ignis. Ignis was showcased at the auto expo at Greater Noida at the beginning of this year, describing it as a "smart compact urban vehicle". 
 
Baleno’s RS variant will come with a 1-litre direct injection, turbo-charged petrol engine, which would be more fuel-efficient, smaller in size and able to deliver a power output higher to the existing 1.2-litre petrol variant. It will carry a bold and aggressive design language, so that it can be pitched as a sportier variant. 
 
Baleno, which has been named after an earlier model from the company, has seen a sale of around 45,000 units. On the other hand, another new car from Maruti, Vitara Brezza, has seen over 38,000 bookings so far.
