<ul class="summary-list"><li>Good friends help each other get better business deals, just like Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg.</li><li>Stewart told The Wall Street Journal that she "learned how to negotiate even better than ever" from the rapper.</li></ul><p>Martha Stewart, 83, might have been <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/martha-stewart-net-worth-makes-spends-her-millions">America's first self-made female billionaire</a>, but it doesn't mean that she can't learn a thing or two about doing business from her good friend, Snoop Dogg, 53.</p><p>In an interview with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.wsj.com/style/martha-stewart-netflix-documentary-snoop-dogg-book-autobiography-b44fa501?st=3xghJ6&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink">The Wall Street Journal</a> published on Monday, Stewart says she "learned how to negotiate even better than ever," thanks to guidance from the rap icon.</p><p>"We do a lot of work together, and I wait for him to negotiate the contract, then I go and follow him," Stewart told the Journal.</p><p>The pair first met in 2008 while filming a segment on "The Martha Stewart Show," during which they <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/timeline-martha-stewart-snoop-dogg-friendship-2021-2">made mashed potatoes together</a>. They've appeared together on different TV programs in the years since and even collaborated on a joint cooking show on VH1 in 2016, which was called "Martha &amp; Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party."</p><p>"She presents an opportunity, we present it to a network and we make some things happen," Snoop Dogg told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://people.com/snoop-dogg-working-with-friend-martha-stewart-exclusive-8716999">People</a> in a September interview.</p><p>As good friends, they also help each other get better business deals, Snoop Dogg said.</p><p>"It's been numerous calls where she would call me and be like, 'Snoop, I was trying to get you to do a deal with Skechers, but your people was in the middle. They didn't want to do it.' I'm like, 'For real?' She's like, 'Yeah, you should fuck with them. Look at my shoes,'" the "Drop It Like It's Hot" rapper said, recalling his friend's words.</p><p>The Skechers x Snoop Dogg collaboration was announced in August  2023.</p><p>Likewise, he's helped the lifestyle entrepreneur secure a deal with wine brand 19 Crimes.</p><p>"On the flip side of that, I got the 19 Crimes wine deal, red wine, we popping off. Boom, boom, boom. 'Hey Martha, what's happening? You ain't got no wine deal. You want to come on over here and play with us?'" <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/snoop-dogg-has-love-and-respect-for-donald-trump-2024-1">Snoop Dogg</a> said.</p><p>This led to Stewart launching her new wine, 19 Crimes' Martha's Chard.</p><p>"Now, they got our bottles back to back," Snoop Dogg added.</p><p>In the same interview with People, Stewart said she really appreciated her friendship with the rapper.</p><p>"He is curious, he is a great student, he is a phenomenal negotiator (he's taught me a lot), he's tough, and he is ultra sweet," Stewart said. </p><p>Representatives for Stewart and Snoop Dogg did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Business Insider outside regular hours.</p>

"The show is working. Why not get rocking?"</p><p>Salsano's excitement over the show's renewal is shared by its stars, who broke the news to their followers Monday afternoon on Twitter.</p><p><div></div></p><p>"The hardest thing in the world is to do a season one," Salsano said of what she's learning from shooting the first season of the cooking show. "Getting to do season two is always like the exhale moment of OK, now, let's perfect it. You can look back and see things that you love, what the audience loved."</p><p>And Snoop and Stewart have no shortage of recipes.</p><p>"To be honest, it was hard to come up with just 10 things they wanted to make," the executive producer told us. "It was like Russian Roulette. To be honest, it is, and you're just grateful for the opportunities," Salsano recently told Business Insider of being behind another hit for Viacom, which owns both MTV and VH1.</span></span></p><p><span><span style="font-weight: 400;">"I feel like a lot of times it's about taking a risk," she continued. "</span></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">It's like they are a unit. They exist. It's not fake. It's not put on. It's just what it is. That's why I think it feels so good because you have two people that genuinely love each other and respect each other, for real."</span></p><p><span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Getting them to do the show together was one thing, but finding time to tape it when they were both available was another. In the end, they shot 10 episodes in 5 days. There was no pilot shot, nor were there any rehearsals.</span></span></p><p><span><span style="font-weight: 400;">"You do what works for them," Salsano said. "They just block out a time together. I mean, they worked it out amongst themselves. Snoop was on tour, he's still on tour, and he had a break in his tour and basically we shot it during his break. In 2004, Stewart was found guilty on charges related to insider trading, and she spent five months in jail. </p><p>But since the scandal, Stewart has only come back stronger. She was raised in Nutley, New Jersey. </p><p>By the time Stewart was in high school, she had started her modeling career, which continued into her time at Barnard College. Her first career was as a stockbroker at a boutique firm, but her passions lay elsewhere. </p><p>After moving with her husband to Westport, Connecticut, Stewart threw herself into renovating a farmhouse built in 1805 on Turkey Hill Road - a house that would become an iconic part of her lifestyle brand.</p><p>She started a catering company, which cooked gourmet meals for as many as 1,500 people at a time and <a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/197700">exploded into a $1 million business.</a></p><p>The catering business also led to the book that launched her career. </p><p>Publishing executive Alan Mirken saw Stewart's potential when she was catering a book-launch party, and he <a href="http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1989-03-16/features/8901160882_1_rahn-seminars-books/2">encouraged her to write a cookbook herself.</a> The result was her first book, published in 1982 and titled "Entertaining." </p><h2>Becoming a "one-woman, multimillion-dollar industry"</h2><h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>AP</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></h2><p>"Entertaining" was a hit and sold 625,000 copies,<a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/197700"> according to Entrepreneur magazine.</a> </p><p>Stewart quickly followed it up with more books, including "Martha Stewart's Quick Cook Menus," "The Wedding Planner," and "Martha Stewart's Christmas." She became a regular guest on TV programs like "The Oprah Winfrey Show" while growing into a role as the go-to home-cooking guru for millions of Americans. By the late 1980s, people would spend $900 to fly to Connecticut for a three-day <a href="http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1989-03-16/features/8901160882_1_rahn-seminars-books">"entertaining seminar" at Turkey Hill. </a></p><p>"Today, the 48-year-old former model and Wall Street stockbroker is a one-woman, multimillion-dollar industry whose name has become synonymous with gracious living," <a href="http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1989-03-16/features/8901160882_1_rahn-seminars-books/2">The Sun-Sentinel reported in 1989. </a></p><p>Stewart launched a magazine, Martha Stewart Living, in 1991. In 1997, she took over ownership of the magazine from Time Inc. by founding<a href="http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2015/06/22/glance-at-history-martha-stewart-living-omnimedia0.html"> Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, </a>which also included her books and TV show. Stewart was chairman, president, and CEO of the company. </p><p>The success required hard work - and some sacrifices. Mirken told The Sun-Sentinel that Stewart worked "28 hours a day and [made] commitments for 56."</p><p>This intense work ethic seems to have contributed to Stewart's divorce in 1990. </p><p>"I had to sacrifice a marriage because of the lure of the great job, the fabulous workplace," Stewart <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/22/pf/martha-stewart-balance/index.html">told CNN recently. </a>"But, I don't regret it at all, because what I've done is something bigger and better than just one marriage. </p><h2>Stewart's downfall</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Jemal Countess/Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>In 2002, Stewart was hit hard by scandal when news broke that the US Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating her for insider trading. Suddenly, Stewart could no longer <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/more-ridiculousness-147281">focus on her salads,</a> but instead was swamped with negative press and forced to step down as Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's CEO. </p><p>In 2003, the SEC charged Stewart for insider trading, saying she sold stock in a biopharmaceutical company in late 2001 after receiving an unlawful tip from her former stockbroker. In March 2004, she was found guilty<a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4459824/ns/dateline_nbc/t/martha-stewart-fall-icon/#.Wk-qu1Q-fVo"> on all counts, </a>including on charges of obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and making false statements. </p><p>"When judge said count 1, you could hear this gasp," NBC News correspondent Ann Thompson reported at the time. "No one could believe it, no matter how you thought the trial was going, that this would be happening to this woman who is one of the biggest celebrities in this country of making false statements."</p><p>Stewart served five months in West Virginia's Alderson Federal Prison Camp.
