<ul class="summary-list"><li>Blink-182's Tom DeLonge wanted to retire from music until he learned about Mark Hoppus' cancer diagnosis.</li><li>In a <a href="https://youtu.be/aFaQWJcgTkQ?si=vMvNLsnPTlpKv3zW">trailer</a> for their upcoming album, the band reflected on their music careers and their friendship.</li></ul><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/took-woman-26-years-to-see-blink-182-play-live-2023-5">Blink-182</a>'s Tom DeLonge was thinking of retiring from music — until he found out bandmate Mark Hoppus had cancer.</p><p>In a new <a href="https://youtu.be/aFaQWJcgTkQ?si=U_9vT8fKe95zXUx5">trailer video</a> promoting the band's upcoming album "One More Time," DeLonge opened up about how Hoppus' diagnosis led him to change his mind about retirement.</p><p>"I remember telling my wife now, like, 'I don't think I'm ever going to play music again, I don't think I'm ever going to tour again,'" DeLonge said in the video. "Until Mark told me he was sick, and then I was like, that was the only thing I wanted to do."</p>    <p>Hoppus was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in April 2021, per <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2021/12/mark-hoppus-cancer-lymphoma-instagram-gq-interview-blink-182?redirectURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vanityfair.com%2Fstyle%2F2021%2F12%2Fmark-hoppus-cancer-lymphoma-instagram-gq-interview-blink-182">Vanity Fair</a>.</p><p>Months later, in September 2021, he announced that he was <a href="https://www.insider.com/blink-182-mark-hoppus-says-he-is-cancer-free-lymphoma-2021-9">cancer-free</a>.</p><p>"When I found out that I got sick, I was really shitty, weak, brain, like, eaten with the chemotherapy, in pain and everything else, just a hollow shell," Hoppus said in the video about his experience battling cancer.</p><p>He went on to explain how his bandmates — DeLonge in particular — were doing their best to help lift his spirits.</p><p>"I got so sick of hearing Tom's positive shit. I really did," Hoppus said. "Like, 'You're going to do great, you're going to get through this, you're going crush this,' on the days I just wanted to wallow. I don't wanna be positive."</p><p>DeLonge added that their decision to start making music as a band again wasn't about "fame or money or how big Blink was," but a chance to support each other through their own personal struggles.</p><p>"When he told me he was sick, that was like the gnarliest…That's like, nothing matters, really," DeLonge said.</p><p>In the video, drummer <a href="https://www.insider.com/travis-barker-flies-on-airplane-for-the-first-time-since-2008-crash-2021-8">Travis Barker</a> also took a moment to reflect on the meaning behind their upcoming title track.</p><p>"On the album, 'One More Time' is kind of written about, like, why does it take these catastrophes like me being in a plane crash and Mark being sick for our band to get back together?" "It's horrible that it took something like that for everyone to wake up, but we realized, man, life's short! My blood's trying to kill me," Hoppus said, according to a<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3ZLX1swZPM&amp;t=24s=24s" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> video</a> of the livestream shared online. </p><p>Hoppus said he was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma stage 4-A.</p><p>According to the <a href="https://lymphoma.org/aboutlymphoma/nhl/dlbcl/">Lymphoma Research Foundation</a>, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is an "aggressive" non-Hodgkin lymphoma that affects the white blood cells.</p><p>"My classification is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma stage IV-A, which means, as I understand it, it's entered four parts of my body," Hoppus said. "I don't know how exactly they determine the four-part of it, but it's entered enough parts of my body that I'm stage IV, which I think is the highest that it goes. So, I'm stage IV-A." </p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/blink-182-mark-hoppus-says-he-has-cancer-im-scared-2021-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">He first spoke about his cancer diagnosis in June</a>, saying that "it sucks and I'm scared."</p><p>Hoppus one week later opened up about <a href="https://www.insider.com/blink-182-mark-hoppus-cancer-update-describes-chemotherapy-2021-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">undergoing chemotherapy and the difficulties he</a> experienced from the treatment. He previously said some rounds of chemotherapy made him feel like "a poisoned electrified zombie."</p><p>During the Q&amp;A, Hoppus said the diagnosis brought him and his mother closer. </p><p>"Oddly enough, we have the exact form of cancer," Hoppus said. I've actually watched movies and walked around and cleaned the house and hung out with my dogs," he continued. So we'll take it as a win."</p><p>The 49-year-old rocker said he's still too sick to go out or see people, as getting "any infection of any kind" would be very dangerous in his "immunocompromised situation."</p><p>"I can't go anywhere right now. I wanted to go to the Dodgers last night. I can't. I want to go hang out with friends and go to a restaurant. I can't," Hoppus said. "My white blood cell count is way too low for me to go out so I am stuck trying to get better. That's alright, I'll take it."</p><p>He said even just walking up "a very gradual incline" leaves him "very out of breath" and exhausted.</p><p>"If I get better, I'm gonna go everywhere again," he added, replying to a question about a future Blink-182 tour. "I would like to see the whole world again several times."</p><p>In revealing his diagnosis to fans, Hoppus said he felt "scared," but also lucky to have "incredible doctors" and a solid support system.</p><p>"I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I'm trying to remain hopeful and positive," he said in a statement shared on Twitter.</p><p>Hoppus has not clarified what kind of cancer he has. <ul class="summary-list"><li>I grew up in South America listening to all the popular punk bands from the 90s and 00s. </li><li>As an adult, I've been trying to go see all my favorite bands from when I was growing up. </li></ul><p>When I heard <a href="https://www.insider.com/blink182-among-list-of-common-passwords-users-should-avoid-using-2019-4">Blink-182</a> was going back on tour after <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/blink-182-reunite-with-tom-delonge-world-tour-new-music-1234608662/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tom DeLonge's second return</a> to the band, I was determined to finally see them live. <br /><br />When Blink became mainstream in the late '90s, I heard about them from my high school boyfriend in Brazil. I remember carrying "Dude Ranch" — the band's 1997 album — in my JanSport backpack, ready to play the CD on my way back home from school.</p><p>Blink-182 got me through my teenage angsty years when I felt no one got me. Their lyrics complaining about how much life sucks as a teen made me feel less alone. The band's music was also the soundtrack to my relationship until I broke my boyfriend's heart, and then years later, he broke my heart in return.</p><p>Since moving to the US as an adult, I've made a point of seeing all the bands I grew up listening to that didn't make it to South America with their tours, like Garbage and Rancid. I checked off most of my list over the years, but not Blink-182. Last night, I finally saw the band in Boston, a two-hour drive from my home in Maine. </p><h2>Getting tickets for Blink-182 was stressful</h2><p>While getting tickets was not as complicated as trying for Taylor Swift's tour, where families are <a href="https://www.insider.com/dad-dishes-out-21k-for-taylor-swift-concert-tickets-report-2023-5">spending $21,000 for a handful of tickets</a>, it wasn't easy either. As soon as Ticketmaster opened the virtual queue, I sat there staring at my browser for what felt like an eternity.</p><p>When I was finally let in to choose my seats, almost everything was sold out or being resold for thousands of dollars. With a tight budget, all I could get was two seats in the nosebleeds and hope for the best. </p><h2>For one night, I felt like a teen again</h2><p>After waiting months for the date to finally come, I was torn on whether it was going to be a night to remember or just a reminder of how time flies by.</p><p>In the past, I've seen bands I loved on stage only to leave thinking, "Wow, they can't keep up anymore." As if I could jump around on a stage for three hours while playing an instrument and never singing off-key, but that's beside the point.<br /><br />I was worried that seeing <a href="https://www.insider.com/tom-delonge-ufo-company-reportedly-374-million-deficit-2018-10">Tom</a> DeLonge, <a href="https://www.insider.com/blink-182-mark-hoppus-cancer-update-describes-chemotherapy-2021-6">Mark Hoppus</a>, and <a href="https://www.insider.com/kourtney-kardashian-married-travis-barker-wearing-minidress-and-veil-2022-5">Travis Barker</a> in their late 40s and early 50s was going to remind me of my own aging, but thankfully it was the opposite. </p><div type="image" title="Blink 182 on stage" height="2274" width="3024" msid="100453111" hostid="261" sizebytes="202336"></div><br /><br />DeLonge and Hoppus's humor is still the same, featuring lots of "your mom" jokes. They are just two boys with instruments having fun, and for one night, <a href="https://variety.com/2023/music/reviews/blink-182-reunion-tour-review-tom-delonge-1235618083/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">we all felt like teenagers again</a>. Especially when Tom referenced all the women in the stadium as "girls."<h2>Blink-182's setlist is one hit after the next</h2><p>From the second the band was onstage, the entire crowd in the TD Garden area was on its feet, with everyone singing at the top of their lungs. I took some moments to look around the crowd, and it was moving to see so many smiling faces singing one hit after the next. </p><div type="image" title="Blink 182 playing in Boston" height="2274" width="3024" msid="100453112" hostid="261" sizebytes="191210"></div><p>The trio can definitely keep up, especially Barker, who still looks like he has eight arms when he is playing a drum solo There is no other explanation as to why he is so jaw-droppingly good.</p><p>I do wish I could have gotten floor tickets to be closer to the action. Maybe even to just mosh for a little — if my knees allowed it. </p><p>Still, it was worth the drive and spending $375 on two tickets to feel like my heart had never been broken, I still had my entire life ahead of me, and my checkered Vans were still cool. </p>

It took me 26 years to finally see Blink-182 live. It was worth the 2-hour drive and $187 tickets.

However, FedEx has said it plans to continue to offer NRA members discounts.</p><p>However, FedEx announced it would continue its relationship with the NRA, offering members discounts of up to 26% on shipping.&#xa0;</p><p>"The NRA is one of hundreds of organizations in our alliances/association Marketing program whose members receive discounted rates for FedEx shipping," the company said in its statement.
