The <keyword id="2219970" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="World-Book-Night">World Book Night</keyword> (now in its fourth year and coincides with the <keyword id="2219971" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="UNESCO-International-Day-of-the-Book">UNESCO International Day of the Book</keyword>) came and went, but did it impact our life in any way? In the UK, 20 titles were selected and thousands of those <keyword id="5050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="books">books</keyword> were given away for free on the night of <keyword id="6460904" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="April-23">April 23</keyword> to inspire people who “haven’t yet been turned on” to reading. A quick look at the list had us pleasantly surprised. It included the works of <keyword id="210859" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Agatha-Christie">Agatha Christie</keyword>, <keyword id="17397" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jeffrey-archer">Jeffrey Archer</keyword>, <keyword id="324611" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="John-Grisham">John Grisham</keyword>, <keyword id="241349" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Roald-Dahl">Roald Dahl</keyword>, <keyword id="1367712" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Andy-McNab">Andy McNab</keyword> and others – mostly popular stuff that may actually drive reluctant readers back to the age-old habit of reading. 
 And that brings another startling fact to the forefront. If reading less is a global malady, men could be suffering more from it than their female counterparts. No, we are not getting gender-biased here. The findings came from a survey commissioned by the <keyword id="2219978" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reading-Agency">Reading Agency</keyword> and conducted by <keyword id="2219982" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="OnePoll">OnePoll</keyword>. According to the report, researchers from OnePoll spoke to 2,000 British men and <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> ahead of the World Book Night and it was found that 75% of the men would watch the big screen version of a story, instead of reading the original book. In fact, 30% of the men said they had not read a book after their school days. 
 But in spite of all the statistics, reading does change one’s life. They say everyone can write at least one classic – their own life story. Surprisingly enough, we have one such book in our April list – the <keyword id="2219985" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Posthumous-collection">posthumous collection</keyword> of <keyword id="642178" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Essays">essays</keyword> and <keyword id="851600" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="short-stories">short stories</keyword> by a young <keyword id="2219988" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yale-graduate">Yale graduate</keyword> that has gone viral and read by at least 1.4 million people across 98 countries. That gives us great hope that books (in any format) will never become obsolete. Browse through our list of seven wonder works – analytical, inspirational, <keyword id="820033" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="sublime">sublime</keyword>, but essentially a <keyword id="6374782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="journey">journey</keyword> towards a changing world order, a look into the changing times.

7 Books To Usher In A Summer Of Change

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image">Janet Hansen and Joy Shan</div></div>In a 2011 New York Times <a href="http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/11/09/another-view-the-science-and-strategy-of-college-recruiting/?_php=true&amp;_type=blogs&amp;_r=0">essay</a>, Yale University senior Marina Keegan encouraged her peers not to settle for lucrative Wall Street jobs if their true dreams were elsewhere because she didn't want them to squander their talent.
"... [S]tudents here have passion. Passion for public service and <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> policy and painting and engineering and entrepreneurialism," Keegan wrote. "Standing outside a freshman dorm, I couldn't find a single student aspiring to be a banker-but at commencement this May, there's a 50 percent chance I'll be sitting next to one. This strikes me as incredibly sad."
Six months later, Keegan <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/cape-car-crash-kills-yale-university-graduate-marina-keegan-article-1.1085418">died in a car accident</a> when her boyfriend lost control of the car he was driving. She had graduated magna cum laude from Yale days before and was preparing to move for a job at <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/">The New Yorker</a>.
According to Keegan's grieving parents, the world has lost an ambitious and idealistic writer. "By taking her hand and putting her pen to paper, or her fingertips to the computer, she would take things that wouldn't make sense to her, or that she felt needed attention, and use her beautiful, amazing intellect toward trying to make a difference in the few short years she was here," Keegan's mother <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/cape-car-crash-kills-yale-university-graduate-marina-keegan-article-1.1085418">told The New York Daily News</a>.
Despite her death, Keegan's inspiring writings will still be able to reach a broader audience. Scribner is publishing a book of her essays and stories, called "The Opposite of Loneliness," which will be <a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/147675361X/ref=rdr_ext_tmb">released on Amazon</a> Tuesday, April 8.
Keegan originally wrote the book's fiction and nonfiction content for writing classes and student publications. The book's <a href="http://yaledailynews.com/crosscampus/2012/05/27/keegan-the-opposite-of-loneliness/">title essay</a> originally appeared in a special edition of Yale Daily News distributed after her death.
In that essay, Keegan emphasized that it is never too late for her peers to do the things they love, even if it means starting over to do it. "The notion that it's too late to do anything is comical. It's hilarious," she wrote. "We're graduating college. We're so young. We can't, we MUST not lose this sense of possibility because in the end, it's all we have."
In the introduction to "The Opposite of Loneliness," Yale English professor Anne Fadiman said wrote that unlike many students Keegan embraced her youthfulness.
"Marina was twenty-one and sounded twenty-one: a brainy twenty-one, a twenty-one who understood that there were few better subjects than being young and uncertain and starry-eyed and frustrated and hopeful," Fadiman wrote. "When she read her work aloud around our seminar table, it would make us snort with laughter, and then it would turn on a dime and break our hearts."

Every year, the book recommendation site asks its users to vote for the best new book across 20 genres, from historical fiction to horror.
Goodreads editors first analyze statistics from the 250 million titles that were added, rated, and reviewed on the site in 2014 to nominate 15 books in each category. Readers are also encouraged to write-in nominations if their favorite didn't make the cut.
The final winners this year were based on almost 2 million reader votes. See if your favorite book is on the list below.
FICTION: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18081809-landline">Landline" by Rainbow Rowell</a>. The haunting story will stay with you. 
FANTASY: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16054217-the-book-of-life">The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3)" by Deborah Harkness</a>. The conclusion to the popular series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont finally return to the present to face old enemies and discover a centuries-old secret.
ROMANCE: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11710373-written-in-my-own-heart-s-blood">Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander #8)" by Diana Gabaldon</a>. Fans of the "Outlander" series will love the 8th installment where things in 18th Century Scotland and in 20th Century England are getting more intense than ever before. 
SCIENCE FICTION: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18007564-the-martian">The Martian" by Andy Weir</a>. This is the story of astronaut Mark Watney who was left for dead and stuck on Mars. Will he be able to survive and let his fellow astronauts know he's still alive? Or will he die, stranded millions of miles from the nearest human being? 
HORROR: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21412673-prince-lestat">Prince Lestat (The Vampire Chronicles #11)" by Anne Rice</a>. A mysterious voice is forcing vampires around the world to murder vampire-mavericks, and fires are raging across the globe. It will take a group of supernaturals to identify what's controlling the massacres, with the dangerous outlaw Prince Lestat at their core.
HUMOR: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20910157-yes-please">Yes Please" by Amy Poehler</a>. Poehler doles out truths about parenting, love, sex, and when to be funny and when not to be. And while her life advice is not always useful, it will certainly be hilarious as she discusses her famous roles and stunts (like when she sat on George Clooney's lap).
NONFICTION: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18143905-the-opposite-of-loneliness">The Opposite of Loneliness" by Marina Keegan</a>. Keegan was a talented Yale graduate who died just five days after her graduation in a car crash. This is a collection of her essays, including the viral "The Opposite of Loneliness" that she wrote for the Yale Daily News.
MEMOIR/AUTOBIOGRAPHY: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17675031-this-star-won-t-go-out">This Star Won't Go Out" by Esther Earl</a>. 16-year-old Earl was the inspiration for the blockbuster book and movie, "The Fault in our Stars." This is a collection of her journals, fiction, letters, and sketches, published posthumously after her death.
HISTORY/BIOGRAPHY: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18404173-the-romanov-sisters">The Romanov Sisters" by Helen Rappaport</a>. Perhaps the most photographed and talked about young royals of the 20th century, the Romanov sisters - Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia - had a tragic end in a basement at Ekaterinburg in 1918. This book looks at their diaries and letters to capture their young lives against the backdrop of Imperial Russia.

GRAPHIC NOVELS/COMICS: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21532236-serenity">Serenity: Leaves on the Wind" by Zack Whedon</a>. Brother of Joss Whedon, Zack's book continues the story of Joss' cult hit TV show, Firefly. Malcolm Reynolds and his crew must go on another rescue mission after one of their own is captured by the Alliance government.
POETRY: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22151696-lullabies">Lullabies" by Lang Leav</a>. Leav's poetry has attracted a cut following as she explores love and loss. <a href="http://2paragraphs.com/2014/11/khloe-kardashian-disses-closure-poet/">Khloe Kardashian even shared the poem "Closure" by Leav</a> on Lamar Odom's birthday.
DEBUT AUTHOR: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15839976-red-rising">Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy #1)" by Pierce Brown</a>. Even the most jaded readers will be shocked by the ending.

In the long-awaited conclusion to the "Mortal Instruments" series, Clary and her friends fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary's own brother, Sebastian.
CHILDREN'S: "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18705209-the-blood-of-olympus">The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus #5)" by Rick Riordan</a>.
